Wow we are back we're back at the nine club everybody today we got a special special special yes Chris Cole hey man a special listen man I could have gone on for another ten minutes the specials for you boy you know that's right well they see you doing these every other podcast out there Chris Cole on here honestly it's just been scheduling well I'm glad you finally decided to clear the schedule and show up you know cuz uh we've been wondering ever since the last time I had the Battle of The Berrics last year we were talking about it you know and you never that is true yeah it's a year ago it's coming up again man I'm really messed talking about what we could talk about how great your episode was yeah that'd be cool and how it's tough yeah and how would you handle changed your career you know that's what are you entering battle at The Berrics this year no why wait but Chris that's weird you have a crisp packed day Chris packed day who's that in one line but you're really good at flat ground I don't understand why you wouldn't like you could just you could if you wanted to you could destroy people when we used to play skate it would be a very gentleman game where you would start off with tricks that were a warm-up okay get the other dude warmed up to run through pretty much all of them until you both kind of agreed like hey let's start let's start ending this game completely get it and now it's like who wins Rochambeau and who's gonna fire off their five specials first because there's no way that you know how to do this wild-ass special trick that this dude learned for this thing well it's I mean it's a comet it's a contest right it's a I mean so you're not out there just playing a gentlemen's game of skate I understand that there are tricks that I could do that would be very ungentlemanly to someone else like a no hand at Benihana that you have to hit down with your front knee that's the Chris cool and we have seen like that all of the bears chopping their dick off and about all the barracks that's that's what I want to see I want to see Chris Cole going for the throat no well you know it's funny and bout I forget what number it was but I wrapped one of your games and you played Christian and that was a crazy game yeah but when he he beat you but like that like said his career pretty [ __ ] good it's funny because when you show up you want to win you know you show up to win yeah but at the same time I showed up alone because I just drove up by myself skated the contest by myself and he brought 50 people he brought la with him he brought he doesn't seem like that type of dude oh he brought like his whole family cuz it was like his chance right okay like this was like his personal no this was when he was like new totally okay God show he brought like his his like mom and dad were there like his family was there logging and no then I think this pre this he had done see he was youtubing okay but the Stoke and how he can attest to this the Stoke in the room that he won was worth me losing dude they were so happy it was pretty family was so happy like his his like family I came up and shook my hand like they were so proud of their their kid and it was thank you for losing but you've won battle the barracks though right yeah yeah dad which one did you win do you do Oh Bella bricks - I think it was - Mike Mo when the first one you won the second one correct and it was all downhill from there basically I feel like you could win every damn contest out there Chris you know well listen we haven't even gotten to the growing up but this is great I want to keep going with this because Street leagues all these contests bro I feel like you could [ __ ] everything up dude and you just kind of don't you kind of nonchalant am I right or maybe you are going for it uh no I'm not why what is going on well it's it's funny I guess not like I'm I'm the [ __ ] but if we're gonna be like factual about this I have won a lot of [ __ ] okay so yeah yeah so I kind of want to skate my best not not necessarily if that is the best awesome yeah but I want to feel like I did what I do okay as best I can do it okay that's I like that yeah and I mean things [ __ ] has changed yeah [ __ ] wild out there sure like when you get a dude like Shane O'Neill in the contest zone I mean Shane can win every single contest right like obviously easily all he has to do is that one trick that he thinks isn't good and that's why he's not doing it he does that nine club' does the other one that he wasn't gonna do nine o'clock that's it I feel like that's the same way for you though I feel you know what I'm saying you're saying that about Shane and I'm saying that about you like I feel like you could go out there and just thank you yeah because you're the bag your trick selection you just you have a crazy bag of tricks you know I want I know Kelly judges those things and even judge you good if you twenty bucks yeah listen sure let's go back to young Chris Cole right Chris Cole where were you born and raised I was born in Statesville North Carolina Statesville no score North Carolina yeah okay I mean North Carolina has got got some good ones yeah MJ oh yeah that's first that's it's my favorite so Sinclair Kenny Hughes you get there you go Yeah right strong dress oh [ __ ] Murphy Dan Murphy Wow so I was born there but by the time I was two and a half I move to Pennsylvania I grew up in Pennsylvania right outside of Philadelphia okay right and so that's the area that shaped Who I am why I am my where every street has a memory who before you had seen everything it's all there and then what how did you get into skateboarding I was looking out the window of my grandmother's house because my mom we lived at my grandmother's house but would also my mom would work overtime and work on weekends and nights and all sorts of stuff to be a single mom okay and so I was at my grandmother's house bored because I wasn't playing in the woods for some reason which is usually what I did and I was looking out the window and some skate dude pushed down this and I remember him pushing down the street with us a no no's board this is a long time ago and he's pushing down he had like the mix cwiebe haircut hi guy it was [ __ ] sick and this dude looks so cool I wanted to be just like that dude and how old were you I tell the story so much that I think I was about six okay but I have no goddamn idea you have no damn idea clue because I swear because when I was thinking about all these moments like I got a hole knocked in my forehead or I learned how to ride a bike and had to eat [ __ ] it was like basically Wallenberg to learn how to ride a bike and [ __ ] figure it out but where I learned was on concrete okay so I just eat it eat it eat yeah that's a good joke a long-ass time no completely different story oh but I did get a whole knock knock to my forehead and all these things I'll be like I was five because a lot of [ __ ] happened in one year okay but then again I also don't remember ever I saw this dude thought he looks super cool not what he was doing was so rad I wanted a skateboard bad my mom was a nurse was scared to give me a skateboard because she is seeing kids and I see you a lot and I see you hit by cars or head injuries she waited two years to finally get me aboard because she was so scared Oh meanwhile I was just steady [ __ ] myself up on other [ __ ] she's like might as well just go all in yeah I was like putting together my BMX bike by myself and I have like little kid arms so I would tighten up the bolts on my front hub but not tight enough and so I'd like the will feel like a tiny curb in the wheel would just roll past me that happened twice on the same curb no I swear or I'd go to like the deli and I get like bubblegum or something and I'd be riding back home holding bubblegum in one hand holding the bars with the other see a driveway yeah and think I'm going for it anyway each oh I got this yeah what board did she get you it was a Toys R Us board okay it was red but I would pay anything for it now common theme right okay all the old dudes are looking for their first board I was checking out my little dick who are you yeah oh let's see tracking down boards is hard already of course tracking down some [ __ ] Toys R Us board no one kept yeah isn't like right oh man I'm really trying to find that one alpha yeah I'm sure it's in someone's basement somewhere it's got no it's it's a weird world but I'm sure it was like made out of particle board and every single version of it as the you end I figured out now that I need to figure of it yeah and then just make it oh you could there you go right no just to have that yeah just make it yeah I could take a jigsaw and cut for sure an uncut board into this thing they'd rip it the same pain of the same in big it was like the graphic on it there wasn't one oh is the bling boring [ __ ] if I know I know it's white it was a white board and it had the like oval like I'm in a space of white and then grip on the tail I know it is roughly about this wide and then wheels about this white each go make something in your garage and just say this is the first board that's what I was like yeah that's what I'm gonna do maura skateboard ever what was your first real board that that sure that you got I think the first real board that I got I bought off with a guy Jason McGowan who taught me how to always down the street from my house he told me on a Holley and I still teach people how to ollie using the same references that he told me how to do teaching at all if iff I was just a dude - what would you say I mean I show you where you've put up your put your feet okay I'll show you where you put your feet right are you putting your back foot in the pocket or on the tip of the tail tip it down that way you can accurately understand where the where the shits gonna hit got you okay and then your front leg goes in the middle of the board and as you pop you have to lift up your back knee yum you have to turn your foot and drag out to the front bolt right if you don't do the drag drag to the front bolts mm-hmm it's gonna be really hard there you go anyway I bought a Powell Ripper off of him okay used oh he always had the sickest boards because he was like in a punk band he was like in a punk band he was a drummer he biked went to Danzig concerts he was cool right so he had a pal Ripper and the grip tape was like stripes and all [ __ ] cool and then I remember he was riding one of those Metallica's or whack boards with a massive tail like the tail was so steep and so long it looked like a like a kid play box cut but on the tail and he had his grip tape meticulously cut into the the Crimson Ghost misfits logo oh really like the skull was his grip tape it was hard as nails did that influence you for your early punk stage and no no you know my brother did oh your brother and my brother oh brother yeah my older brother would listen to any any band by Danzig and he would listen to the entire catalogue non-stop in his room next to my room okay so I would hear all of that all the time oh sure state that's where that came from okay when did you first buy your first leather bracelet this is remember didn't that come later cuz you were pretty like actually I remember it Kelly's dead dead on reference him yeah my first weather bracelet and then I got was because Jamie came out with one on circa because I I i could only go I didn't have resources right that's a single single mom like I didn't have resources to go out to the mall and like purchase this or that okay right other than a you okay my shirt other than that thank you for bringing that up by the way yeah but other than that I would have to get it for my sponsors okay so once circa came out with this right it was like a bondage bracelet to I had like rings on it like so I chain this dude to the wall [ __ ] but I'm like I'm like a teenager that's cool [ __ ] mmm-hmm and I can get it from my company for free free [ __ ] yeah yeah and go and that was right around the time that I realized oh what I'm listening to in the car and what I'm into I can also outwardly put on I can start to not just use my resources of what I have and start to look the way that I feel yeah feeling you in the camera what's funny is at that point I was really influenced by the skating at that time and everybody was wearing baggy [ __ ] and skating and I did I did like a a pretty good amount of hip-hop but they have not that I liked much like other people was very instrument based like when you Ghostface album came out iron man yeah that had such good sampling on it like it was really good out modally really good yeah and I was into that and then Raekwon's album I was into that mmm-hmm so I started to see this theme of oh yeah like or gravediggers when they came out oh yeah and Method Man tech house album was really really good there was a theme there and it was definitely on more of an instrumental and our core theme because you where you were kind of fresh then hash right in the were you getting a lot of like people going like what are you doing like oh I got it I got a [ __ ] ton of agency yeah I got a [ __ ] ton of hate and what they didn't realize back then it's not like the internet now are you just like we're gonna film this now it's gonna come out on Monday there you got right it's it's instant so if I look different on Monday we did switch every night then it was like great so on my yeah they saw my wheels a fortune issue number forty by the way that's why we have it here at 401 knowledge that came out six months after I filmed it and I was in my late teens I was like 16 17 so there was there was actually a couple years you can see the change happen gradually if you watch closely as I understand how long that takes yeah but people want it to be a you know overnight yeah fresh to hash also it has a great ring to it talk is cheaper when the story is good such is a really good tagline yeah yeah I've totally started these guys before but Jerry father and I saw you at FDR you will rock in a full camo the nuclear camel I called it I think it was that's a good name orange in yellow like you were wearing now closet was wearing his gear to they're just digging my hand but like he was destroying FDR Jerry fallin I like who is this dude what the [ __ ] is he wearing and the way like we went to love park we saw him like.he skate the rail like dude this [ __ ] kids so goddamn good no thank you and we never talked to you that day and then like I think was a year later or whatever we did a contest of skaters island for converse yes and you came up to me like hey dude I just