Get On Your Mission | Robert Madu | Trinity Church

[Music] [Applause] are you ready for God's Word today I hope you feel like hearing it like I feel like preaching it I want to really continue in the same vein of thought that we've been in our pastors been in we've been in a series called what procede procede that man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God that God's Word is our directive and this is missions month as well and I want to I want to preach a message that I have to preach to myself at least three times a year and it's something that will stop you from proceeding so I figured if I need it you need it so would you stand with me to honor the reading of God's Word I want to look at two passages of Scripture today I look at Hebrews chapter 12 verses 1 and 2 and then first samuel 18 verses 5 through 9 while you're looking forward to getting ready to look on the screen how many actually never heard me preach before kasi you have you never heard me preach before quite a few of you have to warn you i am a hollaback preacher okay I can't say this enough over the next six and a half hours that we have it is illegal for you to just kind of sit there like you're in a library and just go be a spectator no you ought to be a participator if anything I'm saying is resonating with you you could say a man you could say preach that you could grunt even if what I'm saying is not good say Amen anyway it'll make me think is good and it'll get better okay so make sure you're verbally involved today Hebrews chapter 12 we started verses number 1 and go down to 2 when you're ready to read say yeah and it declares therefore since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith let us strip off every weight that slows us down especially the sin that so easily trips us up and let us run with endurance the race God has set before us truly family what an awesome thought to consider that God has set a race a mission how many know you are a missionary there is a race that's been said before each and every one of us and we have to run that race how do we do it the writer of Hebrews tells us we do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus the champion who initiates and perfects our faith can you say Amen and then first samuel 18 verses 5 to 9 I'm reading from Eugene Peterson's message translation and it says whatever Saul gave David to do he did it and did it well so well that Saul put him in charge of his military operations everybody both the people in general and saw servants approved of and admired David's leadership as they return home after David had killed the Philistine the women poured out of all of the villages of Israel singing and dancing welcoming King saw with tambourines festive songs and lutes I'm not really sure what a lute is but I'm assuming it's like a flute without the end and profound I know it's and playful frolic and playful frolic that made me laugh when I read that because how many know you know it's a party when people are actually taking the time to frolic okay and playful frolic the women sang and listen to what they saying Saul kills by the thousand David by the ten thousand oh this maid saw angry very angry he took it as a personal insult he said huh they credit David with ten thousands but me with only thousands before you know it they'll be giving him the kingdom and from that moment on Saul kept his eye on David I don't want to preach before priests oh don't count this as my free cinta but I'm wondering doing this missions month if we could look at these two passages of Scripture in parallel because here we have the writer of Hebrews who says hey there's a race that's a mission that's been said before each and every one of us and we run it by keeping our eyes on who Jesus but here we have saw because of this song that these ladies started singing this song something in this song got him off of his mission and got his eyes fixed on David and it was this song of comparison come you know comparison is the kryptonite to you fulfilling your mission and that's what I want to talk about today in fact I've titled this message get on your mission get on your mission would you look at your neighbor whichever one you like the best last time you have to look at him and just say neighbor come on do not be afraid to talk to your neighbor in church come on look at it what attitude say neighbor get on your mission come on find another neighbor I want you to say it like you're a lieutenant or colonel in the Army and say other neighbor get on your mission give God some praise if you know he's gonna speak to you today come on this point let's pray real quick and then you can step out or if you're already down just stay down let's pray father thank you for your word thank you for your presence speak to us today god I'm asking for lives to be transformed for us to leave different than the way that we came and I'm asking for people to show up to plunge party tonight and to be changed I'm asking Lord because you care about every detail I'm asking for the Cowboys to defeat the Minnesota Vikings tonight in Jesus name everybody said you may be seated in the presence of the Lord don't look at me like that I pray for everything every single thing get on your mission quick little sermonic survey how many would say just by a showing of hands that you like to work out you enjoy exercise can I see your hand if you like to work out well come on that's quite a few hands come on this is the healthy crowd right here at the first circuit you can put it down how many would say about showing of hands that you do not like to work out you don't enjoy exercise let me see your hand come on don't lie in church oh okay those of you those of you who lifted up your hands the first