you have your Bibles this morning turn with me please to the book of Joel the great book of Job if the book of Job had not been written there would be many questions left unanswered starting with the eighth verse the scripture says and the Lord said unto Satan whence cometh thou then Satan answered the Lord and said from going to and fro in the earth and from walking up and down in it and the Lord said unto Satan have you considered my servant job that there is none like him in the earth a perfect and upright man one who fears God and hates evil then Satan answered the Lord and said does job fear God for not have not thou made an hedge about him and about his house and about all that he has on every side and you have blessed the work of his hands and his substance is increased in the land but put forth your hand now and touch all that he has and he'll curse you to your face and the Lord said to Satan behold all that he has is in your power only upon himself put not forth your hand so Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord and I want to use for a subject preaching a few minutes today have you considered my servant job would you bow your heads Heavenly Father as we come to you today we do so in the name of Jesus we ask o Lord that you will denote us that we might deliver to these people what you have given us that you might help us that we might say exactly what you won't said in the way that you wanted said and they may hear it as you want them to hear it and we'll ask it all in the name of Jesus and everyone said a man and a man I want to repeat the statement I made just before reading the text had the book of Job not been written had this experience not been given to us there would be a lot of questions left unanswered in this book we find many things out about God that we would not have found out in any of the other great books of the Bible Joel was the son of Isaac our he was the grandson of Jacob the great-grandson of Isaac the great great grandson of Abraham and the book of Job it is believed by most scholars was the very first book written as it regards inspiration probably written written by Joel with the help of Moses II and we know that it was written before the law was given and that job's closing years he lived at the time of Moses sojourn in the wilderness so it's quite possible that these men wrote this book and it would have been the very first book even though it's not first chronologically but the first that was written and inspired by God no doubt written even before Genesis was written Moses himself was the first writer outside of job and he wrote the Pentateuch first of all probably had been written Genesis while he was at the backside of the desert he wrote Leviticus Exodus Leviticus numbers and Deuteronomy along with Genesis of course Exodus after the exodus had taken place out of Egypt and numbers in Deuteronomy whenever the children of Israel were in the wilderness but the very first book written was Jew and that which makes this so special and which makes it so significant is that the very first book written inspired by God had to do not with a sinner being saved but the child of God being sanctified I want you to get that this is so important so significant that God the first book that was inspired by heaven had to do with the sanctification of the saint of God telling us how that God looked at this thing and how significant how imported that it is whenever I stand before over television and I say to you as we're teaching on the message of the Cross primarily as it regards sanctification how we live for God how we order our behavior how we have victory over the world the flesh and the devil even how we grow in grace and the knowledge of the Lord and I tell you that this is the most important material that you as a believer will ever hear or know that's not mere height it is the truth I don't mean our ability or the lack thereof in presenting it but I'm talking about the material itself there are very few programs that I don't feel Lord we could have done that much better but when we tell you this is the single most important material on the face of the earth think of the book of Job and how that God gave all of these instructions as it regarded this man job and how he lived now I want you to listen to this now please job was the godliest man on the face of the entire earth in his time the scripture said have you considered my servant job that there is none like him and all the earth think about that he was perfect in the sense not sinlessly perfect because no man has ever been sinlessly perfect but perfect and his efforts to please God to service the high priest of his family to do his very best to do what God called him to do and yet God would choose the most consecrated man on the face of the entire earth to proclaim to us the great doctrine of sanctification of consecration you say well oh that makes sense it won't when I tell you all of job's efforts and his consecration which should have been it was right all of his doing his very best a little for God till God would say there is none like him in all the earth but he would find to his chagrin and dismay that when he was measuring himself up beside others he looked pretty good but he was when he was measuring himself up beside God when God appeared to him his only words were I am vile here's what I'm trying to tell you this