want to apologize for the clothes I was wearing that day doing that but that's [ __ ] gay right was like so psyched on you when you cannot into said that to me look dude this kid I apologize for the clothes I was I it's funny I was big Jerry Fowler fan but I remember that contest I remember Rhode Island seeming very very [ __ ] far yeah we drove and it it took for six hours in Philly dude it takes forever to get there Anna and I drove and I remember I was listening to the same CD mm the same CDs okay wanna loop yeah and for some reason the song I was really into at that moment was Madonna borderline Oh some about it okay it was [ __ ] yeah but pj ladd killed that contest and that was the first contest where they let you take like if you landed your last trick and that was time they would let you go until you fell yeah he did a minute and a half extra [ __ ] the minute and a half was kick foot feeble grind sound handrails it wasn't mellow it was psychotic he won so above and beyond everybody else oh my god and there were a lot of good dudes there how did you do I forget yeah yeah I don't know but I I really did like that that's a made of lark I heard the singer from missing persons used to bring our kid there you know what are words for over hair oh yeah she used to bring her here's the state Oh kind of sick right okay so let's go back to growing up and we'll like skating like like love park and stuff yeah we local there pretty much or yes so I I went to LA for the first time by taking the train with my friends about age when I was 11 I was 11 it was it was sixth grade okay I had smoked my first cigarette I had skated my first handrail two three stairs a already three tricks on it and then we took the train down to the city got off not knowing where to go mm-hmm popped up from the subway station there it is it's love parks right there and every dude from the Transworld article is there mad reasons there Ricky's there well there Stevie's there first time seeing yes prose and stuff yeah and they're all there right and so it was a huge deal and then I don't really get credited as a dude that is like a love park skater right other than jumping down the fountain oh yo because there were there were people that based video parts around the park yeah what I would do with my friends is during the summertime usually or just weekends all the time we would go down at about 11:00 at night and skate to about 2:00 in the morning oh because they had they had lights well my love so we would skate there all the time so I was actually I loved all the time and just not really considered one of those dudes Oh so even during the day and then at night also or were you just kind of the Nite Owl I do there I did skate there during the day but not nearly as much yeah not as much as the other dudes so you would like skate there but you you and your buddies to see it seems like you would go out and film like around the city and Stingo we'd go if we'd go to burnt cat or you know it just - there's there's actually a lot there's a lot of footage of him there but I'm I actually have all of the tapes like my sponsor me tapes and that sponsor me tape footage from my friend Jay Fahnestock who filmed okay we had them digitized for the motivation movie and so we got all of those tapes digitized and so I'm going through them now and there's a ton of [ __ ] that we didn't use I get ton at love good you got wild tears lines where I'm like I don't remember and now I remember wow that's weird so one trick that stood out the most back then was the nose slide nollie heel down the rail oh yeah like no one had skated that rails when he was doing the day I saw no way yeah oh [ __ ] okay yeah Oh cuz I like yeah we went from FDR to love and then he showed up later and like instantly went straight to the real and you started skiing the thing were like what the [ __ ] let's get amazing but no one really not too many people skated that rail either but no Pat Corcoran's yeah and she don't know who out skated it actually for the but people giving you a hard time around love at first like the locals there is a little kid loves old what's funny is there was all that talk about you know dudes would Jack you for your board and whatnot I've looked like this for a long long time so even when I was a little kid I was the biggest of the little kids got you okay so I didn't look I didn't look like a victim so I was never victimized because I never looked like one Oh and so I never got that but as I got better at skating and was just kind of wild and sort of just a teenager mm-hmm you would get the cold shoulder shit-talking Oh from local dudes for sure cuz you were kind of coming up and they were jealous essentially of like guys on the side there was there was that right and there was and there was so much to talk about so it was easy because if you saw some dude right now that was at the local park and he looked like a kook and he was like a teenager and he was skating pretty good and you were a little bit like uneasy by it yeah human nature you'd probably say I see it on Instagram almost every day yeah uh interesting though yeah I could see that I could see that like also at the same time I could see like you're getting better so people are like respecting like you're getting good knows certain dudes were always super duper cool and kind that reason was really really kind and cool me when I was eleven the first time I went to whoa I just sat there and just talked to him because he was my favorite yeah and so I just asked him all these questions and he was so [ __ ] cool the entire time and that always stuck with me still to this day I was gonna say because you're a very nice guy I've seen you around fans and kids and you're always engaging and you wonder where they came from you know well I know what it's like to be them yes because still to this day if you don't fan out once on somebody and like where did it where the disconnect happen because still to this day I see Mark Johnson and I fan I try to act cool I I act cool on the outside but I'm definitely tripping constant same thing same thing really yeah yeah okay how do we I noticed you change a little when I'm around - yeah Chris Rob anti-anxiety were they your favorites growing up or was it uh yeah I had a bunch of favor okay like I had a bunch of favorites but there wasn't there was no discrediting these dudes okay it's funny because people bake who was who was your favorite mm-hmm that's like a weird thing to say it's almost like saying it's very tough which one of your kids is your favorite kid Yeah right there because they fill such a such a need all of all of these favorites are your favorite right so it's yeah they were they were because goddamn so if you had to choose one if I had if I had to choose one that shaped the way that I skate more than any other one right [ __ ] that's [ __ ] up one you Nate Lee you leave one off right well I mean it's a it's a two-parter because I could I could narrow it down to two let's hear - yeah rodney mullen and mark down something interesting Wow and those are the two okay did you when you first met rodney mullen were you blown away when I first met Rodney Moen was at my first contest and it was at Rizzo skating Plaza like a roller skating rink underneath 95 in like South Philly okay and everybody was at the Sub Zero contest and the contest results are actually listed at the end of in the credit section of forum one number seven zero contest and I was in the beginner section and I remember going to the contest my mom brought me mm-hmm and World Industries had brought like the team so Kareem was there and like Steve Olsen was there rodney Mullen was there all the sub-zero dudes Fred gall everyone was at this contest it and so I remember rodney was skating in the roller skating rink next to where the parking lot had all this ramp set up used to skating flat grounds roller skating rink with a bunch of kids skating flat ground and so I went in and I got him to sign a bunch of stuff which I still have the signature on this burnt piece of paper from like a bums oil drum fire what did you some grab something off the ground yeah signed it his signature is still sick that's a nice professional write but he did inward heel flips the way that day one does inward heel flips mmm and I did in wear heel flips at that time the way that I still do them like behind your calf muscle where you kick out your leg and you let the board kind of do an opposite hard flip behind your knee it goes up vertical and so we traded secrets so I learned the way that he did him that day and then he were in the way that I done that day what and that was when I was about 11 I never knew that the two different ways of doing humor and heel flips well there's N word heel flip where you just flick down your toe oh yeah which actually works really well if you're putting it in front of you into like manual or 500 K like joy Burzynski style does he do it like better Jerry swings or Joey swings around Daewon flicks toe down okay and then Danielle Castillo does it Totodile I always like the way Daniel did it day yes yeah always a great quick yeah it's an it's your foots way far back in it it's a weird trick because at some point in time you lose track of the board because it's like literally parallel with your leg so you can't see you know what I mean like there's a split second where you it's it's gone it is gone that's why when you do it down stuff mm-hmm you don't see dudes do it down things that are really long you see dudes do drops yeah huh because you need that float you need that second of just slow pop or sure rather than if you're understood that we should Alan carry it calm okay had a good one who that's when the [ __ ] outta I stood I can i if you saw me do it you would laugh all [ __ ] is it is pretty funny I do like a pressure flick my feet eat each other like click the heels in the air there's the sequence that Joey Gallo has a billion marks in a nollie flip down a gap and Billy will be pissed at him that I'm calling him out on this whatever dude it happened and there's one frame where he know he flipped and he goes so mom now I flip that there's a frame where his feet are no no we had but also and you give in like a proper 30 minutes by yourself flat ground totally totally no way I learned it switch it has two ways your switch learn it fakey fake he's easier thank you thank you yeah good this [ __ ] [ __ ] awkward house I've tried up the stage and then shmatte he came along it anyway so we sat there one time and I'll say I'll give you 30 minutes to try to teach me how to do all over the [ __ ] place there's bumps out front let's go [ __ ] let's go this word heals our logo no recycle can and right no time I think it's easier to fakie and word heal all over so anyway I disagree not sure I want nollie popping like no he's down weird as [ __ ] really knowledge of it not off of a hip or a bump because you know a lot just quick right yeah yeah just hit I think it just goes up and all your heels it work on a Tuesday let's go back to like love so you're going and you're filming around the city with your with your homies and everything are you are you making sponsor me tapes now are you trying to yeah get will you sponsored by a shop at first or would so I got sponsored by a shop when I was 12 years old oh and I got sponsored by going to a team tryout with the stood sunny Fleming who was that the team manager at the skate shop and we went to sell fine stone elementary school mm-hmm and there was a set of stairs out back and during the skate session I tried to tre flip the stairs and then I tried and tried and tried and tried and never gave up until I made it why and so is another tre flip debacle and I got put on because of that because she saw your dedication and yeah really and so I got I got sponsored at twelve and then it's kind of like the things that I was involved in were lightning in a bottle and I don't know how it just happened like that but a lot of the sponsors that I ended up getting and during that time that I had them was such a pinnacle of like land speed for instance I was sponsored by land speed wheels okay when the CKY video came out right and so that was actually my first video clip in a real video was in CKY because we were at Tampa and BAM told Ryan G to film me and he points across he's like next to me points to G he's like G to Ryan J yeah film him and I remember G like pointing the camera down going why yeah and I was and he's just like shut the [ __ ] up in filming and that's where the the ghetto bird in the backside flip the flat came from Jay was one the haters I love dude and I went out and I shot so many photos with that that dude actually has an archive of unused photos of me like driver I think like 30 yeah like actually I think I counted on there was like 30 photos that G has like some [ __ ] like which is sick that since I'm actually stoked now that he has 30 photos that I haven't seen and other people haven't seen oh my god see those right right in and when we were shooting photos was at the the height of the Circa days ye so right around that time was when we were shooting a ton of photos so it's it's it's a good time to have photos you must have had a shitload of photos 30 saved and you had a shitload come out back working hard I mean you graduate from high school and skating's already your job right so checks are coming in the mail you don't need much money and so you're just gating yeah all day every single day I have an unlimited amount of supplies who's he who's who these checks coming from well I skated I skated 4-0 mm-hmm well who was your first sponsor her first board sponsor my first board sponsor was Alliance Alliance which is a local Pennsylvania company and I had turned down a lot of local companies because I didn't want to skate for anything because I didn't want to water it down and possibly make it so that I wouldn't skate for one of the bigger brands by skating for this one is small right like a whack right hell kids this all the time it makes sense it's really hard to turn it down but for some reason maybe I was just bullheaded or something but I just turned down a lot of stuff in order to hold tight but I met the owner Brian mace of Alliance he was so damn cool and so genuine that I was like you know what I will skate for this brand okay so I skated for Alliance and then when World Industries came up I talked to Brian I was like hey dude I had this opportunity to ride for world and world to me as I was growing up was so huge that even he was like dude you have to take that that's a