hello ah today's item was released in the year 2012 years ago a can you remember what you were doing then all Internet if you weren't born back then stop watching immediately because I'm going to be saying the word later now le joking I wouldn't say anything like that say hello to the sigh Beco it's looks like a cross between a Star Trek tricorder and a scientific calculator and it is in fact neither it's a really more of a cross between a PDA and a Gameboy I suppose and produced by Russian manufacturer in the year 2000 and I can't for life me find out how much it was sold for and it sold in America for one hundred and thirty dollars so I don't know about a hundred pounds or something I'm guessing I mainly remember these um not because of the device itself because in the year 2004 there was a big hoax going round that Poundland we're getting loads of stock of these and we're going to be selling them off for a pound and that was a hoax and I imagine anybody working at Poundland head office back then will tell you the tales of thousands of people phoning up and whining anyway let's have a look at the device shall we cuz it does look a bit like a heap of crap I'm so really horrible plasticky thing with this nasty sort of crystal effect going on and look you can grip it in one hand and it will detect how strongly you're crushing it over now really I'm making that up yeah the build quality well it's it's fairly solid but the problems come when you look at things like the buttons look at this joypad for starters it's an insane shape meaning it's far easier to turn down this corner than any of the others also you can push the whole thing down at once it's very woolly and you can't really tell if you're pressed it'll live buttons are horrible something I particularly point out is the keyboard let's type in the word grape oh no I'm mashing the keyboard because the buttons are too small for human fingers to press unless you like some sort of bizarre fetal chimpanzee and as a result it comes with a stylus not for a touchscreen but for the bloody gayborhood they're bitten The Simpsons where home has to get a dialing wand Deary me when I pull out of one side I'll probably need that your as big ol Ariel because one of the major features of the sabi ko was sort of instant text messaging service but only from unit to unit and they had a range of about I can't remember to look it up hang on I've written on a piece of paper here we are a range of 300 meters which isn't really that far it's about what a fifth of a mile or something and and yeah if anybody had this I beaker one in that area would appear and you could message them and then you could block them because you didn't like them and all that sort of stuff and you know that was quite exciting back in the year 2000 because nobody had mobile phones yet of course they did start getting mobile phones cheap a few years later which is why this dropped like a heavy stone off the market but never mind or should point out actually and although it had a range of 300 meters in the UK in the American units only 150 meters something to do with them different sort of laws regulating the airwaves over there I believe which is a shame but there was something you could do like flashing and you flash a unit with the UK firmware and that would I can't remember it was so long ago and I don't really know much about them let's look at it and learn more speaker dead batteries and something that looks exactly like a PCMCIA card slot but apparently isn't and then you could like plug in a memory expansion for it and see I think was an mp3 player back when mp3 players were exciting and you wouldn't be that worried about having a device this big to play it from power in that's going to be very useful because the batteries are dead and that's it's some horrible proprietary connector that goes to the serial port of a PC for hideously slow and unreliable data transfer yeah I don't even have the cable for that but we'll get around that later right let's plug her in then thankfully whoever's very kindly sent this in D descend ah the power look there's a little red LED already I'm excited turn it on turn it turned on oh no it's alright so I've got it going just had to press the reset button reflections more than 350 free games and applications at so be cocom not anymore the site closed down about six years ago so Beco and crapped up dreamcast logo spinning right main desktop ray games sucide settings applications freak show no sorry sigh community email chat you and me you and me this has a bit creepy me and you lots and lots for us to do what's going on here then about you you know and then purpose chat you are female friends nope they're pretty much wrong on that I think I'm certainly connected physically to a PC so be a thousand times easier to write the frickin email on the PC rather than use the flipping dialing wand dear disappointing what'd it look like anyway oh that well racers oh cool I like the concept race your small realistic Pokemon let's partners computer now you sound alone least er Wow somebody's got a keyboard for Christmas and his six years old nice what's freakish lots of shrieking and bugs flying around everyone we're bored like some sort of horrible nightmare you get when you've got a fever anyway let's dive out of this because we've got a far more interesting unit to look at by sabhi KO suddenly I feel better until we look at so Beco extreme you have to say like that because there's no II at the start now but Matt a year after that one was released they released this one which is a far far far nicer unit and the whole thing is physically a lot more solid than the joypad thing actually works you know amazingly all the buttons are really definites you don't need the bloody dialing wand that can hide at the back and the sort of aerial just pops up and actually has a bit of give this time there's no fake PCMCIA slots but there is some sort of expansion thing under here I think they literally only made the mp3 player for this one and most importantly USB instead of shite a serial connection mmm although I dare say now that enthusiasm or interest in the serial versions you can probably hack it easier but that's not the point right the batteries in this one do have a little bit of charge but rather than risk it I'm gonna stick this up its bum hole here we go oh how exciting a little bird and we're off look if this one's got like a proper screen with different icons and things on that you can see a bit better nice I tell you what actually must been right kick in the pants when this was released because it was released like about a year after the first one there's only $10 more so if he had bought one of the original ones that would be nasty what's happened oh I think this one