Jimmy Swaggart Preaching: For The Time Has Come - Powerful Sermon

would you turn with me to the book of second timothy 2 timothy the great apostle paul writes this and says for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but after their own lust shall they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears and they shall turn away their ears from the truth and shall be turned unto fables i want to take my subject from the words of the great apostle with a slight variation he said for the time will come my subject is for the time has come for the time has come would you bow your heads heavily father i ask today that you would meet every need o lord i ask that you would help us that we might give this people that which you have given unto us anoint us to deliver your word as you anoint the people to hear your word and i'll ask it all in the gracious name of jesus christ and everyone said amen and a man i think it was the last time that we were in rome italy there is an area there that where the power of rome once ruled the world the street is still there the ruins of the most beautiful buildings on the face of the earth at that time are still there at the end of that road is the giant coliseum and then at this end of the road strangely enough is the mammoth in prison where the apostle paul was incarcerated the last few months of his life it's not a big place it's very small it really only has two cells one ground level and one beneath the ground when paul was there they had to put a rope around his waist and let him down through a trap door to the cell below now they have stairs that come down and it's carved out of solid rock it was used for a granary at one time and in paul's day it was used for the most notorious criminals and you see how the world tells what is notorious the apostle paul god help us i remember opening my bible with the 15 or 20 people who were with us and beginning to read where paul said the time of my departure is at hand i have fought a good fight i finished my course i have kept the faith i really was not able to continue the spirit of god fell in that room as people began to worship and praise god and i thought whenever the soldiers of nero came and they tied a rope around paul's waist and pulled him up through that trap door took him to the ostian way that is still there today and at a given point had him to lean over a block and a burly roman soldier takes a sword and severs his head from his shoulders more than likely the greatest example for christianity that christ ever produced but i was thinking as i stood there that day you can see the ruins of rome the buildings that once were the pride of the world they're nothing but ruins now there is no power left in rome her caesars have become organ grinders her generals have become peanut vendors but christianity hallelujah i said hallelujah the name of jesus christ girdles the globe and there are multiplied multiplicities of multitudinous millions i stood with the jewish god on the top of masada once in israel we were looking down below at the ruins that are still there today built by the roman army to wipe out the last vestige of rebellion over a thousand jews had locked themselves in that fortress on the top of masala and almost all of them committed suicide rather than to fall into the hands of the romans that is where on top of that mountain they hold their graduating classes for the israeli air force and their motto is never again never again i was talking with this guy jewish guy we were looking at the ruins down there like i said still traces of it left i said have you ever thought that mighty room that ruled the world for over a thousand years but it's today no more and israel is a thriving vibrant nation glory to god that jewish god who did not believe in jesus christ turned to me and looked at me in tears filled his eyes he said i've never thought of that because when you link one name with anybody god hallelujah they're gonna make it you didn't hear what i said when you link the name of god when you link the name of jesus christ they're going to make it i don't care the forces against them they're going to make it the devil has told some of you go ahead give the lord a hand the devil is the devil has told some of you you're not going to make it he's told some of you you're stumbling you'll never cross the finish line he's told some of you that you'll never see that city that we sing about but hell and satan and demons are liars you have the name of jesus attached to you and by the grace of god you're gonna make it the last words that anyone writes especially if they are people of significance of importance those words say something second timothy was the last epistle written by the great apostle second timothy as i stated a while ago he wrote it in the bottom floor of the mammatine prison first timothy was written elsewhere it was not written there the words that i read to you today for the time will come than when they will not endure sound doctrine but will heap to themselves teachers having itching ears and turned the truth into fables that was his last word as the holy spirit moved through him as he wrote to the church now i want you to think of that the very last word that the holy spirit had the great apostle to write to the church was the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but will heap to themselves teachers because they have itching ears and they want to hear something that's pleasant don't tell me about sin that time has already come we're living in the closing hours of the church age i want you to get that this great dispensation of grace the church age we're living in the closing hours of the church age the world is then going to be plunged after the church is taken out and i know most of the church world doesn't believe in a rapture i know that but i'll give you something to think about the rapture and the resurrection are one and the same do you believe in the resurrection that's about the most pathetic response i've ever heard in my