great he wasn't bummed right that's amazing so then I skated for world in world during that time although it was rad and the people that I worked with were super cool it wasn't the world that I grew up of course cuz deca started and there was a hole yes it was just not the same world industries wasn't it it wasn't its former glory right so once I realized that and kind of was hoping it would be it wasn't and then I eventually left and wanted to skate for enjoy yeah and I was actually offered hey if you skate for any of the other dwindle brands we can we can pay you or you could ride for enjoy and not get paid but mark Johnson's Mark Johnson and so I said I'd rather ride for enjoy and not get paid right inside skated for enjoy okay and then that's when my ear started changing and I started outwardly kind of moving toward who I really was and Jamie saw that on circuit rips and then pulled me like or just asked me like hey I kind of beat around the bush for a while and I was like wait are you asking me to ride 4-0 and he's like yeah yep Mark Johnson your favorite legend note and see I mean what how totally when I wrote for in joy and joy had this family feel and so you would see those dudes skate together and tilt mode and whatnot of course and that family feel reminded me of my crew back at home mm-hmm and so when I started skating for it yes I was stoked on the product I thought it was really funny I thought the team ripped but I wasn't part of the family I was just a guy riding somewhere else yeah yeah although I did get to go and skate the Volcom park with Mark Johnson one time yeah that was [ __ ] awesome and we also went to movies and saw Mothman yeah with a Mothman Prophecies or did you share it without a corner or something what did you know but so jujyfruits our text from that from that day on would reference how shitty yeah it was pretty funny but yeah then I went over and skated 4-0 okay by the way going back to the the world days and 18 was it I've always hear this like were you did you enter a contest that a team you have to you had to do the trick that didn't was in the mag yeah but you already get a board for them too right no no I was okay both yeah so um I was sponsored by the local shop right not sponsored by a board brand or anything like that just shop okay yeah just my shop and then it was Rodney Mullins nose manual nollie tre for balance yes was in the mag gonna pick you ready wait until you got the mag and then you'd see it then you'd have to go learn it film it send the tape not send them a link like via email or DM go to go to the post office and pay for the shipping on this VHS that they would then watch make sure that it's like up cued up to the beginning of the VHS annual around it and there you hope they even saw it there you go totally and you would write your name and your phone number on on the actual VHS tape and it was here if your home phone so hopefully your home if they yeah so I filmed Rodney Mullins knows my on Maui tre flip and although I didn't win I got a runner-up credit okay Rodney called me whoa and was just stoked I tell him like yo we switch we traded tricks in word heels I taught you how to guarantee I did I talk to zero okay I'm sure I did and then after that I got sponsored okay like in between that short amount of time and so I then tried to do everyone's trick just for me so Mark Johnson's was switched nosegrind half-cab kickflip mm-hmm and so I did it in a wine in my sponsor me tape Oh at this spot oh and then ger Sean's trick was wild and I didn't know how to actually do Gershon move okay but I did know how to do that the Yoshii Yoshii move which was you would do a half of an impossible and then you would kick the truck down Oh with you take off your front and way you start to impossible kick the bat truck and it would straightened out okay and it looked similar but it wasn't the same yeah it was like almost a half it would go up and then down right and Mayhew's was kickflip nose grind nollie flip which was never happy no it was so early out of this world the fact that kids can do it that aren't even sponsored now he has bananas right cuz Jesus Christ I mean yeah it's a whole new yeah I'm sure you have an Instagram you see it all the time oh yeah imagine like if an 18 contest came out right now what would you have to do what we don't be sick actors I would love to see that yes I do like a back flip and then finger flip it seriously I know - Simon Woodstock would be thriving right now feel if it was a I know yeah I'm telling you but he was on MTV Sports with dan Cortese MTV sports he was Oh what did they have a segment on a beard yeah sir like skating a skin board or some shot all of that okay chicken shoes shoes off he had a board with trucks and wheels on both sides so no matter which way you landed Coretta Boyd built one of those because of that how did it work it sucks because you have to you have to land in between the trucks and the other way like what if you do a half a kickflip now you your back foot sliding off you've got these two trucks but you're gnomes a hell of a primo it's stupid and then you can't always sew it yeah good luck getting your board to flip back over because your tail is like on the ground but you're gonna hook onto your foot yeah that's Stoops well if you land primo that's probably really good because his balance is pretty objected yeah it's going to the zero thing when Jamie when you left enjoy tonight a zero what was a so you said you just you didn't feel like you fit in yeah what actually ended up happening I remember we were we were on a circa photo shoot okay and we were out in palm Palm Desert going to these broken-down motels for this circa photo shoot little red and we were skating in the parking lot of one of the actual motels that we were staying at and Jamie asked me hey what is what is enjoys plan on turning me pro oh and I was like oh I don't know he's like wait you don't know I was like yeah I asked them and they were kind of taken back like they hadn't really thought of it yet and he's like it's hard to believe at this point because I had been waiting to go pro for so long because back then people would love to discredit that you shouldn't be pro and I didn't I had no rush to turn pro okay I'd rather make sure that I waited long enough so that not one person can say that I didn't deserve it okay so I waited extra long on purpose for that reason Oh and so when he asked me that question and the answer wasn't definitive uh-huh that's when he says the gears started turning where he's like if they're sleeping on this dude right and I see where he's going he's going to fit this brand in about a year okay so I'm gonna jump on this now interesting and so a couple weeks later I went to Tampa noticed I was at Tampa about to skate in the contest and that's when he called and then overnighted a package of zero stuff to my hotel and we went to Miami for a circa filming trip and that's we needed to shoot a zero ad that day and so I didn't I did the kick foot back tail on a new board new shape new size new concave new gig like completely different and it was called the plank o because it was SuperDuper flat and there was no concave on the nose and tails at all were you used to skating now he's used to dwindle board ok this was completely different this was Watson oh yeah board shop and the concave was so flat that right now when you stand on it it feels like a flat wood board entry completely flat board and then the tails just part of this like bent up huh it was called the plank it was a Mumford Motorhead graphic God had in every bag yeah but that day how did you quit enjoy though I'm gonna say dr. Rodney huh I talked to Rodney okay I talk to Rodney i rodney was really understanding I had talked to Rodney a lot a lot more than anyone else mmm-hmm so I talk to Rodney about it and he was really good friends with Jaime and just completely understood okay and was stoked for me and for Jaime knowing that our personalities would work well together they okay in the work ethic and whatnot because that whole camp was boot camp boot camp straight yeah how was it bootcamp what was the tours were regimented in a chamber they were so hard like the tours were so hard but I didn't know any different okay because that was what I was growing up doing you know any way of skating all the time right and so when we would go on our zero tours they would be the timeline was wake up at the time when you need to check out of the hotel okay and drive about three hours three to four hours to the next city mm-hmm if you get to this you usually get to city right before the autograph signing and demo and we would do those full demo best demo that that city had seen we would go we would exhaust everything at the demo to make sure that there was nobody that could say that it wasn't the best okay and then we would grab a local dude go to local skate spots that he would bring us to it would always bring us to the biggest handrail because of a zero it's a yes to these nightmare routes and we dick calm it down you bring us other stuff when we go to all these spots well into the night lighten up these spots whoa film tricks and then drive till really late at night and then we pull over we'd all crash in a very few hotel rooms so a lot of dudes on the floor and and then dude sharing beds I roll a lot when I sleep so I would just take the floor Oh even if I wasn't am I would just take the floor door new bathroom well I don't roll that much but I roll and I roll enough that if you've got a [ __ ] a boner and there's a dude thank you your wagon better off on the ground yeah I just don't want that moment so yeah so um that's and then you'd repeat the next day yeah demo every day yeah and you tour around the US no was this Jamie saying like guys we got to give this these dudes the best show we gotta like do the best demo these or was it just kind of another student it was just an understood thing it was just an understood thing the only time that we ever had to like have a talk with anyone yeah was either if a dude wasn't skating you became in like [ __ ] skate or that happened all the time like if you're there to kick it live can't get live oh okay your seat is expensive so if you're not gonna skate in that seat mm-hmm you shouldn't be there okay because I mean as Kelly knows you you plan a little trip yeah like you're going to Texas right mm-hmm that dudes seat for like a little Texas trip is for grant there you go yeah right you cost $4,000 to be mozi hell yeah yeah that's a lot right you know and you had that couple dudes that's an expensive trip you you wanted you want assets out of every single yeah yeah for sure so um but like you said everybody gets tired and you guys are on this crazy trip like dude go get Scott today well I mean like I've like I've broken my ribs on tour oh you know that that'll put a damper in your situation or somebody slams really bad but you're still there like with broken ribs through the autograph signing yeah you're still there at the demo to like talk to kids with their arm above your head so you can breathe yeah things like that but then the other time we had to talk to somebody was Tommy gun's was such an animal that he didn't understand the crescendo of a demo where you're just you're building the demo like you don't need you don't need to fire you don't need to shut it down first you go and you're kind of warming up through the demo it's getting better it's getting better then you move over to the big rail for the for the grand final but you would you would go like he'd get there he kicked up the pyramid and then like ride around for a little bit and then frontside flip the pyramid to flat and then go over to the big rail and start from boarding a massive [ __ ] though everybody would run to that area they'd be crossing the course of you what the [ __ ] is happening and then they're just in a tunnel around the big road now we're doing a demo only on the big road yeah it's been a 15 minutes yeah yeah and so we hey yo Paul oh my oh my god I think even Jamie was saying that like his tours were pretty crazy when he was on the show he was say like dude he would just pull over it at a spot at 2:00 in the morning that day driving and light it up and just 100% well you know or like I I remember there's a spot in this town and we weren't gonna stop here and we'll figure out how we're gonna get to the next city but right now we're doing we're doing it and I like I respect it and I love that because that's that's what I grew up doing okay so now now when I go on tour if there's not enough demos I'm like what are we doing here why are we in this town and we're not gonna kick it live for the kids of this town right I mean there are kids that skate here right yeah why should we ever come back for another demo because we didn't do one now yeah yeah yeah let's do it you seem like a good demo you know put on a show and just have fun and I actually loved Emma do you I love them why just the energy of the kids but watching or just yeah it's the energy it's the Stoke it's the it's not just filming in behind closed doors and I remember being a kid and what it would be like to be the kid yeah you know to be putting on as best skating you're inspiring a bunch of people in stoking them up to skate true that's why none of my video parts have ever been slow oh yeah all of my video parts are fast yeah and they're all fast because I want my video part to be something you watch and you're not like man that was the cinematography was beautiful in that like I don't I want you to watch it and go like [ __ ] yeah bored and go out front gate okay right and so demos are the same way I want to like stoke people okay go skate and I guess as I'm thinking about it now it's sort of like a show like a it is like a like a rock yeah for sure yeah yeah it's like a rock show yeah so you came to town you you did the thing right like went up built up and then you can go some paces yeah yeah melted faces well cuz I thought I'd hear that you know zero would leave town and the Chocolate squad would come in we would just you know oh wow that's the two different demos right take zero did and wash it away and we would leave our mark yeah that makes sense you covered in chocolate I'm just kidding I always want hear the story about Tommy gun's and Jamie Thomas about what he's like it's like permission to rip sir permission granted yeah but it sad about me or about Tommy got Tommy gun's but I don't never know funny I was the same thing but about me yeah about me and ello asked me said okay okay did this happen