Godly Men and Husbands (Biblical Manhood)

okay so I'm actually taking a break from our gospel series tonight and next week as well I feel like the Lord is leading me to talk about something kind of separate from the gospel series and so we're just going to take a break for a couple weeks and talk about something else and then we'll come back and pick up where we left off in the Gospels last week during the worship something kind of interesting happened and when it was brought to my attention it really got me thinking about some things after service well during during the worship I I kind of had this feeling something's going on but I didn't know what it was and did anybody else ever you know feel that way a little bit kind of felt like something was going on but weren't sure and I wouldn't asked my wife you know during worship but you know what's going on and she said you know you need to be praying there's some spirituals going on and after service six or eight different women came up to use her me or Amanda and they said there was there was a some kind of a spiritual attack going on during the worship service last week when one woman even even got nauseous and felt like she was gonna get sick and she had to get up and leave the room and so there was just a lot of a lot of women were feeling some kind of a spiritual attack going on and I started asking some of the men I didn't ask everybody but I asked some of the men and most of the all actually all the men I asked said they didn't really think there was anything spiritual going on they they kind of felt like something was off like you know we just weren't on the top of our game you know during worship or you know things weren't functioning right you know the keyboard went out and and it just seemed like things weren't really meshing together well but they didn't none of them really said well we feel like there was some kind of spiritual attack going on and so I thought that was interesting and then at the end of the service last week there was a word that was spoken and Jerry Jerry came up and he shared it and it was something that was shared with him and the word was that the men aren't really doing their job they've been lazy and they're not loving their wives the way they're supposed to and they need to step up their game and all of that together I thought you know God is God is trying to sell us something and I don't think it's just this congregation I think this is across the board men across the nation I can't speak for the rest of the world because I'm not familiar with other places in the world but I know in America there's there was a big a big attack on the family in America the enemy is really trying his best to destroy our families and whether you are aware of it or not it's there and tonight I want to talk about some of the things that the enemy is doing to try to destroy our families and I also want to talk specifically tonight I want to talk to the men next week we're going to talk to the ladies but tonight I want to talk to the men and specifically because men you have the responsibility you are the protector of your home you need to be aware of the attack of the enemy and you need to know how to defend your family how to defend your household and how to keep them safe from the enemy you guys with me all right so before I get into this teaching I want to talk about something real quick too the first eight years of our marriage we've been married 16 years now the first eight years of our marriage Amanda carried the weight of the spiritual leader in her house and during that time I did not realize that she was being the spiritual leader either I didn't realize that she was the one carrying the full load and it wasn't until the role shifted a little bit and then I became the spiritual leader and she said I'm I'm gonna follow you that's when I realized hey wait a minute I've been I've been following her this whole time and I didn't even know it and so I say this because I think that that's probably somebody here may feel the same way so let's jump into Ephesians 5 Ephesians 5:21 through 33 says wives submit to your own husband's as to the Lord for the husband is head of the wife as also Christ his head of the church and he is the savior of the body therefore just as the church is subject to Christ so let every so let the wives be to their own households and everything husbands love your wives just as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for her that he might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word that he might present her to himself as a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing but that she should be holy and without blemish so husband's ought to love their own wives as their own bodies he who loves his wife loves himself for no one ever hated his own flesh but nourishes and cherishes it just as the Lord does the church for we are members of the we're members of his body of his flesh and of his bones for this reason a man shall leave his father mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh this is a great mystery but I speak concerning Christ in the church nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself and let the wife see that she respects her husband and I want to point something out to you it the Bible doesn't say it's a good idea for the husband to be the head of that life it doesn't say it would be it would be a good option for the husband to be the head of the wife it doesn't say husbands you should try to be the head of the wife it says the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church so this isn't a goal for you to achieve your you're the head the Bible says you're the head you don't have to try to persuade somebody that you're the head you don't have to try to convince them you don't have to try to earn that the Bible says you are the problem that we have as most men aren't actually leading they're not acting as the head they're not doing what they've been called to do as the head and so in those cases we have something maybe similar to Deborah and Deborah was a judge and a prophetess in Israel and she she was living at a time after Hey after he had had died there was no men left to really lead Israel and so Deborah kind of had to fill that role Deborah went to a guy named Barack and she said you need to go and take care of this wicked ruler and Barack said to Deborah no I'm not gonna go not unless you go with me so she tried to tell Barak to lead but he wouldn't do it he wanted