blessed by all that's happening in this sanctuary and all that is going to happen you know a few weeks ago i asked for people to send a testimony of what's going on in their life based on being able nova scotia and you know as we talk often about all the gospel to all the world and every generation this is a testimony that joanne has and it was rather lengthy i brought some excerpts from it because it takes 25 years of her life to tell basically she says i have been deeply moved by recently watching messages by you and your father you were talking about laying hands on your children and giving them a blessing and how when this happened in your church the first time grown men literally cried when i was a child my father was abusive he turned to alcohol and my parents marriage broke up 25 years later he came to me and apologized laid his hands upon my head and prayed a prayer of blessing over me that changed my life forever it wasn't until i was watching your show recently where i found out how and where he learned to do that i wanted you to know that you changed my father's life and the love of god through him changed my life thank you for being who you are [Applause] you never know where the message is going to go and how it's going to change people's lives so joanne thank you for sharing that from nova scotia today i want to tell you about some exciting things says about your situation and put that into effect on your behalf so i encourage you to go and look at that dad we're talking about natural laws but recently you've been preaching about spiritual laws and how the spiritual laws of prayer impact things we need prayer to change some things here on earth amen [Applause] it is a bible fact that what we do on the ground in prayer determines what god can do in heaven god cannot answer prayers that are not prayed and that's one of the great problems with christianity you think a prayer but until you speak a prayer it has not been heard in heaven right now matt america is facing the greatest disaster that we have faced since pearl harbor americans today are still being killed in afghanistan with a little hope of being rescued our president has sent americans into a combat zone and then not gotten them out is a violation of his oath of office to protect and defend the united states of america our president is demonstrating weak and pathetic leadership and we the people are tired of it he has declared a deadline of august the 31st which is two days away for stopping the the deliverance of americans from this captivity mr president there should be no stopping until the last american is on an airplane coming home [Applause] uh what can we do about it right now we have access to the most awesome power in the universe and that is god almighty amen in the power of prayer so i want every one of you in this congregation to write in your prayer journal that you've just received and those of you across america who have received the prayer journal by asking for it i want you to write down the fact that america's crisis in afghanistan is absolutely being miserably managed by our national leadership and pray for god in heaven to make a way of escape for every american life from afghanistan i want you to pray about it like it was your son and your daughter that was over there because they are our sons and daughters fighting for our freedom over there [Applause] that bible verse command je me say that with me command ye me get that in your mind and know that god is waiting for you to make a request that will give his awesome power the opportunity to demonstrate itself god bless you as you as you pray that prayer this week it's that kind of prayer that can make history instead of just see history be being made amen if you trace the history of american i'm not but i can start from george washington and bring you to the last few years of america and demonstrate how the power of prayer has directed this nation through the acts of godly men who are in office right now america has its weakest leadership and one of our greatest crisis hours that means we must pray and pray hard that the supernatural power of god will take over amen to that we're here today to receive an offering so that we can continue to do what god has called this ministry to do and sharing the gospel with the nations of the world if you how many of you in this room are under the age of 68. that's good because you have been alive less time than elmer and melba crossing have been married elmer and melba would you please stand they are celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary and if you think you've under 68 and you think you've been living a long time they've been living together a long time and that's all together different but god bless you and congratulations to you both today now you may stand for the reading of god's word if you brought your bibles turn them to john the fourth chapter the 23rd and the 24th verse as this morning we begin a brand new sermon series entitled what a way to live with this first message what matters most if someone were to ask you what is the most important part of a church service what matters most on sunday what would you say some would say maybe it's the sermon or it's the offering whenever we have the opportunity to increase the prosperity of god's promises in our lives maybe it's the communion as jesus said as often as you do this do it in remembrance of me maybe some of you here today think the most important part of the service is when the preacher says and in closing what if they asked you that question about your daily life what's the most important part of your daily existence what matters most some of you would say it's my health because it doesn't matter how much i have if i'm not strong enough to enjoy it what good is it some of you would say it's my family and my loved ones as long as they're okay everything's fine some of you might say it's my job i can't live without my job what i'm certain