answer us lord for your mercy is kind in the abundance of your mercies look upon us in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit the lord be with you brothers and sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries lord jesus you are mighty god and prince of peace lord have mercy lord jesus you are son of god and son of mary christ have mercy lord jesus you are word made flesh and splendor of the father lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life let us pray almighty ever living god look with compassion on our weakness and ensure us your protection by stretching forth the right hand of your majesty through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever a reading from the book of the prophet isaiah thus says the lord if you remove from your midst oppression false accusation and malicious speech if you bestow your bread on the hungry and satisfy the afflicted then light shall rise for you in the darkness and the gloom shall become for you like midday then the lord will guide you always and give you plenty even on the parched land he will renew your strength and you shall be like a watered garden like a spring whose water never fails the ancient ruins shall be rebuilt for your sake and the foundations from ages past you shall raise up repairer of the breach they shall call you restore of ruined homesteads if you hold back your foot on the sabbath from following your own pursuits on my holy day if you call the sabbath a delight and the lord's holy day honorable if you honor it by not following your ways seeking your own interests or speaking with malice then you shall delight in the lord and i will make you ride on the heights of the earth i will nourish you with the heritage of jacob your father for the mouth of the lord has spoken the word of the lord teach me your way o i lift up my soul teach me your way o lord that i may walk in your truth for you o lord are good and forgiving abounding in kindness to all who call upon you hearken o lord to my prayer and attend to the sound of my pleading teach me your way o lord that i may walk in your truth praise to you lord jesus christ king of endless glory i take no pleasure in the death of the wicked man says the lord but rather in his conversion that he may live praise to you lord jesus christ king of endless glory the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to luke jesus saw a tax collector named levi sitting at the customs post he said to him follow me and leaving everything behind he got up and followed him then levi gave a great banquet for him in his house and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were at table with them the pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples saying why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners jesus said to them in reply those who are healthy do not need a physician but the sick do i have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners the gospel of the lord i think it was on i think it was on monday mo morning's mass just the i think the words follow me came up again then um and so it's a good reminder that these words come up frequently or are perceived inside frequently many times many different times throughout the gospels that the lord uses these words um doesn't matter who the person is or what they're going through or what they've done or what they're doing they're universal words for every disciple each one of us and it's a good reminder to us to meditate upon those words in the sense that i think as i preached about on monday that that's jesus's answer to everything that we're saying everything that we're going through anything that we're praying about we're struggling with that we're worrying about and we're not sure about they're they're not they're important all the things in our life are important uh the things we're going through but they're all sort of incidental or beside the point when compared to those words follow me because that's the answer that jesus will give to us and everything we bring to him the troubles we don't always bring things to him we try to fix it ourselves or we listen to the enemy or we listen to other people first and we start going all these other paths and we're then we recognize some hopefully at one point we come to our senses and realize okay i'm a little lost i'm not following the lord and then he says i'm over here follow me you know come back over here and follow me and so just keeping those words in mind that has to be our first step in everything that we're has to be not our first step has to be every step but especially when we kind of moment like i'm trying to figure out what to go how to get through this how to get through it well step one follow me right that's the answer um so i think especially during the lenten season as we're kind of visualizing ourselves making a way through 40 days the lenten journey all these kind of words and images that are used for lent you know we're heading to a place we're heading to calvary and we know that it goes beyond calvary it go that's but that's a path and it goes to um to resurrection and the only way through the lenten season the only way through life is by listening those words that jesus says you know perhaps it was one of the first words he said to every person i don't know how many times he said it right but it's a word that he keeps repeating to us so this lenten season is a good time to hear those words again and renew we'll first give god thanks give jesus thank you thank you jesus for choosing each one of us and calling each one of us to follow you but then recommitting this lenten season to those words and making every step we take one that is following jesus as a community of faith let us place our prayers before the lord that the church may grow in grace and number as she spreads her message of salvation to the world let us pray to the lord that political authorities may receive the grace and blessing of our almighty god in working to bring hope and peace to their people let us pray to the lord that all women facing difficult or unplanned pregnancies may receive compassionate care and the support they need let us pray to the lord that those in our faith community discerning a vocation to the priesthood or religious life may find strength and consolation in the promptings of the holy spirit let us pray to the lord that those who have died especially juan cornejo for whom this mass is offered may be welcomed into the loving arms of our merciful father let us pray to the lord heavenly father we ask you to hear and answer the prayers we offer this day through christ our lord amen through our lady of seattle prayer holy mary we come before you as spiritual children in great need seeking your intercession and asking that your mantle of love surround us to console protect and lead us to your son jesus we entrust all of god's family especially the church in western washington into your immaculate hands with your son jesus's gentle power you can undo any not in our church and in the lives of believers who entrust themselves to your care today i especially entrust to you all of our prayers for a complete end of the pandemic for healing for anyone affected in any way by the pandemic for peace in ukraine and an end to the war there and for peace in all of our world and i ask that through your intercession and that of saint james our guardian angels and the faithful in our archdiocese we may be free from every spiritual and temporal ill and be safely led to encounter your son's merciful sacred heart our lady of seattle undoer of knots mary queen of peace saint matthew blessed you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we receive the bread we offer you fruit of the earth and work of human hands it will become for us the bread of life blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we receive the wine we offer you fruit of the vine and work of human hands it'll become our spiritual drink pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father except we pray o lord the sacrifice of conciliation and praise and grant that cleansed by its working we may offer minds well pleasing to you through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for you will that our self-denial should give you thanks humble our sinful pride contribute to the feeding of the poor and so help us imitate you and your kindness and so we glorify you with countless angels as with one voice of praise we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are indeed holy oh lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith when we eat this bread therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you've held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and paul our bishop and eusebio his auxiliary bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever the peace of the lord be with you always let us offer each other the sign of peace lamb of god behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb lord i am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed i desire mercy not sacrifice says the lord for i did not come to call the just but sinners let us pray nourished with the gift of heavenly life we pray o lord that what remains for us a mystery in this present life may be for us a help to reach eternity through christ our lord next friday and saturday i'll be away from the parish and we will have a communion service for next friday morning and saturday morning at nine o'clock led by next saturday will be led by deacon marco the lord be with you bow down for the
