with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to saint mark glory to you o lord jesus came into the district of judea and across jordan again crowds gathered around him and as was his custom he again taught them the pharisees approached him and asked is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife they were testing him he said to them in reply what did moses command you they replied moses permitted the husband to write a bill of divorce and dismiss her but jesus told them because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment but from the beginning of creation god made them male and female for this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh therefore what god has joined together no human being must separate in the house the disciples again questioned jesus about these he said to them whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against here her and if she divorces her husband and marries another she commits adultery the gospel of the lord praise you lord jesus christ before i will share something about this let us have a moment of silence for the war in ukraine and for those who have been victimized by this unscrupulous war and for the victims of human rights as we celebrate the anniversary of that we have two beautiful readings of today i don't know if uh 10 15 minutes uh is enough for this but however i should shed light so that later on you could answer the question that was thrown on the first reading of the day and the second reading of the day because these are these are the readings that are actually misconceived misunderstood and miss sometimes we interpret them literally and we should take into consideration the pastoral sense of the church and at the same time the teachings of jesus and after this short elaboration i think of my sharing i hope that you could answer by yourself because it is you yourself the married people and those who are the members of our community who will decide for yourself so the way you could not impose something but however we could guide you on how we should see and how you could be informed in the different decisions of your life so the first reading of today we should take into context the letter of james this was written around 0 70 a.d we are now 20 20 to 80. so 70 80 how many centuries 20 20 centuries and then it was written for the first christians the first christians and they are evolving something and they're becoming more and more cohesive and united but however there are several things that put them into stunts that they were divided among themselves and how to interpret the teachings of jesus now we are in the vantage point that we have several studies his history anthropology psychology medicine and others that we could read the different readings of today how they were intended and how we should see it from our point of view from our faith and from pastoral reason so the first reading is something about james and there were several uh the three advice council of james do not complain brothers so no do not judge and say the lord is compassionate and merciful and then do not swear and these are all actually the several points of an end it is not good to put this side by side again in the gospel of today because they are in different contexts because mark was written the first of the the earliest of the gospel versions was actually mark and this was the preaching of peter and then at the same time it was written uh not distance from before 50 80 be that distance from the life of jesus and so it has something that a kind of occurrence and a kind of it still echoes the teaching of jesus so in in uh equals the the first the first hand because there were still people who are alive at the time who could testify of what has said about on on the different readings of the day so when we we say this do not complain because the letter of james was are about people who are almost clinging to the rock and then clinging to what is the faith and what is the body and the content of our faith but they have forgotten to do something to have social action to have to do something to work for their faith as if faith is only enough that's why james in the earlier parts of in your faith who have faith that does not no work or social action it means that it's nothing it's nothing but your faith should come your content of faith should overflow in the works that you are doing in the works that you are doing for your brothers and sisters and for the church and so while waiting for the coming of christ faithful should not cling only to the faith but also to do something for their poor brothers and sisters for their not only the poor brothers and sisters for those who are in need it doesn't mean that if you are rich and affluent you don't you do not have needs in your life you do not need other people but however there see james is telling that you need to do something your faith should overflow in action but action only without faith is what difference is that with other organization we're just ordinary organization if your faith is not the source of the action or the the the social action that you have in your life so it means that if you are helping it should come from faith it should be the overflowing of the heart of your faith if it is not it's just an ordinary it's not charity it's not coming from god it's an ordinary it's an excess of what you have but if it comes from your heart it means that it is something beautiful it is something that is given sincerely and with commitment and this is how do not grumble again now sabines me james do not grumble do not complain at that time because do not swear because people are telling them because people are because of the long patience belongs on waiting of jesus they thought that immediately jesus would come back then they were grumbling now among one another complaining against one another why this one is not working why this one is only praying now we have remember the story of martha and mary it should be a combination of that that we need to to discern to have faith and to love god and our actions should come and overflow from that love of god from that love of god so if you are grumbling why grumbling why swearing you should be trusted you should be trusted in your work that you should be trusted in your speech because there were abuses about their grumbling with one another and complaining with one another so as if that they will be believed they invoke the name of the lord and this is the abuse that james is against the abuse of swearing and oath that you ask god to testify for yourself because you could not be trusted and trustworthiness is the and commitment are the points of the readings especially the points of jane the letter of james that you should