of is no matter how many people we ask as many people as there are in this room and those of you who are watching i believe that we would get as many answers as there are individuals about what mattered most but today if we were to ask heaven above today if we were to get their perspective on what they believe matters most here on earth today if we could visit with the angels that are around god's throne and ask them what matters most if we could have a brief conversation with jesus christ our redeemer our advocate and the holy spirit that represents god the father the son here on the earth what matters most in this service what matters most in our daily lives what matters most every day all day what is the one thing that heaven thinks matters more than anything else i believe based on what the bible says they would tell us it's worship worship matters most worship in a corporate setting like this on sunday worship in your personal life on a daily basis worship from the rising of the sun to the going down of the very same the very name of the lord is to be praised worship because the lord inhabits the praises of his people that literally means that he invades the atmosphere of your life when you have the courage to lift your hands and praise his holy name worship because his angels that are around the throne every hour of every day for all of eternity as they fly they cover their faces and they cry in worship holy holy holy is the lord god almighty worship because when you see the saints around the throne in the book of revelation they're declaring worthy worthy is the lamb who was slain to receive honor and riches and wisdom and blessing child of god do you want to see the hand of god move in your life today then worship him do you want to see him move in this nation today then praise him do you want to feel his power in your life today then let everything that has breath praise the lord praise him because he is great and greatly to be praised praise him because he is awesome in power he is full of love he is overflowing with mercy he is sufficient in grace he is faithful from generation to generation praise him because he is faithful and he is true and he sets captives free praise him because he's the champion of calvary the victor over death hell in the grave the triumphant over powers and principalities he has the name above every name praise him because he'll lift your burden he'll move your mountain he'll destroy the yoke he'll bring you through the battle to victory oh magnify the lord with me and let us exalt his name together for the next three sundays we're going to consider what it means to live a life of worship because worship is what matters most read with me john the fourth chapter the 23rd and the 24th verse if you're there say amen but the hour is coming and now is when the true worshipers will worship the father in spirit and truth for the father is seeking such to worship him god is spirit and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth heavenly father today open our eyes that we might see your heart and we might hear your voice calling us to live a life of worship help us to understand what it means to worship in spirit and in truth that we might be the kind of people you're looking for in jesus name we pray all of god's children said amen you may be seated when you open up the bible to john the fourth chapter you suddenly realize that worship changes things say that with me worship changes things john chapter 4 is filled with a lot of issues there are a lot of things that are happening in this conversation with jesus and the woman at the well with jesus and the disciples with jesus and the people of samaria each topic could take a long time to explain but just for a moment let's consider a few first there's the setting john the fourth chapter and the fourth verse it says and he needed to go through samaria he needed to go through samaria now jesus said that he did not go anywhere he did not say anything he did not do anything unless the father instructed him to do it so in verse 4 of the fourth chapter and it says he needed to go through samaria it's his way in the bible's way of letting us know that jesus was compelled by heaven above that he had an appointment in that place jesus and his disciples at the beginning of the chapter are in the southern part of israel they're down by jerusalem and the bible says that they're going back to galilee that's in the northern part and what you see in verse 4 is that jesus and his disciples are going from the southern part to the northern part and suddenly it says he needed to go through samaria he went two days out of his way not because he wanted to not because it was convenient but because god above said there's somebody you need to meet sitting by a well in the middle of the day isn't it a wonderful thing to know that we serve the kind of god who will go out of his way to meet your need oh you can clap better than that people think that we have to come to him and the truth is he's looking for us he needed to go through samaria he needed to reach her he needed to take that detour so that he could meet a certain woman at a certain place at a certain time and see everything that she needed and supply all of her needs according to his riches in glory consider the ninth verse not only do we have the issue of where he's at but we have the issue of prejudice prejudice is a big issue in our modern world today but the more we study the scriptures the more we see the world seldom changes it just gets faster and louder john chapter 4 and verse 9 it says jews have no dealings with samaritans this is what the woman said to jesus because he was asking her for a drink she said why do you want me to give you a drink your kind of people don't mess with my kind of people why did the jews hate the samaritans because the samaritans were a mixed race in the old testament during the the civil war between israel and jerusalem israel was taken by