life do you believe that there's coming a day when the lord shall descend from heaven with a shout and the voice of the archangel and the dead in christ shall rise first then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the lord [Applause] glory to god so whenever somebody tells you they don't believe in the rapture ask them do they believe in the resurrection mary i think it was i get mary and martha mixed up and they're in the same place so it doesn't matter she came before jesus and said lord if you'd only been here my brother would not have died lazarus had died jesus said mary or martha whichever it was martha i think well you said it's one of them that's guaranteed he said martha he'll rise again she said lord i know he'll rise in the resurrection the scripture doesn't say but i believe he picked her up and put his hand on her shoulders and looked at her right in the face and said martha i am the resurrection glory to god humble according i am the resurrection and the life he that believes on me shall never die he shall live forever martha you're looking at the resurrection so if you believe if you're saved you believe in the resurrection if you don't believe in the resurrection you're not saved and so they're one and the same i could tell two or three here no i don't agree well show me different in the bible they're the same we may argue about the time of it but you can't argue about the fact of it glory to god we're living in the closing hours of the church age it's lasted now for nearly 2 000 years the world is going to be plunged into great tribulation such as it has never seen before jesus said worse than anything this planet has ever seen and will never see such again the antichrist will make his debut to completely annihilate israel and we'll come close to succeeding we'll slaughter zechariah said over two-thirds of the people of israel and in the battle of armageddon he would totally wipe them out because half of jeru all of judea will fall half of jerusalem will fall zechariah said 2600 years ago and that's when what jews there are left with the whole world televising antichrist with thousands of television cameras to record this event as to what haman and herod and hitler could not do he will show the world i will do it tv cameras well of course they'll be there by the thousands representing every network on the face of the earth to record this astonishing victory that every jew is annihilated the battle of armageddon when all of a sudden one of those cameramen is going to say what in the world is that glory to god my lord hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah the very heavens and all of a sudden the meteorites are shooting from one end of heaven to the other it's a display of fireworks like the world has never known before and those tv cameramen are going to tell the whole world something's coming something's coming i don't know what it is it may be the antichrist's newest weapon but somebody else is going to say no that leading one has got written on his vesture king of kings and lord of lords whoa glory to god hallelujah hallelujah when he comes back you're standing and applauding and you should but you're going to be with him [Music] hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah [Applause] every saint of god who has ever lived will be with him praise god well you've heard of little moses in the bull rush you've heard of fearless david and his sling you've heard the story told of dreaming joseph jonah and the whale we sometimes sing there are many many others in the bible and i'd like to meet them all i do declare [Music] bye-bye the lord's gonna help us meet them at that meeting oh in there well there's going to give me a court hire please well there's going to be a meeting in the air in that sweet sweet barn bar [Music] that's not right but it'll do till the good one gets here i'm going to meet you on that morning [Music] whenever saint of god i told you it wasn't right are gathered there [Music] and i'll be with the lamb of god who takes away the sin of the world king of kings and lord is he and he's the only one his glory will blot out the sun at that meeting well in the air glory to god glory to god and zechariah said when he comes back the second time he's not coming back with a little lamb in his arms he's coming back crown king of kings and lord of lords and the fairest of ten thousands and the bride and the morning star zechariah said he's going to come back and fight as he fought in the day of battle and the antichrist is going to look for a door but there won't be one praise god the lord of glory will have so much power that when his feet touches all of that it's going to split into glory to god hallelujah because you see israel at that time will begin to cry to god lord if you don't save us we're not going to make it we've lasted for these thousands of years 4 000 years but if you don't do something and i know we've sinned we've sinned greatly but have mercy on us and brother he's going to answer that prayer like he's never answered a prayer in all of history glory to god now you can look at the chronology i've got to hurry up here chronology in the bible and you can see what's going to happen in the 37th chapter of ezekiel written 2600 years ago that's the valley of the dry bones the lord asks the great prophet can these bones live again [Music] and the great prophet said lord you know i don't know it's just dry bones but then the lord showed ezekiel something he showed him the toe bone attaching to the foot bone and the foot bone attaching to the ankle bone and the ankle bone to the leg bone and the leg bone to the hip bone and the hip bone to the breath my lord somebody in this place ought to get happy to the hip bone praise god and he saw him come up god can do it god can do it now that what i've just described what ezekiel just described in the 37th chapter of his great book has already begun now primarily what the lord was talking about was a spiritual resurrection but they have to have a physical