to follow her and that's that's what I see a lot of men in the church are doing not just this church but every church across the nation men are saying they're reluctant to lead they're reluctant to take the role they're reluctant to step up and follow God and they're wanting a woman to lead the way and so that's why we end up with people like Deborah because the men aren't doing what God has called them to do but it doesn't say it's a suggestion the man is the head it says man is the head just as Christ is the head of the church and so but it also says that man is to love his wife the way the Christ loves the church right and so as the head we have to be emulating Christ to our family we have to be representing Christ our family in a sense we are Christ to our family we are the embodiment of him we are his love to our wives we're his compassion to our family we provide for them we protect them we pray for them we we lead them we teach them we act as his representative and remember a few weeks ago we talked about how the representative when a king sends an ambassador that ambassador whatever he says and does is exactly as if the king himself had said and done it right we are ambassadors of Messiah to our family we represent him are we representing him well are we saying the things that he says are we doing the things that he does are we living our life the way that he would live it the way that he wants us to live it God defines the gender roles not society no matter how hard society wants to try the family is under an aggressive attack by the enemy there are three major texts that I want to talk about today there are others but I want to focus on three things today the feminist agenda the sexual revolution and the homosexual agenda those three things are a major attack against the family and a major attack against the church the feminist agenda is Satan's attempt to dismantle the biblical patriarchal family structure and destroy biblical male headship in the family pro-choice is one of the feminist movements as one is one part of the famous movement that promotes a woman's selfish desire to kill a child simply because she doesn't want the burden you realize that the feminist movement heads up the pro-choice they support it they push it pro-choice is murder aborting children is murder this is satanic feminism also encourages and supports the lesbian and gay agenda why does feminism support lesbians because feminists hate men and they hate marriage they are opposed to marriage I've seen so many quotes from leading feminists who say that marriage should be outlawed they also hate women they hate mothers they hate housewives they think I read a quote recently as a feminist saying that the the role of housewife is an illegitimate how they phrase it an illegitimate profession this is the way feminists feel about housewives it's an illegitimate profession they don't want you to be mothers they don't want you to be housewives they want you they promote the free sex agenda go out and sleep with whoever you want don't worry about marriage they promote abortion because if you're gonna go out and sleep with whoever you want and not get married you're gonna have kids well we don't want that so let's support abortion and get rid of those kids you see how dangerous deceptive and evil this is it's hard this is an attack on the family everything about it attacks the family attacks male headship it attacks woman as mother in house and an housewife it attacks the family structure itself it attacks male and female gender roles everything about it is geared to attack the biblical family has God designed it to be the sexual agenda is Satan's attempt to lure and entice men into sin to destroy the righteousness and them making it impossible for them to protect their home the sexual agenda is linked to feminism because it seeks to empower women as sexually dominant it tells people that marriage is not required for sex and this ties in with the pro-choice idea that you can have sex without the consequences of the sexual agenda tells women to use their body to control and dominate men so women dress sensually and become the seductress we see the sexual agenda in the Bible represented when Balaam told Balak to send women to lead the men of Israel astray and back up I forgot to mention that we see feminist agenda in the Bible represented by Jezebel the homosexual agenda is Satan's attempt to destroy the biblical family structure it attacks biblical marriage between a man and a woman it attacks biblical holiness in human sexuality and it distorts what a real man means what it means to be a real man and it distorts what love is they claim that homosexual love is is love that's not what the Bible describes this love we see the homosexual agenda represented in the Bible as sodom and gomorrah all of these three things are a combined attack against the family they're trying to redefine manhood and tear apart the family structure all of these attacks are seeking to undermine biblical headship and all of these attacks are tied together they all work together to strengthen each other and they attack the family on multiple fronts how many of you guys have ever watched a TV sitcom where they make the husband the father of the house an idiot have you guys ever seen that pretty much every television sitcom ever made that I've ever seen the husband is the biggest idiot in the entire show the father is the dumb guy I mean you think about home improvement to Tim the Toolman Taylor he was always doing something bonehead to get himself in trouble right I mean I that's something that was on when I was a kid I remember watching that show when I was a kid I know it's not on the air anymore but he was the biggest idiot and his wife would have to come in and save the day and bail him out right and this is portrayed all across television the men are presented as the bumbling fool the father and the husband is the idiot in the show most of the time they end up being outsmarted by their children right there presenting us with a reality that that they want us to have they're wanting to change people's minds they're wanting to present men as idiots and fools you look at movies and you see something different though you see men as psychopaths and warlords terrorists womanizers and criminals right so we have either you're if you're man you're their fool or you're a horrible awful person one of the other seems like the the two options that they present us with in the media those say media outlets