assyria the assyrians moved the israelites out and they brought people from other nations in and they made this mixed race of people called samaritans this mixed race of people they took a little bit of religion from the jews and they took a little bit of religion from babylon and they took a little bit of this and a little bit of that and they heaped it all together and they made a brand new culture and their very existence as next door neighbors was an offense to the children of abraham isaac and jacob so when jesus takes a two-day detour into samaria the disciples are like oh no we are jumping the tracks we are on the wrong side of town does jesus know what kind of people live over here the disciples don't want to be there the disciples don't like anyone who is there the disciples who are following jesus can't understand why he wants to bless such a lowly and pathetic type of people but isn't it shocking when we find out that jesus loves people we don't even like [Applause] [Music] what would happen in the world today if we could love like he loves there's the issue of prejudice but then there's the issues of the samaritan woman's life she lived a scandalous life in their conversation jesus tells her go get your husband she says i don't have a husband jesus says you're right you currently don't have a husband but you have had five at which point she says i think you're a prophet he says you've had five and the one you're with you're not married to one of the funniest verses in all of the bible to me is verse 39 of chapter four because this is when the samaritan woman goes back to her town and she tells the people in the town i have met the messiah now as many men as she's met do you know how many people in town are like yeah right and one of them says how do you know he's messiah and she says he's told me everything i ever did at which point every man in town went wait what we need to meet this guy and out they came this woman is not the right kind of person but she's honest and the point is is there's no there's no point in not being transparent with jesus in your everyday life he already knows all about you he knows the best of you he knows the worst of you he knows everything you're hiding from other people and he knows everything that you can't hide from yourself and the truth is he still loves you but out of all of the things that we could talk about in john chapter 4 i find it very interesting that when jesus is engaging in this conversation out of all of the messages and all of the details that the encounter would have jesus wants to talk to this woman about worship when you get home today take the time to read john 4 verse 20 through 24 and count how many times the word worship is spoken in those four short verses you'll find it 10 different times jesus is not telling this woman how she can get her life right jesus is not telling the disciples how they can get over their prejudice jesus is not talking about reconciliation of nations through history he's come to this place to talk about one thing and that one thing is worship and i believe the message is this if you get the issue of worship right then the other things in your life you're trying to fix will suddenly start to change because when you worship right god's power and god's presence shows up in your life and his power and his presence changes things [Applause] please understand this worship is for real people it's not for spiritual people it's for real people with real problems who've got real needs with real pasts who are in search of real answers trying to live their life in a real world today don't blow it off as some spiritualized concept that has no bearing on your reality on what you're dealing with and what you're working through and what you're having to put up with worship is something that will change everything when you do it in spirit and in truth jesus said it this way he said god is spirit and those who worship him must say that with me must it's not optional they must worship him in spirit and in truth what is the spirit of your worship the spirit of your worship is the passion and the intimacy with which you put out your praise to god let me ask you this what if you tried to romantically woo your spouse with the same energy that you worshipped how many of y'all would find it hard to hug when jesus said you worship in spirit he said god is looking for people who will worship him passionately who are not ashamed to tell somebody how good he's been to them and then when he said worship in truth those are people who are willing to worship in a biblically right way there is a right way and a wrong way to worship when you come to god in worship you're not coming to god for yourself you're going to god to bless him for who he is and what he has done true worshipers will worship in spirit that's with passion and truth because the father is seeking say that with me the father is seeking think about that god almighty god all-powerful god the creator who needs nothing to create something who has all things within himself he's looking for something and when you find out what he's looking for he's looking for worshipers how priceless his worship is so valuable god in heaven is searching for it he wants to know who on earth will worship me with their whole heart who will do it the right way who will do it at the right time who is the kind of person that heaven wants to hang out with heaven wants to hang out with worshipers because the bible says that he is enthroned upon the praises of his people the kind of praise that's not based on the circumstance the kind of praise that doesn't happen when you feel like it the kind of praise that's not up to what time of day it is the kind of praise that says from the rising of the sun to the going down or the very same the name of the lord is great and greatly to be praised david said it this way he said i'll bless the lord with all of my heart i'll bless him at all times and his praise