On this episode of "Ghost Hunters"... I got chills. ...We travel to the nearly 200-year-old Madison Seminary in Madison, Ohio. Two hundred and twenty confirmed deaths here. Makes your skin crawl. ...where an entrepreneur catering to ghost-hunting tourists has suddenly found himself in over his head. We were walking out of this room and an arm came out and hit them in the neck. Clotheslined him? Clotheslined him. Our team is put to the test... Please, let Richel be. ...as we face what could be our most challenging haunting yet. What the hell was that, dude? Richel and Brandon fall mysteriously ill... I just don't feel good, man. ...and Brian is pushed to the edge. Are you alright? [crying] No. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] [ Voice exhales ] [ Buzzer, lock clicks ] -Hey. What's up, dude? -Hey, man. Come on in. Man, sit down. -Ah! -Alright. So. -What's up? Guy I know, his name's Adam, reaches out to me, sends me a video message of a location that he purchased several years ago. [ Ominous chord strikes ] It's called Madison Seminary and he started doing these ghost tours and allowing people coming in, investigate. When we first started "Ghost Hunters," we had no idea the impact it would make. As a result, we've seen an increase in the number of locations that will allow amateur investigators in to try to experience what they've seen on TV firsthand. But, now, he's havin' some problems there. I'm glad that there are a lotta people who are excited about the paranormal, but, sometimes they get ahead of themselves. They confuse ghost hunting and having their own experience with paranormal investigation. This is what he actually sent me, if you wanna watch that. Yeah, sure. Hey, Daryl. It's been about a year since we last talked. We are still running our public ghost tours, but in the past couple of months, the activity has changed out here at Madison Seminary dramatically. [ Sinister chord strikes ] It feels aggressive, at times. It feels negative. Honestly, I'm finding a hard time even describing it. On top of all of this, I've even noticed a change in my volunteers' behaviors and their attitudes, even their emotional well-being, and some visitors have even been physically assaulted. I've been here for years. This place was easy. You've been here with me. You know that. Why now? Why, in the last 3 months, is this change happening? You know how much this building means to me and I wanna keep its doors open, but I don't want it to be dangerous and, whatever we can do to fix this, that's what I'm lookin' for. So, now, it sounds like you've been here before, yeah? Yeah, the place is pretty active. I've investigated there several times, even before he owned the building, and it seems like things have changed. Right. I mean, I know this wasn't in our plans, but people might be getting hurt, -Right. so I think we need to get there right away. -Yeah, absolutely. -Alright. Let's do it. Alright, man. We're heading out. Excuse me! Look at this guy. He ain't carrying anything. What's that about? -I'm holding the door! Adam bought this property and was opening it to paranormal investigation, which, to me, is a noble thing. A lotta people wanna experience this and they don't have a place to go to do that, but, we have a responsibility to make sure everyone is safe in that process. Ahh! So, when you get a case like this, where people are claiming the activity is getting darker, we have to respond right away and, by helping Adam, we could help everybody else who comes through that building. [ Rock outro plays ] [ Suspenseful music plays ] Alright. Cool, so I just started looking up on Madison Seminary. Turns out that it was built in 1846. It started as an institute of higher education and then, it became a home for Civil War veterans and Civil War veteran family members, like a lotta widows, you know. Then, Wow. after a while, it became a mental rehabilitative facility. My interest is to find out how the mental facility was run. -Oh, of course, yeah. -You know? Back in the day, not all of those necessarily always treat people the way they should have. -They didn't know how to treat most diseases and stuff, so they would do lobotomies. They would do all sorts of crazy things. Seems like some of the ghost tours and the paranormal investigative tours that people do there are really centered on the fact that it was a mental institution. -Right. -Alright. It looks like that's it, huh? Is that it, Daryl? -Oh, wow-ow. -Yep, that's it. Grant: The reason we're rushing into this one, guys, is because there are reports of people getting hurt at this location. Daryl, Kristen, and I will go on the tour. The rest of you guys, get