foreign hail mary full of grace the lord is with you blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb [Music] in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit the lord be with you brothers and sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries lord jesus your mighty god and prince of peace lord have mercy lord jesus you are son of god and son of mary christ have mercy lord jesus you are word made flesh and splendor of the father lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life let us pray grant us o merciful god protection in our weakness that we who keep the memorial of the immaculate mother of god may with the help of her intercession rise up from our iniquities through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever a reading from the first book of kings jeroboam left jerusalem and the prophet elijah the shilonite met him on the road the two were alone in the area and the prophet was wearing a new cloak a hydra took off his new cloak tore it into 12 pieces and said to jeroboam take 10 pieces for yourself the lord the god of israel says i will tear away the kingdom from solomon's grasp and will give you ten of the tribes one tribe shall remain to him for the sake of david my servant and of jerusalem the city i have chosen out of all the tribes of israel israel went into rebellion against david's house to this day the word of the lord i am the lord your god hear my voice i am the lord your god hear my voice there shall be no strange god among you nor shall you worship any alien god i the lord am your god who led you forth from the land of egypt i am the lord your god hear my voice my people heard not my voice and israel obeyed me not so i gave them up to the hardness of their hearts they walked according to their own counsels i am the lord your god hear my voice if only my people would hear me and israel walk in my ways quickly would i humble their enemies against their foes i would turn my hand i am the lord your god hear my voice open our hearts o lord to listen to the words of your son hallelujah hallelujah the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to mark jesus left the district of tyre and went by way of sidon to the sea of galilee into the district of the decapolis and people brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment and begged him to lay his hand on him he took him off by himself away from the crowd he put his finger into the man's ears and spitting touched his tongue then he looked up to heaven and groaned and said to him ephitha that is be opened and immediately the man's ears were opened and his speech impediment was removed and he spoke plainly he ordered them not to tell anyone but the more he ordered them not to the more they proclaimed it they were exceedingly astonished and they said he has done all things well he makes the deaf hear and the mute speak the gospel of the lord so what is our virtue of the month this month anybody remember you always remember respect good so what is what are some of the things we learned about respect this past week got way in the back i saw a hand way back there what was it it's kind of best can anybody here i can't quite hear that far all right well maybe after mass you can tell me oh dude respect god excellent thank you thank you for helping with that respecting god it's definitely so we all when we talk about the virtues we don't want to forget where the virtues come from and where they're firstly directed towards right so respect for god is important we sometimes call that reverence it's a special kind of respect one of the things we learn about respect all right we got some reviewing to do it sounds like so we respect god we sometimes call that reverence but we also want to respect in addition to god we want to respect what was that each other so others and and ourselves right we want to respect ourselves too so uh and what does that mean what does it mean to respect someone it's something it's hard to define these virtues because we sort of like we know what they are like you're respecting me or you're not like and we use we just use the word but what does it actually mean to respect someone love them that'd be good a good way to respect someone show appreciation for them i'm sorry do what's best for them listen to them yeah what was that know our boundaries and oriented towards god what do you mean by that [Music] towards his final right so um respecting boundaries and directing i guess our actions and our behaviors towards god and his will and our final destiny god's will being done beautiful back there if you could lower your mask a little bit i could hear more clearly maybe right not touching other people's things if you haven't asked to so respecting their property good see we do know a lot about respect um and i think you all said a lot of things that are signs of respect and if we want to encapsulate it um recognizing someone's dignity right and where do we get our dignity from from god right so recognizing someone's dignity as a child of god as a person made in the image and likeness of god and so respect the virtue of respect would help us do that when it's not so apparent right when that dignity is not so apparent that's what's really either because we're not able to see it or because someone's maybe behaving in a way that we think is not the way we want them to behave right so respect is sometimes it can be our own blockage our own inability to see another person's dignity from our own our own woundedness our own sinfulness uh but it also can be someone who we disagree with or we think they're wrong or you know whatever and it's like how can i respect them in this encounter right in this relationship how do i maintain respect for them if we're not necessarily [Music] fully in agreement or an alignment on something right so that's very important virtue to maintain right as best we can today we are celebrating a special day let me know what day we're celebrating our native lords and what happened what is our lady of lourdes what is that right so our blessed mother appeared to to saint bernadette in in the grotto in in southern france and what year was that it was on this day in 1858 and it was just four years after uh it had been declared as a dogma something that had always been believed but had been formally declared as a dogma what was the dogma imagine conception so one of the interesting things or maybe the signs of the the proof one of the proofs of this apparition of mary is that this young girl age 14 who would have no idea what the words even meant asked her her name and it was at she appeared over between february 11th and um july 16th which is our lady of mount carmel who's she had several appearances mostly in that first few weeks and then a few times uh between then in the last appearance in july but it was on march 25th that she said finally said you said what is your name tell me your name the priest wants to know your name to prove this and she finally said i am the immaculate conception right so um but what happened at our lady of lords or what happened at the uh at lourdes at the at that grave that grotto that cave the water came out right so um she was appearing to her and so