shall continually be in my mouth he was worshiping god in spirit that means he did it with passion and he was worshiping him with truth because he was saying no matter what happens here on earth nothing changes in heaven my god is the same yesterday today and forever he has not changed therefore if he was worthy of praise then he's worthy of praise now and if he's worthy of praise now he'll always be worthy of praise when you embrace this truth when you accept this fact that worship changes things you'll start to worship god in spirit and truth because you're the kind of person that god is looking for and when god finds you all of heaven comes with him look in the bible how did paul and silas get out of prison they didn't lawyer up they brought heaven down they started worshiping god in spirit and in truth they were worshiping him with passion and they were worshiping him in the right way and even though the walls of the prison were strong enough to hold paul and silas when they brought god in heaven down into their jail cell every wall came down and every captive was set free acts 16 says it this way but at midnight paul and silas were praying and singing hymns to god they were worshiping him saying father we thank you that you have not forsaken us we thank you that your loving kindness is better than life we thank you that you are the king above all kings and the lord above all lords and god in heaven heard just a little bit of that and said that's just too good not to go sit in on the song myself and when heaven came down every door was torn off of his hinges because he comes to set the captives free [Applause] worship changes things say that with me worship changes things how many captives are in this place today how many captives are watching in 50 states and nations all around the world today how many people are held captive imprisoned in fear and terrified of the world we're living in how many people are captive to shame in the guilt of their yesterday how many captives are sitting here under the chains of addiction bound by a behavior that holds you and binds you from which you desperately want to be set free how many captives are tormented by doubt and anger and resentment and bitterness let me tell you something today no matter where you find yourself no matter how you're incarcerated spiritually physically financially emotionally the bible says whom the son sets free is free indeed you don't have to stay bound today you can worship your way out of bondage he'll give you liberty and freedom don't let the enemy deceive you into believing that nothing will ever change just lift your hands and raise your voice and give the lord a mighty shout of praise [Applause] worship changes things isaiah said put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness when you start praising god the heaviness of your life the heaviness of your soul is suddenly replaced by the joy of the lord that makes rich and adds no sorrow worship changes things it tells the enemy who is trying to rob and steal and destroy god's promises in your life that when you start praising you're not defeated and you're not going to quit you may be pressed but you're not crushed you may be persecuted but you're not abandoned you may be struck down but you're not destroyed you're declaring with your song of praise you are more than a conqueror through christ you're declaring that greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world oh church worship changes things [Applause] worship reminds you how good god has been and it fills your heart with the hope of how good god is going to be in your future has god protected you worship him has he provided you worship him has he healed you worship him has he been good to you worship him why because worship changes things from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same the name of the lord is to be praised which means that your private worship determines the impact of your public worship right here right now we are sitting in our public worship environment this is when we all get together and praise god in the unity of the faith but how well you worship on your own monday through friday and even on saturday [Applause] determines what kind of power and presence we're going to feel when we get here on sunday your private worship determines the impact of your public worship you see in john chapter four jesus and this samaritan woman are having a debate and the debate is where should you worship the samaritans worshipped on mount gerizim they built a temple there to rival the one in jerusalem it was an offense to the jews and jesus let her know listen worship is in a place he said because the time is coming and now is when you will neither worship god on this mountain or that mountain but you will worship him in spirit and in truth he was saying that worship is not a location worship is a lifestyle that you choose to live first corinthians 6 and 9 says it this way do you not know that your body is the temple of the holy spirit who is in you the point is you don't come to church you are the church when we all get together in the right place at the right time and start doing the same thing heaven comes down and god's glory fills the house but the kind of church you're having when you're not here determines the kind of church we're going to have when you get here if you walk out of here and you say well church wasn't very good today you are partly to blame what kind of church are you having all by yourself because it complements your public worship it shouldn't compete with it say it this way do the things you say and do in god's house on the lord's day sound like and echo the things you say and do the rest of the week and every other day or are those two different people with two different vocabularies and two different out attitudes and two different outlooks when you worship in spirit and in truth then everything you do is seen as an act of praise why because you recognize