time the first time saying that you like to workout that you actually enjoy exercise you're officially dismissed from this surface okay no for real you can leave as a matter of fact run home okay cuz I've now found some camaraderie and some commonality with the second group of people y'all are my people okay I will lift up both hands both feet tell the truth and shame the devil okay I do not like to work out there is absolutely nothing in me that finds enjoyment or pleasure in going to the gym as a matter of fact I am theologically and physiologically persuaded that having to workout was as a result of the fall of a man oh yes I'm very serious you understand there were no gyms in Genesis there were no ellipticals in the Garden of Eden all right you cannot have Pilates and have paradise God in His infinite wisdom created us originally as perfectly perfect humans perfectly perfect come on that means Adam had biceps he had triceps and he didn't have a 1 pack he had a 6-pack ladies ladies Eve had 0% body fat some rely on Robert what shell scripture put ahead I'll give you Scripture I'll give you scripture the Bible says the Bible says that they were both naked and unashamed come on somebody you only walk around naked if you got it going on I'm just saying I'm just saying it's not it's not until they took of the forbidden fruit that's sin and calories entered into the world so I don't like to work out I'd like to work out but I do work out I do work out and the reason I do what I hate is because what I love which is to eat okay I love to eat I'm a much better eater than I am a faster okay don't hit on me that's my spiritual gift and so whenever I go to the gym I actually enjoy lifting weights I really do I like to lift weights there's something manly about putting on Old Spice and lifting iron okay I like to live but how many no lifting does not really burn the calories you have to do cardio which means you have to engage in an evil three-letter word called run Oh Church this is my issue okay I hate to run I despise running okay I cannot articulate to you how much I hate to run I hate that run rhymes with fun because there's nothing fun to me to me about running okay whenever I do run I can miss my mind I have asthma just so I can stop okay so me to get on a treadmill is a big deal and I gotta have a lot of motivation I gotta have a Nike just do it t-shirt on I gotta have motivational music playing I got the eye of the tiger I did all that just to get on the treadmill and once I get on the treadmill I'll start at a good glacial pace and I'll be going I'm like oh this is easy it's just awesome I've been running for like feels like 30 minutes can I look at the screen it's like three minutes I'm not okay I can you do this about to die I've developed this move and I'm letting out my secrets today I'll develop this move as a mechanism for motivation to keep running on the treadmill true story is I'm running on the treadmill just wanting to quit and throw on the towel I will first slowly look to the right and then I will look to the left and I would just peruse the aisle of other people who are running they're treadmills and what I am doing is I'm looking for somebody anybody a much older than me body and once I found that random person I will lock my eye in on that person and I will say something to them not out loud but in my mind real loud I will say to them you don't want done now let me explain what just happened when I said you don't know when I said that unbeknownst of that person we just enter into a race oh yeah act like I'm the only one that does this okay when I said that this workout just got real okay as soon as I made that declaration the entire gymnasium has now been transformed to the 2019 Olympics and the first person to get off the treadmill is going home with the silver and the one that stays on the longest is going home with the gold and i'ma get the gold cuz I'm a child of God plus I'm American all we do is win win win no matter what come on I get a witness up in here and it really helps me it really helps when the person is right next to me because then I can see their screen and see exactly how fast they're going so it's even you know I'm saying so if they're on level six I'm on level six point one and if they speed up I'm gonna speed up if they're gonna incline I'm gonna go on the incline if they stop and take a break I'm gonna stop and take a break I'm gonna keep running when I stop and take a break stop and get off the treadmill I will speed mine up to the fastest level cuz you got to sprint to the finish line then I'll press stop jump off grab my tail and shout I've got the golden rejoice in my sweet victory wish I was lying but I'm being real with y'all in the first surface as a matter of fact that BT got a couple of weeks ago in the gym at a hotel beat him bad too and I saw him in the lobby afterwards and I said hey man how are you he said I'm good how are you said I'm great fact I'm golden loser it was because it's it's funny it's comical when you talk about comparing yourself to other people in the gym comparing yourself to other people when you're doing exercise but how many know it is not so funny when you talk about comparing yourself to other people in life ladies and gentlemen brothers and sisters I'm afraid this message mandates is that you introspectively ask the critical question who are you racing who are you racing I'm just wondering who in your life have you perhaps consciously or subconsciously set your eye on and you are running your race according to their pace instead of doing the thing that God has called you to do instead of chasing after the purpose the assignment the mission and the destiny that God has placed on your life I just came to warn