is what the Lord was saying through Jobe you can't sanctify yourself I want that to sick end I don't care how consecrated you are I dedicate and you ought to be you ought to be you ought to be but all the things that we do in which we ought to do I'm faithful to church you ought to be I'm faithful with my tithe you ought to be I'm faithful to witness to those about Christ that the Lord places in mouth and you ought to be I study the water you are too but whenever the preacher tells you that won't sanctify you and won't make you what you've got to be before the Lord here's where the problem begins and here's where people get a little angry I'm sick of hearing about that cross but ladies and gentlemen what we ought to be in Christ what the Holy Spirit wants us to be it can only be done by what Jesus Christ did at the cross over and over again over the telecast I'll have them to put this little graphic on the screen I don't know if they've got it or not you won't see it here but you buy television you can see it if it's on there we've reduced this great great great plan of God that God has has perfected for us as Saints down to the lowest most common denominator to help us grasp it and understand it and it's this number one Jesus Christ is the source of all things that we receive from God now you get that I want to say it again that blesses me that thrills me Jesus Christ the Lord of glory is the source of all things that we received from God glory to God I didn't say Mohammad I didn't say Buddha I didn't say anybody said Jesus Christ is the source he's the one who paid the price that's arisen the Holy Spirit glorifies him and he will not accept any praise and worship to himself are you hearing me he wants your praise to go to God even though the Holy Spirit is gone but he wants it to go to God and to the one who saved you Jesus Christ glory to God number one Jesus Christ is the source of all things that we receive from God now here's the second point it's extremely important the cross of Christ is the means and the only means that all of these things are given to us hallelujah that's that that's that's that's about the weakest response I've ever heard come on let me hear you glory to God hallelujah hallelujah the cross made possible my salvation the cross made possible the baptism of the Holy Spirit the cross made possible divine healing the cross made possible every blessing I've ever had the cross made possible for me to praise God the cross made it possible for me to glorify the Lord and have communion and 24 hours a day that's why Paul said Christ sent me not to baptize sorry Church of Christ sorry Baptists Christ sent me not to baptize but to preach the gospel not with wisdom of words lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect that's why he said the preaching of the Cross is to them who perish foolishness but do we who were saved it is the power of God and when I talk about the cross I'm not talking about that wooden beam I'm talking about what Jesus there did and what did he there do he atoned for all sin past present and future listen to me I don't care how many drugs you've taken I don't care how much hell you have raised I don't care how sinful you've been if you'll come to him he has a tone for every sin every sin every sin every sin where do you ask me why I'm happy and I'll just tell you what or because my sins are gone what's in the truth you ask me why I'm shouting and I'll just tell you why because my sins are gone there underneath the blood on the cross Calvary Oh for for corn far remove one quart as darkness is from down five cold in the sea of God's forgetfulness but it's good enough for me praise God my sins ago hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah oh-oh-oh I will admit we still have some Christians who try to drag him up he atoned for all sin number two second he broke the power of sin and the grip it had to let go that you might live a holy life and that's the only way the cross is the means by which all of these things are given unto us well now I believe you've got to do something else 1000 or tell me what else you're going to do you go climb up on that cross I'm sorry they won't have you you're so stinkin rotten you can't do it self-righteous big bellied ungodly well Jesus called them snakes praise God but the cross of Christ is the only answer for sin there is no other now if you want to go to a psychologist and paying 400 bucks an hour go to when he's drained you of all your money come on to me all over the charge of two hundred and our eyes free of charge it's free of charge it's free of charge come unto me all ye who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn of me for I am meek and lowly in heart and you shall find rest unto your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light glory to God and number three what's three in Spanish and in Spanish three what is the source to the crosses the Me's number three the cross of Christ exclusively exclusively exclusively must be the object of our faith over my faith is in the word that's exactly where it ought to be but do you know what the word is from Genesis 1:1 through revelation 22 21 it's the story of Jesus Christ and him crucified the object of your faith not you see let me let me see how to say this works are the greatest hindrance to faith now I want you to mull that over a few moments I want