what john 15 and 5 says where jesus told his disciples apart from me you can do nothing colossians 3 and 23 it says whatever you do do it heartily that means do it with enthusiasm as unto the lord and not to men that means make your work and everything that you put your hands to an act of praise why because if god didn't give you the ability to do it you couldn't in your spirit when you get up in the morning you say god this day is for you i'm going to live it in passion for you i'm going to do what i can for you because in truth i'm the you're the only reason that i can do it in you i live in you i move and in you i have my being that's what acts 17 and 28 says make the conscious decision that you are going to give everything you've got to god every day that you're do every day that you're living and breathing because the work that you do is up to you and the results that you bear are up to him make it a sacrifice of praise james 1 5 says every decision you make you can make a sacrifice of praise because james 1 says if any man lacks wisdom let him ask god whenever you don't know what to do don't sit there and throw your hands up in fear and say i don't know what to do just start praising god say god i don't know what to do but i'm excited because you do and your word says you're going to give me liberally without reproach you're going to give me wisdom you're going to give me knowledge you're going to give me understanding you're going to show me great and mighty things that i know not so while i don't know what to do i thank god that i serve a god who does you can praise him no matter what's going on because he can see what you can't see and he knows what you don't know and he can do what you can't do which is why every breath you breathe you need to make it a sacrifice of praise because every good and every perfect gift comes from above from the father of lights in whom there is no shadow or variation of turning which means when you live the kind of life that worships god for everything privately and publicly when we get together god shows up and his glory fills the house [Applause] now i want to be very clear about these private and public spheres of worship because people hear well i'm the temple of the holy spirit that must mean i don't have to go to church that's wrong hebrews 10 24 and 25 says do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together that's not a matter of preference that's a command now in hebrews chapter 10 you need to understand what was going on in the world at that point in time there was a plague that was killing millions of people in the kingdom of rome not only was there a plague killing people but there was political unrest as the roman government did not like the church it was persecuting crucifying and sending christians to their death and at a time of political persecution and in a time of physical risk the bible says do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together how much more do we have that responsibility in the world that we live in today i want to applaud the leadership of the state of texas that passed a law this week saying that churches will never be closed again [Music] public worship is a necessity private worship is a necessity both are required without private worship your public worship is a performance here's the question how strong would you be physically if the only time that you were able to take nutrition into your physical body or do any exercise to build your physical strength would reflect the same amount of time you spent in church how weak and anemic would you be if the only thing that you got to eat was during the 90 minutes that you were here on sunday i suggest that you probably eat privately and then you come to church on sunday let's look at it in terms of earning how much money would be in your bank account if the only time during the week you could earn money was reflected in the amount of hours that you spent with the lord seven days a week oh i'm busy pastor i don't have time for that prayer and praise and worship stuff well what if everything you were busy with trying to do to make your living was suddenly connected to the same amount of time that you spent with the lord would you be abundant or would you be broke private worship and public worship are not either or it's both why because when we worship publicly it reminds us that it is our father and not my father we have to remember we are not god's only child public worship is necessary because there are certain spiritual blessings that are exclusively available in corporate worship read acts chapter 2 and it says that god did signs and wonders when they were all together when they were worshiping and when they were praying in one accord how did peter get out of prison in acts chapter 12 the church was all together they were worshiping and they were praying and they were in one accord when we publicly worship we influence one another how many have ever been to a big ball game and somebody on some side of the stadium decides we're going to do the wave and i don't know where it starts i don't know that anybody does but four or five people go and under the influence of that foolishness suddenly tens of thousands of people are all going and as you sit there in your chair you're like this is so stupid uh yeah okay guys it's the wave it's just like something jumps on you and you can't stop it do you understand what i mean when i say we influence one another when we worship when i see god's goodness in your life and you see god's goodness in mind it in it inspires us to worship him for how good and how great and how awesome he is when i look at a couple that's been married 68 years i say thank you god there's still hope for marriage in america today when i look at people who are sick and they're now healed i say thank you god you're still healing people in the world today when i look at individuals who few months ago were broke and now they're blessed i say