I still have a tiny bit of charge at we've picked each other up oh my god I can send a message from one sip because the other it's probably hasn't been done for years sorry talk I think this one's got a built-in microphone or something mm can we chat quickly we're profiles chit chat that'll be it enter where's an intern to select computer and put new software right I did just that and put on a lot of the stuff that sort of came with it originally and also one thing I found off the internet I don't think that works properly from what I can tell excitingly there's some kind of MORTAL KOMBAT type game that I could not get it to work such tragedy go on then let's have a quick look at the apps on this one it's app tastic I should point out by the way this has a faster processor than the original as well and has something like a forget was a really big number like m6 times as much RAM or something like that so it really did make the model you'd bought about a year previously look like a piece of yeah business model that Apple has wholeheartedly matched on to and magic converter and have any magic the needs converting text editor Pro our photo viewer this will be good already the beauty is infinite press any key to start as it slowly fades up the screen weird photo view you don't have any oh god is that bloody conversion stuff forget my memories rubbish go on time for some games that's all we really care about what have we got dicing I don't those ones are actually on it are they are manic miner try that pressing tab that doesn't appear to add anything up it doesn't do anything select maybe that select gears I can't see anything that mentions a gear perhaps I've just got a really slow car those dual racing cars I've said to come no one from home because of my insurance failed or something nerdy hell OOP I've crashed I'm actually really impressed by that it's like a proper playable game and sort of 3d and step line or alley and I could fluff stuck of the screen really irritating anyway escape exit yes top result is naught you have fell down to the top 10 destroy yourself immediately Oh nowhere near as good as Nellie bill Jeff Michael or Donald truly there's a harsh response no at exit yes stop the music much better well that was really quite genuinely amazed by that bloody hell and going to be good candle for the racing game as miles bet on the others that's like partly yeah I'll do use oh no it's trying to use the other sub eco or something no that's not going to work what what is this game is it like soccer bond or something I don't know it hasn't worked death to everybody galaxies race go on then I don't know how fast galaxies move they're very large so racing would be quite difficult I thought there you go right pressing the key to start using on that count yes - no thanks ugly space helmet man No if that involves listening to music like this definitely not beat the other ways of designing the galaxy we gotta try to be in top three go why do I have to go last oh wow wait I might as you pick those up first shoot oh yes planting accelerate shoot at the same time that's the main this is a bit confusing a lot actually see it through the viewfinder with a lot of reflection that's not helping me I do not find joint rings of people actually something I'm torturing a bird also just discovered this has a vibration units because it's reprehend quite heavily well employment anyway enough exits not particularly impressed where I go I think we're going to come away thinking that the car game is the best game where we are sub eco Superbike all this could be good he's got a bike it's pretty super and it's honest abiko go on then yes I do that this is what I was expecting the card to be like go training I'll go however presenter L to accelerate the backgrounds quite smooth but mr. bikie there looks like these just escaped some sort of 1983 go it's gotta be the most annoying engine noise ever I don't get even got a proper held it on this is a giant noise cancelling unit probably shouldn't go under bring a full belt this isn't very good go away never dark our faces again go on and that is funny balls doesn't very funny to me there's more like suppositories they're not funny yeah I think well it's bejeweled only not quite by the looks of it so how does this work I don't know who touched to the same nothing happens looking go that way as well okay that's weird actually so how did that we need rows of three or thirty Elsa confusing right you can sort of hold the button and press a direction that it kind of moves them around and if there's three or more things disappear and Haji doesn't show you that therefore making eternal slightly difficult to work out there yeah well that's an alright little game I suppose something you can play if you're particularly bored and you haven't been the year 2000 now this I was excited by somebody was porting the classic ZX spectrum game manic miner to it unfortunately I tried this earlier and he didn't get very far so we say so pities it looks like to be about perfect there's little minor Willy jumping about notice that there's no sort of things moving and no enemies and indeed no actual jump button that's a bit of a problem it's got some sort of debug mode where you press escape you just flicks in from the ceiling and yeah that's not very good really such a shame a nice little thing to play it on is a bit sort of low res I suppose but hey manic miner classic game get over there well that's that then that'd be a sub eco and asobi Co extreme sigh Beco Sabae co hmm I seem to have automated pronunciation throughout this video how exciting oh there's my toothpick mustn't forget to put that back in my Swiss Army knife well that's that then it's pretty difficult one to say um whether it's only good annoyed I mean I've wasn't particularly pressed with the older units but the posh extreme one was actually quite a nice thing to use um and certainly the quality of the games are far beyond whilst you were getting on a handheld well if you only look at the racing game look at the others yeah don't look so good but such is life and well the sad story of the Soweto is that term it was discontinued in 2003 just three years after it came out because you know mobile phones and that was time to come in and they were a lot better for messaging people so you didn't have to be than 300 bloody metres of them or indeed 150 metres if you were in the UK so yeah the company sort of pulled out of doing that sort of thing nine years ago the site closed six years ago or I think there's only one enthusiast site lift up and running there which is a shame because you know interesting FM radio stuff but now the site Beco is merely a footnote in history but it will always be beloved by people who like really annoying music
