hello everyone i'm verowak and today we're talking about dams levees and floodgates and how they work so the first one is the dam this is the structure you start with so you can use it for the first drought to increase your survival chances the dam only lets water that's above 0.65 meters to pass through and this height is not adjustable if you install a depth marker you can track the water height during the drought and you'll see it slowly lower over time if the water is below this depth no water will flow on the other side of the dam so the simplest way to keep water near your colony during a drought is to install a dam across a river and you're done the second structure that's available is a levy you unlock this one with 120 research points and this structure prevents any water from passing through water is going to back up until it can flow over the top of the levee which might create a flood you can use this and make artificial lakes or ponds or just an extra water storage you can also build a levy on top of a levee so you can increase the blockade's height so you could do whatever you want so you can make it deeper a levee takes less wood to build than a dam so if ever you see that you're pressed for time and the drought's coming and you're trying to build something to hold water back for your colony you could build some levees instead of dams to be done faster depending on the amount of water flowing through the river just having one piece of dam may not allow enough water flow through which can result in a flood as well the third structure that's available is the floodgate they come in three different heights so you can adjust the height of water that you'll allow from the shortest to the tallest they take 150 250 and 500 research points respectively a floodgate lets you store up water and release it when you want for example in this situation i built a floodgate and i'm letting no water through because of this a completely natural massive lake was created which basically guarantees that i'm never going to run out of water during a drought for the really long droughts the water retained with the dam is going to run out so in this case if you built a floodgate upstream you can open the floodgate a bit to allow some water to go through and keep your lands fertile the increments of height that you can adjust the floodgate is every 0.5 meters also when using floodgates and adjusting the height you can select to make sure that the other flood gates connected to this one are going to synchronize so they all open at once using these structures really depends on what you like to do you can do crazy challenges where you build like the biggest water reservoir possible that just keeps filling up and up and eventually is just gonna drown the entire map or you can simply just retain the perfect amount of water for your drought so you survive that sums up the three water retaining structures that we can build in timberborne i hope you learned a thing or two you can use these in whatever crazy situations you want i i like flooding maps it's interesting to see how it works flooding passageways and land to me it's just interesting doing that sometimes and plus this way beavers can swim around even more i'm sure they're happy thanks for watching everyone again i'm verowak you can find me on twitch where i stream or on youtube where i hope to create more short videos like this for timberborne and other games i'm currently working so currently i'm working on a playthrough of timberborne for youtube and also a few challenges suggested by you keep them coming