to say it again Paul called them dead works dead works are the greatest hindrance to one's faith now as a child of God we will have good works we're supposed to have but never thinking that that brings about righteousness are the means of righteousness it isn't you follow what I'm saying well I'm righteous because our mold widows Smith's yard and didn't charge anything well I've got a yard as 20 acres come mow mine you'll get real righteous but the church today all we've got to benefit the community oh yes but let me tell you the only way you're going to benefit the community is to get drugs saved and alcoholics saved and drug addicts aid that lives changed by the power of God read a letter yesterday and lady wrote she said my dad brother Swaggart was an alcoholic but he would sit in front of that TV set and watch your program with a can of beer the same he was not trying to be contrary or arrogant that was not it he just couldn't get rid of his liquor and he would watch that telecast faithfully she said we prayed for him we talked to him we cried with him but he wouldn't say yes to Christ and said for some reason the telecast went off and our area she said he didn't say much but I could tell it bothered him greatly in just a little bit later it came back on and he would get in his easy-chair well that can of beer and he would listen and watch all service and she said one day the service was heavily anointed and she said I looked at my daddy and whenever you began to give the altar called and tears were rolling down his cheeks he said his beer can down and prayed with you and never picked up another beer can at the rest of now that helps the community you hear me nothing else will that's the only thing that will she said he started going to church and said he was so changed everybody knew it and said just a few months after he accepted Christ he dropped dead with a heart attack but she said I know he's in glory colony whenever the cross of Christ is the object of your faith and the cross of Christ Maine is maintained as the author of the object of your faith then the Holy Spirit who alone can make you what you ought to be and friend you're facing powers of darkness out there that you can't cope with their bigger knew but they're not bigger than the Holy Spirit hallelujah and he will make you he will make he's God he can do anything now with some of us it may take a little time some of you're worse off than you think but I've never seen a horse the Holy Spirit couldn't tame glory to God hallelujah I don't care what your problem is I don't care the bondage that's there thank God this is your key to victory in the name of Jesus all right now the very first oh boy the very first book in the Bible the book of Job which had to do with the consecration the sanctification the st. that's how important this is now Satan said to the Lord when the Lord said have you considered my servant job that there is none like him in all the earth who is perfect in his ways to try to please me and who hates evil who issues or hates evil Satan yeah both it all I've spent a lot of time trying to figure this thing out yeah I know job I know Joe and he said but I'll tell you Lord he said I have tried my best to get to him but you've built a hedge all around him you've even built it around his sheep around his cows around his camels come on war power Lord my lord you've built a hedge all and I can't get to him st. of God listen to me this morning every one of you who are washed in the blood of the Lamb there is a hedge built around you and all that you have Wow did you get that well there was that was in the Old Testament I don't believe it's anything like that in the new well go ahead be an idiot Paul said we have today a better covenant based on better promises Loretta my lord my lord my lord my lord and that doesn't mean that you as a child of God won't meet with your share of disturbances and problems and difficulties and nuances and idiosyncrasies and you say what does that mean I don't know but it's a big world but many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers them out of them Oh I got to tell this Francis will get only when I get but I've got the Ted preaching a meeting in East Texas 198 years ago I'm older do you think I am and after every service I meant and God gave us a great meeting and after every service a woman would come up to me she was about 5 foot tall and about 5 feet wide I'm in trouble now for bad trouble and she would fly boom swing I'm just having it's no hard I don't know what I'm going to do and I'd lay hands on and pray fire that went on for two or three weeks every night one night I was more tired than usual she she came up to me and blues and wingers I don't I don't see how I can go any farther I said shut up mmm I said shut up you're a child of the Living God your name is written down in the Lamb's Book of Life whenever the devil comes into again you hold your head high and say I'm glad I can say I'm one of them saved by the blood of the Lamb turn around and left gotten bed about midnight at 4 a.m. 4 a.m. the phone by the side of our bed rang I picked it up who in a world is calling at 4 o'clock in the morning I picked it up and a voice said it works praise God in wise I said who is this brother Swaggart you told me what to do last night but it works praise God it works I said are you miss fine before