thank you god you're still providing today when i look at people who are filled with joy when there was a season of sorrow i say thank you god you're still doing great and mighty things today child of god our god is great and greatly to be praised give the lord a handclap in this house [Applause] god is seeking jesus said so he said the father is seeking who else knows what's in the heart of the father except the son and he said god is looking for people on the earth who want to worship him who want to worship him who are willing to say lord it doesn't matter what's going on in my life as long as i have breath to breathe i'm going to praise you go read psalms 148. it's 14 verses and it begins by saying praise the lord and then it begins to describe everything that does not have a choice but must praise him it says praise the lord all you heavens and you heights and you angels and you hosts and you moon and you stars and you waters and you lands praise the lord you mountains praise him because he created you praise him all the earth praise him creatures of the land and those in the deep praise him you storm clouds and you winds and you snows and you reigns and you hailstones praise him because he commands you with his voice trees should praise him and cattle will praise him and the flying fowl will praise him they don't have a choice jesus proved it on the day of the triumphal entry when the disciples said is it right for these men to praise you and he said if they don't the rocks will but listen to verse 11. it says let the kings and all of the peoples and all of the judges and the princes and the young men and the old men and the maidens and the maids and the children let them say that with me let them praise him everything else is commanded but you and i get a choice why because the father wants to know what matters most your needs are giving him honor giving him glory your desires or just to be close to him just to spend a moment in the throne room where you feel the presence of his glory and the fullness of his joy god wants to know who wants to worship him who wants to thank him who wants to give him honor who wants to give him glory who wants to lift up holy hands in the sanctuary and fill the air with a song and honor the king of kings and the lord of lords he's looking for those who have been blessed by his goodness who have been pursued by his grace who have been saturated by his mercy who have been given everything by his gracious hand who are willing to stand up and give him the sacrifice of praise are you willing to be that person today then stand in the presence of the lord with me [Music] heavenly father today we want to be worshipers people who will worship you in spirit and in truth who will pour out of the passion and the depth of our soul a sacrifice of praise that heaven longs to hear who will lift our hands and declare that your name is great and greatly to be praised father for all of your goodness for all of your mercy for all of your blessings for all of your loving kindness we lift our hands and we magnify your name for your faithfulness for your redemption for your forgiveness for your protection for your provision we give you praise for the way your hand moves on the earth and how it creates opportunities that we didn't even have the understanding and how it moves mountains of impossibility and how it makes a way where there seems to be no way we give you thanks and we give you praise father we realize we couldn't do it without you today we realize that without you we are nothing but because of you we can do all things through christ who gives us strength so we give you thanks and we give you praise for the sicknesses that you've healed for the marriages that you've mended for the lives that you have delivered we give you thanks and we give you praise are you worthy of it all you were the of it all [Music] for from you are all things and you are all things you watched pastor hagee preach a sermon at cornerstone church or you've been a part of the programs that we regularly put on television you're familiar with this phrase raise your hands for the blessing dad one of the things that we were talking about is a powerful praying parent and you know i mentioned at the beginning of our conversation that god is our father but you in your childhood you experienced a powerful praying parent you told me often how you know every week i believe it was either friday or saturday night your your mother tonight your mother would line up every child that was in the house and she would start at the top and go all the way to the bottom and she would pray a prayer of blessing that sometimes sounded a little heavy and weighty but at the same time you knew that you were underneath the prayer protection of a mother that's exactly right every saturday night my mother would line us up and she would start with my older brother bill and she would pray a prayer of blessing and then she would pray for me and then she'd pray for my siblings and her prayers were strong my mother had a prayer relationship with god that was awesome when my brother became sick with epilepsy she fasted and prayed for three years and for god to heal my brother and god did heal my brother i have seen the power of her prayers shaped the destiny of my father's ministry i will say this now that both of them are in heaven my father did well in the ministry because of my mother she was the general administrator of the church but i assure you she was the one who had the spiritual energy of that church constantly moving uh in the in the dimension of of praying and finding god's will for the life of your children when i was in high school my father and i were in a state of war my father was a pentecostal legalist legalism by the way is keeping man-made rules to obtain righteousness with god it's religious poison yeah they're they have nothing to do with the word of god they have to do with silly things that men create for other people