Daniel rodas [Applause] she's not just one of our most versatile actors she's a force of nature here to tell us about her latest role in the nation's favorite Call the Midwife it's always a pleasure to welcome Miriam hello everybody are we still so happy new year happy why not now Mira Mowgli's is this it there have you been banned from daytime television well I said [ __ ] old trap it's one of the worst things you can say this is yeah but they sent me a list of the things and you've memorized you on it was one I had never heard of I don't know if you had what was it it was Monta mu M ter yeah yeah I don't know where it originates from but I think it means an unattractive woman oh I don't know it was I think it can be I think I think it can be both yeah I've never heard well has anybody heard in the audience [Applause] revolving poll that what was the TV show it was called this morning organ you had a daytime television experience yeah I dropped a carrot on Sunday brunch and I said [ __ ] a euphemism dropped a carrot no idea but was it in catastrophe that your mother didn't like all the swearing no I think my mother was fine with the swearing in catastrophe I did an interview once and the journalist said that I use the c-word carrot watch yourself didn't enjoy that I just blame the journalist presumably you are familiar with Miriam's potty-mouthed because are you because I bought it but did you actually work together yeah but I don't know I've been told it was a swear jar involved on set but I can't remember that I don't you remember you swearing a lot of money I was probably careful when it was you but when you know with the other kids I didn't boss just talking backstage you've had what you call that funny little girl apparently it's 20 years since Harry Potter came out there since we started filming the first one and your balls have dropped since [Applause] just we kids thing yes it's interesting because professor sprout which you know you're in the second film on the last film yeah I should have been in all of them yes that was a grave oversight I'm holding you responsible anyway it was wonderful to be in the two that I was in and I'm very proud of it but you do get recognized as professor spam I do I mean I think I've changed since then but people do recognize me and funnily enough in Lithuania have you come just to see professor sprout other films called professors are after the gently never I was mobbed in Lithuania maybe because I was Jewish I don't know [Laughter] that's incredible IQ being marbled into vania you a professor sprout imagine being this I know what what was it like I mean it's weird and funny and I think I the best way to see it always was like weird and funny because it will you know and it Epson flows and sometimes it's in your life a lot and sometimes it's not in terms of getting recognized and there's been lots of very odd moments I was chased out of a science museum in Spain because everything was in Spanish there and I couldn't understand anything inside so it was time to leave anyway but someone thought you were something else in New York recently oh yeah this did not come up in in with it yeah so so me my girlfriend fostered a dog and we sort of got our friends to adopt it this is not necessary for the story there's a dog with me I was on the street with this dog and my girlfriend was in the shop and so I was said it was very cold I've got my hoodie in my fleece my fleece hoodie and and then a big coat over that and the dog was really cold so I'll just kneel by you and let structuring did I try and keep you warm and then and then I saw this guy like look off of me like 10 yards away and smile and I was like yeah and just carried on and then he walked past me and he came back like you're about five steps past me then just reappeared with a five dollar bill over my shoulder and then gaze on the coffee maker like oh my god I was I don't think I'm Brett I'm going I'm wearing nice clothes I thought that was a wake-up call I'm hurry I have to maybe you know I do maintain cuz the person that owns the dog has also been mistaken for a homeless person with this dog I think the dog looks very cold and sweet and [Applause] big franchises cuz Alan [ __ ] you did do the x-men one yes yes as you know and and I believe didn't you say it's something I would never do with anyone that you would never do a comic-con and I did we'd do a couple I did well no I've since I did one I said I'd never do another one oh I see yeah walk away with a suitcase for the money yes you do - I did one called I did I'd never done it before and I did one it was called collector mania and the emphasis was on the mania all right I know it's lots of money and a flying meme has endorsed arts and so fans and London dadada but then guess what it was a shopping mall in Milton Keynes how many people well it was lot so it was like a hobbit next to me as a Star Wars person next to this and I met the real Hooda the the original and yes you know Star Trek Star Trek Buddha damn what he's saying is really fun I'm gonna talk like