hi everyone it's Raquel of Raquel Skirvin cuisine and today I am going to be making patties yes-man Jamaican beef patties these are so flaky soft tasty and really flavorful let us get right into it [Music] so you're mixing container add three cups of all-purpose flour along with some salts some tumeric powder curry powder go in with some baking powder some sugar and mix that in the tumeric powder gives the putty crust its color but the curry powder gives a kick in flavor here I am using some cooking any vegetable shortening our larder can be used I am also using some margarine and key but several feet irritates I would not melt too quickly the shortening and the margarine is what gives the Patty cross it's flakiness so no I am going in with my hands to incorporate all the ingredients my aim is to get the butter and the shortening evenly distributed within the flour so I am left with a crummy bread crumbs eat extra now I am adding in some cold milk cold water is also an optional mix that in and needed to elixir and make yourself a nice dough ball try not to overwork the dough door the aim is to prevent the butter and the shortening from melting now place the dough into a plastic wrap and tuck in the refrigerator and allow to sit for about 30 minutes it's no time to meet the delicious beef filling so here I have some beautiful gold leaf on mince beef I am going to season with some salt black pepper some homemade mixes Nina also some homemade green seasoning mix that in this is smelling good already lots of herbs and spices going on right here no cover and a lot to seek for about ten minutes okay so in the meantime I am going to prepare some fresh ingredients here I have some tiny chopped carrots scallion onions pimento peppers garlic fresh thyme and a scotch bonnet pepper Jamaican patties normally Hippolyta heats a little spice so scotch bonnet pepper is a must but try not to use too much door no chop the peppers into tiny pieces you really don't want to be eating chunks of anything in your patties now go ahead and remove the leaves from your first time just like this you also don't want time stick in your patties [Music] no to your pots over low heat add some cooking oil about 2 tablespoon full then add or the chopped seasoning and sauteed this for a few minutes this is going to be a delicious pot of beef filling [Music] now add the well-seasoned and marinated grown beef and mix that in this right here is simile so good already now use a spoon and kind of mash out the beef as you start to prevent clumps of beef now add some Brown in just pile it a color a full ingredient amounts will be in the description box along with some soya sauce for flavor [Music] add a bit of ketchup and tears and adjust your liking add a bit more salt if needed are you seeing that texture this is looking good now add some breadcrumbs and the breadcrumbs absorb some of the liquid and gives the beef a smooth texture see not too much liquid on if the filling is too wet then the patty dough will get too soggy and that's we do not want no cover and allow to cook for a few minutes see that guys this is just perfect it's not too dry and it's not too wet no turn the stove off and allow to cool [Music] Patito have been resting for about 35 minutes removed from the refrigerator and get yourself a nice clean working surface does some flour on we're going to be making some beef patties this door is too much the angular ones so I'm using half at a time this recipe gives you a boat it's a 10 beef patties no rule the duel odds and does some flow on if you realize it's sticking to the surface roll it flat out on the surface [Music] so here I am adding some more cold but it'll be shortening make a full roll add some more butter and shortening fold that in and roll and guys this method is all you acquire the layer and layer of flicks Jamaican patties not a Jamaican patty if the cross is not flavorful flaky and comes everywhere [Music] were the two flats out on the surface this dough is loaded with butter and Here I am cutting off the edges just so it's easier to enter and these pieces will be used later now cut the door straight down in the middle into about 6 equal pieces or less if you want your patties just a little bit bigger okay now put those aside it's time to add the filling add a generous amount of beef for each filling or am is to get a nice meaty juicy beef patty not too much done enough so the door will be able to be seal no fall and seal the edges with a fork just like this and place it on your baking tray I have added a sheet of parchment paper on the baking tray to prevent sticking no continue that process [Music] Here I am making an extra-large potty it's twice the size as the others you can make any size or shape you like now seal the edges and make sure the edges are tightly sealed okay so our almost Donna beaten egg and use a brush and gently pax over the path across this egg wash is what gives the crust a beautiful Sheen preheat oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit or 200 degrees Celsius and bake for 25 minutes patties are all ready and it's no time for the tasters look at all soft this is I'm flaky let me take a bite young mana this is it's not only is the feeling delicious but the cross is crunchy and tasty I am NOT going to lie this is absolutely delicious cheese patties are one of my favorites let me show you how to do it just cut where the patty was seal add a few cheese slices put in the toaster oven until the cheese melts and you have created yourself a cheese party yes mana delicious thank