to do and other to in in order to be called righteous or holy that's a whole subject in itself but let me say this father if you are insisting your children do something that you came from a legalistic background uh why don't you give them a chance to enjoy life and shoot every one of those legalistic ideas dead in the head and get over it because it has nothing to do with the word of god i was at such as being worldly whatever that was and he didn't speak to me not for weeks on end he did everything he could for years to humiliate me into submission to fall under that legalistic canopy that he had i simply did not do it i do want to say that my dad retired from the ministry at the age of 60 in perfect health totally exhausted for trying to keep those silly ridiculous rules he just couldn't keep them anymore so i'm saying to every father who is here you pray for your children you bless your children you bring to your children a dimension of the grace of god your children don't want to be like the preacher your children don't want to be like their teachers at school your children want to be like you don't sit around the fireplace when all of your brothers get home for thanksgiving and tell every ungodly thing you ever did and laugh about it your children are over in the corner listening to you they want to repeat what you did if you were bad they want to be twice as bad so you speak of the blessings of god speak of the goodness of god speak of god's power to prosper you of of god's power to protect you because i assure you i was saved because of the prayer life of my mother and my mother made she got a group of women together who prayed every tuesday morning at church for my last my senior year in high school saying if john is not saved before he leaves our home he will never come to christ because he is so angry with the church and brother she was spot on but the prayers of my mother were the thing that made it possible for the third week in the month of january 1958 sitting in the back of the church waiting for the evangelist to shut up so i could go home there was an instantaneous desire to know christ and i walked forward knelt at the altar and prayed a very simple prayer of submission to the will of god i got up and left i finally i discovered i was the only one in the altar and the whole church was standing up aghast at what was going to happen and i walked out of the church and between walking out of the church and getting home which was five blocks i knew that i was not going to go to west point military academy and i had an appointment from senator senator linda baines johnson to go but i was going to go to the seminary and prepare for ministry and 10 days later i checked out of reagan high school in houston and finished my last half year in high school at the high school there and immediately enrolled in the seminary and the rest has become history but the power of my mother's prayer not my father not the preaching of my father not the preaching of hundreds of evangelists who walked across the platform of my father's church but my mother's prayer and her blessings those blessings had awesome power and you have the power mother to put your hands on your children and pray a prayer of blessing that will structure their life for the rest of their life do it you know a parent's prayer is one thing a child cannot silence that's true there was a number of things that your mother had to say to you in your in your teenage years that you could ignore but the one thing that you did not have the power or the authority to ignore or interrupt was her conversations with god sure and i think that there's a very appropriate verse to pull into this conversation because a lot of people ask the question how do we change america how do we mend 70 where the father's not in the home how do we fix the problems that are in the family and just a few weeks ago you shared america's answer and that is first chronicles or second chronicles chapter 7 verse 14 if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray i god will hear from heaven and heal their land and many people wouldn't consider the prayers of vada hagey for her teenage son to be a national prayer but it impacted a nation you did because your life changed in a day instead of going to the united states military you went into the army of the living god and for now six decades plus you have taken your life in submission to god's will and impacted not just this nation but the nations of the world the partners and individuals who have supported this ministry have literally touched the globe because of the prayers of a mother that influenced a generation and the point that i think is important to make is that don't underestimate the power of your prayer right you might feel like it's just a little moment in which you engaged with heaven above but you have no idea what changes god is going to create based on what you asked in faith believing if you want to change this nation pray for the nation the bible says pray for leaders and all those who are in authority but more importantly pray for your children because your children are going to be the leaders of the next generation and if they go into that next generation with the favor of god upon them they have an opportunity to change the world around them and that can change things forever you know dad the bible does say and the bible does teach that prayer changes things absolutely whenever you look in the word of god and you see the effective fervent prayer of the righteous from the old testament to the new testament it changes things absolutely how have you seen prayer change things from the from the moment that i went into the ministry i was given the opportunity uh after about four months to hold a revival in dallas texas uh i didn't know the first principle of homiletics or hermeneutics or the the science of structuring scripture you've never been in a pulpit uh right you'd seen it but you've never done it