portray Christian men as cold without compassion boring opposed to fun or controlling and power-hungry or weak and submissive or misogynistic or hypocritical that's how they portray Christian mean that's how they portray us right so the world has a very poor opinion of men and especially Christian man unfortunately some of those caricatures aren't too far off the problem today is that men male adults I should say act more like boys than men in so many cases I know when I was working at a computer place a few years back I was I was a web designer and I worked with a bunch of computer tech guys and guys who were into different things like that programmers and whatnot and almost every day it seemed like I would hear somebody having a conversation about videogames these guys are minds they're in their 30s they go home after work and they play video games for eight and ten hours they have kids they have a wife and kids but they spend their entire evening playing video games are you a man because you're acting like you're 12 you know this is the kind of stuff that we're seeing in society these days you ever go out to eat and you look at the restaurant you look around you see other people and you look around the room and everybody's sitting there staring at their phone like this their wife and kids are around them and they're just doing their own thing not paying attention to anything that's going on around them because they're too busy on their phone throw up you have a wife and kids why are you staring at your phone all night first Corinthians 13:11 says when I was a child I spoke as a child I understood as a child I thought as a child but when I became a man I put away childish things men we need to put away the childish things far too often men devote their time to TV video games sports hobbies and many other selfish ambitions all while neglecting their family there are also large numbers of men who abandoned their families when they get a girl pregnant and they leave her to raise the child alone this is a huge problem in the United States so that that free sex agenda that was pushed in the 60s and 70s saying you don't have to be married well the problem is a lot of women ended up having kids and they didn't have a man to help them raise them so they raised them by themself why are men acting like children why haven't men in their 20s 30s 40s 50s not grown up why are they still acting like teenagers I believe it's because they were never taught how to be a godly man in World War one the great back up the beginning of the 19th century we had World War one the Great Depression in World War two those three things combined packed a huge punch against the family because they were a catalyst for the rise of women in the workplace and a catalyst for the feminist movement to take place that's where the big push for those things took place around that same time churches started offering children's church and youth programs it's also when public school became a big thing and these things started separating children from their parents and it took the spiritual responsibility of the parent of training their own children away from them because parents now send their kids to children's church and a youth group and they don't take the responsibility themselves of raising up their kids they don't teach them how to be a god of the man they just trust in the children's pastor to do that or the youth pastor to do that well though they're a trained professional they'll probably do a better job than me no it's your kid you're gonna do the best job of anybody God gave that child to you because he trusted you to raise that child he didn't trust the youth pastor with that kid because he didn't give it to him he gave it to you it's your child you have the responsibility to raise that child in the 60s and 70s we see the sexual revolution take place and sex outside of marriage became commonplace this resulted in large numbers of children being born out of wedlock in single-parent homes with absent fathers this problem caused women to seek abortions you see how it's this big domino effect right the women who didn't get abortions to raise the women who didn't get abortions to raise their children in single-parent homes without a father and many of those boys ended up becoming homosexual I took a in college I had a minor in psychology I majored in theology minored in psychology and I took a class it was called a sexual dysfunction it's one of my psychology classes that I took and in this sexual dysfunction class we talked about different things that cause certain types of mental disorders and I remember when we were talking about homosexuality it was at that time considered a sexual dysfunction I think since then it's been demoted and no longer considered that but during the time when I was in college it was considered a sexual dysfunction and they said that the three from what I remember the three main causes for homosexuality is an absent father early exposure to pornography and sexual abuse those are the three main causes of homosexuality there are a few others I don't remember what the other ones were but those were the three primary causes and so we see because women are raising children in single-parent homes they have an absent father we also see a lot of homes where the they have a dad but they might as well not have one because he's still absent anyway because he's spending all this time playing video games or watching TV or working some men are just workaholics and the kids never see him and they never really know what it is to have a father so they might as well not have one because he's so absent there is a battle going on for your family the enemy is trying really really hard to destroy your family Ephesians 6:12 it says for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers against the rulers of darkness of this age against spiritual hosts of wickedness in Lebanon places this battle is a spiritual thing what's going on in those areas that I've been talking about is spiritual feminists wants you to think that men are terrible leaders that we are abusive and controlling and that male headship means women are slaves that's what they wanted that's what they want you to think male headship means contrary to what the world says biblical headship is not about dominating your wife or ruling over her or abusing her or treating her like a slave I want to I want to read again what Ephesians 5 says and I want you listen to see if you hear anything that talks