be trusted that our as questions as catholics our words are enough supposedly but why do we have to invoke others because we are not trusted because we could not trust ourselves trustworthiness is the point of the letter and one of the points of the letter of james so when we testify when we swear it means that we are something like something like invoking something higher than us because we could not be trusted because our words could not be trusted complaining but if we are committed and sincere in ourselves and our action flow flow our action flows coming from our heart and our faith then it should be trusted it should be trustworthy it should be sincere and committed because it speaks of the faith and it speaks our actions speaks of our faith and the love that we share with one another speaks of the faith that we have that we profess so say yes because you are trustworthy you do not have to justify that's the point that that's the context of james it's not about legal or et cetera and then don't interpret it that's that way as if you are going to code it to quoting him out of context the gospel of today is a bone of contention even until today because we have people and many some of our catholics brethren all over some of the world are our second chancer that never by second chance they became pastorally from our point of view from the church they became successful in their marriage but however the point of the gospel is jesus was passing through and the pharisees wanted to test him testing him to test him whether he is knowledgeable of the law about the law invoking deuteronomy actually about the law of moses and at the same time that law of moses was about divorce of separation but taking into context what we have in deuteronomy and in the first centuries and even before that because the law was written 800 years before and the time of solomon later almost revised so it was here that that in that that the the context and the legal context when it was written is the legal context the marriage is not yet elevated is that what we understand now as a sacrament it was a legal obligation and people in the time the roman empire people were the the the parents uh pledged their daughter to somebody pledge arranged marriage and then at the same time sometime like and at this time and even in the jewish context it was the boy that the man who was all and considered women as property uh consider them that in order for the woman to be available again and have no legal claim for that woman because she is his property she's his property then he has to find a certificate of bill that she is released from her from him so that she could be available to marry and this is something like it's not the context of ours today because the context of ours in the 20th century woman and women are equal and we consider them in front as brothers and sisters and in the eyes of god they are both image and likeness of god we are both images and likeness of god and so it is in this context that we should not take it literally in a sense but the teaching of jesus instead of answering jesus jesus aruma transcended the answer and made it possible that because of your stubbornness of heart moses accommodated but mark has given has not given an exemption matthew has given an exemption to show to us how the people were debating about what has what was happening at the time of jesus and even the first christians except for an exception except for unchastity except for chastity as chase matthew but in mark there is none but however we should see this from the context that the man in the language gave a certificate of bill because she's one of your properties and then take another one and this is the abuse the intention was the answer of jesus is circumventing and the intention was this male and female the intention of god is like this to form a community to form a family to form a family from the pastoral point of view to form a family so that you could train you could gear up you could nurture a good christian family a good catholic family immediately after this reading actually it's about the blessing of jesus calling the children immediately after this reading the next passage the reading that inviting all of us it's an invitation of us all of us to discern the original purpose to discern what was the purpose the purpose is the intention is that they should become one flesh and i will since we after the the the sequence and the the passage of time it became a sacrament then we we have we have been like green green we should see this from our faith and from the practice of faith and from the point of view of many pastoral care pastoral reason and pastoral sensitivity so from this end we should see that the original intention for all of us is to become united now all of us are striving for unity and even in the family which has been eroded by all this political mudslinging then we need again and again to discern what kind of unity and what kind of purpose god has intended for all of us the decision is always for husband and wife to become one to forgive forgiveness and the decision is always for both of you to decide to become one now for pastoral reason and other reasons you decided that you could not go on because it's a supposed to be a unity and it's hatred and disquietness and other things that that that are happening then you need again to discern and to decide for amongst yourselves what to do and the church will guide you on this matter and the people it's not something like you are not condemned it should not incur condemnation the last part of the passage of the the letter of james but rather incur for prayer discernment and understanding that we should not condemn one another that those who have failed to construct this unity should not be content but rather be prayed together and be discerned together so that they could be given a second chance so that they could form another one that's why we have forgiveness of sins we pray for that always so that we could form we could nurture we could love and we could understand one another when jesus was jesus was writing in the wall and the people accusing the the sinful woman did uh say has somebody condemned you and the woman answered no none my lord we could say the same for all of us neither do i neither do you because god has invited us to love and to care and to be united for one another after this you have a kind of a glimpse on how to answer what lingers on your mind on the different questions that was thrown on the readings the first reading the letter of james and of the gospel of today god bless all of you viva pizzignon please all rise and wife share in god's creation of new life our intercessions today center around the needs of parents and children for