yeah no it never happened what I feel like I'm having with me oh no antimony is like I almost feel like I saw it in it in a video or something you know that's the how big this Mandela effect is for me oh wow yeah just full you know like a like a memory of it yeah yeah right that was like it didn't happen oh no sick all of our friends were talking about it it was like that's the craziest thing I've ever heard it happened to Tommy gun's or is this so it's never happened no it's never happened wonder where this thing came from ROG you know of it maybe it's I mean it's funny it's it was totally believable to how crazy you guys skated so like if if it was set as a joke - yeah it's yeah the joke loses meaning depending on like spoken in yeah but yeah I never heard anything like that that's actually not serious yeah yeah but I hear a lot of rumors like that especially with with Jamie because yeah he is his own yeah his personality right very that's an alpha male personality and so it breeds a lot of rumors such as the Oh Jaime outfitted me right hello Jaime totally like like overnight yeah overnighted me a box of clothing and it was like here you dress and miss now you're on zero and that was the rumor that went and that's why I wore this shirt right here which is the shirt that this is all about is I went to Atlanta okay time for dying to live and I had I think it was like two months to film dying to live or something like that when I got on the team it was like two or three or maybe even four months to film dying to live part and we flew to Atlanta mm-hmm and we were staying at this dude Joel's house and Jamie went to a thrift store and found this shirt and it was too big for him and so he's like hey do you want the shirt it's too big for me okay that was it that was it it's this parking the men's shirt I think he bought it just because he knew was too big for him and he said hey I'm gonna give this to Cole and it's gonna switch his holes well yeah I mean he he would you wouldn't do that he would do that but as a I'm not trying to like you know be all sentimental when I give be a tough love like hey I saw this I thought you'd really like it for shirt I also don't want I don't want you to think Ike I was you know sitting there like right yeah thinking about you all mushy or make you feel like you have to be at home like God thank you so much yeah you would rather not take the thank yous he knew you'd like it so we got it for you and then he gave it to you like hey I was gonna throw this in the garbage so I take this pile yeah it's funny though cuz I did here I mean that was yeah I mean I I heard that rumor too you know like he outfitted you and totally [ __ ] you went from Ryan for and joy which is you know bright colors yeah whatever else and all suddenly you get a box of zero gear it's gonna be completely different you know it's a really that is true it's like Elijah Burrell used to write for foundation and then like when it wasn't writing for foundation I was like everything oh he switched up his kit he's no longer Corey duffle he's like no he just got a buck from chocolate and now he's wearing dropping gear what dude that's a really good point yeah you're gonna have you're gonna look different yeah you're gonna have a shirt that has Bon Scott on it yeah because they had a shirt that had bonds come even in bloom when you're like you up running enjoy boards and that but you'd see your your dressings changed during that like yeah you had enjoy boards mmm so you could totally tell that you were actually into what you were wearing well yeah that's it's funny but I'm happy you notice that there's a lining in bloom he'll flip and then noseblunt on the rubber tree rail at night and I'm pretty sure I have a Danzig skull drawn on my grip tape oh wow it's an enjoy board Oh Mike it's like the half pink half white Mayhew board okay I just I always trip to the east skated Chafee he had a line there and you're part of the fellas sake that one amateur video I had a like a random trick at Chaffey to the L damage video holy pop shuvit nose nose grind shove it back or something like that I don't remember really doing it and then it came out in that video I was like I don't know I don't know this video and wasn't worried about Mike Stanfield me yeah yeah yeah and you know what what's funny about that for a while I tried a different line in Chafee and the the line was the same line but then the half-cab 501 80 was a half cab 500 backside flip Wow or a while and it just I couldn't get it to there was a lot of tricks in that part that was really quick it seemed like I can't remember it was there was a lot of tricks and then that line yeah cuz if you did trick it was a it was tricks up the stairs and then you know it switch all over the block and then like a fakie flip or something and then they have to always a fake if it's my trade flip yeah it gives everybody tre flips in the middle of a line and once I recognized it in like the earlier form ones like the mids like the 30s 30s 40s of forum ones I realize everybody tre flips in the middle of a line for sure I understand why because it's beautiful it flows you're keeping the same stampede keep your speed it's the magic trick it really is it's [ __ ] awesome I could even do kick you know what it is it's like a like a bartender makes an old fashioned the hook in it like it's like a test of like whether you're good bartender is it's so basic but do you make a good old-fashioned or do you not yeah the equip is the same thing yes like a tastemaker that move like do you do a good trick foot right or not or do we have a lazy back way yeah dude yeah I mean [ __ ] so it's kind of in that vein mm-hmm so yours is a fakie flip mine is the fake but what if you're going regular do you turn around do the fakie flip and then turn back around to go keep going you're like if your regular I'll throw like anything but a tre flip really I'll throw nollie flips also heelflips heel floats that good yeah a lot of times a lot of times its heel foot let me ask you this though like I mean you do some gnarly [ __ ] right I mean was there anything that really got you like hurt or just used it was just such a battle - because you skated like Rincon and like a bunch of stuff right that was that I mean I've never been there how does that make you walk up a thing wouldn't you even walk up it right it's real big like how it's funny to do anybody measured it I think it stalls that the the cupboard thing yeah it's gotta be anything that gets anywhere near your face is really hard to jump off of as a grown adult yeah it's [ __ ] up if its face or head high it's gnarly okay it feels like you're doing some jaws ollie whenever it's anywhere near your head right but this looks more massive than the bookshelf in the bookshelf yeah I actually realized that Rincon is the highest it wick with the least amount of distance because coming off is this drop yeah your trajectory will depend on how much pressure comes straight down mm-hm right but Rincon is the highest for the little bit of distance yeah my body way that my body will take if you see the tray flip at the end of dying to live my back knee buckles on the tray flip because it's if that my my body way some of my body weight in that height that's it Matt I got a city that's it so you know if it's Rincon height you're I have to either go out yeah or it's just gonna I can do that if it goes any higher no you're out I'm gonna buckle it's weird though because to me it's like if I'm skating which I would never do but if I was skating rink off and escape the bottom stairs a ledge right I'd be skating flat ground and giving you a high five when you when you landed the trick but uh no it's like you know like you said it's a drop so that therefore like to me in my mind like I wouldn't want to go fast like I would just want to clear that but the faster you go the less of an impact I mean it's an easier thing so does this amount with your mind like I just want to clear the thing well I want to go fast enough so I don't like going over the top block if you've been to rink on the top block actually slowly oh yeah slumps so you hit the crack which you bondo but the top block drops yeah and the top block is what you've two feet long yeah probably short two feet but it's sunk down and so I always so notice one for the noseblunt was before the crack so I'm actually creating that distance so you're going fast like jumping before the credits okay so the rails taller and further away but I'm also creating that distance oh yeah but there's like a ditch at the bottom and a crack at the bottom that's a perfect spot yeah it's like the worst yeah it's gnarly dude what would you either skate Wallenberg or a rink on Wahlberg dude yeah I got destroyed a long burst you know I can't believe him there was a contest Waterberg you like Trey flipped it like second try dude I was there no that was back three that was second try okay back three there you go your life I clapped for you that day with you yeah wait with the back three day back to the burg or sometimes yeah exactly what it was because there was a first Wahlberg contest yes right and the first Wallenberg contest was the first time I tried to tre flip it and I tried to tre flip it I broke my tail off of my board and I would did the splits and as I'm doing the splits I could feel my hips pulling out like my femurs going out I can feel it happening and I was like panicking trying to get my my muscles to pull my femurs back in and so I was super like that took me out that day right during that contest and that's why it was like oh I have to go back for this video okay go do the triflin oh well so I went back and that trick beat the [ __ ] out of me just roll in for that trick or did you put yeah there yeah every time you've skated it you've had the role in or yeah you ever pushed at it did they have the wrong the first time yes I can tell you did have it the first idea okay yeah because the second time was a different so like you going up to San Francisco and be like I want a tre flip Wahlberg like do you make the call like who's like is Jamie making the call to get the ramp but Jamie hits up Thrasher who says hey like I think it was the basically sitting in the parking lot there do they really yeah oh with raster I was gonna I think me something like it like are you down and they throw it on trailer and then what do they do like they just cut the lock - I mean how did they get it in there like just in charge of tre flips see I like that though because Jamie's doing the legwork to get the ramp there and letting you just do your thing it was I love that it works really well it's great and I think that that actually that type of relationship works very well for a lot of skateboarders sure because look at your hands yeah you're so you're so hyper focused on the thing that you do totally that a lot of dudes can't even check into hotels they can't book their own place they can't do anything yeah they might gely need a property manager yeah I gave you an itinerary I don't know right know where I put it but not only is Jamie like a skater but he's like the chief to go out and get that she got done yeah so we got the name Jeff yeah so Wallenberg was a full be done you did a second try it's good yeah I'd smash the [ __ ] on my head first right oh and then because I over-rotated know they like got to stokes like it's on Danny R 540 and then I hit my head and then chief was right there and he checked it it wasn't bleeding and then I ran back up and oh my god is it hype you up more that the crowd is there and like it's this whole thing and you go do it second try where the hype is there but the crowd is there on the Rowand yeah yeah you're trying to like get a position to even drop in to go and not at the same time as another dude drops in because if you're both drop in at the same time what do you do what do you do you both jump down wallenberg and then you got to get in pole position again yeah yeah which is [ __ ] right so yeah when you're being all these tricks down walbro you thinking like [ __ ] I should just hold onto this tray part and come back no I never thought that no it was like [ __ ] just gonna write ya off ya like back I wanted to do and then they talked about moose wanting to do it and I was like I I like that dude skating but oh hell naw that's why you went and did it second try because we wanted to get it done first 100% yeah yeah cuz I wanted to get it first he was like waiting in line to get on the rollin and I ran up the rollin did you give him a little did you give him a little wink before you know he's a good kid that moves me dude and he rips he's insane yeah told man but what's funny about that type of scenario though is I went to get beat up I knew I was gonna get beat up because that's all I know from wallenberg so when back 3 happened second try I felt weird and I felt like I should do more okay and that's why I tried to switch frontside flip it mmm my switch frontside flip because I I felt weird being like well that was easy sit down ya know did you wear like gloves and stuff on that one not on that time oh I did the first time though but I mean 68 Raizel yeah eight tries [ __ ] straight foot was 68 trust really yeah I have like a Children of Bodom hoodie and gloves and it was the fourth pair of gloves if you count the clips in the video or do you like we're actually keeping counting your head Mike Gilbert counted him right oh I can't keep yeah Chris one day he actually brought a counter with them you know the owners yeah yeah I don't know smashing it on the ground over a hundred something yeah I was like freaking out this man you see how much rice oh Jesus Christ well I'm saying that's why it got smashed wait so you you would tried to count how many tries and he got so mad they broke it you never found out how much it was now that little mani pande Torrance you know don't want it super easy to get on - oh yeah I think because it's so low it's difficult yeah because you're dropping into a man yeah literally because there's there's a perfect middle ground for most manual truly and eleven ages at the perfect height it depends on which move it depends on if it's nollie it depends on if it's basically it depends on everything yeah like you guys gave him the courthouse that's tall doesn't matter what trick you're doing up it that's a bad spot for it because it's too [ __ ] tall right but how do I do that would probably be perfect for most perfect totally knows tricks but the thing with the stage is that you know if you are doing like a trick to fake like inward