you today that the comparison game who is a dangerous game to play I don't know whether you know this or not we're running on a treadmill which is another reason why I hate running have you noticed on the treadmill you're doing a whole lot of moving a whole lot of breathing a whole lot of sweat but you ain't going anywhere you're in the exact same position the entire time what a beautiful metaphor for comparing yourself to other people because whenever you compare yourself to somebody else all you end up doing is exerting a lot of psychological emotional and spiritual energy trying to keep up and compete with somebody you were never called to created to be and at the end of all of it you realize I'm in the exact same position I was when I first got started who I'm afraid when it comes to this topic I have more message than I have minutes cuz I'm actually just exercising something a great mentor in my life told me that I'll never forget he said Robert whenever you preach just preach from your weakness because you'll never lack for material dupré that's good I am preaching from my weakness today because I found in my own life in my own life as I'm running the race God has set before me I have this inner proclivity and tendency to start staring at the people in the lanes beside me Henry Church I am convinced that comparison comparison is the number one destroyer of destiny I am convinced that the enemy's number one weapon of mass distraction and mass destruction is to get you to compare yourself to somebody else it's his number one weapon because after all that's what got him kicked out of heaven Satan Lucifer you know used to be on the praise and worship team of heaven it all started with comparison he was created originally to be a conduit to be an expression of God's glory but he starts comparing himself to God and said I will exalt my throne above the Most High and that's what got him immediately fired and dismissed and now his job is to kill steal and destroy from you and I and that is exactly what comparison will do it will kill your joy it will steal your peace it will suffocate your sanity comparison is the thief of joy comparison is like cancer to contentment you cannot be content when you are comparing yourself to somebody else I love the Apostle Paul you know the artist formerly known as Saul it's funny to me never mind yeah he wrote 2/3 of the New Testament and I loved he was the original missionary and I loved when he starts bringing order and structure of different churches he feels the need to bring up this issue of comparison look what he says to the church in Galatians I want you to see this I love this verse Galatians chapter 6 this is Paul talking he says make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given then sink yourself into that don't be impressed with yourself don't compare yourself with others each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life who that is Campbell's Soup you know I loved when he talked to the Church of Corinth because he says this is second Corinthians chapter 10 verse 12 Paul says this he says for we dare not we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves but they measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves among themselves are not wise Paul says you are stupid you bought foolish you are cray-cray if you are playing the silly comparison game do you know what comparison is not wise hear my heart today because comparison will consistently cloud the call of God on your life as a matter of fact comparison will consistently cloud the clarity of God's call on your life I mean if you won't be confused about your call or your mission then just start comparing yourself to other people's call and other people's mission come on let's just first of all steps today that there has been a call and a mission that has been placed on your life oh come on see I hope you know that in here today you do know that Jesus did not die on a cross get up from the grave just so we could have cute church services you see that listen to an inspirational message and then sing songs off of screen like it's Christian karaoke and do absolutely nothing with your life you do know there is a call on your life there is a mission on your life there is a divine directive on your life there is a mandate on your life come on you are not here by accident you're actually here by God's divine providence because there's something that he had a mind for you to do before he ever created you come on if you got a pulse that post is proof positive that God is not through with you yet there's still something you gotta do because you got a call on your life oh I feel like preaching in here would you just say they say I'm called oh come on Santa wake up your neighbors say I'm called there was a call on your life a mission on your life missionaries are not just people that we send now you are a missionary there is they call on your life and not a random call but a call that is so unique I'll call this so specific a call to the so idiosyncratic that only you can do the theme that God has put you on this earth to do come on your mama came to it your cousin came to it your sister came to it your brother came to it only you can do the mission that God has uniquely graced and called you to do not only that I love this God has actually already given you everything you need to accomplish your call that shouting stuff right there come on think about that that everything I need everything I need to do what God has called me to do it's already in me everything you need to do what God has called you to do it is already in you if you don't have something that means God in His grace and his sovereignty knew you didn't need that to do what he's called you to