He's missing a great chance to call these videos "Wing Tips".

I thought I'd share this since so many of you students and some Cessna drivers could use this kind of video. Garry is a great CFI and gives us a lot of useful information. What are your thoughts on his tips? Anything that you'd add?

I still don't get the five centreline stripes thing for the round out. I've always been told to look down the end of the runway and it seems to work.

I like Garry's vids but I'm not sure you need to have both hands on the yoke. I guess it's just personal preference to an extent but I've always been taught to keep a hand on the throttle.

He says all you need to know in 2 minutes. Nail those speeds and add power if you're starting to sink. The most important two concepts. Think about how many instructors and videos tell you to nail the airspeed in the pattern, and you'll realize how critical it is to a good landing.

I thought the Cessna Land-O-Matic did it for me. Might explain things.

Full-stall landings

Why are people still teaching this kind of shit?

has anyone here flown with Garry? I wonder how he is as an actual CFI

I live in and welcome to another five minutes fly the wake in flight maneuver video now usually when I borrowed by sporty air zoo t-shirt I fly in my replica l4 airplane but today we're in a Cessna 182 practicing landings I've gotten a lot of requests for people to show just a simple video on how to land a Cessna what I like to teach is two steps to landing one of these Cessnas the first step is pick an aiming point either on the runway or just short of it that's what you're aiming for as you descend all the way from the downwind base and final if you hit ran out flare that's where the airplanes nose would impact the runway that's the first step as we start a descent toward that aiming point on the runway the second step is when we get down there at about the height of a person ten fifteen feet high we start to round out at the height of a person we bring our power to idle and hold the airplane off we're dissipating energy in the form of airspeed so that we can land the airplane at the slowest possible speed we want all of these landings in a Cessna to be low energy minimum airspeed full stall landings that means the nose is going to be slightly up the tail slightly down if you fly the right air speech don't worry you're not going to take the tail off the runway they figured that out you don't have enough elevator Authority if you nail your airspeed any extra airspeed that I bring to the runway I'm going to have to dissipate before I let the wheels touch unless I land too fast now I've boy high I can see the two white so I'm using power to control that and I'm get the pitch dialed in use it the airspeed indicator and right there looks good at sixty we've got five thousand feet of runway there is a little bit of wind here today start lose some altitude get a little sink so I'm going to bring some power till we get down to the runway got 5,000 feet of runway we bring our power back to idle and then we just hold it off the stall buzzer beer planes on the ground so we're a little under maximum gross weight today so we're going to use a final approach airspeed of 60 we're going to pitch for that and do one last Gump's check here and as the airspeed comes in we'll work it over to centerline you can see the wind sock is a little bit of a right crosswind today so we may need to lower that right wing it's a little bit of sink right here at the very end here at braig we've got the airspeed man we've got our aiming point it's right off the nose and then we get down here we're slowly bringing power to idle and then we look down the runway about five stripes just hold it off as long as we can wait for the stall buzzer dissipate that energy keep it on center line a little bit of a right crosswind let it land on the right wheel first and then full right aileron oh we get down to the runway it's important that you look at the right place we're aiming for that aiming point is the first step when we get down to the aiming point then you got to look at at least five stripes each stripe at the space between it counts is 200 feet that's about a thousand feet down the runway look down the runway about a thousand feet don't move your head like this but pop your eyes back and forth so that you look on both sides you're trying to get it's kind of like peripheral vision where you can see everything flat mount is you get down to the runway if you find yourself flaring too high and dropping it in well that's an indication that you may be looking too close to the airplane if you fly it right into the ground well maybe you're looking too far away there's some books that say look at the far end of the runway but quite honestly that's a mile away you need to look a little bit closer kind of like you're looking for an address in the car we get on final we try to fail that airspeed get a little closer to 60 it's a right crosswind we want to factor for that as we get down here to the runway and here comes our aiming point so now my eyes are clicking down the runway and I'm keeping it on center line fighting for directional control power comes to idle and I hold it off and dissipate that energy there's the stall buzzer the nose wheel is still off slowly bring that down if that's the way you land assess them keep it with the visual theme here you need to be able to see the runway at least when you begin the flare so if you notice I've got my cameras up high so that you can see them in the video if you can't see over the nose and whatever airplane you're flying you got it on final you even need to find another airplane or a taller seat don't be ashamed to use a seat cushion I carry one around for students that are vertically challenged because you need to be able to see over the nose of the airplane but this one what I'm going to do is intentionally bring too much airspeed to the runway I've got to bring full flaps in I come down to the runway here and then I try to land right here the airplane is barely going to take off again it will just wants to fly it doesn't want to land and now I'm in no-man's land I've got full flaps and very little airspeed that's a bad thing what you need to do is go around looking at my aiming point I got my air speed dialed in I've got full flaps I've done my gums check about three times and I'm going to nail that airspeed I'm coming right in for the eighth that's not where I'm going to land that's where I'm going to begin my round out as I come over the threshold I could bring the power back slowly to idle and then I'm looking down five stripes in my eyes are clicking back and forth on the left and right there's the stall buzz or work it down a little lower hold it off holding off there you go right on center line and there's our right crosswind keeps this right on the center line if that's the way you land one of these Cessnas you'll be able to do the same thing at a Cessna 172 as I do with this 182 just remember the high wing planes tend to float a little bit more so you have to anticipate that make sure you nail your airspeed if don't let the wheels touch till the airplanes don't flying I hope those tips helped you go out with your instructor get a lot of practice landing you know they say it only takes about five minutes to grasp the concept of landing one of these light airplanes however that five minutes may not come for about 50 or 60 landings have fun fly safely a fly off it and I'll see you next time for another fly the wing in flight maneuver video you