resurrection before the spiritual resurrection comes and that began in 1948 you hear me it began in 1948. i've told this several times but in a conclave in washington d.c without all the jewish millionaires billionaires scientists rabbis place was packed it was several thousands of people and i was one of the speakers and benjamin not to not to yahoo was the other speaker i spoke first when he finished i walked up to him to shake hands with him which i did and we exchanged pleasantries for a few moments that's all but when i walked away the lord spoke to me and said that man i'm going to use him in the nation of israel he was not the prime minister then i'm going to use him and because god's going to bring them back and israel will not be brought back however until the second coming the second coming when you look at chapters 38 and 39 of ezekiel you see the battle of armageddon it outlines it perfectly and it talks about how the lord will come back with blood and fire and vapor of smoke and it will be a battle such as the world has never known before the most cataclysmic happening the world has ever seen when he comes back in a glory unparalleled that's in ezekiel 38 39 37 talks about their beginning to be brought back like i said that began in 1948. it will not conclude until they stand before him at the second coming and say what are the wounds in your hands and he'll say i was wounded in the house of my friends and then you can look at chapters 40 through 48 of ezekiel and it tells of israel once again now becoming the priestly nation of the world now listen to this a moment israel today is about the size of the state of new jersey that's about it but in the kingdom age her borders will go all the way north including syria and lebanon we'll go in the east of the river euphrates and we'll include half of iraq and will include the entirety of the arabian peninsula there will be no more saudi arabia no more of those particular countries in that arab peninsula that's what the lord told abraham he would do and in the south it'll go all the way to the suez canal the borders to be frank with you israel then will be about half the size of the united states hallelujah and let me say this quickly [Applause] the prophets told us of two great things that were going to take place at the end time peter quoted about the holy spirit said in the last days the holy spirit spoke through him i will pour out of my spirit upon all flesh that began at about the turn of the 20th century think of that now they say over 500 000 people i'm sorry 500 million over 500 million people that's a half billion since azusa street have been baptized with the holy spirit with the evidence of speaking with other tongues glory to god i remember seeking the lord when francis and i and donnie lived across town we had just gone on television and the lord said to me i want you to delegate every sunday afternoon for your crusades here in the states for people to be baptized with the holy spirit and if you'll believe me i'll fill thousands and i'll even fill a thousand in a single service now many of the good preachers in the denomination i was in said you can't do that i said why well because it's just not done i said well it's time that it be done and the lord has told me to do it so i'm going to do it i remember the first meeting i had now i've been all my life since i was that high praying for people to be baptized with the holy spirit praying one at a time well you can't pray with a thousand people one at a time and i didn't know what else to do so that we were in canton ohio in a high school auditorium for that sunday service and hundreds and hundreds of baptist methodist episcopalian catholics and everything else came to be filled with the spirit and i had them come forward they lined across the front and i prayed with people until i fell out the floor exhausted i didn't know what to do and i knew what i was doing wasn't right but i didn't know what to do and i went back to the hotel room and laid across the bed and resigned i said lord i'm not doing that anymore if you want somebody else to do it you get them but i'm not doing that anymore lord if you know aren't you glad some prayers he doesn't answer the next meeting was in toledo ohio and i was asked to preach the saturday morning service at the full gospel businessmen's meeting and the holiday inn and the lord said i want you to preach on the holy spirit and pray for people to be filled with the spirit i said ah not me lord and i woke up at about three o'clock that morning and i was seeking god and the lord showed me that morning how to pray for thousands to be filled with the spirit at one time showed me exactly what to do exactly how to do it and when i knew that i had the mind of the lord i couldn't wait to get to that holiday inn i sang that morning there is a river that flows from god above there is a river that's filled with his great love come to the waters there is a vast supply there is a river that never shall run dry and i ask i said everybody that wants the holy spirit i want you to line up they lined up all the way back to the wall and across the back i said devil i got your number this time glory to god hallelujah i stood up there and told them what the lord told me to tell them i said i want a spirit-filled person behind each person that wants to be filled and when i tell you lay hands on them and you that are coming to be filled the lord wants to fill you he's not holding back he wants you to be filled and you're going to hear words that's not english in your spirit that's the holy spirit giving the utterance speak it out and when i told them that then i told the people lay hands on them and lay hands on them speaking in tongues and when i did i think everything in that building was baptized with the holy spirit i remember one little nazarene mother had been raised in a nazarene church she would come to our meetings every time we were in ohio and she'd been seeking for the holy spirit for months and couldn't receive i saw her