How To Do Typewriter Text in DaVinci Resolve - Resolve 16 Basic Tutorial

[Music] hey everybody casey ferris here i make videos on davinci resolve here on youtube make sure to subscribe for more of that today we're talking about the typewriter text effect the one where it looks like somebody's you know just typing it out this is such an easy thing to do in resolve you don't even need to know much of anything i'll show you exactly how it works and it takes like five seconds here i am in the edit page of resolve i'm not in the cut page cut page looks like this it's different i'm in the edit page okay you can confirm these things by looking down here and seeing that the edit page is darker and what i want to do is add a little lower third here that says where this place is all i have to do is go to my effects library if you don't have this open make sure you go up here and click on effects library and then it's bright white instead of gray then it should appear down here in the bottom left-hand corner of our screen and here where it says toolbox under titles that is an open click on this little button here we need to grab text plus grab text plus and move it over here to our timeline and we're just going to put this over the clip that we want to show it on zoom in here give us some space so now that we have our title we need to make it look the way that we want any time that you want to change something specific about something in resolve you do that in the inspector that lives over here in the upper right hand corner if it doesn't exist yet click on this inspector button and whatever you have selected will bring up controls here and you can adjust things so with my text plus selected i can go over here and change my text some building california some building in california let's make the font something that we like and we'll size this and all of that stuff once we've sized this and aligned it and everything we go up to the very top of the inspector here and click on the second icon the layout then i have controls over the center so i can move this around just by clicking and dragging these numbers let's just put this down here in the lower left hand corner something like that and now we have this sized and styled and everything the way that we want now let's have it type on again back in our inspector back to the first tab the text tab all the way down there's something called write on this is a way to control when each character actually appears and it's perfect for the typewriter effect so when i grab this end dot and move it back and forth we'll see it types this on or off right so all we really have to do is animate this dot so we'll start at the beginning of our comp here and right next to this right on bar there's a little diamond click on that and it'll turn orange that'll set a keyframe that just means that at this point in time you want right on to look like this and the way i want it to look is at 0 0. now i'll move down my timeline a little bit to i don't know let's say we want this to animate on over like two seconds so i'll just move it about two seconds down the timeline and this time i'll grab the end of the write on bar and just move it all the way to the right and now we play this back that just writes on like that isn't that neat so easy there you go you got fancy text things and you don't even have to go into the fusion page nice right and by the way if you want some awesome titles for resolve and you don't want to jump into the fusion page you find yourself doing this kind of thing a lot we have a pack available called fusion titles for editors volume 2. we have all kinds of things like this that are all fancy you can just select them in the edit page and change the text in the inspector you can change the colors to be really nice and they animate on and you can change the length so that they animate off whenever you want and it's just really easy and it looks nice you know there's a link to these in the description here's more about them right here i hope you've enjoyed hanging out with me i've enjoyed hanging out with you let's take a look at that typewriter thing again yeah nice it's like somebody's really typing it wow