you know I remember when you didn't have such a strong accent but now honestly we're in America but it's fascinating because you're you're Scottish you're English and I'm poor so so everybody was there all these different people from all different films living of that and it was but it was in a shopping mall in Milton Keynes and you were in these rows you were behind this desks and they would say things like Alan [ __ ] nightcrawler and blah blah at number 13 good time to go to him now that lines down to six people it's just mortifying and I need to wait and get paid and you got paid in cash and so and then I was so I decided that didn't make it I didn't like being in Milton Keynes and I felt that it's all sort of I felt there's me an x-men to be saying I didn't know what to say to them and so never nice and everything baby I got the money and I went back to the hotel and I got grant my husband I took my top off and I got grant my tasmat I put all the money like you know when you rob a bank it was in little things like that little thing and I put all the money all over me like this and I made them take a photo I said I never want to forget what a [ __ ] I am Mary Marcus has been divers again on television screens in Call the Midwife its Sundays 8 o'clock on BBC one and you can still catch the Christmas special on iPlayer now this are you now the Mother Superior I am so your mother Mildred I caught myself mrs. Shapiro the only Jewish girl in in the convent yeah you love this job don't you I love it did you I mean you have to be actively canvassed to be in called Midwife I went down on a lot of people to get [Applause] well not true they all got out from under [Laughter] [Applause] before we talk about it we've got a tip of you in inaction is she well she is in distress as you might imagine and the infant Primrose has as yet to be reunited with her mother perhaps continued separation would be best for all concerned if adoption is planned is adoption land obviously she cannot keep the child she fears she cannot keep the child I suspect her desires conflict with what she thinks is possible you just informed me she placed her in a dustbin Brenda is a broken woman father Duncan she has always been a broken woman she had a history of mental illness before she came to us that does not mean she is devoid of feeling I venture to say but it means the reverse I actually seen that before because I don't watch myself oh and now I know why overacting very good kicking please - well it's terrific series and I love it there's a lovely lovely series but the thing about nuns though is can you watch Call the Midwife or does it bring back kind of terrible memories of school oh yeah I mean I am a fan of nuns honest am I am I out he's a great great person but the nuns I was taught I went to a convent school so the nuns I was time eeen the head nun was I mean Fein oh my god she she was about six foot two as well I mean she was enormous and she had a twitch and a squint she was full like old school Hellfire and brimstone we all had to bring our Bibles to assembly morning and afternoon and take them out it was always the Old Testament which is what it is my story this bit she was just incredibly strict and and she knew she picked on me once for you weren't allowed walk on the back here slippers it was just one of the rules because it looked sort of slovenly oh yes and also I drew a face on a diagram of uterus in biology when when we were in assembly she called me out didn't say my name but she talked about a girl you know who had done these certain things and and and said I was the spawn of the devil and Satan and I remember it like it makes it I could I remember she was overacting I think Allen we found it none connection from your school days this is Kenichi high school but these aren't clearly these aren't real nuns but if that is really you uh is that you that's me Big Boss a play called Bonaventure yes and it was a play a high school play I had actually sexual relations with some of those nuns oh really we've instructed followed by fumbles you were gay [Laughter] interesting by is interesting but now you're married you're not nomads and you're a man you were married to a woman weren't you when I knew you you were married to a girl well you know me now ladies like decades do you feel more you now or I mean don't you think it's interesting when you talking about but I just think it's fascinating I think I think it's interesting that people don't talk about it more and that if you I think you know in our life in general everybody wants things to be black and white yeah times they're grey and I they're great for me I've always been grey and I'm determined to keep them great great [Applause] isn't walking around the guy talking about school days you think he's going to go to Daniel Radcliffe drove it don't you didn't go to school I mean I went to school yes I mean yeah I died sort of the first 10 years and then well however long you go to school yeah I'm not very experienced that yeah but yes I went to school on set and and just wasn't