she said yeah it works and it does work it does market course I've got a hedge built all the way around look back at your Christian life even times you played the fool are you with me acted a fool still he watched over you hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah know why he said I will never leave you not forsake you but I'll be with you on to the end of the age hallelujah I don't know what I would do if I didn't have the Lord to go to and that's a reason that there are 40 million alcoholics and problem drinkers in America 40 million now I don't know the difference and a problem drinker and an alcoholic but all they've got to turn to is the bottle am I getting to you you understand what I'm saying that's the reason we've gotten over 30 million drug addicts 10 million on the white powder on the street 20 million on prescribed pills they have to have something to turn to that's not your answer and there are Christians who are having the same problems your answer is the cross answer alone is the cross I'm running out of time okay the Lord told Satan you can get to him all that he has but don't touch his physical body he lost everything he had and he was the most he was the richest man in the world of that day I never can think of his name he was the Omaha what's his name he was the Warren Buffett of the Middle East the the Bill Gates of Microsoft the Steve Jobs of Apple and now he's got nothing you see the Lord wasn't wasn't the Lord who took it away but he allowed the devil to do it the devil cannot do any more than the Lord allows him to do did you get that he can only do what the Lord allows him to do and some of you might think well I think he's allowed the Lord's a lot of a little bit too much all right Jobe didn't curse God but said the Lord gives and the Lord takes away blessed be the name of the Lord how many of you can say that the Lord gives and the Lord takes away blessed be the name of the Lord the Bible says and all of this job did not sin with his all right but the devil appeared again I'm sorry but he's going to come back again he said yes that all admits that he's still holding to his integrity but you let me touch his body and I'll bring him down the Lord said all right go ahead but you can't take his life now listen to this here's job sitting on an ash heap everything he's got is gone and his three friends oh boy they are alive and kicking today his three friends they come to listen to this these were given up these three friends given up to be some of the wisest men in the world of that day are you listening and they call Jobe a hypocrite they called him a sinner they called him a bigot they called him a racist they called him a despot everything that was evil now listen when you're down and anybody can do any negative thing to you that they want to do and not be reprimanded but rather applaud it then you find out how many good Christians that are in the world I don't know if you heard that or not let me say it again when you're down flat of your back and they're calling you a hypocrite adjustment every name they can think of and they can do any negative thing to you that they want to do just kick him again and not be reprimanded but rather applaud it then you find out who really knows the Lord and who don't because Christians don't kick people that are down they pick them up you hear what I'm saying though the Lord allowed those three friends there somebody was taking down every word they said now if they had known that millions upon millions upon millions where's your husband you okay see there's an all-seeing eye watching you tell him what I said okay all right if these men had known that all of these accusations they were making against Joe all the names they were calling him how they were browbeating him when he could not do anything to defend himself and they knew that millions were going to read how big a fool they were they might have had second thoughts and let me tell you there's one in glory that's keeping the record are you hearing me let's keeping the record and I want to be I don't let me let me go to the negative side first I don't want to be a person that hinders another believer on their way but I want to be somebody who helps that believer on their way now I got the clothes I'm finished about - I'm not through but I've run out of time whenever it all wound up the Lord told Jo now you've got to pray for these men that have been browbeating you you got to pray for him and offer up sacrifices for them because if I'm already disgusted with them you better offer up sacrifices but then he told Jo will be said now I'm going to give you twice what I allowed Satan to take from glory in a god you had I don't know how many I don't remember seven thousand camels among gilja fourteen thousand if you had twelve thousand sheep a thirty thousand of what it was I'm going to give you sixty thousand sheep glory to God if the Lord bar is your boat he's going to fill it up with fish before it's over I'll a little Oh glory to God could you stand please could you stand Jesus I'll never forget what you've done for me or Jesus I'll never forget how you set me free I said Jesus I'll never forget how you brohoho me around Jesus I'll never forget no never oh well jeez I'll never forget what you've done for me geez I never forget how you said me keys are better prepared you Robbie this turn around to