do come on that means y'all do you have to be jealous of anybody you don't have to have hashtag hate on anybody in your life if you don't have something God knew you didn't need it for your mission in your call you know what that means let me break it down if you're supposed to be taller guess what he woulda made you taller if you were supposed to be faster he would have made you faster if you were supposed to sing he would have given you a voice if you were supposed to be on Dancing with the Stars he would have given you some more rhythm hello and he was supposed to be black he would have made you black if you're supposed to be white he would have made you why if you're supposed to be Latino buenos dias he would have made you Latino you got everything you need on the inside of you please stop complaining to the master and just stop thanking him that your masterpiece feel like preaching in here today you [Music] carefully created and meticulously made by a God who is obsessed with you you are a masterpiece with a mission oh I feel like preaching but let me calm down and interrupt this regular scheduled sermon so you can engage in a verbal exercise what'd you just say they say I am a masterpiece I have a mission I'll say it like you had your coffee today say I am a masterpiece I have a mission one more time in the amplified version say I'm a masterpiece I have a mission I'm telling you if that got in your heart and not just in your head that will change the way you wake up in the morning that will change the way you go to work that will change the way you walk in a room to know that you are a masterpiece created by the greatest artist who is God and that you have a mission preach Robert I'm trying to and I say you're a masterpiece and you have a mission that does not feel good phraseology that's not cute self-help Talk that's not preacher height that's just God's Word you don't believe me Ephesians chapter 2 first number 10 look at what it says it says for we are God's masterpiece he created us anew in Christ Jesus watches so we can what just come to church and judge sermons and judge the worship team just come to church and sit on my blessed assurance no he said so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago that means God is a strategic God he's already marked out a path a mission a lane for me to run in and all I have to do I love the simplicity of this all I got to do is stay in my lane keep my eyes on Jesus all I have to do to fulfill my mission is stay in my lane and keep my eyes on Jesus I just made faith in Christianity so simple all you got to do is stay in your lane and keep your eyes on Jesus that's actually my entire message for the day the rest is just fluff I came all the way to tritter to tell you two things stay in your lane and keep your eyes on Jesus you're your mission your lane what is also thought to consider that God and His grace would take the time to give me my own life I gotta lay you got a lane and it's simplistic as that sounds some of y'all want deeper things or the Word of God but not begin to find out that's the most difficult thing for people to do the most to stay in your lane and keep your eyes on Jesus that is difficult for people to do so let just think practically how many of you ever been stuck in traffic okay it's funny in a phenomenon whenever you are stuck in traffic you always always feel like the lanes besides you are the ones that are always lost and I'm shipping it to you I don't you look almost wrecked your car trying to get is somebody else's Lane and you would have been better off just stay in your lane Oh God told me to tell somebody do not wreck your life and your purpose trying to get in somebody else's Lane you're let I have a lane you gotta lay I love that God gave me a leg you don't know that a lane is comprised of two lines right two lines make a line it's one line here line here sound effects always make preaching better okay it's one line here you have to stay within the parameters of the two lines two lines make a lane interestingly enough as it relates to mission every single one of us we have two destinies there is a duality to your destiny one destiny is universal this universal destiny for every believer and that destiny is this to become more and more like Jesus every single day come on that is the universal destiny of every believer to become more and more like Jesus so if you're sitting in this room today go and do what am I supposed to do with my life I just told you become more and more like Jesus every single day how many know our communities and our world would change if we could just think like Jesus love like Jesus post on Facebook and Instagram like Jesus go to your job like Jesus go to your family reunion like Jesus to talk like Jesus parent like Jesus that is a universal destiny for every believer but you do have another destiny and it is unique and that is you were to become unlike anybody God has ever created because when God made you he broke the mold everybody else has already taken you may as well just beat you do you boo boo just wake up this is how I'm trying to run my race this is how I'm trying to fulfill my mission every morning I wake up I'm trying to be more and more like Jesus and unlike anybody God has ever created more and more like Jesus and unlike anybody God has ever created more and more like him and less and less like them when I run my race like that my eyes are fixed on him he gives me the fortitude he gives me the strength he gives me the velocity to complete my mission is this helping anybody in here today can I go deeper this is why missions mods cuz I want you to change your paradigm and perspective on missions missions month is for all of us because you have a mission this