Destiny 2 - IT ACTUALLY EXISTS.. The Winnower Above The Witness

the first knife witness and winow we've discussed these topics for a couple of years now but thanks to the final shape lore and the salvations edge raid we may finally have some answers and it's [Music] terrifying it's been a debate for years unveiling the witness and the winow was the winow a separate entity did the Witness believe it was the wiow created to bring about the final shape and end the universe unveiling from shadowkeep was told from the perspective of the winow we believed Garder and winow existed together in a garden Before Time and would shape the universe Gardener loved creation and life and the winow represents a force of separation and discernment a cosmic principle that distinguishes what would flourish from what will fail this entity was characterized by deterministic view believing that existence is a game with fixed rules where only the strongest and most resilient patterns would survive the winow is pragmatic and harsh seeing value in the elimination of the weak and the inevitable Triumph of the dominant in the final shapes in teleky lore book Ido describes that the witness and winow appear to be different she explains that the witness is driven by need to ruin and Destroy Everything the light has built its methods involve cruelty and spreading fear and despair among those it encounters the wiow on the other hand focuses on convincing others of its correctness through existence as truth predation and defection it does not concern itself with malice hatred or despair Ido says it does not care whether you embrace it or curse it it simply desires to win and in Victory be validated so Ido had come to the conclusion that the wiow may exist in the final shape we get even more evidence now I'm making this video The Day The Raid was released at this current moment it's not even finished yet so over the next couple of days there's going to be more lore entries in the armor pouring out there's hidden collectibles in the raid that I believe unlock another lore book so I'm sure we'll discuss this further and more information will come out in the coming days but here's what we have right now a couple of dialogue lines from the witness itself throughout the raid still here struggling against the cosmic ties compared to which you are so small it says you call us winow we are not but the first knife clutched in its hand Gods forged us both but they cannot tell the knife what to shape to carve so the witness sees itself as the essential tool the knife used by the wiow to maintain balance and order in the universe it acts independently making decisions on how to prune and shape existence carrying out the Wow's overarching intent of ensuring Only the strongest and most adapted survive with the conclusion in the final mission we see some of this from the witness it speaks once again how it is the first knife and a really cool moment happens throughout the final mission like the seventh mission in the campaign you continue to unmake the witness and in doing so destroying more of those veiled statues the witness since its creation is always referred to itself as we the entire species merge together thus we see your pain we are your salvation in a moment of change as we're ripping these denters out of the witness and possibly those who believed in that final shape it comes to a final moment where the witness refers to itself in first person instead of we it says I in the moment it realizes its defeat the witness has been unmade and the Guardians have truly won we are the first we are the edge that c purpose into being your resistance res will be remembered within the shadow of the black Fleet your pain is poison we are the first life we cannot be cut we will not yeld I I don't understand that's it we did it I looked up in shock I said what what do you mean a special new rule something to The Gardener threw up their hands in exasperation I don't know to reward those who make space for new complexity a power that helps those who make strength from heterodoxy and who steer the game away from gridlock something to ensure there's always someone building something new it'll have to be separate from the rest of the Rules running in parallel so it can't be compromised and we'll have to be very careful so it doesn't disrupt the whole game all you will do I said with Rising Panic Fury is delay the dominant pattern that will overrun the others it is inevitable one final shape no it'll be different everything will be different everywhere you look everything will be the same your new rule will only make great false cyst of horror full of things that should not exist that cannot withstand existence that will suffer and scream as their Rich blisters fill with affluent and rot around them and when they pop they will blight the whole garden whatever exists because it must exist and because it permits no other way of existence has the absolute claim to existence that is the only law no the Garder said I am the growth and preservation of complexity I will make myself into a law in the game and thus we became two parts of the game and the laws of the game became gnomic and open to change by our influence and I only had one purpose and one principle in the game and I can do nothing to continue to enact that purpose because it was all that I was and ever would be I looked at the gardener I looked at my hands I discovered the first knife by identifying as the first knife the witness aligns itself with the act of pruning and shaping similar to how a knife would be used in a garden to cut away the weak and unnecessary this aligns with the inspiral lore books depiction of the knife's role in the garden it suggests that the witness as as the knife has a specific purpose and function Gods forg the witness and your guardian Gardener and winow but the knife has its own agency in deciding how to shape and prune the garden so in other words wiow exists but the witness is its own villain not controlled by said winow a new exotic ship is also available called the final shape and in it Mara and aora discuss the wiow when I first encountered Ed the witness I heard it proclaimed to me we are the first knife Mara's words are as thin as her hopes she looks Hollow under the Helm's emergency lighting hunched over a console watching an ascending red line and a graph something about the Lion's inevitable upward climb had triggered her memory they have to follow the witness into the traveler and soon it was as if that title held power meaning Mara says as the line ticks up again she leans away from the console turning to look at aora who stands staring intently at the portal she feels the same uptick and energy coming from it aikora nods watching Mara's reflection the apocryphal texts we dug up on the moon the ones ays translated mentioned the knife as a concept Mara comes to stand beside aora and even if we consider that unveiled text as dogmatic propaganda there may be truth behind the allegory she agrees remembering the text and transcripts Aris made of them the knife becomes the metaphor of a concept a power a knife that winnows cuts things into a defined shape a power that winnowed living beings into taken aora turns to face Mara searching the awoken Queen's eyes a power or wielded her emphasis on that last word makes her point and Mara picks up on it you're wondering if the knife is a tithe or a power Mara deciphers ior's Steely countenance did oric wield the power of the witness Like a Knife aora shifts her gaze back to the portal the witness is a manipulator it distorts the truth to bend the wills of its supplicants the allegorical fantasy told To Us by the witness paints itself as a monolithic Cosmic Force but perhaps that's a shadow cast by the truth Mara watches aora sensing her ease a little this idea had tempered ior's earlier anxieties over the future this conversation has tempered her own after all even though her brother feels distant and faint in the moment he is out of her mind a knife is a tool wielded by by another's hand Mara offers if the witness is the knife as it asserts then what wields it aora asks the traveler though it does not reply the words are meant for Mara's ears too the witness is not a being she agrees it is the culmination of a bleak ethos willed into existence by the nihilistic desires of its creators is their will the hand on the knife or is there something else ior's fingers slip from the corners of Revelation and her thoughts plummet into more immediate worries and doubts Mara sees her fall and lets herself tumble into the same precipice joining her in worry I don't know so that card is interesting Mara and aora discuss the witness and the wiow as well also indicating that the unveiling text might not be entirely factual but they aren't entirely false either it does look like this card takes place before the events of the final shape as they are still in the helm and it says they got to take on the witness soon so that could be them speculating before and we get further information in the traveler and raid where the witness straight up tells us about this wiow they speak of unveiling as the allegorical fantasy told To Us by the witness painting itself as a monolithic Cosmic Force so I guess this confirms that the unveiling texts were written by the witness I think we've had some confirmation of that before but this further explains it they then go on to say but perhaps that's a shadow cast by the truth so even though ays found these texts decrypted them from the witness some of that may actually be true and its lines in the raid seem to further back this up so this doesn't confirm oh my God there's a dark evil enemy above the witness it's the next enemy we'll face but it does confirm that the wiow exists exists Gardener exists and is real wiow exists and is real The Gardener we know has had trouble interacting with life here in our universe so the same maybe could be said about the wiow sure it exists but may not have any effect on the current game so to speak and what's going on in our
