I really love Angie's work - she does the regular gamut of makeup videos, but this is one of my recent favorites of hers - contouring and highlighting is a lot different as you age, which is something I had never considered.

She is one of my favorites; she does great videos on skin care for younger ladies just beginning to get into anti-aging skin care as well.

This is so interesting I thought it would be the same

Wow, this was pretty neat. I'm 25 with a fuller face and I still feel like I learned a thing or two.

Love this. I'd already figured most of this out, but she gave me some refinements to try. The only thing I do quite differently is the corners of my mouth, but my mouth shape is different.

Also, this made me realize why most Cream contours seem so extreme to meβ€”they're designed for heavier coverage than I use. I prefer BB creams that don't cover up my freckles.

Came across one of her videos the other week - she has really good foundation reviews where she will test the foundation over a few days with different products and show the application, then how it looks at the end of the day for each attempt. Wish more gurus would do this!

hey everybody its Angie and welcome to hot and flashy in today's video I'm going to show you how to highlight and contour the mature face now I'm sure you've seen all the videos on YouTube on it and I'm sure you also seen all the Kardashians highlighting and contouring for their it's depicts a lot of people have asked me if older people can do the same thing and if so how well of course you know that I don't like to put any rules or any restrictions on people who are my age or people of any age so I say let's go forward people anything that can work for the younger people can work for us we just need to do it a little bit differently so if you ever wanted to apply your makeup so that it can help your jawline look more lifted make your cheeks look fuller make your nasal labial folds look less pronounced then stay tuned because that's what we're going to go over in this video so this is a cream contouring video where we put on the cream contour and highlight first then we put foundation over it so it comes out subtle and blended which is how I like my makeup to look the product that I use for today's video is the NYX cream contour kit if you don't have a cream contour kit you can use three shades of foundation then you need some brushes and a blending sponge to apply it with I used my new beauty junkies pro highlight and contour kit this is a great little kit that beauty junkies just said to me but this has everything we needed for the video so this is their new blending sponge and then the kit comes with four contouring brushes and I love it that it has a little detailer brush it also has a nice blending brush and it has a couple of nice powder brushes in different sizes all the products that I'm showing today will be linked in the information box below the video so if you're curious about my lipstick or my eyeshadow or anything else you can just open the box by clicking on the show more button down there and you'll be able to see what everything is that I'm using today so let's get started with the tutorial so let's start with the highlighting this would be for the areas that are in shade because skin folds on us or the areas that we want to make look fuller and more prominent using my beauty junkies Pro detailer brush I'm going to pick up this nice pale color it's about three shades lighter than my natural skin tone now you normally see younger people doing a big triangle covering their whole cheek and painting this whole area this product and most contouring products are too heavy to do that with on older eyes because it makes our eye wrinkles and crows feet look worse it settles into our wrinkles so basically what you're going to do is just highlight kind of the dark side of the eye bag starting at the inside of the eye and working down on the outside of the bag I bring mine down the side of the nose like this because I'm going to be contouring the shape of my nose but I'm going to be doing the darker there so I want a light right on the other side of it to kind of really make that pop so I'm going to bring that down as far as until my eye bag stops and my cheeks starts okay or the nasolabial fold can be casting a shadow and you want to brighten that up and make that not look so deep so I bring this right down my nose into the crease and then just follow the line of your nasal labial fold and that's going to bring light into that shadow and make it look like it's not as deep and dark continuing on from there if you are someone who pulls the corner of their mouth down and you have that little downward shadow there you're also going to put some in there just to brighten that up okay just to make our chin look a little bit fuller just going to do a little bit right on the center of the chin now for the other side of the eye I just like to do from the outside just a little bit right in here just to brighten up the outer corner of the eye not going all down in here to help to raise the cheekbone a little bit I do a little outer V out here because a lot of times when people get older they tend to get a little sunken and a little hollow looking and one of the places that we get hollow is right here in the temple so where the younger people will contour their temple dark here older people need to contour this the opposite lighter now I'm going to do up on top of my cheekbone and bring that back so it's like a heart shape so by accentuating basically this shape we're going to be bringing more lightness to the face so I always like to have a highlight above my brow and filling in your eyebrows and tapering and lengthening the end helps with that as well which I've already done here and then on the forehead right in the center and of course then down the center of the nose all right so we're just going to repeat that all on the other side and I will stop talking and we can speed this up so for the contouring older people your face tends to go one of two directions either you get thinner and more gone in which case your cheekbones may be fine and you may not need to chisel those out or other people gain weight and their face is rounder so you do need to chisel out the cheekbones pretty much universally you need to correct your jawline because we all have some sagging down here and you may or may not have nose problems if you have a thin nose you don't have to contour your nose if you have a short forehead you're not going to want to contour your forehead so it all depends on your face shape but remember it's kind of that hard shape that we're trying to make so let's start with the cheekbones basically I don't really like doing that fishface because look what happens there don't want that so basically I just place the brush at the top of my ear and bring it down towards my mouth and then just roll it till I find where my cheekbone is and it's pretty much right there you can pretty much feel it so that's the line that you're going to want to do I don't like to break it too far forward and I also don't like to draw on like an apple I just like to do a nice