we you know we when these apparitions come and these miracles happen we get we get fascinated by a lot of things about these miracles right um the healings the fact that she appeared in the first place uh that only bernadette could see her i mean as it was happening those first few weeks the crowds were you know a few people came with her a few hundred people came with her a few thousand people came the crowd started to come they couldn't see but they were they wanted to be there in that presence of that holiness uh to see what might happen so there's a fascination around these miracles but mary was trying to show bernadette and all this something that was always there in a sense and she said to her three main things she said she wanted a church to be built there which eventually happened has anybody been there i've not been there has anybody had the blessing to go there um a lot of pilgrimages go there beautiful churches there she said to her pray for sinners um it's important we're sinners i'm a sinner so please pray for me and but pray for one another which is a sign of respecting someone right and she said to her something curious she said look for the stream and washing it and so what did bernadette do what did she do first and what should you do before that and what you do before that she looked for the stream and where did she go she went to the river that was nearby because that was the well that must be the stream there's only that's the stream mary said no that's not the stream and then she did all the things you guys said mary indicated you need to you need to dig a little bit to find that that life-giving stream it's there even though you don't see it and she started digging in the mud and at first a few drops and then you know she said drink it and she's like and the people around her were fascinated by what was happening but they also weren't respecting her very much as they made fun of her right um made fun of bernadette for what she was doing made fun of her for her faithfulness and her reverence for our blessed mother um but bernadette didn't return a lack of respect to them so that's just a little tie into our virtue of the month she was focused on what needed what she needed to be focused on the most important thing she didn't get dragged down into the mud the other mud right she got dragged into the holy mud and she dug and dug and there it was mary said look for the stream and wash in it and ever since then because bernadette was obedient this amazing most pure water you know scientists have tested the water it's very pure it's been flowing ever since and it's a sign you know it's a sign of the life-giving waters that have been flowing ever since well ever since god created the world he's been offering us uh a way to wash and be cleansed and be brought to new life through water you know noah was brought through the water the people of israel brought through the red sea water has often been used as clearly it's a sign of something we use for cleaning things but the signs of this world are point of the deeper reality and mary said dig a little bit deeper dig through the rubble dig through the mud of sin and evil and sufferings and things that happen in this world if you dig a little bit the life-giving streams are always there they're always flowing and they're just waiting to burst forth look for the waters and wash in them right bernadette did that as a sign to show us that those flowing those life-giving waters that flow from jesus christ who is the fount of all life the fount of all healing the fount of all cleansing are always flowing sometimes they get rubbled over and we do need to get on our knees right pray and just dig a little bit just do a little bit and then it bursts forth that's the lesson of lords yes build a chapel because we need to make a place for prayer pray for sinners because we do need we need to support each other's prayer that's a sign of respecting each other and look for the water that will restore you to that dignity that's the dignity we talked about we all are worthy of respect because the dignity that we have as children of god made in the image and likeness of god and that we are restored to that dignity by jesus christ and by the waters that flow from him that's the miracle of lourdes and it didn't just happen at lourdes that's a sign of the miracle that's been flowing always it's always accessible to us today's gospel jesus christ showed that that he restored um his miracles were symbols of what he was doing for us spiritually right we don't always hear god very well we don't always use our our words to speak holy things to speak truths to to speak things of respect right for for time back to our virtue um and jesus says i want to clear that up for you i want to help you i wanna you need to hear me though first you know you need to reconnect with me so that you can speak with respect respecting yourself as a child of god using your words for love and kindness and saying things people need to hear as scripture tells us say things people really need to hear otherwise you might as well not talk you might as well not talk if you don't have anything good to say right that's what today's miracle was amazing they were astoni you know exceedingly astonished but jesus is saying this is what i'm doing all the time this isn't a miracle i'm doing this to get your attention but i do this all the time if you would let me right if you would let me that's why respect starts with reverence reverence for god reverence for our blessed mother if we're not starting there we're not able to get other people to give ourselves the respect we need because we're not restoring ourselves to the dignity that we have as children of god and we're not able to share that respect with others so we have to start in the first place right look for the life-giving waters and washing them so we pray ask for our blessed mother for her continued help and give her thanks for saying yes to uh our lord and allowing her son to become our savior in our worlds we pray together hail mary full of grace the lord is with thee blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb jesus holy mary mother of god pray for us sinners now not the hour of our death amen our lady of lords saint bernadette with confidence in the compassion and love of our god let us offer him our prayers for those called to the priesthood or religious vocations may god praise for truly even to earth's ends you have done great things and extended your abundant mercy from age to age when you looked on the lowliness of your handmaid you gave us through her the author of our salvation your son jesus christ our lord through him the host of angels adores your majesty and rejoices in your presence forever may our voices we pray join with theirs in one chorus of exultant praise as we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith save us therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and paul our bishop and eusebio his auxiliary bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever the peace of the lord be with you always let us offer each other the sign of peace lamb of god so behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb lord