he's faking inward he'll fake Emmanuel right now that would just go right up into fake Emmanuel Lucas is trying that and it's like it's just hard that to go fakie and get up like that it's hard to give it your body to stand up do you know what I mean though like that's true yeah cuz you have to jump up your chest yeah certain tricks just go right into it and then all you have to do is literally like go from squat to stand up well what's wild is Kelly's fakie tre I never go I never seen it goes as though it's about to do a rock it's about to hit rock and roll just get that back on it's all timing that's all it was you know what I mean faster and just time it out and it worked a lot of timing not all timing [ __ ] ton a glute muscle to get you ass up that thing going to a regular manual or switch manual like Chris did switch flip manual like that's like a lot harder than going into a fakie manual or nose manual I'll say you got to get up and over yeah up and over and to balance on the switch manual the manual is like that's that's tough to do yeah every episode just goes to [ __ ] courthouse talk well it's a good topic cause it's happening right there thanks Mark Johnson what's what's wild as I came out to California on one of my first trips to California and I wanted to have the California experience of so stoked I was like skating for action and world at the time [ __ ] and I went with Jason Hernandez to the courthouse mm-hmm in the courthouse was the famed courthouse hoppin oh my god like girl videos like goldfish and stuff I was it was the [ __ ] right and so I got the skate it and I skated the stage but I couldn't skate it like a manual pad like it's [ __ ] [ __ ] it's big it's big like you have to have your manual game on fire so like when I skated it I skated it as a wedge yep and I did tricks like I would go up it and then trick off of it yeah right that's the Sigma do it's fun but you know back then we were skating that stage every day so we were just used to jumping up that thing and skating it and it has a manual pad you know it's really it's a cool [ __ ] spot it is really also that spot for some reason where you pop in to do the manuals it looks nice and inviting there's something that that place looks rad where you're like I don't want to jump up like maybe it's the way that it cradles you well it doesn't seem like in the ground on tops really slick so like if you fall over you're not like hurting yourself you're just sliding and routes down yeah you only have so far to fall yeah sure it's nice I've skated a similar male pad that had like really shitty ground on top and you just like fall over cuz you're so tucked in that you fall over fall forward yeah it just like yeah it turns you up you're like [ __ ] the worse is getting caught at the end and rolling the windows falling off that thing yeah that would be black that happens yeah when you get to that end now dude and you're just in the tail hit the jeez ah it feels like you can fallen off rink wanna go there so bad right now but she talked about action yeah yeah talk about action what do you want a [ __ ] no talk about shoes oh dude I'll go you have do you have a lot of the old action still died Betty do I wish I did oh but I do check on eBay all the time for my size seriously all the time I'm like ten point five gamma you would buy Aires and the kicks like are you we want those too yeah the guy ya know you used to skate in the Aires a bunch I skated in the areas I scared the areas for Carlsbad gap and stuff oh but that wasn't even that wasn't even close to my favorite one my Fit if I had to right now gun to the head best action shoe I'm gonna go with the the kicks in black with yellow trim under the under the sole those are the ones I made I made a clay teapot out of it straight up my shoe howdy in our class oh you might like I made a mold on it yeah a kick you didn't make him look you made it I made it I made it and it's a teapot you pull the tongue out and you fill it up and can you use it no I mean if you could my mom has it oh [ __ ] yeah yeah yeah that's amazing so how did you get on action was it the whole enjoy period I was long before that it was I was about 16 D cream put you on no how did this happen yeah I guess probably Korean put me on I was skating for the skate shop and I got like through rep flow oh man got pushed over to dwindle to where I was like talking to Tony at Swindell about sending out packages and stuff like that oh oh yeah it was awesome and I wish I had kept all that stuff and so now I'm trying to track it all down because your must be an eBay a lot cuz you're trying to track down a lot of stuff I try to track it I try to track it down I mean I casually here and there try to check track it down you know what you need again you need to do some Google Alerts I follow a bunch of shoe collectors like selling the wind egg okay plants skate chomp on cakes chomp on kicks okay and that there's a bunch of them and they just post old [ __ ] yo eggplants gate posts old catalog photos of like one shoe mm-hm and so it'll be the s Causton one and it'll be the catalog of this time and he'll show every colorway as you swipe it'll just be all the colorways that's it dude it's awesome well did you hear that in Europe they rereleased the Casey Kay's for Duff's did they because my homie he's from Brazil he he told me about in heat awesome some guy he's a hate my friend in somewhere in your bottom for me and then I'm gonna get he's gonna hold him for him and get him out here if you find any in black size 10 hey that's pretty crazy actually get on I don't never got those cuz I was I was disconnected over in Pennsylvania yeah so all the videos that I was watching the dudes had him and they looked super cool but I couldn't get him right there they weren't at the skate shop I was like whoa that was one of the sickest years ever dude so it was a ripoff of a Reebok like that thing was so good what isn't yeah like what isn't though yeah you know like something it takes like a bunch of people took the dunk toe and threw it on others there you go right it's I feel like though during that late 90s early 2000s was the most original skate shoe era and I'm happy that that stuff is coming back into style right now because I mean look at the old shoes they were very very cool and there was a lot going on on other they were house skate shoes should be designed now there you go because - because dude if a doctor designed a skate shoe he wouldn't be like hey check out this board feel SuperDuper thin it blows out in a day like you have no ankle protection it's just mmm it's awesome no dude you're jumping off a stairs like the bones in your feet or cramping its messing up your back like right it would give you some substantial yeah a ssin right you can still some of them down and look cool you know yeah yeah for sure for sure but how did you get up so you're on action but you said you had no board sponsor at the time or you were just skating for the shop so I was on action rep flow while I was on Alliance look and then I got on to world and I was still on I was on action proper gotcha and then the Circa thing came on right after that and when the circuit thing came along but what was the did you just was action fizzling out or did would they not dead circ I offer you more money or how did that circa came out and they were off I had had been fizzling for a bit got just kind of disjointed and kind of weird it was the later the later years of action that got kind of bizarre totally and I also wasn't I didn't have a clear path of of moving up and that's about some that's a big thing if you don't know how you can better your situation yeah I had a sponsor where you're doing your filming and you're shooting photos and you're doing everything you're supposed to do right but you don't really know how that's bettering you in this situation you know time ladder at all yeah there's there's you've already reached the ceiling enough of what they'll do right so then I I had Jamie and Chad both over at circa like hey we should put this dude on and I know that a couple of the other people on the team were like no and they had they actually had to fight like series I think Jamie had to fight in circuit to get me put on circuit Wow who were the people I mean I know there's gonna say Appleyard they had a great squad they had a really really good team and so like I said with the lightning in the bottle thing mmm it's such this happened where I got on circa and circa was so huge and then we did the video radio tour and Tom penny had disappeared for a long time Musk it was at the height of Musca Jamie's at the height of man Jamie and they're both on the tour and then there's colcannon oh yeah and Mark Appleyard and James Craig was on his Sammy Baptista was on it John ravary was on it [ __ ] all these people who's James egg that probably all these dudes are on this tour yeah and I just so happened to be on that tour and then Tom penny re-emerges from like Heidi sustained after years on that tour crazy it just worked out so well and you had you had your own shoe right on circa no wait a minute you never circa funny thing I designed a shoe hello and I designed it I didn't know how to use illustrator at that point okay and so I used Photoshop and I drew it up in Photoshop and that much better difficult with forever now they said design a shoe or you were just designing it and handing a to hope this was like at the point where hey we got to start thinking about depending a shoe okay what would you want so I designed this shoe and I had a big C on the side but it looked like it looked like a panel but you could cover it and it would be a c4 circa or my name is Chris right see you and it was a it was pretty rad it was in the way that I though the inspiration that I drew from was there was a there was one circa that I always wore and I forget what the number was and 103 or something but I wore it a whole lot and then rallies vans okay had like a double top layer on your toe I put that on there there were a couple things and I sent it over and that was right about the time that circa kind of [ __ ] the bed and oh when they spent too much money on snowboarding on snow this the snow there was no snow one year and forum was a part of circa so we would get our checks in the mail and they would bounce no way and then we would they'd say oh yeah I don't know why that happened they'd send you another checking of it bounced again did that happen for a long time in there the Abbaye quit [ __ ] charge you for that and the main problem was that no one as as rad as I thought the company was and as as rad as I like the people there he whoever was in charge wasn't telling us what was happening because had they said to me hey this is what happened that's why your check is bouncing we here's a one-sheet contract that just says like X amount of months to let us get our feet under us and then we will pay you this much right we will pay you your back pay I would have been like okay cool there you go but they didn't run so I just never knew what was going on and so eventually I had to just leave yeah nobody would tell me what was happening so I his key yeah it's crazy ugly so that happened and that was a that was a bummer but I had designed that shoe okay and that shoe came out but after the fact not with my name on did have a seat it had everything yeah so I mean I'm not gonna like call out whatever but if you google it you'll find this yo way you'll find it do what I do man sentiment invoice yeah they're completely gone no are they I think they're gone yeah it's a shame yeah what did you do after circa did you have a plan or you just left I had to wear them for it was close track a specific amount of time so what I did do was I told them to send me the all-black Appleyard the all-black out for year threes okay I'm out I was like semi a whole box of them and they sent me a giant box of just all black outfits and then I just skated those so you were back to the four black to the floor and I scared those for the rest of the contract the amount that we signed on yeah but they kind of blew that contract but not pay you I mean they were they were in breach but in order to make it clean it was like okay whatever yeah because I didn't I'm not trying to [ __ ] anybody over there you go right and also I knew that I was gonna go and skate for fallen okay and so because Jamie had started falling from that issue at circa god I don't started falling Oh cuz I wanted arrived for falling and so I had X amount of time to wait right right wait and wait so Sir Colin starts and you get on falling and you had some models on phone I did it yeah I mean you guys were you guys were killing it you know fallen zero hears that you know you guys are it was a big day on top of the world it was a big distribution for sure Mary started falling by going to DC and like hey help I start this thing and then took it away well that's how people do it though yeah yeah because basically they they they get their money DC did the same thing with soul tech I know soul tech help DC start then they go to their thing that's the way way go skateboards helping skateboarders man also a shoe company there's a reason why there aren't many because it's not a man once you start your own shoe brand a man well that one colorway full-size runs yeah enough to sell that's couple mil yeah it's make the mold for all the shoes like it's it's no I stood and and much like a music album where somebody will just give it one half listen and [ __ ] on your work for the last years of your life just like tempura how them sucks they do that with shoes too no like if you do that we mod cast as well if you come out with the shoe and it looks anywhere similar to another shoe yeah no big it's a fake ass this even though you were millions into it and you you did true [ __ ] best it's like right wack that's it and they move on yeah it's crazy you gotta love it man huh do it too I'm sure no black well I do with TV shows I'll watch a TV show for just not even a whole episode sometimes or someone give it an episode or two and I still can't get into it I mean yeah but there are no shows like Big Bang Theory where you you catch one second of it right no see that's one of the shows right now everybody [ __ ] loves you I know it's crazy I said that and then I got an airplane once and I was sitting next to my dad and we both watch to watch it you know sitting here at the house it was actually funny but that's sure like you don't really it was funny you watch that show anytime in your cop dispute and I don't watch