is why once you put your faith in Jesus you can never say you're just anything like that binocular has to go out the window you cannot make statements like well I'm just a school teacher so you're not just a school teacher you're actually God's representative in the classroom so the classroom can see what does Jesus look like when Jesus teaches a class and that's your mission that's your lane I'm gonna stay right here even though y'all not help it be preached today I'm just a lawyer you are not just a lawyer you are God's representative in the law field so the law field can see what does Jesus look like when Jesus takes your case that is your lane that is your mission I will keep going you are not just a construction worker you're about representative in the construction industry so the construction industry can see what does Jesus look like when Jesus built you a house I'm just the hairstylist girl you are not just a hairstylist you are God's representative in that hair salon so the hair salon can see what does Jesus look like when he puts weave or extensions your challenge of life I found the challenge of life is to stay in your lane focus on your mission with your eyes on him because the day the day you start running your race like this the day you start trying to fulfill your mission like this let me just preface out of you there is a crash in your future and you will not proceed cela no wonder no wonder SAW had such a huge crash comparision called from the shift all of his focus all of his energy on David make no doubt about it there was a season in Saul's life he was on mission and he was in his Lane I don't get it twisted Saul was the first king of Israel he was anointed and appointed by God to be king I love when the Bible talks about Saul because the Bible uses very picturesque language it says this all looked like a king he says that he stood head and shoulders above any other person in fact the Bible says the Bible says he was a good-looking come on somebody when the Bible says you can look at him okay nobody tell you ugly okay nobody you're just telling read the word you already know yourself he is for you he looked like a king he talked like a king and yet King swagging God just blessed him God blessed him to be the king but I found out even in my own life you got to be real careful with the blessing of God because if the brightness of the blessing ever blinds you to the blesser it's no longer a blessing it's become a curse and the brightness of the blessing blinded Saul to the blesser so much so he was more concerned with being the king than he was with a worshipping the king of kings he was more concerned keeping his position than he was chasing after God's presence so God had to remove the kingship away from him but there was this young dude out on the outskirts of Jerusalem and all he cared about was being God's presence he didn't care about a title he didn't care about position you care about likes or retweets all he cared about was being in God's presence even after his own family his own family alienated him and ostracized him and say man just go wash the stanky sheep this dude is out there with the spikey sheep playing his heart just worshiping God until one day his dad says I'm a text message and says hey can you go to the battlefield and bring your brothers a ham and cheese sandwich and when he gets to the battlefield with the ham and cheese sandwiches he sees a giant who is big enough to eat hey and dumb enough to enjoy it and he says wait a minute who is this uncircumcised Philistine who I love David I love David cuz that's Christian cussing right there knock out mama said knock you out you don't get knocked out today where is my slingshot well you read this before Lisa's that slingshot hits Goliath in the forehead the life comes crashing to that ground and as soon as Goliath hit the ground I love it David rose up it was a destiny moment you do know that all moments in your life are not created equal but there are some destiny moments where everything shifts where the trajectory of your life will never be the same I can't can I tell somebody in here today you do know that promotion from God comes quick in a moment God can have your name and somebody else's ear and a moment you could be on a platform that you never expected that's why you ain't got time to be petty you ain't got time to worry about what they put on your Facebook wall help me you know you gotta get yourself ready put the moment that God could just turn to stay and say this is your season this is your time this is the thing that you've been praying for guess what it's here right now in a moment God can shift something who am i preaching to today somebody's been getting ready for something that you're bout to step into everybody new David's name he's now gone viral who they talking about David David he's our man if he can't do it nobody can kids re watching the fight on YouTube tell my mom I gotta get those David sneakers they dropped next week you know they're gonna be sold out I mean this is a big moment for David he's finally arrived he's on the cover of every Wheaties box with the slingshot he's doing interviews on ABC NBC CNN TV hijk LMNOP the whole house love it wants to talk to David now when he defeated Goliath he became a rock star literally right okay I'm just trying to keep you awake so big majority cut off his head the wicked witch is dead the game is over the Buzzard is sounded and the fat lady is finally son problem is solved in like what the fat lady was singing when the fat lady just a group of ladies and here's their song here's the song that changed Saul's life that messed up his mission this is the song Saul has killed his thousands David his tens of thousands and when saw heard