about abusing your wife or mistreating her or dominating her being cruel making her your slave does it see if it says anything about that let's let's look at it for the husband is head of the wife as also Christ as head of the church husbands love your wives just as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for her that he might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water of the word that he might present her to himself a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing but that she should be holy and without blemish so husband's ought to love their own wives as their own bodies he who loves his wife loves himself for no one has ever hated his own flesh but nourishes and cherishes it just as the Lord does the church do you guys kit it says love your wives and sacrifice yourself for her it says nothing about dominating her making her your slave somebody says it says sacrifice your for her just as Christ sacrificed himself for us loved her the way that Christ loved us doesn't say lord over her doesn't say boss her around Peter doesn't say that he says love her biblical headship is about love and self-sacrifice not dominating and lording it over biblical headship is about cherishing your wife and making her better you realize that yeah that he might present her to himself a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing love your wife the way that Christ loved the church make her better that's your job man biblical headship is about being so christ-like that it's evident to everyone else that you're the head if you were acting walking talking and leading like Christ your family is gonna follow they're not gonna have a reason not to if you are being a representation of Yeshua in your home your wife will gladly follow you headship is about being the priest prophet provider and protector of your house but to do this you need to have a close walk with the Lord you want to be the priest of your house a priest intercedes for the people right the priest offers up prayers daily for the people a priest offers up sacrifices for the people for their sins what does he say to sacrifice yourself for your family right you intercede for your family daily praying for them that's this morning or this evening when we got we had everybody pray over your wives and children I wanted to do that to show you this is what you're supposed to be doing daily we're supposed to be blessing our wives we're supposed to be blessing our children we're supposed to be praying over them interceding for them this is part of your role as a man this is part of your responsibility as a man you need to be praying for your family every day we're also the prophet of our home what is a prophet do the Prophet brings forth the Word of God he speaks God's Word to his family teaching them what God says in his word teaching them to obey His commandments teaching them to live their life according to his standards that's what a prophet does you were called to be a prophet in your home to be a teacher to bring the Word of God into your family teaching your children teaching your wife how to love God and how to follow him that's your role man you are the Prophet in your house you need to start doing this you are the provider this is when most people are okay with this isn't one most people yeah I get this I'm the provider I go to work make a paycheck and take care of my family but that's not the only thing a provider does a provider cares for the needs of his family a provider puts their needs above his own if there's three pieces of toast and there's four of you a godly man says you guys take the toast I'll go without sacrifices his own desires for the betterment of his family that's what a godly man does and that's how you provide for your family sometimes that means you go without so that they have in our world today though we don't see that we see men who go off and gamble blow their paycheck or go out drinking and blow their paycheck or go out and buy some new technology and their family suffers and you're at the protector of your home I know a lot of you guys probably have guns at home to help protect your family that's fine that's not what I'm talking about talking about protecting your home from the spiritual attacks yes you protect your home from physical attacks - yes guard your family protect them but just as you would guard and protect them physically you need to guard and protect them spiritually because our enemy is fighting us in a spiritual realm our war is not against flesh and blood remember and so we have got to be armed and dangerous spiritually you remember and in the book of Acts I don't remember exactly where it's at it wasn't part of my notes this is a sidetrack in the book of Acts there's a place where some some guys were no it was one of the Gospels anyway there's some guys that were going to cast out a demon and oh no his axe and the demon says you know Paul I know and Jesus I know but I don't know you right they said in the name of Jesus whom Paul preaches we cast you out and they said we know Paul in Jesus but we don't know you they weren't a threat to those demons they weren't a threat to that enemy they were spiritually disarmed but you know what when Yeshua spoke to a demon they fled when the disciples when the apostles spoke to demons they fled why because they had spiritual authority they were armed as mighty men of God righteous holy godly men and the devil flees he is terrified of a godly man because we have the authority of Messiah when we are walking in righteousness that's why Satan flees you want to protect your family be righteous says the prayers of a righteous man availeth much I've heard I've heard the famous women say that the curse of the fall is the reason why the Bible says that male headship takes place I've heard this argument they'll they'll cite Genesis through 3:16 where it says to the woman he said I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your kin and your conception in pain you shall bring forth children your desire shall be for your husband and he shall rule over you and they'll say see that's the origin of male headship it's the curse of the fall that's what I've heard feminist Christians argue what's interesting though is if you look at that word desire there says your desire shall be for your husband but he will rule over you that word that says desire in Hebrews Tezuka and it's used in Genesis 4:7 listen how it's used here if you will if you will do well he's talking to Cain by the