there very much any what it's one of the things I loved about Potter was cuz it got me yeah let's go do you have to do any exams yes and that's I went back for exams which sucked my actual school and they must have just hated you when you showed oh so yeah probably you know I was a 14 year old you know the scene I just on some level they were probably think I probably was as well but but yeah it wasn't did they make you go all the way do you have to do a levels and things I dropped out I stopped after a s level so I stopped at 17 oh you haven't any a-levels yes levels if they count what does that mean they don't hate you doing okay say hi to my daughter ciebie who's doing her GCSEs on a radio show sir good luck [Applause] we don't care good luck I don't practice good luck we've got no school photographs oh and I'm so sorry I never thought we'd be doing this again but the viewers won't let it go the Daniel crap if time traveler so there's all the old ones we used to have that was the first we ever saw where that people defined sort of dredge the internet have found photographs of people that look like me throughout time [Applause] some of them that's rubbish that's that's quite actually quite good at those ridiculous oh look there you are as a nun this is still one of my favorites because you look so happy in this one I think when you were time travelling yeah and he's a really good bit of your life here yeah you guys thank you very much we've got some new one a new one visit my family now weirdly we found one do I think you're married to Robson Jerome of your life that's a walk yeah that's a look this one is good this is again another very very jolly bit of his life that is really loving life here hello coming together at last on the West End stage in Samuel Beckett's an endgame it opens at the old Rick I don't want to worry you on the 27th of January so the 28th of March so and I mean they know endgame by Samuel Beckett but hard to talk about but rise but dare you want it yes and the end of the world yes and disease and a lone nurse against community yes and lost hope Miriam's also done end game so mute time in yes yes Sharon Sharon act inhale yes okay that's your your play ham yes and I will be being a big ham and Daniel you play or clove they are sir it is it is it is your four people in a room to I'm sort of Allen's a slave and servants and we are just locked in this sort of relationship where we hate each other but can't tarried ourselves apart but it's funny and famously there's the parents in dustbin yes yes Miriam you played the mother at the National I think we got a picture of it there you are it's a glamour photo that's Tommy thank you that's one did you have to be in the bin for hours hours yes yes hours did you but we've got what to call them no not just been served the ones that the trolley bins a wheelie with all this being used he only Wow did you have wait you don't understand not a whole thing no we can't go up now okay it was very tiring yes Adil is it like a pebble bin no one said about my foreskin yeah and you got a for skid loader [Applause] we know that you can get that's they make because foreskin I just say that shout out to your daughters in I thought there wouldn't be time there will you could get for your face that's made from foreskins divided about foreskins do you know the word smegma [Applause] they you like to give a shout out because I'm feeling your daughter may not be watching this now you posted this picture on on something yes yes in the play I'm blind and I can't I'm in a chair so it's it and mmm and so they're doing this thing where I have little little withered legs over the edge of the chair so that that was a match feed leg so that's a cast that it took on my real legs to attach the spindle x2 and I was just pretending I was in some sort of model for my legs without legs that's that's yeah but it really is a great play yes great test of being an actor to be able to do that I have total confidence in both of you you're wonderful actors for skin or not [Music] [Applause] first show back does it have to be this hard theater what you've done is really clever because you've used it kind of to prove your mettle as an actor and to kind of reinvent yourself also sort of I think it makes you better like you just you you have it's really high it's hard work and it's and I think it and I think it also gives you a lot of confidence to know that oh I I am NOT just entirely a product of editors and directors and to know that you can in some way to do it on your own and exist outside of that is is is really nice and it's also fun like you don't there's you know I love film sets and I love being on there but you don't get the sort of raw like rush that we're gonna be worth reading in like two weeks you know you don't get that from anything else cuz Alan obviously theater very important to you cabaret brought you to America and all these amazing things okay how many times did you do cabaret in the end oh three I did it in London and with Jane Horrocks actually who's playing the part