short straight line from the ear right out beneath the cheekbone and I come out to about mid cheek and then go back alright now for the jawline where there is sagging which on me is like right here you don't want to just follow along where the shadow is where the sagging is you want to come up a little higher so you're trying to correct the look of that so start at the sagging and just draw kind of a straight line across it to get it to give you up a little higher then you can go to ship back in and follow your natural jaw line where it is not sagging and kind of go underneath and you can cleanse that down your neck a little bit so see how that came up and eliminated that little roll of flesh right there that's what you're aiming for some people do a little shadow underneath the lip to make the lower lip look fuller now I have a high wide forehead so I like to try to make it look a little bit narrower so I tend to do the contouring up in here so for mine but I don't want it to look too boxy and then I just do like a little bit a lot in my hairline kind of try to simulate a little bit of widow's peak I also have kind of a double neanderthal forehead lump so this comes out then it goes in and then this comes out it goes in that's why I put this right here so that will bring that forward I have an oddly shaped nose it has a flat spot right here so it kind of goes out there that's where I was hit by field hockey ball when I was in high school so for the nose it's the same idea is here where you don't want to follow the contour that you're trying to disguise you want to go over the contour so my nose is fairly long and straight but I just like to make that little nose bump disappear so I'm going to go a little higher on that part and then little bit lower towards the end and then if you want I didn't know if you guys know this but your nose keeps growing so do your earlobes so you can contour just the tip of your nose if you want to make it look a little shorter and a little more buttony so now I'll do the other side all right now that we've got everything drawn where we want it the next step is to blend this out a little bit since we are going to cover it with foundation we don't have to blend it too too much I'm going to use the beauty junkies Pro sculptor brush I'm going to start blending the highlight first and then I'm going to blend the contour so that I don't get them all muddied up together so I'm going to start here on the cheek and I'm just going to blend that out so that there aren't any rough edges blend it up and into your hairline because you don't want to have the color suddenly stopped before it gets to your hairline you just want to use little circular motions you kind of blend it in a bit you don't want to make it totally race so they can still be seen through the foundation you just want to soften everything and now I'm going to go in and blend the contour now if you want to define more of a round eppley cheek this is where I would just take what's here and bring that forward and round it up now if that highlight down the middle of your nose or anywhere else got overly blended you can go ahead and reapply so I'm just going to put a little bit more highlight down the center you can try to make it look a little button II by leaving a space there and then doing a little button on the end and then just blend that nice and straight up and down because you don't want to get that down the sides on to your contour to shape your nose now I'm just going to apply my foundation using a blending sponge so that I don't move everything from where it is this is the beauty junkies blending sponge and today I'm using my Chanel perfection Lumiere velvet foundation this is my favorite and I'm just going to work that in with a sponge and this flat spot is really great for getting into these nasal labial fold corners and now that the foundation is on you can see that you can still see where the highlight and the contour is but it's not obvious it's not like you've drawn a mask on your face like it looked before so the next step is to use powders to really make this pop by using illuminating powders and mattifying powders now mat and illumination work very similarly to highlight and contours I'm going to use it cosmetics bye bye pores HD powder pro highlighter brush from the beauty junkies brush kit and then I just placed that underneath my eyes where I want to set that makeup and to help it stay mattified I just do right in down in my nasal labial fold for my blush today I'm going to use the NYX baked blush in wanderlust and to apply it I have my favorite crown kabuki brush I feel like with older cheeks you want to have your blush and everything start kind of back kind of mid eye back in here is just too much of a problem area between my eye bag coming down to meet with my nasal labial fold and my cheek not being as plump as it was so I start back here high in my temple and I bring the brush down about halfway below my eye then I turn it and I kind of feather it down into my contour and this already has a bit of shimmer to it so if you don't want to add any more shimmer you can just do the blush on its own now if your contour is too subtle once you put your foundation over it you can kind of darken that up by using a bronzer I'm going to use the Too Faced chocolate Soleil bronzer today and again I'm going to use that pearl highlighter brush so if you needed to really amp that up if you like that you can add a little bit more just as an option in case that was too subtle I actually really like the look of it with just the foundation over it I feel like it makes it so that you can't tell that you're doing the contouring but yet you can see it the eye detects it but it's not obvious and if your jaw line needs a little more you can do that down there too so let me know if you want to see a powder contour video which would be one where we apply the contour on top of our foundation and I can easily do that so give the video a thumbs up if you want to see a separate powder contour demonstration alright so moving on now I'm going to add the final step which is the illumination and for this I'm going to use the last brush that came in the kit this is the pro duo fiber brush and makeup revolution london vivid baked highlighter they had a whole new rack of makeup revolution things at my Ulta so I decided to pick something up I never start anything right in front I don't want anything there like I said trouble area so I start right here at the highest point of my cheekbone and just apply that in circular motions going back towards the temple and could put a fly a little bit right above the eyebrow this will lift the eye lift the cheek so here is the finished look my jawline looks firm cheeks look round and full and plump the outer corners of the eyes are lifted and we've diminished our shadowy areas such as the tear troughs the nasolabial folds and the little frown lines so that's it for the video for today everybody I hope you found it helpful and informative as always I appreciate your time thanks so much for watching and I will see you in the next video so take care everybody and have a great day bye bye