the gear out and then interview the volunteers to see if you can find out more about how this place has changed. Roger dodger. [ Eerie music plays ] [ Ominous chord strikes ] [ Suspenseful music climbs ] [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] Daryl: Nice office, man. -Grant: What a place! -Richel: Yeah. So, clearly, this building has a lotta history to it. Oh, it absolutely has a rich history. It's 170 years' worth of it. Over all this time, there were multiple names given to the facility, but, when it was a school, when it started in 1847, a lot of those boys would go on to be priests, clergymen, so the name Madison Seminary stuck. But it doesn't become really fascinating with the history until like the 1960s. The Ohio Department of Health took the building over and used it as a facility for mentally disabled women and former inmates from the Ohio Women's Reformatory. It eventually closed and was used by the city for various things. In 1993, it would be purchased by a nursery who literally used it for storage. -Okay. -Mm-hmm. -And that's all that it was used for, until I came along in 2016. I got it. No one wanted to help me. No one wanted to talk about it. Really? If anything, this was "the nuthouse." What are the rumors of the conditions here and what possibly happened to the women that were staying here? So with a lot of the history, we've had to dig it up ourselves and we could've went farther, but we stopped after over roughly 220 confirmed deaths here. I have no doubt there was abuse here. -All women? -All women. Daryl: Yeah. -Wow. -Now, I have a love for history and, given, I know the place is haunted, so I wanted to share this as an attraction with everybody. That was the goal and I have assembled a really good crew that keep the tours running, you know? They run any events we do. And they do it for the love of the place? -The love of the place. -Yeah. -Wow. -It's all volunteer-based. -Strictly volunteer. -Oh. And, in the last three months, at least, I've seen a change in their personalities, where people that are always happy and fun-loving are turning into closed-off individuals. What has kinda changed in the past four months, that you can think of? I can't. That's the hard part about it, is I can't figure out exactly what it is that's going on. -Yeah? -Because, literally, I would walk these halls, opening the building, not even be afraid, and, now, there's times I can't even make it past these stairs. [ Voice exhales ] You just feel it. It's like a heaviness, a fear, -Yeah. -and I used to never have the fear. With the hauntings, there's a lot of alleged things going on in this property. -Well, I'll tell you what. Why don't we take a look at some of these hot spots, so we know exactly, you know, where to direct our efforts? -Yeah. -Yeah? You wanna show us around a little bit? -Let's do it, brother. Thank you. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] Alright. So where are we now? This is ground zero, when it comes to paranormal claims. We are standing in the asylum. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] This is where some of the most mentally ill patients would've been kept. The claims range from disembodied voices, shadows, footsteps. These wheelchairs? Have been seen, by guests, moving. Wow. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] Recently, just down these hallways here, the first physical assault happened. And I was here. I was here when this happened. We were giving one tour and we were walking out of this room and it was two people back. There was an individual, said that an arm, it felt like an arm came out and hit them in the neck. -Clotheslined him? -Clotheslined him. If this was someone acting, it was some of the best acting I've ever seen. -Interesting. -Yeah. If you look on the floor here, these marks here, they really bother me. So you think these marks on the floor are from somebody being tied to a bed or chained to a bed and being abused? And fighting it? Fighting it and, yeah. Daryl: Okay. Kristen: Yuck. Who knows the fights that happened in this room, you know? That stuff's gotta be stained on the walls. Makes your skin crawl. Yeah. Right here, this room, it's designed differently than the others. I added the table and things like this, but, I did that because I do believe this might've been an operating room. Okay. These women were treated subhumanly. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] This is the oldest structure, 1847, right here. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] At the turn of the century, any woman that was displaced from the Civil War, if your husband died, or brother, any kinda caretaker, you were put here. And this is the place where we've had the report of a 7'0" figure traveling from room to room, back and forth. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] Grant: What is this? This is the basement. Now, when it comes to the activity, this is where there's all the reports of girls having their hairs pulled, butts touched, everything. My mind, if I'm trying to figure this out, would say some boiler room operator, you know? He's just a maintenance worker, never gets to see the ladies. Or the Sun. [ Laughter ] Or the Sun. This is it. Or this is where, maybe, women were brought against their will. -It is possible. -These are the dark places where nobody goes. [ Sinister music plays ] Grant: Wow, this is, uh -- Kristen: Yeah. -Kimmell: It's a lot to take in. [ Suspenseful music plays ] If this fails, what happens, you know? There is no backup plan. Like I said, this has to work, whatever it takes. Basically, for all the walls here to stay standing, it relies on people, be they living or dead, and that all has to be synergistic and working -It's cooperation, mm-hmm. -as a well-oiled machine and, given all the information and history you gave us, we will do our best to figure out what's goin' on here and why things have changed. -Thank you. -Yeah. [ Upbeat rock plays ] We're often called into locations to help determine if it's haunted or not, but, when a location has documented activity over the course of many years, our focus shifts. It's like such a creepy thing. It's not about, "Is there activity?" It's, "Why is there activity? Why has it escalated? Why has it grown darker?" Yeah, right now I'm in the asylum. Not a place you probably wanna be. But, when a client starts using terms like aggressive or angry or dark, you have to put your guard up... ...and, no matter what they say, you have to believe that they're earnest in what they're experiencing and what they're feeling. People are claiming to see this 7'0" shadow figure. Maybe we can capture whatever's going on down there. So, going into this first night, I want the team to tackle some of the most important hot spots right off the bat. Brian and Richel will head up to the asylum and Brandon and Mustafa will check out the Civil War building on the opposite side. Meanwhile, Daryl, Kristen and I will hang back to avoid any noise contamination. [ Suspenseful music intensifies ] Alright, team. Let's go lights out. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] Okay. This is Brian and Richel. We're up on... the asylum and it is -- It is 11:53. 11:53. I'll tell you what I wanna do. Right down in here is where Adam saw somebody come outta here. -Okay. -and he got punched in the throat right here, bang. Adam saw it happen. -Yeah. So, if you wanna set up the binaural deal down here and you can listen. I wanna do EVP from right here. -Okay. -You know what I mean? So, Richel and I are using the binaural microphone. What it is designed to do is give us that superhuman hearing and, if a noise occurs, we can tell which direction it's coming from. So, to any of the ladies that are up here, how are you treated? Do you feel like you're gettin' the care that you need? I thought I just heard something over here, like a moan or something. A moan in this room? [ Suspenseful music climbs ] Anybody in here with me? [ Suspenseful chord strikes ]? I can hear walking behind you. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] What are you doin' in here? You can still hear it? No, not now. So, Richel and I just started an EVP session in the asylum and Richel heard a moan in the common area. A moan in this room? Yeah. I pursued that sound and, now, Richel's picking up footsteps other than mine on the binaural microphone. Are you used to seein' men up here? Are you frightened of me? Are you walkin' again? No. Where are you hearin' the walkin'? Down this way, now. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] Okay, so, maybe they're tryin' to go a different direction from me. You wanna trade? I mean, you're a man, -Yeah, let's try it. -so they may not wanna speak to you. We were hearing footsteps on the binaural microphone and it seemed like it was trying to get away from us, essentially. Wherever we were at, it was at the opposite end. So we figured that, maybe, if I started asking the questions, whatever was up here would stop running away. Are you in here? There was a loud breath on this thing, man. Where? In my left ear. Are you in here? [ Thudding ] [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] Okay, where did it sound like it was comin' from? In here. Okay, I'm gonna grab the stuff. Ugh! I don't like this room. [ Eerie music plays ] I