that you played oh it's you know accent car John I must see that it's so first intogen you know 26 years ago she was my sexy co-star in cabaret no she's my mum and a dustbin [Laughter] that's I did it in London and then I did it on Broadway and then I did again on Broadway just a few years ago they went back and did it again just to work before I died what time did you have the thing where it was really hot do you know the storms always hard Jim oh well when I got hit on the head yes that was the first time on Broadway oh there was I was there I was going to do a films I've gone to LA for a costume fitting and I came back and I you know in the plane you get all funny your tubes so funny so I did a neti pot you know that little thing you put salty water and I think and you go up because up your nose and then so it's like it's a good thing to clean out your tubes okay with the salty water kosher salt actually that's good so I was doing the show that night I'm sort of lounging provocatively you know on the top of the thing and you know like when surfers get at surfer strip thing okay I know after surfing suddenly this stuff gushes out well I'm just lounging that and all of a sudden a gush of water just comes out my nose at down my beer chest and well not so sexy now you know amble over to the side of the stage and blow my nose and I mean and then I had to get down the stairs and back to them to the play and I because it was a different route that I was taking so I was no officer I ran right into a light a big huge light and I made this huge divot in my head and then for the rest of the first half I was getting more and more woozy and I could go to open a door in my hand I couldn't find a handle and I'd be like sorry balls and then what was he lasers at the interval I went to a collapse and my tenth of my judgment collapsed and the stage manager came up to my room and stood over me like this and when Alan do you think you'll be able to do this there were all these people suddenly were in my room they're all freaking I you know I had to go to the hospital or try and get my clothes off dinner and I and I was just because I at the end of the first act I had a swastika on my bomb and I lifted up my court and that was that the spotlight on my cheek and that was the end of the first night like symbolized the rise of you know fascism and and my bum was a conduit for a lot of things get quick on in the car you got to quit the hospital and I was just getting wet wipes and going like this and they what you're doing I said well the doctor might be Jewish and I'll be angry everything and then I got to the hospital and it was indeed a very hot night it was a summer night and I was all like I got chibs in me and wires and everything and there was a lady who'd been in the audience had fainted with heat stroke and was taken to the hospital I was in the next room to me in that same hospital Wow and so they came in and I was like mask ones and Alan's a lady next door and she was fainting thing and you know it's blah blah would you go in and see her and so anyway I heard them and I'm in my trolley and my little you know it's stretcher on wheels but you got and with tubes everything and I heard but you know how you're so sad you were so excited to go and see Alan [ __ ] oh I waited for months my ticket I can't believe I missed seeing him and [Applause] there's a true story behind our final products evening it's Sharon Morgan bringing us military wives it opens on the 6th of March and this is that famous story for a few years ago the military wives choir yeah so but it's and it's that true story but you have their fictionalized it to a certain extent yes well I mean it's it's inspired by that it's inspired by this group of women on a military base who set a set up a choir to sort of help take their minds off the terrible situation that their partners are in and and it was when they were sort of deployed to Afghanistan but in the real thing the documentary Gareth Malone turned out was a weak mo him the story he's not in it it's it's myself and Kristin Scott Thomas where the current risk you're working with her yeah but she lies so great I've always disliked her I don't know I don't know just for me sort of almost as mad as you asking anyone are you and Christian are you re are you based on real people are you a kind of amalgamation where we're an amalgamation both Christian and I thought we were too old for both of those characters anyway I'm with often laughs by that but yeah she we ever kind Burt we're loosely based and it's one of those things because to me it's something about groups of people singing it is instantly moving it yes instantly moving like that documentary I couldn't get through it I just sort of loved constantly but also because it really did bring them together it really did sort of create this beautiful friendships and camaraderie we had it even like in rehearsal like we didn't get a huge amount of rehearsal because our director of Peterkin Tony oh he didn't want us to sing very well which was not a problem but he