it any like I watch it that one time that's pretty funny by number watch it again you know new girl is oh I like Zoey dish you know that's a good show that one's funny as [ __ ] I'm just talking about big new girls funny check it out also if I'm on a plane I'm usually watching Lord of the Rings portal rings oh yeah a few towers is offered two towers do a game of Thrones guy Game of Thrones yeah totally yeah okay yeah but I'm not just like don't it's not a blanket medieval times okay it's era it's just good storyline so I mean every show you watch it because of character building first shirt for the most preferred shirt order the Rings is the [ __ ] though The Hobbit awesome I've never seen it there even hotter is great I've watched a couple here Potter's I mean that's all no I can't imagine watching over and over again though you haven't you haven't checked out ABC Family right now guarantee Sorcerer's Stone is on right now Chamber of Secrets is on right what was the second one Harry Potter second Harry Potter movie I think I saw that one source down so she stood okay yeah yeah because I think the first one is Chamber of Secrets right oh I have no idea good good should we tax carrot Hill how many get there there's there's 20 movies eight eight seems like 20 right noise rate a new one - right let's do this guy's yeah Chamber of Secrets a more secrets uh half-blood Prince okay never heard of that one there's got what a fire go okay there's order of the Phoenix Lord of the Phoenix order of the fiord er of the Phoenix get it right sorry there's Deathly Hallows doh part 1 part 2 two parts there's another one Garret God where's Garrett is he a big fan sounds like Oh prisoner of azkaban prisoner asking all these up and cool yeah I have no idea dude yo that's the last one Prisoner of Azkaban no no that one's that one's before that's where you that's where serious black guy that's where you meet Sirius Black and you realize how he's not a bad guy this is Gargamel that's that's definitely the Smurfs oh this is from an eighties cartoon got it bones bushings what do you use yeah I put Bona Lords in oh I ride my trucks very tight but my father my front truck is loose okay because you guys talked about this with Ishod yeah and switch around his board because he rides a symmetrical board right huh but the even a bigger deal is that he tightens his trucks the same size trucks and then the same on both sides so he can flip around his board yeah I actually saw him now he where he'll foot the organ stairs in Philly okay and he chipped the nose and so we spun it around the room knowing and I was like how do you do that because my front truck is loose my back truck is tight because my back truck is my focal point my head is sitting over my back truck yeah so I need stability back there and I and I turn with my front okay oh so I do want a symmetrical board but I can't escape the nose yeah yeah right that's not what I can do I mean you just grew up skating that way you know you grew up being this is my tail my board this is my nose aboard this how about turn exactly yeah yeah because if I if I do a frontside flip I want to then be able to do a switch trick I don't want to do a frontside flip and then have to do with a fakie shove it yeah yeah to do a switch flip okay right also the trick was to wear out both tails mm-hmm just like when you were younger used to trade shoes with somebody who was the opposite stance of you in the same size Yeah right because you tear up one side he tears up the other high-five switch it yeah yeah right you guys have yeah that's a shoes man you are very uh your calculated person you know very calculus that yeah so why am i riding along so well I know with Rodney he loves it you know I understand what he loves about it okay because I recently um like we learned a bunch of math stuff while I was driving that way okay because I wanted to figure out what my average speed was going to be yo if it's gonna take me fifty minutes okay I get 14 miles anyway how fast am I going to be traveling and so I had to figure out how to do that but I also had to learn how to divide again long division which I did not know how to do anymore so you turned to find your average speed through that time I basically listened to what they were doing on these YouTube videos as I was driving up that way stuck in traffic I've listened and I keep a a big post-it note on my center console right here and I'll write or Nizam watching the road I'll just write mix ideas and stuff away and so I would do the math like this and driving big if you got pulled over to kinda like dude man I'm from me he a he big get out of hiding yeah but I can understand why Rodney loves that you know there was the innovation part of Rodney is really funny we went to a Ben Harper concert hmm and he was there and we were backstage at Del Mar Fairgrounds and we started talking about hardflips and with Ben Rodney and I over we were drawing boards in the dirt and then showing where we set up and why we set out in order to like if your trucks are tight you have to do this and we were talking about that oh and when I did the MBD video part he like chimed in with like trick suggestions and okay oh wow which is pretty pretty cool well yeah the NBD video part that was was that a DC thing oh yeah yeah okay that's just you know it was the perfect scenario to break you down and turn you completely mad I bet it was a warehouse that you decided that these ramps were gonna be there so no one's to blame yeah they are exactly how you wanted them and you have a filmer and that's a in a list of n biddies list of em biddies that you've made up but you think that you haven't seen you I'm sure everything's been done in the 90s they did every single thing right but you haven't but but not in this body and I haven't seen it yeah here's this maddening array of moves and so I had a I had a little I guess a set list okay I would go in i go in one day and i try a trick try try try trick and then make one mm-hmm and then try another and try this other wild move just a couple times to kind of get the rhythm down not make it not make it come back the next time continue that one yeah make it try another not make it go back on purpose I tried yeah yeah yeah in order to get it into your next time there you go and that's how that worked hello how long did that take to film the whole thing blacked it out of it they made the ramps inside the warehouse and when you make ramps inside a warehouse there's sawdust every snow yeah a little bit of it so for the first two months get a shot of that three months there was no it needed to be professionally cleaned straight up cleaned by professionals Wow he was so so slick so there's a couple tricks in there that we're done when it's unscalable slick in there and the tricks actually show how it was so slick the the back noseblunt and back 5o shove it that that's one of them and then fakie big spin five Oh big spin was supposed to be fakie big spin 500 shove it oh but it was going big spin because it's so slick they were just staying here just kept it yeah yeah so DC came about after fallen after fallen kind of went under you went to DC yeah well Fon didn't go under it fallen there Kendall there came a point where I I had a tough choice because I outgrew it oh and so as much as I actually do still love it mmm I still I do of it but basically if if you put a ceiling at you know nine pairs of shoes but you could sell 20 okay and you're like well why are we still making nine because the company couldn't invest that much right more - they could they couldn't safely invest that much more but I could if they had a larger distribution they could but there was Sketchup specific they they didn't go outside of that realm and they were very precious with who they sold to well yeah which is what made it really cool - okay right but I out I helped grew it so I had the tough decision of like what do I do headed Jamie take that when you uh had to tell him he's a smart dude so he I'm sure he saw it coming a long time before that I and I'm pretty sure he was the one who actually said yeah you outgrew it mmm you guys got pretty big when they ride the sky came out that's probably the height of how big the company got yeah and then they kind of just went down from there yeah I think I think you're right i think ride this guy was like that was a big video firing yeah I mean that that video part is the one that I'm most proud of oh yeah seriously that's the video part where everything in there is how I wanted it and done to my liking sick there was always that one trick least one right that video part for me didn't have that so I'm just lucky to have found one video part and my wife that didn't that seriously the new blood part though was that was [ __ ] gnarly well thank you really yeah yeah were what when that came out was [ __ ] that was crazy dude that's awesome footage of him I'm like oh that's that's gnarly you just had a real scream part drop oh yeah it's right that's right a real Street yeah you're gonna go vote for yourself these are we doing right now for you man how long did you say you were on phone for I didn't so then you went to DC and then how long were you uh when you went to DC were you you then you went from zero to plan B right yeah yeah what was the what was the reasoning behind that well what's going on there you didn't have a board sponsor for a little while right that's right I didn't have one for a while I wanted to make sure that I was doing the right thing the right thing okay I don't want to I didn't want to jump around right I'm not a mercenary we go try on your own brand I didn't want to start my own brand but I did want to get something out on the market for people that like diehard fans that wanted my board mm-hmm-hmm I wanted to get something out for them yeah oh yeah and nowadays it was it's easy enough to do that alright same time I feel like Paul was doing his thing yes so Paul had done Paul had done the gold board mm-hmm we made the blackout board okay it was just it was an all-black tiger-stripe like coal board so and you were selling those we personally we sold them through my website through your website they were bareback boards okay and then yeah shipped like a lot of them got shipped through the skate shop ring and then a bunch of them got shipped through me actually packing them at bareback in like you know putting the weibull's on yeah yeah bringing the weibull's putting the weibull's on and uh yeah we it was an all-black board and so it didn't make any any other sense other than make six hundred and sixty six of them Hey Wow opening theme we did it must be a good feeling to know that you have no board sponsor you make 666 of a board and then people want them you know well I made six hundred sixty-six boards of myself I would sell to its own audience yeah at l9 you know yeah and I'd have to give the rest away I see I don't I don't believe that's true because your reach is so far but you're willing to ship internationally right yeah which we do Raja yeah Raj will ship all of them now you could have helped you going down to bareback you knows how to do it this is before the ninth okay no but seriously though it must be a good feeling to know that like totally do wow like people like this is great the other thing that's really cool in the same vein yeah is I look at a lot of people's Instagram accounts a lot of other skaters mm-hmm there's tons of [ __ ] comments oh yeah like a lot of [ __ ] comment there you go my comments section and the people that follow me are generally really positive yeah and I'm like very very appreciative yes of that and I feel like that is bred from being myself bill I've always wanted to just be me mm-hmm because and maybe it's not some master plan but I do feel like being myself will only bring the fans of people that I would kind of hang out with anyway yeah cuz that they'll get along with me and I'm not acting some role that I then have to keep up with because that takes a lot out of here to have to pretend to be this person who I'd rather just be me you like it cool we would get along totally and so the comments are super cool and I'll talk back and forth with people through social media yeah because they're usually rad people then you respond a lot to social media comments and everything or do you yeah I do DMS and all that stuff yeah I try to it's crazy much as humanly possible yeah I mean you do have to come in and with an angle mmm otherwise the comment gets passed up a bit and I mean yeah because it would be a straight up more than full-time job oh if you comment on everything the ones that catch your eye the one that use your eyes oh yeah so if you if you DM it just says yo it's gonna get passed up yeah yeah like that's a lesson but you know my brother-in-law saw Kobe Bryant at at the move money cup right in Orange County yeah and Security's turning away people from shooting photos mm-hmm Kobe's from Philly yeah so my my brother-in-law Mike is like a man from one Philly guys to the next you think I can get a photo and Security's like nah man you can't in Kobe got up he's like all right so we got let's do this he came in with an angle yeah Lord see let that be a lesson for your DM there you go come in with an angle yeah but what if they all start coming in with angle then you're gonna be [ __ ] awesome I mean yo I hope we helped me out with coming in with an angle of it's something else yeah and that was incredible what they did it's a lot of work responding to everybody you know I need to be get better at it too like I'm not a big you know it's like I look through the dm's and I'm like oh my god this is just nine club ones overwhelming a ton of PM's we get an email we're very appreciative of it we're very and we tell people all the time like we read everything you know and whether a collage or Kelly or myself like we read we go through them but if we can't respond we can't it's just it's tough you know yes a lot and that sucks too because I do read when I post on social I read every comment there you go see we so then I feel bad because some of the some of what they're saying yeah I just I don't have time to respond to it but it definitely filled up the love bank right right yeah it was positive and I'd very much appreciate it but I didn't have time to hit it it's funny cuz I think about the same thing - after I've gone and looked through ten DMS I'm like yeah I probably could have responded to nine of those you know I had I had two times about a hand emoji the emojis they're rad but to me is still a little impersonal you