don't feel good in this room, at all. You okay? No. [sobs] Step out of the room, then. [ Suspenseful music plays ] Is there a reason that you seem not to like people in this building? So, right now, Brandon and I are on the second floor of the Civil War building. We have our thermal camera and we've placed our team camera, a data logger, and a motion detector at the end of the hall. We're hoping we can make some sort of contact with the shadow figure that's been reported here. We hear that there's someone that walks up and down this hallway. Are you walking to visit people in their rooms? [whispering] Oh, man. It's real quiet, isn't it? It just feels super quiet. So, Mustafa and I headed over to the Civil War building to look into these claims of this shadow person being seen on the second floor. [ Snap ] -What was that? -What the hell was that, dude? Something just got thrown, dude. -What? -Alright. Something just got thrown right here, Mustafa. Bring the data logger. Yeah, okay. [ Beeping ] Oh, dude, it's goin' off, look. -Yeah. -Oh [bleep] Is someone here with us? [ Beeps ] Lookit. Lookit. Lookit, guys. I got chills. -To the left, dude. -Yeah, I feel it. I feel it. Let's go. Let's cut it off. [ Beeping ] Who's in here with us? I feel like I should not go in here. [ Suspenseful music climbs ] Oof! My god, dude. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] Unh, now I kinda got that weird, like... Feeling in your stomach? Yeah, dude. Really? Yeah. [ Beep ] There's someone in here with us right now. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] [ Beeping ] Are you tryin' to let Richel know something? Are you tryin' to get her attention? Are you being mistreated? How you doin' in there? [crying] I'm not doin' great. So, Richel and I entered what looked like an operating room in the asylum. She started feelin' a heavy presence and it looked like she started to get ill. So we tried to carry on with the investigation, but, at that point, when I saw that she was clearly in pain, the investigation part stops, for me. Are you gonna be okay? -Yeah. -It's about gettin' over there and makin' sure she's good to go and I will do whatever it takes to take that away from her. If there's somethin' that you're wantin' to say to Richel, you could say it to me, too. There's a flashing light in there. [ Clicks ] Like up on this. Where? It keeps flashing right there, like in between those two marks? [ Clicks ] Was that your stomach? -Did you hear that? -Was that your stomach? -That was not my stomach. That wasn't your stomach?! Yeah. Go back in there. Put the headphones on and listen to me. I'll stay in here. So, after hearing the moan in the asylum, we decided to focus on the operating room again and, this time, we both felt the heavy presence. [ Exhales ] Pull through, man. You got it? -Yeah. -You tell me if you need to get outta here. We'll get outta here. [ Beeping ] -It's goin' off. -It is. [ Beeping ] It's goin' off. If you're in this room, please, if you could just let Richel be, and you can do -- you can tell me what you need. [ Squeaking ] [ Click-click ] [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] Did you hear somethin' again? It sounded like a door shutting. [ Squeaking ] [ Click-click ] Okay, which way? 'Cause I heard it down that way. I did, too. [hushed] Man, oh, man. [ Exhaling ] I'm comin' down the hallway right now. Phew! [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] Okay, I think you're runnin' from us. Phew. I'm tellin' you, man, I have the goose bumps like you can't even believe and I wanna know... Oh, damn it. Phew. I wanna know: Are you scared to tell me what's goin' on here because you're afraid that somethin' worse will happen? Phew! It's super heavy in here. I feel completely uncomfortable down here. I don't get feelings like this. I'm not an investigator that relies on those kinda feelings and I'm gettin' 'em right now. I've never had 'em before. I got one last question for you. If you couldn't tell us on the -- [ Exhales forcefully ] On the -- Are you alright? No! No. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] [ Frustrated sigh ] Can you tell me who's hurtin' you or who's mistreatin' you? Just give me a name. It's absolutely terrible to hurt women or children, or anybody! [ Exhales forcefully ] It was very heavy for me and I felt like any person that would harm women like that, I'm goin' to battle and that's what I felt like I was headin' towards. So, could ps-- one of the ladies up here, or anybody, just give me the name of who this guy is. Please. I have to go. Watch this. I-I gotta go. [ Voice exhaling ] That place is super intense up there. From the moment we got up there, she felt like she had gotten -- I felt sick a couple times. I'm not gonna go into details 'cause if someone else is goin' up there, I wanna see if they have the same thing. Okay, so you don't wanna describe the pain. That's smart. -The atmosphere was super heavy. I was feelin' bad for these people upstairs that may have been mistreated. -Okay. And I was gettin' pissy about it, at that point, and then I just decided I needed to get outta there. To ground yourself for a moment. -So, I had to get out. -Shake it. Yeah, you weren't professional anymore. Nope, and I needed to get out, yeah. That's good. Good for you, man. Good call, man. -Daryl: Yeah. -What's up, guys? -Crazy. -Hey. -What's up? [ Laughter ] How'd it go for you guys? Dude, you explain what happened. I was standin' there, doin' an interview, and, all of a sudden, a rock is thrown. Kristen: Oh, geez. -Grant: Really? -Yeah. -Wait, from... -From behind -- -...inside? Both: Yeah. -As soon as that happens, a rush of cold air hits me and it feels like it goes through me. -Okay. -And then, we just got the sense that we just were not wanted there, whatsoever. Yeah, been there, man. It's weird. Once that happened, my stomach started to hurt. I had to like bend over. I felt so sick. Same exact thing happened with her. What do you mean? You had the same exact experience? My back hurt so bad, like I was having back labor. What? And Brian, I mean, I'm lookin' at you now and you're shakin'. -Yeah, I know, dude. -Like this is not -- This is out of character for you. I mean, wouldn't you agree, Richel? Totally outta character. Are you alright, Brian? No! [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] That's the answer. Richel: It was really hard for me to see Brian like that. I have never seen him experience any feelings, of any sort, and, for him to be that upset about it... I'm gonna talk to Brian for a second. ...he's still not okay. Like I'm worried about him right now. Anytime somebody has something like that, that they've never experienced before, [ Poignant tune plays ] I like to try to take a minute, okay? -Yeah. -I'm not trying to draw too much attention to it, or anything, but, I just wanna make sure you're alright and -- I mean, I'm good, I guess. [laughing] I'm waiting for you in there. You're like, "I'm fine. I'm fine," and I know you're not fine and, when you said, "No!" I was like, "Okay, now, he's ready." I am not the kinda person that will try to show any kind of weakness or anything like that when it's got to do with any kinda team. I would put myself [crying] before anybody on the whole squad, in any kinda harm's way. That's just the way I am. We know that. And to be to the point where I couldn't go through with it, [sniffle] just... eats me alive. -Alright. When your emotions took more control, when you were thinkin' about the horrible things that happened here, it came to a head and you had a decision there: to lash out or to not, and you did what it took to not -[Sniffle] -and that's the kind of respect the entities in there deserve. You should be proud. Do you understand what I'm sayin'? -Mm-hmm. -They don't need people lashin' out, chewin' them out. -No. This is not a weakness moment. This is a moment of amazing strength. So, it's been a very intense, emotional night for the team. Thanks, man. Everyone, I think, just needs a minute to reset, so, we're gonna call it quits tonight. I got a lotta ideas on what to research and so I think we'll get some rest and hit it hard tomorrow. Look at this. See? -Oh, thanks. -Those are mine. I'm just kidding. [ Laughter ] [ Suspenseful chords [ Suspenseful music plays ] I keep pacing around the room and I can't help but think that, that, you know, last night, we rushed right into this. This is Daryl's friend. We rushed right into it. We heard what he had to say. No one wanted to help me. No one wanted to talk about it. If anything, this was "the nuthouse." This is where some of the most mentally ill patients would've been kept. We stopped after over roughly 220 confirmed deaths here. -Wow. But I can't help but think that we made a lot of assumptions. I mean, we, when you think about it, we don't have any proof that anybody was ever mistreated there. Tell me who's hurtin' you. Having the right information when you go into an investigation is paramount. It's absolutely terrible to hurt women. If we don't have the right information, it makes our job ten times harder to get to the truth. Oof! My god, dude. If I tell you that the entities are evil, you may run in there and yell at them and punish them for what they've done and ultimately frighten them, when they may not have done anything wrong. I have to go. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] So it's key for people who enter a location to have the proper information, for their own safety and for the spirits' well-being as well. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] On that note, Mustafa is going to meet with a local historian, to see if he can learn more about the history of the seminary. So, we're here because we're taking a look at the Madison Seminary and how do people view it? Like what's their opinion of it? What's their sentiment towards it? I think most of them remember that building as the Ohio cottage with the Women's Relief Corps and that was based on providing support and services for widows, Army nurses, and mothers of veterans who served in the Civil War and the Spanish-American War and, then, eventually, it did become home for the criminally insane and, again, they tried to help them. So allegedly, you know, the place has been referred to locally as "the nuthouse." I don't know if you've ever come across that or heard that. No. I have never heard any citizen in this town call it "the nuthouse," at least not to me. A number that we even heard about the property is that there were some 220 documented deaths. The Women's Relief Corps, which began in 1889, went all the way through 1962, so it's very likely that you could easily have, in that amount of time, 200 died in that facility. There's been a lot of confirmed deaths on the property, which makes sense because this was a home that helped families of veterans and it was a nursing home, essentially, at one point. It was caring for people who needed a little bit of extra help. Yeah. So, So there's no documentation of anything, any type of like mistreatment of -- No. I'm glad to say that, as far as I know, there's been no documentation. No, that's wonderful to hear. I know that there's like a lot of paranormal groups and a lotta people come over here who are trying to, seems almost like they're trying to push a narrative that there were women that were mistreated here, however, Dianne's been a resident here for 43 years and she's never heard this place spoken of in a negative light. Thank you so much. -Thank you. -This is super enlightening. -Thank you. -Be well. Bye. -Bye, now. It's always been looked at as a place that helped families, helped the families of veterans, and was basically a valued building in this community. [ Crickets chirping ] [ Voice exhales ] We have no hard facts saying that anybody was ever mistreated here. -Mm-hmm. -I think, tonight, we go in there just even keel. Let's not assume anybody was mistreated here, unless something comes to the surface otherwise, and let's remember that Adam wants to know why have things changed. So let's also try to focus on what the entities might think of him or what's being done here, so we can hopefully give him an answer. I think we need to get a team in the asylum. I say Daryl and Kristen up there. Kristen: Yeah. -And Brian and Richel, you guys can have the whole Civil War side. -Yeah. -Sounds awesome. -Good? Alright, everyone. -Yep. Let's do this, huh? [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] [ Growling ] So, right now, we're in the asylum section of the seminary, and this is where they get a lot of EVPs and where Brian and Richel had quite a few experiences last night. Let's introduce ourselves real quick. Yeah. Sorry. Our apologies. We should've made ourselves known right when we walked in. Yes. My name is Daryl. This is Kristen. Kristen and I are trying to be careful and not come off like we're aggressive or threatening. We just wanna let the entities know we're here to help. What do you think about this building? What do you think about Adam owning it? Does that make you happy or sad? It's goin' off. Is that you, setting the lights off? Here, I'll back away from ya. I don't wanna scare ya. Can you do that again, please? You don't have to be afraid of us. We're not gonna hurt you. We're only here to talk. Adam brings a lot of his friends here. Do you agree with what they do here when they come here? I would feel pretty special, if so many people wanted to speak with me, but maybe you don't feel the same way. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] What was that? Daryl: Did you see it just now? -No. That ball of light just shot across the ceiling when you said that was goin' off. It's crazy 'cause I've seen that up here before, about a year ago. It was over there, though, and I just saw it, just now, shoot across the ceiling when you said that was going off. Was that you? Alright. We've got Brian and Richel, Civil War building. It is 12:22. So, the goal for tonight is to make contact without antagonizin' any of the entities. We just don't wanna have the same negative experience as we did last night. We did not come here to bother you or harm you. We just wanna know who you possibly are and, overall, I wanna know how you feel about Adam and what he's done with the place. I'm hearin' voices from somewhere. I'll look out that window. There's nobody out here, Richel. Okay. Why don't we get off this floor? [ Clicking ] [sigh] Alright. Where do I wanna put this mic? Hold onto this here. You got it, sir. So, what we have here is a Ambisonic microphone. It's used a lot in VR. It's gonna give us a 360-degree listening capability. This asylum area is really well-known for disembodied voices, so, this is a perfect situation for a device of this nature. [ Suspenseful music climbs ] [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] You know, the three of us could be seen as a threat. If we kinda Spread out. spread out a little bit, we'll cover more ground -Sure. -and maybe be less of a threat. This is Brandon, Grant, and Mustafa in the asylum. This is the Ambisonic microphone, 2:17 am. My name is Grant. I've worked in facilities like this. I've helped many, many people with issues like your own. If there's a problem, [ Eerie sting plays ] you can share it with us and we'll make sure that Adam changes it. I heard a lot about this place, that a lot of people were helped here. Did you feel happy in this place? Did anyone or anything make you sad here? A lot of people come through this space and you don't have to talk to any of them. You don't have to do anything they say. We'd love it if you talked to us, though. It's just a bathroom. Down here feels completely different than it did in the asylum last night. Like I'm calm down here. Isn't this the cutest little plunger you've ever seen? Brian: So, tonight's been pretty quiet. We're trying to be respectful. We're not doin' anything to provoke or anything like that. I don't feel any creepy vibes. Like I'm fine down here. [ Beep ] Grant: Alright, guys. I think we've done all we can here. Let's wrap it up. [ Static crackles ] [ Crickets chirping ] [ Rock plays ] It's not often we have an investigation with such drastically different results from night 1 to night 2 and it's just a reminder of how complex and fragile our influences can be on other people, be they alive or dead, which only underscores the importance of being thoughtful and disciplined in our approach to investigation. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] [ Eerie music climbs ] -I can here walking behind you. -Lookit. Lookit. Lookit, guys. Do you feel like there's a change? That wasn't your stomach? [ Rock outro plays ] I'm sitting here going over the audio from night 2 in the asylum. Did you feel happy in this place? Did you feel happy in this place? [ Laughter ] It's unbelievably clear. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] -Alright. Whaddya got? -Alright. So, I have somethin' pretty interesting that I wanna show you, that I can't explain, that was captured on the thermal. -Oh. Alright. -Here we go. [ Suspenseful music climbs ] [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] so, we scrambled everybody together and made sure we came in and did our best for you. So, I think we may have found some interesting things about why this place may have felt like it turned negative over the past few months. We sent in a couple teams and they had some pretty wild experiences. The first team, Brian and Richel, they were up in the asylum area. [ Beeping ] I don't feel good in this room. Brian: You okay? No. [ sobs ] Richel was starting to feel a little sick and nauseous, like something outside of herself. So, we're startin' to understand where you're at, here, with the discomfort, and we're startin' to see this. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] If there's somethin' that you're wantin' to say to Richel, you could say it to me, too. And, of course, Brian started taking offense to that, like, "Hey, come on. Don't do that to her. Do it to me." Can you tell me who's hurtin' you? And I think the thought of all the stuff that may have gone on here started to hit him... [ Exhales forcefully ] ...and he kinda got off his game. 