that morning flat of her back on the floor her hair snow white her hands raised speaking with other tongues as the spirit of god gave the utterance i helped her up she said brother swaggart it's better than you said it was it's better than you said it was and i thank god for the preachers in this church who are preaching the mighty baptism of the holy spirit and meetings that they're in all across this nation and then the second thing which i've already dealt with and i won't do it again the word tells us that israel will be brought back as i've already told you we're living in the closing days of time as we think of it hear that these two mighty prophecies the restoration of israel and the outpouring of the holy spirit are coming to pass and have come to pass it's not much time left now let me say this as i close the early church was anchored on the message of the cross with the meaning of the new covenant given to the apostle paul he said we preached christ crucified to the jews of stumbling block he said i know that until the greeks are gentiles foolishness i know that but we preach christ crucified because there's no other answer now that was the early church you can read it in the book of acts and the epistles but as the apostles died and those who knew them were taken home to glory little by little it didn't happen overnight it was over several centuries the church began to deteriorate began to lose its way until it finally morphed in the early 600s into the catholic church i know they'll tell you that it began with peter he was the first pope well if he was he didn't know it and i think he would have known it if he was and so they finally after fighting for over 300 years they nominated the bishop of rome to be the pope the first pope was in 6 11 i think and then in the early 1500s martin luther nailed his 9-5 thesis to the door in wittenberg germany that said the just shall live by faith praise god and the reformation began and then in the 1700s and 1800s the great holiness moves swept this nation and the world there they started in england as wales but swept these countries the great holiness move which was really the message of sanctification and then at the turn of the 20th century the mighty baptism with the holy spirit began to be brought back as joel the great prophet joel called us the latter rain the former rain that's the early church the latter frame that's now and it has come full circle because now the message of the cross is beginning to go out all over the entirety of the world glory to god [Music] hallelujah hallelujah i want to say that again it's come full circle and i know that that the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but some will some will and the lord is selecting choosing out these who will function in his manner in his way and exercise their faith in christ praise god and let me tell you you have the privilege and don't take it lightly of being a part of this move of god it'll be the last one before the rapture of the church now don't misunderstand the rapture could take place tonight but if it's if it tarries any this message of the cross is going out to the entirety of the world and we're getting more letters and emails now and let me tell you something it's just beginning there are going to be services that are going to go out over those television cameras all over the world that's going to see tens of thousands saved in a single service as the spirit of god begins to move upon hearts and upon lies it's going to happen praise god i said it's going to happen and you are a part of it god has chosen you you be radio but television by the internet you are a part of this great move don't take it lightly some of you say well brother swaggarts since i've been watching sbn the devil has fought me like i've never been fought before well that's a good sign he knows you you found the way glory to god and he wants to knock you off of it but if you'll hold to that nail scarred hand you're going to come forth with a victory such as you have never known before glory to god could you stand please could you stand thank you jesus praise god praise god praise god praise god go at the cross at the cross where i first saw the light and the burdens of my heart rolled away it was there by faith i received my sight and now i'm happy all the day here's what god the holy spirit has told me to say to you please he's called you as i've stated he's called you and some of you hearing that and knowing that to be the truth you're saying brother swagger there are some things in my life that should not be there i don't think that god can use me as he wants me to and i want you to step out walk down here you say well what will people think you'd better forget about what people think and realize what god knows and he's touching your heart i want you to come at the cross at the cross where i first saw the light and the burdens of my heart rolled away it was there by faith i received [Music] where i first saw the light and the burns on my heart [Music] oh [Music] and the birds [Music] the day we're going to sing it again i want you to just pour out your heart to god tell him lord i don't want that thing in my life whatever it is and it's none of my business to be frank with you it's between you and the lord lord i'm asking you to give me victory over this thing today whatever it might be and he'll do it well at the cross at the [Music] [Music] it was [Music] up [Music] [Music] happy lord i pray for these your people and lord as you gave simon peter so long ago victory victory in his heart and victory in his life i'm asking you for victory and every person that stands here today over every work of the flesh over every power of satan lord i take authority over nicotine over drugs over immorality i take authority over alcohol i take authority over jealousy envy malice unforgiveness in the name of jesus be free from these powers of darkness and we say it in jesus name glory to god turn around and love somebody well at the cross at the cross [Music] away