on Spotify he went from accomplishing his mission like this now fixing his eyes on David therefore to me Saul is a case study of the downward spiral of what comparison will always do to your life because comparison is always the beginning of the end okay all of that was my introduction I laughing I'm being honest um cuz I want us to even look at critically what saw sand Casal speech teaches us how comparison will creep into your heart and abort your mission notice what he says he says ah you credit David with tens of thousands but me with only thousands ha ha ha ha no no y'all are gonna credit David with tens of thousands but me with all the thousands you hear it comparison will always start with this phrase but me he but me he but me Saul can't separate David's life from his life he can't separate David success from his success he immediately connects what's going on with David back to him he but me had never met a but me believer these are people that see everything in life through the lens of but me I call them button me believers because no matter what's going on with somebody else they will find a way to connect it back to them cuz they're always thinking about them which by the way is the quickest way to get off of your mission when your narcissistic egocentric individualistic self see saturated believer and you only can me me me me but me sought the focus of his life was on him he is a but me believer come on you English majors are acutely aware of the fact that but is a conjunction conjunction junction somebody watch Schoolhouse Rock come on hooking up phrases and clauses and making them sound right that's what some people do alive no matter what's going on with somebody else they will find a way to connect to me but me what about me but me they acknowledge to me I came from Oklahoma to didn't do a video for me you know you're getting off your mission when the focus of your life is on you because he said the only way to run this race and complete your mission is which I so fixed on Jesus but when your eyes are on you Batman just me that's the quickest way to get off of your mission and begin the comparison came in that can we go deeper in the distance first service-type I don't even give second service this because what not first read this text to be honest with you I empathize with Saul I really did you got to ask yourself who started the comparison who started it that's what my mom used to say we used to fight who started it it was not saw it wasn't saw it one like Saul came in out of the blue at all David he's killed his tens of thousands little on me I've only kill Martha no saw it wasn't even David come on we can understand if Saul would feel some type of way if David came in braggadocious lisanne ha ha ha so guess what started from the bottom I'm coming right there about to take your crown we could understand that no this was an external voice they placed the weight of comparison on him if I didn't have to already fight the inner voice then wants to compare myself to other people what do you do when somebody else has placed the weight of comparison on you oh yeah I don't want to say Amen right sometimes parents are the worst culprits why can't you be more like your sister she always keeps her room clean and you walked by your sister's room and there she is sitting her bed that's been perfectly made you're like I hate you it's frustrating when somebody compares you to somebody where the last boss that we had in this position the last is frustrate come on some of you ladies up in here I hate to bring it up is I know Thanksgiving is coming back up but some of you have been there you spent all last Thanksgiving slaving in that kitchen I mean slaving cooking that dress head and for your husband to eat the dressing and have the nerve and the audacity and the unmitigated gall to go you know my mama don't make dress him I'm just saying so let's give Saul just a moment if we can to be human I said that's mr. they did a song to this this is a Broadway production almost empathize with saw fully because I said that's messed up I can't believe they compared Saul's number that Davis never but then I started studying and I did the etymological exploratory on this biblical passage just the way I said broke the bank down I realize that all surface level it looks like the ladies are comparing Saul's number to Davis number but that is not what they're doing at all on surface level it does right because they say Saul you've killed your oh hello Saul you Kilcher and David his so you think they're comparing Saul's number to David's number right and so did I cuz I am better in English than I am in Hebrew but if you study Hebrew writing and you understand parallelism they were almost always whenever you would see a verse like this they would almost always amplify the second number mentioned not necessarily because of its numerical value but more so to intensify the totality of what was being said simply for literary impact let me break it out like this because I lost some of you um we do the same thing today we do the same thing today I could say hey man don't ask me for money ask my dad for money he's got hundreds and thousands of dollars I would not say he's got hundreds and since I said he's got hundreds and I amplified the second number mention I don't even give you an amount I'm using that as an idiom for literary impact so that you could know the weight of his wealth that is exactly what the ladies are doing here they're not even comparing Saul's number to Dave it's number do you know what the ladies are really just saying in the original language that's all they say Saul just killed a bunch and Davis killed a bunch we just glad they all dead that's why kids all see that because the