way if you'll do well you will not be will you not be accepted and if you do not do well sin lies at the door and its desire is for you but you shall rule over it see these two phrases are almost identical your desire shall be for your husband but he will rule over you sins desires to be for you but you will rule over it you see how those phrases parallel each other the word desire there is exactly identical what a sin desiring to dominate you to conquer you to rule over you but in contrast you should rule over it he says says the wife your desire will be for your husband but he will rule over you you see feminism is showing us that curse the curse is that a woman will want to dominate her husband that's what sin is telling them to do - the woman God said your desire shall be for your husband and he shall rule over you and to Cain he said sins desire is for you and your show rule over it man's authority over woman as the head does not come from the curse of the fall look at first Corinthians 11 3 through 10 it says but I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ and the head of woman is man and the head of Christ is God every man praying or prophesying having his head covered dishonoureth it but everyone who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head for that is one in the same as if her head were shaved for if a woman is not covered let her also be shorn but if it is shameful for a woman to shave to be shorn or shaved let her be covered for man indeed ought to not cover his head since he is the image and glory of God but woman is the glory of man for man is not from woman but woman from man nor was man created for woman but woman for man for this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head because of the angels so you see he's citing Genesis chapter 2 as the origin of man is a head because we look in Genesis chapter 2 says and the Lord God said it is not good that man should be alone I will make him a helper suitable for him woman was created for man Eve was created for Adam to be his helper out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them and whatever Adam called each living creature that was its name you see this is authority that God has given at him and by him naming those animals that shows he had authority over those animals right that was part of his authority and to every beast of the field but for Adam there was no there was not found a helper comparable to him and the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam and he and as he slept and he and he took one of the ribs and closed up the flesh in his place then the rib which the Lord took which the Lord God had taken from him he made into a woman and he brought her to the man and Adam said this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh she shall be called woman because she was taken out of man is she Adam named her this shows his authority he was the first one created she was created for him he named her all these things show in Genesis to Adam already had authority God had already established patriarchal headship so when Genesis 3 comes along that's not where it ordered originates the that's not where it changed that's not where something happened with headship in the family it was already established in Genesis 2 however Adam failed as a spiritual leader God gave him authority to lead his wife and he failed and it's recorded in the scriptures as an example to us Genesis 2:16 through 18 it says and the Lord God commanded the man saying of every tree of the garden you may freely eat but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat for in that day you eat of it you shall surely die and the Lord God said it is not good that a man should be alone I will make a helper comparable to him so we see before Eve even existed God told Adam don't eat from that tree don't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil before Eve was ever even around he entrusted Adam with that commandment but then we see in Genesis 3:1 through 6 now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made and he said to the woman has God indeed said you shall not eat of every tree of the garden and the woman said to the serpent we may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden but of the fruit of the tree which in the midst of the garden God has said you shall not eat it nor shall you touch it lest you die I think it's interesting that ad is that phrase nor shall you touch it I don't know if Eve was adding that or if that's something Adam told her but I think it's interesting then the serpent said to the woman you shall not surely die for God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God knowing both good and evil so when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and they was pleasant to the eyes and that it was desirable to make one wise she took of its fruit and ate and she also gave to her husband who was with her and he ate she was good for food pleasant to the eyes and desirable to make one wise the lust of the flesh the lust of the eyes and the pride of life right those are the things that weren't the Bible warns us about but you notice that Adam was standing right there with her she says that she took some of the fruit and ate it and gave it to Adam who was there with her he failed he's supposed to protect her from that he failed he wasn't doing his job as a protector and he let her follow Satan follow temptation fall into sin because Adam failed as the head Genesis 3 9 through 12 it says then the Lord God called Adam and said to him where are you so he said I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked and I hid myself and he said who told you that you were naked have you eaten from the tree from which I commanded you that you should not eat then the man said the woman whom you gave me she gave me from the tree and I ate it Adam blamed Eve for his failure Adam should have stopped Eve and said no God said not to eat that fruit she gave me some and I just ate it it's her fall wimp Genesis 3:17 says then Adam said then to Adam he said because you have indeed heeded the voice of your wife and have eaten from the tree which I commanded you saying you shall not eat of it cursed is the ground for your sake and toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life because you listen to the voice of your wife and not to God Adam was responsible for the fall because he failed to lead his wife to protect his wife he was not being a prophet priest provider and protector