was anytime he saw a sort of practicing or whatever you know he'd sort of freak out and tell us to stop like cuz he wanted us to get better over time like they did in the choir they started out with is this a play or to live no it's a movie movie no I really want yeah yeah see a little bit now we've got a clip this is at you and Christian Scott Thomas I know [Laughter] not convinced the two of you loggerheads everyone up it's a starting note I'm gonna Candace in three four really belted at this time can we hear the tea's please enunciate you shouldn't have to try understand you want them to be mash in a bit but but really it just doesn't sound very good they're having fun it's better that than the sounding joyless and in tune I don't think projection is our issue I mean all the talk about this reminds me of when my parents got divorced [Music] you can sing can't you well I mean you know not really I think everyone sounds better together like and and that's what made us really close and that's what I kind of understand why these amazing brave women like wanted those choirs in the first place because it just brings them do yeah yeah you're very successful now a written pulling cast v motherland vorse and you've talked in in interviews about how you know you you very open you mind your own life for a lot of the the elements of these things I mean it's tricky like with motherland because I do that the school drop and you you hang out you know the mums and in the school playground and out the school gates you would turn up to pick your kids and just sort of glance to your left and go like well there's there's a least a portion of an episode it was just there it's like the character that Diane Morgan plays yeah in that that she's really closely based on somebody she's very heavily on my my very good friend and and it's fine because she knows and she know like from the offset for once we filmed it we showed her a rough cut of it because I was feeling like like she told me a story that is wholesale in there so I wanted to show her that that scene and yes she was delighted she was absolute fun but some people I'm like there's one one moment my kids school who for the whole first season she's like when you're gonna put me in it you know when we're gonna see myself in it and so for the second season we came up with this new character and and it's like again it's just her it's her and one night when she was really drunk round in my house I thought well I'll show it to her it wasn't a flattering you know I mean I took her bad bit my show I sure did Sharon she's just a and I like you do that and now I don't I can't see it babe I just and what people don't don't see them did you see what they want kind of Lucky talking of mining people's lives for drama and comedy mere Mowgli's things happen to you like your is it your house in near Dover oh yes yes because I do rent my house to other people their house to France which is very important in this story and it's 425 pounds a week [Laughter] for seven nights it's really a cleaner yes yes anyway one one day I got a call from the police and they said are you the owner of the gun emplacement and I said yes they said are you aware that it's been used as a drop for criminals to get rid of their drunks or you know it's a drug drop I believe yes phrase and I said well of course I didn't know what do you mean and they said well people have rented it they were a gang a gang babe they took my house and they dropped the drugs in the bay or they and there was a helicopter that came on the roof it's a flat roof yes and they they had cocaine they had a million pounds worth have worked no no it wasn't like a little thing this was 13 million that was like listen I'm wholesale well of course I was horrified because I didn't know I mean I don't have anything to do with the people that rent I know just take the money you know I was I well I could get more for it because it's really lovely was when has reported of course in the Daily Mail all the people online said oh she must be in it she's part of the gang Miriam Escobar [Applause] very good right it's time for music it's 20 years unbelievably since this man burst into the spotlight with his debut album born to do it now he's back performing an exclusive medley please welcome Craig David [Applause] [Music] let me bring it on down I was chicken it's gonna stall with her parents went now she won't say hey boy come right around so when I cut the door you were standing with a bottle of red wine but you depart just didn't love that side and they stir the floor saying why were you creeping around late last night well then I see two shadows moving in your bedroom like now you're dressed in black when I left you were dressed a no way can you fill me again cause that birdie to answer phone read one battle half the call chance gone midnight return Jacuzzi turns on can you feel me you know what well I got something to say yeah it's crazy that it's seven days so check it out oh no I hate to see my friend tool it's a couple blocks away from me as I walked