and um i i went to uh this church uh by the invitation of the pastor to speak to their young people who's called christ ambassadors and there were about 50 people there and i spoke and when i sat down the pastor said i want you to give that tonight to the congregation i said i called him by name i said um pastor i said look i i haven't been saved but about three or four months here and uh i i don't know that i really am qualified to do that he said he looked me up right in the face he said you were born to preach and it took me back and he said and you're going to start tonight you get in that pulpit and you read that text now was he not prepared or was he holy spirit ordained no he he was a prepared guy he had a good church okay it wasn't for for the pentecostals it was a large church and on sunday nights they went to church and so i walked out and sat on the platform and i was no stranger to the platform because i'd been singing in church since i was 12 years old and i sat there and i opened my bible and i found a text and he introduced me i stood up and i read that text and as the lord lives when i started talking one thought after another came into my brain and i i felt like i was over here listening to someone that was behind the pulpit wondering where'd that come from where in heaven's name did that come from at the end of 30 minutes i made an altar call and 30 people came forward to be saved now those were church people and you were preaching to the choir and the choir gave it back yeah and i literally heaven came down that night i mean it was it was a powerful moment i was so relieved when it was over and here's what happened the pastor walked behind the pulpit and he said how many of you folks would like to start a revival with brother john tomorrow night and i was i was about to pass out and they all raised their hands he said get on the phone and phone all of your friends tomorrow night the revival is on i went home and called my mother and i said i am in trouble she said what so what happened she was familiar with that phrase she just didn't know what it was she said what have you done now you've only been up there for a few weeks i said i've uh and i told her i said i i need your help now my mother uh went to seminary she taught homiletics and hermeneutics uh she said well she forgot more about preaching than most preachers know absolutely so she said look go to bed because it's late get up in the morning and ask the lord to give you a verse then you call me on the phone and i'll tell you how to present that verse so i did exactly that and for the first two or three mornings we did that and i would i was had a job at the furniture manufacturing company that was on the church property so at 8 to 12 i was going to school 12 to 1 eating lunch 1 to 4 i was working i'd come and change my clothes get in the car with my roommate and go to dallas and i would have about 40 45 minutes before the service began and i would go over those notes that i would call my mother in the morning and she would go over that and kind of outline and said here are the four five points you can make and i mean i just had them written on a piece of paper about that long and [Music] every night as i got up to preach out of my mouth came things that never went through my brain personally and i realized that i was simply in the hand of god being sculptured for something that was greater than myself at the end of the first week he said we're going a second week the church was full every night and the second week was stronger but at the end of the second week i called him by name and i said if an angel from heaven writes it in the sky to go another week with john hagee as the evangelist you tell the angel to get lost i'm so tired i came off the wall i've preached the best ten sermons i've ever preached and it's the only ten sermons the only ten sermons i've ever preached and he he laughed and he said all right he said but this is real i said it is but i really need to stop i need to rest yeah i need to rest and so i did and uh he gave me enough money to pay for the rest of my schooling for that year and suddenly you decided that you might have a calling to ministry it dawned on me at the end of those two weeks that the ministry was not going to be about my intellect or personal skill it was going to rest entirely on the anointing of god and if i walked in that pulpit with god's anointing all of my preparation was good but the essence of the anointing over that preparation was the difference between a supernatural response and just having church yeah and it's something i've never forgotten i never go to the pulpit without saying holy spirit of god if you are not with me this is an exercise in futility anoint me today heaven comes down you open the book and the fireworks begins and again you recognized the power of prayer as a young preacher who was being used of god but could not do what god wanted you to do unless you had prayed that's it and in that moment the prayers of your mother were shaping the destiny of your life with or without your permission you found yourself in the middle of a 10-day revival that you did not create you did not cause it it took you there exactly right and the reason that i say that you know many of you are watching and you're saying well these are you know stories that that belong to people like pastor hagee who's been in the ministry 62 years no these are stories that belong to people who are willing to pray who are willing to believe in faith that god hears prayers i want to share with you in just a few moments the prayer of blessing that pastor prays over every program over every service over every parishioner over every member and partner of this church and the power of that but i also want you to know that you can do this you can impact the lives of your children for generations to come if you are willing to practice the power of the prophetic blessing and the prophetic blessing again is