know rather just another type out a thanks exclamation point or something you know yeah yeah I don't know not to say that I give it I give the hand emojis a lot I'm just saying I always put like a little a thank you hey yeah right let's go back to so you see we're selling the the the blackboards 666 of them yes and then how did Plan B come into the picture Ryan Denman did you have your eye even on Plan B at the time or were you did you have your eye on everybody to kind of see like mmm do I keep sell my own boards I don't know like I don't Lee don't want to put off the the vibe down - cool yeah right I don't want to that I don't want to do I don't think you play it but I think that there are there are bigger pegs to fit into a program mmm-hmm okay which make it a little you definitely narrow the lanes that you can go if you are a new guy who just burst on the scene and don't really have a catalogue no one knows where you're at yet and you're moldable yes so when you come in with a history of doing a lot you are you yeah and no matter where you go you will be you absolutely so it makes it a lot harder to fit you into a program when you're your own thing god yeah yep yep I wouldn't have it any other way yeah we don't try to change your whole thing a bit something that you yeah exactly I would never but so you're not gonna write pretty GK well it's well what's funny is coming into plan B although graphic why isn't I didn't fit but I liked the dudes on the team yeah and I love the lineage of that brand there you go and so yeah make sense I said I could I could still do me yeah over here because over there I mean it's a whole bunch of Me's over there yeah you know each of those dudes is their own thing yeah so it actually worked out quite well grace yeah and then I our direct my own stuff anyway oh you do okay oh so you give them ideas or do you actually do the graphics a little bit of I will give an idea and a a sample like mood board of said idea like maybe in this graphic style something that looks like this these colors whoa okay involved you honor went yes yes back then it started to take shape and then you can narrow it in it's tough though because they come out with board graphics all the time dude it's a circle burn that's gnarly yeah and I made the mistake of keeping at least two forward I've ever had that's what I do Wow I keep to me Jamie give you all your board when you left the zero yeah well I had been collecting them all the time but he was expecting for you at the same time yes so it was that's that's why because chief did that he he would save boards for every single every single board he would save - for the rider hmm - four black box little and so that's how it all started and so you get a ton of boards and now I have all this wood that I'm carrying around I've got like 40 board boxes cradled with boards so now I'm my god [ __ ] I kept the graphic on a rectangular sheet of paper in a thin black frame to put on the walls the same I know it's not the same in a wouldn't like I mean if you were ever gonna sell your collection yeah it's not gonna do the same right but that's a considerable weight to be sitting up in your attic robust through your bedroom did you hear about Chris Cole no all his boards fell on top of him while he was sleeping no but it's it's very it's just cool to have all your old [ __ ] you know it's very sad III kept a bunch of shoes and stuff being sick well dude I I sound like you're in a good place right now you know good skate career yeah also - you're doing some commentary huh doing the dabbling into the the etn stuff you're doing little commentary with them and yes speaking has become a thing yeah taking a little bit of some job opportunities away from me you know I've been uh what's going on there hey no I love what you do oh thank you I'm just better at it Wow okay no here's the thing though is you are really good at it you see thank you here's the thing is like I look at like people like what you do on etn and and and what crisp Astra's with like vans Park series yeah and all this stuff and uh you know the Phoenix am whatever and I'm like that's not me I could never do that like I'm not that guy - name it off track - name off tricks and to keep you know what I mean like I'm more of like the color commentary like this is the guy yeah interview or makes no jokes or whatever so it's not a one size fits all right I'm talking on a mic totally we're talking on a mic doesn't mean oh man well you should be interviewing people right maybe that's not your [ __ ] maybe you're just great maybe you're a [ __ ] Sal Masekela Yeah right you can you can call it as it's happening with feeling really really well hold and send to commercials bring back from commercials that was a crisp Astra sighs I'm sitting there I did two of your Phoenix am with them and I'm looking at him like I don't know how you're doing this bro like this is I would never be never be able to do that that's funny when when somebody like zitzer sits next to a Jeff rally and myself Jeff and I are talking color commentary yeah how about what's going on on the course but we need is it sir because zitzer can wrap it up will this person be able to edge out so and so like find out when he's really good yeah he's really really good and that and what people don't know is they're counting in your ear yep you have you have headphones on and there's somebody as he's saying all that and wrapping it up there's somebody going five four three two oh yeah one layout and that's it you know he's through that speaking oh yeah it's Narva I when I did Phoenix am too like I would be just commenting on somebody's pants or something cuz I was just kind of bullshitting or whatever and I'd be in mid-sentence a bi cut to commercial I'll be back and yeah the guys picked them and they Chris so we're gonna we'll be right back and Lowell I just thought it was hilarious every time you open up your mouth you need to know how to get out of it it's like driving your car really fast or you have to look around and make sure that there's all the surroundings armed because you may need to figure it out all the time it's a motorcycle not only the escape route is you you need to know how to like put something into a sentence very quickly because you know when you come on the air you only have like 24 seconds that's a 24/7 24 second clock comes on that's all you know what do you mean long like long four seconds is like you've got a while you could really like do bleep damn you see to me to me I'm like that's not long enough I need like twenty four minutes ten seconds 15 seconds those those things happen more often yeah where it's really wrap that thing up right but you have to nail it but also I need to tell you why Tom asks is now a heel front crook yes so damn sick yeah yeah I got ten seconds to do it so somehow and here's another spin on it too is like when you do the etn stuff you have to figure out like okay this guy's trying his trick liability for an hour how am I gonna fill up this hour yeah well that's what happened to Tampa I just did the commentary oh you did it so I did a good job for me well I did I did commentary with with sit sir and Andrew cannon a Tampa and that was a different deal altogether totally you're not speaking to the web and the people that are watching the broadcast the audience you're speaking to the audience that are in house yeah so you're calling what's happening during the run not just the tidbits that make that trick hard but those and keeping up the stoke for seven hours the more you do it the more you you know you you find these little things it's like when I I did battle the barracks mian like me Mike Mo did it live that was tight thank you bro did you watch it or were you there no I actually watched you watched it I was away and I remember I remember I was in I was in Mexico I was in the West own and like Playa del Carmen and I was watching it at the dinner table on my phone no way yeah interesting it's the same I fake you same thing there's like we would be talking to that it's loud in there though so whatever but we would do we came in we came in for a rehearsal yeah I'm sure it was loud a tip came in we came in for her so we had to do the whole dry run and like just kind of [ __ ] and whatever and then we did another rehearsal where I do my best work but that's what I'm saying by the third time I told the IRA who demands a show an IRA I'm like IRA if I ever do this again I'm not doing the rehearsal I'm coming in straight away and and freestyling it because I already went through my best [ __ ] and now I'm trying to outdo yourself and I'm trying to relive and I'll do and and I and and now the jokes aren't coming out the way that I normally it spit him out I didn't go to one day of that in Tampa mm-hmm and zitzer was like a man I got you don't worry see have you watched Paul fill in for somebody else my very witty he's very funny okay he'll know it it's really [ __ ] funny cuz though he'll throw to this person and then he'll act like that person and throw back to himself so it had all [ __ ] funny the whole time interesting about the barracks is a lot more planned out I feel like very planned out maybe this will make sure that all the camera cuts are good and then like there's certain interviews in between very planned out but even when I did Phoenix a.m. it was the same thing like I had to go there a day early sit on and sit in on their meeting and I think just making sure that all this stuff works so just kind of fill you in like this is what we're doing this and even even though the enzyme wine yeah even then I told [ __ ] I told Chris pastor some like dude I could have flown in this morning you could just stop you know it's more my style I don't like to prepare I just like to go that's great free stuff it seems like you really enjoy doing it though it seems like this could be a new I do everything I really like doing it yeah I like doing it because there's only one place you can do it mmm right you can you can always skate you can see the streets yeah in film video parts and do all the things that you started skating for in the first place mm-hmm and commentary is just there's one place to do it yeah yeah it's fun though you do a great job I hope I want to see more of you I think you and me would be good together you know you could be the guy who's calling the tricks out and I could just be the like a bullshitter I love procedure I actually have a I have a very good idea I'm not gonna say oh yeah we should talk about this after we'll talk thanks for coming dude we can even get out of talking no let's stop I think we'd be great I think we could we should do something yeah I need some damage yeah going back to the old podcast thing we were talking about and your commentary you know you you're actually coming you're you starting a new little podcast huh I am okay so I've been I know that everybody has a podcast nowadays um I know that everybody yeah it does it's like it's the joke but um I actually have been working on this podcast for oak whale oh yeah and it's not what's the prime suspect it's um it will be me in a like-minded individual okay that right now basically based in music okay because I figure that you guys do a good enough job skate yes you guys do a great job we try I mean I talk about skating enough I've been in skating enough yeah you guys do a good job why saturate the market with another skatepark I think out of me yeah okay right that's stupid right cuz I would I would rather just be here with you guys I just let you know I would listen to if you did talk about skateboarding well thanks you for sure but I basically I started going to all these shows and I go to a lot of shows yeah and I and I and like I told you my my uh my superpower mmm-hmm music and so I have this this really strong bond with music and I started meeting musicians yeah in getting along very well with musicians okay and realizing oh man they're just another side of the same coin there you go I pick skating they pick music a lot of times they grew up skating and I'd hear all their stories so I was like oh man like I want to have a casual conversation back and forth with these dudes and that's basically my podcast is casual conversation slash interview also if musicians yeah and how do you do you just you know these musicians or do you just reach out blindly to some people because now you could just reach out on DMS and stuff and totally try to get people oh um thus far it's been dudes that I know and so we started yeah yeah and so it's been dudes and I know but it will contain you to go further to people that I don't have a personal relationship with yet yeah those are the best we'll just basically hash it out well it'll be yeah it's I feel like you know there are certain certain situations where you find yourself in like face to face with with like a hero I'm a musician like I was eating with my friend Toby and he is the frontman from the band h2o and so you find yourself sitting at a table with Scott Ian from anthrax oh yeah and you're just eating lunch with Scott Ian from anthrax and your huge anthrax fan right so that degree of separation isn't far at all totally dudes here for lunch did you ask him do you like hey man I'm starting this podcast you know and I've like I fully have like talked back and forth with like Randy boy from Lamb of God who who skates so sick and like I've talked back and forth but I've never mentioned the podcast yeah well because I don't want to be like hey where's like well we barely know each other here's the thing though here's the thing though that I've come to realize because it's like you said everybody does have podcasts and I think everybody yeah people are you know if you if you reach out to people and DM or just mention every ask also to like people are they want to come oh come on dude this these type of things home you know like people are into these things like which is great yeah but I mean you guys have a proper setup you better bring in [ __ ] heat when you have a dude on right I mean Weezy F baby sits here right you better know what the [ __ ] you're doing we do your podcasts out already are you still working on that out yeah see that's different though because he has no he hasn't heard it yet though the thing you know after after it launches true you know if they deem it good then you start to get people that at least that can reference it right now it's definitely a hey I know you there you know me right this is what I'm doing as a bro let's do this together sure that's how we started also especially for a cat