Graham Norton's Chat Show Secrets: Drunk Guests and Carrie Fisher's Last Interview | This Morning

next year is 20 years it is terrifying decades of chat and it is it's kind of crazy because you know when you start any job you know you kind of think oh great I've got a job but if anybody said you'll be doing that job in two decades that's still loving it I'd have been you know I just wouldn't believe them if it's 20 years then and we ask you this all the time it's always you know some dream guess and you've said you love Tom Cruise you love Tom Hanks and Will Smith you know the people who light up a studio yeah and a great on a sofa but who does it leave you left with for the 20th anniversary see I don't the only people who care about are that are me and the people at my office will be like oh it's the 20th anniversary did that audiences don't care they just want to turn on and see the best show they can see the big stars we haven't got yet or we never had Julia Roberts unless we have in which case I apologize trivia London what about the royalty thing we don't see that there was a rumor that they were coming on the show and we got very excited in the office but like that rumor and we tracked it down and discovered that the person who started that room was me some book events a nice service and it got reported like they were considering coming on the show some people don't make an effort some people are drunk when they arrive well some people yes what Mark Wahlberg Mark Wahlberg now listen Mark Wahlberg started that he's been on a few times since but the famous time he came on he was fine and then what did you do to him I don't know what happened I think it's that sort of thing you know the way when you finish drinking that isn't the drunkest you're going to be time-lapse and you take it here and we put yeah but we couldn't get any stories going and then Michael Fassbender was on he was getting this story of where I was how this must be a good story Mark Wahlberg's letting him tell us we didn't wake him we were to license the there are the people we love having Mary margulies oh great and because you are on at 10:35 they you're allowed and the BBC allow you to let them go I mean but even even at that time of night some of Miriam's stories I think they go to the highest level at the BBC they're allowed to be broadcast and I think what helps is it's her yeah you don't mean if that was a young pop star who came on and told those stories you've gotta think oh that's horrible but because it's lovely Miriam these vile stories you somehow accept them we were talking about the special ones the ones that everybody loves to interviews and like Phil said you know will smear Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise but there's something that the skill that Tom Cruise has of knowing everybody what it it's odd then because he gets lots of bad press as you know but when you meet people who've worked with him no one I'd review I have never met anyone who was a bad word to say about him and he has the thing when he comes in downstairs you'll be introduced you know through how you were introduced to so and so this is blood and on the way out he'll go bye-bye Catherine you know but I know your name's Holly by the way and it's it's a trick it's obviously the other thing he does but my god it makes people love it I had it and and he and he will go round and see everybody a most absolutely absolutely you know being Tom Cruise is his full-time job and he is brilliant at UM one sad sad moment for for you because I know that you were very close friends was was the loss of Carrie Fisher just two weeks after she'd been on your show and you were numb after that it was extraordinary because it transpired that was her final interview you know that thing when you're like oh if we'd know but which I wish you'd done a better job I guess you know you just kind of think I will come back in a minute you know and it was such a shock it was such a shock and because she's someone who wasn't in my life all the time you know she would pop into London or I'd be in America we'd see each other that it's taken a long time to kind of figure out oh she has gone she has gone she nearly canceled that day she did did she was she was ill I feel bad talking about it because then it's as if oh you know we knew we didn't she was just a bit she was on to the weather to say never nobody get a potato no exactly so she did nearly cancel and then she thought Oh Graham will be nice to me and so she got herself at a car got herself the studio and got through the show and and you know we just thought oh well get well soon yeah and and then when we had the news of the heart attack you thought oh that's terrible but you sort of thought that can't be the end of Carrie Fisher because she was such a life force she must have had her on here I mean you know she was so larger than life it seems too short easily mundane could finish her with that final interview you did discuss the affair with Harrison Ford did you bring that up with him last week I didn't because it was interesting when we talked to Carrie about it I said to her you know she was obviously it's her story she couldn't tell it and I said but you know do you not feel bad that from now on everyone's going to ask her for word about this and it hadn't quite struck her and she felt terrible that that was going to be that was his her gift to him was that he's gonna have to talk about it forever so I didn't bring it up party because of that a party because you know he's not going to talk about it he's just gonna go I have no comment and he'll shut down and I think it's my job to keep the conversation float I'm not a journalist no you know who cares and you want everybody to sit there and feel comfortable and want to come to you and share those stories that they decide rather than have them pulled out like you know I I'm not the police I really I'm not there to interrogate people you

It was wonderful to hear him talk about his objectives as a host and some of his experiences on the show. To me his show is the best talk show going.

This is really interesting, but I don't understand why all the clips are heavily blurred out like that. It seems minor, but he's trying to talk about a show/appearance/situation then they show a blurry picture of what could be 3-4 human beings and a crisp, clear text block explaining what you could be seeing... it just seems like a poor directing/editing choice.