focus of his life is on him and when the focus of your life is on you hear me you'll get offended when you shouldn't get offended you get upset about stuff that's not even about you I saw your post the other day I know that was about me no boo boo you're just always thinking about you that's why you thought well it's about you focus so if your life is on you you'll get off of your mission what's some Blue's Clues did your a but me believer as they play softly behind me to make this sound spiritual I want to give you some one if you got a hard time celebrating the successes of other people you might be a button me believer I'll try if for you to compliment or commend somebody else somehow takes something from you you might be above me believer if there is anybody in your life anybody in your life that's secretly you would find joy or happiness in their failure that's the person you race it in you're a but may believe her and I'm only preaching this to you cuz I had to preach it to me cuz it's so easy in this day and age to become a button B believer always so easy especially in this culture of social media Oh social media so we get that tomorrow because you got so many devices where you can see what everybody has what everybody's doing with a click of a button you are inundated but everybody else's life and if you're not careful it will make you start to hate yours any crazy how awareness accelerates discontentment can you imagine can you imagine how happy you would be if you just didn't know but you got notifications on your smart device that's making you act stupid come on once you're so happy and so content with your holiday vacation you why won't you like oh it's a good holiday vacation kids we going to Paris Texas what you're so excited what's so happy why don't you look content until you got on Facebook and so when your friends going to Paris France put a Paris in Texas anyway I want to be in France so easy I'm not hating on Instagram I'm not hating on Facebook I'm not hating on Twitter or social media I think it's awesome I'll be on it after the service how else will I know if you like the sermon I just wonder what is creating and it crazy the next week next week Instagram will run a test in the US removing likes from people's pages to where other people won't see your likes when all you can see it because they're connecting depression anxiety teenage suicide to this comparison game of your picture got 50 likes mine got a hundred wonder what this culture is creating I wonder if the mirrors excuse me I wonder if the screens on our phones have now become mirrors I wish we constantly check for reflection to see if we're measuring up to somebody else like a seen stolen from snow lion we all silently echo the words of the Wicked Witch who by the way you can check the mirror every day every day just to see mirror mirror on the wall who's the fairest of them all only today it's a mirror mirror on Facebook tell me how my life should look we're a mirror on Instagram tell me who I really am we keep jacket who do you keep looking at to see if you're okay [Music] interestingly enough the book of James calls the Word of God a mirror I wonder if we spend more time in this word if we'd be content enough to say I'm happy in my lane thank God for this Bishop I thank God for what you've given me God my eyes are RT hue so I'm happy to do what you call me to do this is a life message for me I'll preach this today put me in the grave because this wasn't one of my biggest struggles and can I tell you in the last two minutes that I have how God made this real to me it's a landmark moment I'll never forget not-too-distant past I had this opportunity to preach at this conference in Sydney Australia at the time was my assignment to just preach to the youth and the young adults of this conference gonna be like some 6,000 young people there I remember being so excited to go to Australia it's like this is gonna be a good week I'm gonna preach Jesus and see some kangaroos this is gonna be a good week and in conjunction with the young people happen there's conference there's also I guess what you call the main stage part of the conference and for the main stage parts some 30,000 people gather in an arena in Sydney Australia from main stage and the people they have preacher main stage with people who are really struggling to get their ministries off the ground people like Bishop TD jakes and Rick Warren and Joyce Meyer enjoy hosting so this is gonna be awesome I said I'm gonna go to this conference and I'm gonna listen to these great men and women of God preached I get to preach to the youth young adults but little did I know that just before going to that conference that just preach to the youth I received an invitation to preach main stage at that same conference the following year and I remember sitting in that arena I'll never forget it Taylor was there with me and they they showed the promotional video for the next year's conference and again it's all these big names huge big Abraham Lincoln was one of the speakers that they were had and they put my name on the screen and the pastor of the conference I'm said to qualify after my name came up at the dominie is like a it probably does not recognize one name on the list is robert madhu at the time hey he'll be one of the youngest preachers we've ever had preached mainstage I remember sitting there and I'm ever being so nervous and all of a sudden he says this he goes and you know what I think I'm gonna let y'all get a preview of his preaching on this stage in this arena this week now that would have been cool that would have been cool if I was not finding out in that moment with the other 30,000 people in the arena immediately I started sweating my heart went