through the subway it must've been a beautiful beautiful I said no [Music] [Music] [Music] yo break it down break it down since I met this special lady oh yeah I can't get around my my one of it and I gained about the special kind of plane you know I never ate some of them I love this for them I hold the mic a hopeless some of them I chat some of them I tried it so high just take no notice notice when I wrap up a like this jump around in my adidas grab a bit R&B vocalist vocalist come over to thank Chris just give me that microphone with a brand new flavor to bring it on trying to listen track makes a song with a free miss come on come on keep it a true that's what I say singing in lyric with this big shots of the piece from I ran away my friend my family [Music] hey-ho chilled on Sunday [Music] [Applause] have a seat do Craig David thank you so much for that special thing lovely and that was I mean it's absurd that was 20 years ago yeah I know those are the first two singles were they yeah we've rewind and then we had you know seven days but it feels like only yesterday it really does yeah what listening to the midwives actually because I really stand up yeah and that's I feel very fortunate that over the 20 years to have like the fans we've been there from the first time around and then seeing there I've been kicking one of but then seeing that the older brother and sisters coming through and then Zen seeing the younger generation I've got this wide demographic of people tomatoes why don't you say that thing the first time around because you did that thing you burst onto the music scene you you know and like pop stars do you burnt really brightly and then as these things do you know it drifted away you went off to Miami and we kind of knew you were in Miami and and then when you came back you were so instantly cool again like which was like the world decided Craig David cool again I mean how did that happen do you know what I was I mean Miami was I mean was great for me for the period of time I was there and I was throwing a house party there which was quit in your house in my house I start off as like a 10 people three drinks before you went out nice and easy couple of couple shots I'm real good and then it kind of word of mouth spread in people like oh come to tears five and there were texts and their mates comes to tears five and then they just sort of built to the point where I was that I was playing to like nearly a hundred people in my home which was you think it was strange but actually was everyone respected it like it was my home but there was a moment where I remember we'd had a couple of drinks anyway and I'm playing with music I'm on the mic it was having a good time drinks on tap food they're like you know copper over there over there and I'm like I can't be it must be the drink it can be a little bit waived so I just carried on like playing thought nothing of it the following days Leonardo was new house I was like no I thought other was a drink so that was the kid it was just crazy to go from like ten people with my mates yeah it certainly not so words are you you ran a house party and in way Alan what you you've done a sort of house party but turned it into a thing sort of like I had I had a dressing room I had a paste of a party in my dressing room and I called it club coming in New York club coming cabaret bar you'd been yeah I have but you have not been on Caprio but you have had big names that is yes yes yes yeah I think the story you're referring to is one time when Adele and Jennifer Lawrence came and they were having a good time and they went downstairs and was a drag queen on that night hosting I think and they went downstairs into the basement the very unglamorous basement where the dancers get changed and the drag queens do you think and it's all creates a beer and things and that and they were down there and and at a video and Jennifer Lawrence getting her makeup done by a drag queen and I said doing this Adele that we both had a few and Adele comes around the corner goes change the [ __ ] face of Dior now Craig David you are on UK arena tour now is this to celebrate the 20 years is it are you going to be doing new music or is it all the old stuff now we're gonna do both a little bit like that the new Z okay yeah so it'll be like some of the nostalgia with the full band show and then I'll switch into more of the party ts5 house party that we're talking about yes second half so people get a bit of everything but didn't eat tickets for that because it's later in the year it was April yeah April and you're going all around the country I know you've finished with two nights of the o2 and one of them has already sold out so yeah so it's been brilliant really well is it thanks for that performance and good luck with the tour Craig David everybody [Applause] a piece a huge thank you to all my guests Craig David [Applause] singing our motto Eva Luca a comedy genius Jennifer Saunders actors Michael B Jordan and Jamie Foxx and the legend that is Sir Patrick Stewart I'll see you bye [Applause]