'Cause we came in. We heard the stories of how people were mistreated here and our heads were filled with that. So, we had another team, Brandon and Mustafa, in the other building, where you had reports of a 7'0" figure. Now, on evidence review, we found something on our thermal imaging camera that is fascinating to us. This is Brandon and Mustafa in the Civil War side of the building. Now, what we're lookin' at is this is the fire escape and there's a door here. Now, something appears in the window. Keep an eye on that window. [ Suspenseful music climbs ] See that? Now watch off to the right. So, our investigators are on the ground, so, they should not appear in the reflection at all. So this wasn't a 7'0" tall figure, but there's no question there's some activity here. Brian: I'm hearin' voices from somewhere. This is also the same place where Brian heard voices the following night. So, you get a sense of why this is anomalous to us. 100 percent. I absolutely understand, yeah. So, night 1, we had a lot of stuff and it was uncomfortable. We came in. We had almost a prejudice against what happened here. Then, the morning of day 2, I woke up thinking, "We just don't have any concrete proof that anything bad ever happened to anybody here," and Mustafa was able to get into the historical society with ease and what they were telling us was that this building did a lot of good. It was a valuable part of the community. So, going in night 2, with this kind of information, we approached it differently and we had a very different experience, much more calm, probably what you had when you originally came in here. [ Suspenseful chord strikes ] So, on the second night, I was up in the asylum with Brandon and Mustafa and we were sitting in the large room, trying to reach out to the entities, and, when we reviewed that audio, we caught a voice responding to a very important question asked by Mustafa, so we'll play that for you. Mustafa: Did you feel happy in this place? [ Static crackling ] Yep. Put this on, and you'll feel it coming from the -- -Mm-hmm. -from the back left. Did you feel happy in this place? [ Static crackling ] My best guess, it sounds like a drug out, "Yeah." -That's exactly -- -Is that what it is? Okay. I was trying to listen. Yeah, which, to me, that is probably the most important thing we've captured here. -Mm-hmm. -You know, "Do you like living here?" "Yeah." Both: Mm-hmm. So, it's a daunting task, to come in and save a building, and I feel like you've been here for three years and I feel like you might be getting at the point where the honeymoon phase has worn off and you're kind of maybe thinkin', "Oh, maybe this is overwhelming." Like you said to us several times, "This has to work. This has to work." So I get it. There's a synergy here. In order for this building to stay standing, people need to want to come and investigate the paranormal, but, the history of the place that you were going on, we came in with that same mentality and, oh, yeah, we got experiences. We got activity. But at what cost? And we know, with energy, what you project is oftentimes what you attract. I was gonna say that, too. -Yes. -'Cause your mentality has changed from night 1 to night 2. What I'm saying is that, if we come in here with the wrong mentality, we're not helping the entity. We're not furthering this process and that's starting to fight back and that's probably why you're feeling this way, why your team is feeling a little off, and I think, if you change that mentality, they'll fall in love with this place again. -Mm-hmm. -So I think the goal for you would be: Let's find out the real history. Let's do it justice. Let's only operate on the truth. Let's not let our own fear get in the way of helping the people who may still be here. We need their cooperation for this building to survive, so let's do everything we can to give them the benefit of the doubt and make this work. [ Poignant tune plays ] They brought things to light that I didn't even know and I will use that information going forward and I absolutely think that, after this experience, we're gonna see this building change back to how it was when I first got it. I knew you'd get to the bottom of it and you literally did. And It settles a lotta things for me, honestly, so. As paranormal investigators, we're always learning and what I learned from this case was not necessarily something new, but something I already knew, and that's to remember to go into a case without bias... Please, stay in touch. -Yeah. -Let us know how things go. -Absolutely. -Alright? -Alright. Thank you. -Thank you, sir. ...and any evidence you collect will end up speaking for itself. -C'mere. -Oh, there we go, the bro hug again. -Thanks, man. -Thank you. The basis of the "Ghost Hunters" mission is to help people, be they living or dead, and, while we are here to help and educate the clients, we also have a responsibility to listen to and respect the entities we have an interaction with. On that note, we're ready for the next case. -- Captions by VITAC -- www.vitac.com Captions paid for by Pilgrim Media Group, LLC