down into my foot I see the pasture after the service he goes mate did you hear my announcement I said yes I did he goes true story he goes I'm thinking tomorrow after Bishop TD jakes preaches [Music] you could get up and preach for like 10 minutes as a preview for next year because what do you think about that oh yeah went to the hotel room that night I'm telling you I cannot articulate to you the weight of intimidation that came over me I was in the fetal position in the hotel room crying so intimidated your voice goes to Mickey Mouse range tell us the best she is my CEO she's my chief encouragement officer so this she's like babe it's okay you can do it you can do a dog call my dad I think was like $10 a minute I called him in Australia said he says only he can say so you can't do this before the foundation of the earth Court do you agree there you can't do odd things to Christ you strategy you can't do this sport oh yeah what kind of a never back [Music] didn't get a lock on Nepal but he said he said everything else Saturday like so nervous so intimidated before I got on stage in that arena I had a conversation that I often to this day have it myself I had to pause for just a moment said wait a minute wait a minute who open this door go open the store God did who did they ask to speak me I can only be me so it got up there for 10 minutes I was man but when I got off the stage and I was studying this passage I felt like the Holy Spirit impressed upon me a critical question the Holy Spirit said Robert would you like to know the real reason while you fell on the ground in the fetal position with tears coming down your face thought to myself real know I know the real reason there was 30 thousand people in the arena husband said nah that's not the real reason in fact the real reason you felt that weight of intimidation it's because when you were listening to all those of the names preached you were not listening to the Word of God you were comparing how they run their race to the way I've called you to run your race you were comparing your bishop to their mission and that's why you felt that weight of intimidation so let that be the last time that tears come down your face because you are playing the silly comparison game and why don't you just rest in the fact that I have given you a grace to run your race a grace but you don't run your race I don't know who this is for today but I'm thinking I am the worst in this place get all your get on your mission not your neighbors not somebody else's get on your mission picture hustle and Jesus give you the straight in the grace to run your grace I'm gonna ask every heavy found our eyes closed father thank you today for your word I'll to thank you that yes we do send out missionaries all over the world but God all of us have a call Lord so have we been given freely we must freely give all of us have a sphere of influence all of us have a world that you've called us to give this bread of life that we are freely received God I pray for my brother I pray for my sister who the enemy has come into mind and make them think they don't have anything to offer and the only reason he's winning is because they're looking the wrong way well would you help us to do what that old song says to turn your eyes upon Jesus look full in his wonderful face thin and only they're the things of the world will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace heads about our clothes today but if you're in here and you'd be so honest to say you know what I've I've been playing the comparison game folks and all other people's laying other people's mission but today I need to just fix my eyes back on me yeah yes you would just lift up your hand as a sign to say this words for me for me yeah hands are going up all over this place anybody else lift it up and put it right back down thank you Jesus Panthers to bow tosses to close if you're here today and you've never taken that first step which is to say Jesus my life is he some of you just need to get in the race in the first place if you've been running the other way and even right now God is calling you here today say ma'am pastor Robert I need to give Jesus my life today you don't have to fix yourself you don't have to get yourself together and to be honest with you you can't that's why you need a Savior here today and you haven't surrendered your life to Jesus I'd love to include you on this closing prayer that you would just lift up here and it's sad to say today's Monday I'm coming home I'm giving in my life just lifted up and put it right back down these altars are gonna be open we have the transition to service which is right where you are can we all just fix our eyes on Jesus and maybe even just lift up our hands just as a sign of surrender to Him and I want us to pray this prayer as one big family but especially if you responded what you say this they do Jesus thank you so much for being faithful to accomplish your mission God thank you that I was your mission you love me enough to pay the price for my sin thank you that I was your joy I was the joy that you set before you to endure the cross and complete your mission some father today give me the strength and the grace from my mission forgive me for playing the comparison game I'll fix my eyes on you so that I can run my race so that I could get on my mission in Jesus name come on somebody say man and give God the best praise that you got well come on you can do better than that would you give Jesus praise like I said these altars they're gonna be open hope you'll come back to plunge party tonight and until that moment may the Lord bless you keep you make his face to shine upon you give you grace and peace now and forevermore god bless you church [Music]