he failed now Eve has some part in that too but if Adam would have done his job he would have kept me from doing that the head of the house is responsible for everyone in his household being the head doesn't mean you have more power means you have more responsibility you realize that you were the head of your house you have a huge responsibility the success or failure of your family sets on your shoulders man you realize that Noah think about this because of Noah's righteousness his entire family was saved from the flood it had nothing to do with Noah's wife had nothing to do with Noah's sons had nothing to do with Noah's sons wives because Noah was a righteous man his entire household was saved he realized that man your righteousness is very important do you love your wife and kids live it be a righteous example to your family lead them in righteousness lead them in holiness lead them in faith lead them in prayer lead them in worship lead them in the word Abraham's faith brought blessings to countless numbers of people right he said through you all nations will be blessed right Abraham's faith bless brought blessings to so many people generations of people an entire nation of people for thousands of years I want to read this it's Genesis 18 and the Lord said shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him for I have known him in order that I might command his children and his household after him that they keep the way of the Lord to do righteousness and justice and that the Lord may bring Abraham that the Lord may bring to Abraham what has spoken to him so says for I have known him I think this is really important the you remember a couple weeks ago we talked about in the Sermon on the Mount Matthew seven says many will come to me and say say say Lord Lord did we not prophesy in your name a cast out demons your name and do all kinds of mighty things in your name and he will turn to them and say away from me I never knew you I think so many times people know about God they know about Yeshua but they don't know him and he doesn't know them it's all head knowledge it's not a relationship but it says about Abraham he says for I have known him in order that he may command his children and his household after him that they keep the way of the Lord to do righteousness and justice because Abraham knew God because God knew Abraham that relationship it was because of that relationship that Abraham was able to lead his family into the commandments of God into righteousness and justice right it is by faith the Abraham's faith many nations were blessed and so our faith is important men your faith is important would you turn with me to Deuteronomy chapter 6 I want to read this one out loud together you guys are probably familiar with this when it's the Shema Deuteronomy six verses four through nine I want to read that specific section everybody got it here o Israel the Lord our God the Lord is one you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart with all your soul with all your strength and these words which I command you today shall be in your heart you shall teach them diligently to your children and you shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way when you lie down and when you rise up you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates and I know most of you probably recite at least part of this daily I'm assuming you're guessing for most of you I know we do this is one of those prayers that that is traditionally prayer twice a day morning and evening but you know a lot of people do it you know maybe once a day and but you know it's one that most of you are probably familiar with here o Israel the Lord our God the Lord is one love the Lord your God with all your heart soul mind strength but it says these words which I teach you today shall be in your heart and you shall teach them diligently to your children this is a commandment you shall teach them diligently to your children we are commanded to teach our children the Word of God we are commanded to instruct our children how to walk in his ways it's a commandment so men your family is under attack you were being attacked from multiple different directions there are multiple agendas trying to tear your family away from you we see it all over the place you see it in movies TV media video games internet politics all over the place people at work friends and family even the enemy is trying to destroy your family that is his goal because the family is at the heart of Scripture well the very first thing God created was male and female and he said be fruitful and multiply the very first commandment is scriptures to be fruitful and multiply God's desire is to grow and raise up godly offspring to have families communities nations right following after him and the family is the primary way that that will happen the primary way for God's kingdom to be built its to family because when you when you are are when you have faith when you become righteous man your family learns they grow they have faith they become righteous the man when you fail your hypocrite when you're critical when you're demeaning disrespectful rude hateful domineering cold distant absent your family suffers right you set the tone you ever noticed when you're in a good mood everybody else gets in a good mood when you're in a bad mood everybody else gets in a bad mood it happens this is men love your wife the way Christ loved the church to care for her as your own body right when your wife is stressed out do you try to help her get rid of stress or do you say I don't wanna hang out with her she's she's in a bad movie I'm gonna go out do something else with her friends right what is that time of the month you make yourself a little more distant or do you try to care for her you try to nurture her right be a man take care of your wife she is first priority I'm speaking to myself as much as anybody else here I fail sometimes I fail a lot of times I'm not the best husband I think most of the time I'm probably a fairly mediocre husband if I'm gonna be honest with myself it's easy to look at other people and say well I'm a better husband the neck guy right but when we compare ourselves to Christ may we all fall short but that's who the Bible compares us - he's not comparing us to Homer Simpson he's comparing us to schewe the messiah so we've got to raise the bar guys we've got to do a better job of loving our wives and raising up our children don't let the enemy destroy us you by your heads with me