conversation yeah you know for a casual conversation style podcast you kind of want that sort of dynamic you know definitely so you've recorded a bunch of them already yeah okay so you're not you wanted to get a bunch in the can there you go I don't want to get backed against the wall now that was my next question are you gonna do them every week or I can do a season or how many seasons okay yeah because I still do have another job we could talk about podcasts all day I can't wait to see to it I was all tuned in I'll be subscribed for podcasts oh yeah we should do podcasts on podcast well if you ever let need me to be a gastric or a guest host I'm not musically inclined so no guest hosts I can be very funny though the podcast that has podcasters talking though yeah they're suddenly bit about how to podcast the podcast for podcasting better yeah no but if you ever need us do a full videocast - so is it a podcast it's a [ __ ] yeah it is a podcast cuz it's available on podcast platforms you know where anyone a lot cast yeah so but are most of your hits via podcasts or because people play it and then just listen to it and play YouTube and just walk away and let's do it yeah is that how it's me a lot of people do it a lot of people like how I've done it but someone hear something they want to see it then - yeah go back and watch it and I think skaters are very visual people - you know like how could we do this show without having video crew yeah you know in all the years things of you doing interviews and stuff and people are just reading them you know or they'll just do or some somebody will do a video piece on you and you're just kind of answering questions they're not being presented you're not having a conversation yeah people get to see you now interactive interact and it is nice to interact because although it is a skill to form the question into your answer yeah and that works great for certain sort of promo videos first they say hey what was the best what was the best day skating in your whole entire career and you're like you know what I think the best day I ever had exactly it's like although that works for some part is nice to have it it's nice to have a conversation company yeah and you're good at it so that I think yours your little do we know name for it or do we know maybe we're not releasing that casual conversations are critical oh yeah I mean I like all the C's though I don't know if we're allowed to okay will be so we'll be surprised but I don't know [ __ ] it I'll walk it down it's it's kris kohls common ground kris kohls common ground yeah excellent listen is there anything else we need to cover before we wrap this up I mean dude we've we've got all this [ __ ] over here there's a lot of [ __ ] you're a you're a very sentimental guy I feel like you were looking at the magazine with my board graphics and you like old [ __ ] yeah we're talking about the 80s stuff the Phillies just won the World Series right there so I'm wearing I'm wearing a respect the champs shirt oh is that kickflip tailslide or something 505 oh yeah switch back on that's your spot how many covers you have are we are we are we add required yeah you're had two buyers got too big hey what about CCS covers I got them too Jesus can you add them all up happy I actually don't get coverage that much I get clever is when it makes sense like this thing had like a full thing okay and then I've had like the main interview skater of the year like the main interview from magazines and not gotten the cover yeah like I had like a main interview of Big Brother okay and there was a monkey skateboarding on the cover that was a real thing that's big brother though yeah brother so that's true that's true make sense easy easy we beat out by the month right and the skater of the year yeah in skater of the years I'll get the cover four and then back to the Berg that was one that was one of my favorite covers which is just I'm holding the picture of me doing a back three I just held up my bloody hands right and they put a photograph in the center oh well but that there's a funny story on the front blunt okay is it's a full baker maker the actual make is it that's why you never saw it because it's full Baker maker but I broke I broke my trucks and my mic boards on that thing Wow and I've run this one dr. Scholl's insole of my shoes especially back then I've been running it since then and it's this one that has a green it has a green plastic arch support so that when you primo you have this plastic piece that protects a little bit interesting and I broke the plastic piece why didn't that yeah of my insole Wow thing in half crazy I break a lot of [ __ ] actually I've broken wheels broken that happened before so you're a big dude you break a lotta regulatory side I've I've ripped my boxers in half like fully in half well I think that just means you that front board and I lived alone front board at the end of my Dino apartheid oh yeah I sacked that so many times I ripped my boxers leg off yeah besides so random glad I don't have these problems on manual pads Jesus Christ he's sort of smashing counters oh yeah yeah yeah but I bring you a pass but on purpose manual pads are super frustrated patience that's manual pass oh yeah I graduated what year was a skater of the year yeah to to to the five into the nine is anybody else that repeated like that Danny Way how'd that feel you won twice won twice it was awesome I actually didn't think the second time was gonna happen no no and when and it's funny because the you know the the area code comes up yeah as Laurie code pops up on your phone and live yeah you see it and you're like oh myself like if what was funny was I still didn't expect even when I picked it up into his phelps yeah I was like I wonder what he's gonna tell me about this because I didn't think that I got but skater of the year twice dude that's an incredible that was a good ride a bull and a compliment i sued i'm something i'm really stoked on what was it it wasn't back-to-back years it was it was the years that my wife was pregnant with our kids I wonder why were you going hard just I mean because you had a kid come in and you needed to go for it that's exactly what it was seriously yeah because I thought I'm about to have a kid like my schedule is gonna and also there's gonna be two months okay at least two months where I'm really jammed up there so I would overcompensate for two months of like being home and helping right by going a like overboard and I had motivation for to put on for my family you know yeah and so that's totally what it was crazy it was a you really did it but like my wife called me and she was she was 19 at the time like we were married and she called me when I was on king of the road and told me that she was pregnant with our son oh wow and I remember I was behind vertical urged escape Bart in North Carolina and I was trying to do a like a finger flipping to fakie over a spine ramp okay and it was like I mean king of the road it's terribly grueling and then I found out that my my girlfriend was pregnant though and so I drove from North Carolina back to Philly that night Oh seriously yeah and then they and then the team went up to Philly and met me in Philly yeah oh did you guys win king of the road that year we want yeah well bad yeah well I should have known Chris Cole you're a winner I mean you show up and you give a hundred yeah for sure and right I mean they're terrible challenges yeah you know kick with rollerblades on things like that you should have another kid here three times no I can't no would you ever do the but chug no no there was always say there was always somebody else for the for the get the Don Rickles or like all of those challenges and mine were my challenges weren't make out with the chick with the Slipknot just like my each of my challenges were the skate tricks it was yeah that was kind no I back heels and the how funny was my forties and stuff how funny would it have been if you went home to your girlfriend you know her being pregnant with the dog wrinkles oh yeah yes and and the history of Hey I made out with a mom and daughter [ __ ] but you're pregnant this is great yeah I can now we can start anew yeah that king of the road is done we start over yeah ride BMX when you grow up he's like fully into it right yeah what's it called a cult cult yeah so you yeah you just like BMX yeah I just thought it was cool yeah like you know what happened was a friend of mine after we were at a bar had his bike with him okay and this is years and years after I stopped riding a bike okay and the like the sprocket was like super small and the bike was light and the bars were wide and the seat was down so it it was like a skateboard like it wasn't it wasn't a casual ride around the city like it wasn't a transportation bike ride is a trick bike like a skateboard yeah we're not long boarding around the city it's a trick machine there you go and so he had me bunny hop on it and I immediately got hooked I was like holy [ __ ] I'm hooked Wow and then I started meeting a bunch of BMXers Robbie Morales and Dakota and chases and all the dudes sick and I started meeting all these dudes and they were they were the same as we were as skaters they were just out there trying to get the same type of Stoke just a different apparatus hmm doing the same thing mm-hmm and it was different enough but similar enough that I had such a fun time riding and gaining inspiration of skate tricks via how they rode a spot whoa so then the opportunity came up where Robbie was starting cult okay and he's like hey would you like to help help start this branch say [ __ ] yeah have you ever been at a spot riding the BMX and gone up for a grind and have a skater yell at you for grinding no but I know but I do ride plastic pegs that's a thing I was always wondered why they don't make those damn pegs out of like truck material or something so if you know how to grind on they are there you won't [ __ ] up a legend all know if you know how to get into a grinder okay thank you yeah Wow how do you do that Roger dude yes so like the dudes that rip uh-huh eh the wax a wedge yeah so they're not just friction try rubbing it right I mean that's don't drop in like a nice like they'll drop in a 500 like generally like without pressure and then slowly drop the pressure on to the grind shoes just like a skater would not just yeah into a Smith grind you have to jump in and as your body's still like weightless of it yeah you position and then you drop in you just kind glide into it yeah so and now we have classic sleeves that go over the peg oh and I still don't [ __ ] with techmakers real yeah yeah that's like copers okay I don't I don't jump on people's ledges yeah guy won't jump on ledges only because I'll drop in hard okay because I don't know how but flat bars and stuff I'll do yeah it's interesting yeah because of the even just the sound of them okay it's it's why you're piercing it's pretty rough especially when a dude will do I can up-down ledge that's not at all see that's the thing it's like I even feel like just that sound alone like makes a skater go like you get the [ __ ] out there you know what I mean like as if we have the right yeah literally destroying the ledge for everybody totally [ __ ] yes true it's super just true yeah you know what but you do the same damage if you all ate up and smashed down your trucks no dude I don't give him a list I grew up skiing Trabuco Hills High School and biker there would be bikers and roller bladers and skateboarders there roller bladers made everything perfectly I see all good skaters we're just grind it down bikers would just ship it and two drunks yes exactly what it is still it's like but it still happened he's so happy you know what's cool at certain spots when the BMXers and the skaters have a really good relationship if there's a bunch of different ledges at the spot oh yeah and then one of the ledges has kind of rough like rough ground around dedicated to that's what the oh yeah well we'll just stick to this legend and you guys have that we won't bug with that yeah then you're like dude awesome for sure yeah back in the day Chaffee would be like left side with skaters and right side was Julie there you go dude that's sick but you know the bikers don't want to go to street spots anymore I feel like oh hell yeah well I haven't seen any strip bikers at like a Ledge spot in a long time you know what Carlos I'm not digging if it where people kick them out aren't you know they're cool they're know they're cool they're cool they're cool um you know what it's they they get [ __ ] buck they do it's it's wild but I think that maybe the spots that we skate just aren't gnarly enough maybe because they're wedges are real [ __ ] yeah I mean dudes dudes are like there was like a a half a page photo in ride magazine of a dude doing a manual down Hollywood 16 straight tire ride man like it was a half it was a half a page why yes you know I mean I yeah it's it's like that well you know what's crazy too is that they have a bigger like they can skate along or they could bike on grass and hit a Ledge right no no for them to is it yeah they don't like doing that yeah well keep it real X caters yeah dude totally well being we can't even we can't ride on they they can land on grass so but they don't want to take off from ground oh it's all so lumpy and weird but uh but you know the ledges that go straight out at how we would hide that that like are on the front side by in and out yeah yeah like Garrett Reynolds did like a nosegrind 180 and you and and you and on grass yeah don't land on concrete so we don't really [ __ ] with that wedge as skaters but they can land on it it's interesting it's dude it's pretty sick I wish that we could do that well I I respect a lot of bike yeah it's it's a gnarly thing to sit under that bike up and and to slam on those bikes I mean Jesus there's so many little holes in the frame you could get your extremities different caught in it's a different slam they they slam like first so they let the bike take it and then they'd [ __ ] whereas as skateboarders we kick the board as far away from us as a lowly yeah so that we can just take on the ground Malone you can't do that with a bike because if you throw it bounces yeah yeah comes right back happen and it's [ __ ] it'll come back and you'll get like you know just your your hub axle will hit you on the inside the knees oh you're not walking the thing is though is that like heli really hates body no I don't mind them but like we're at a skate park like you're at a skateboard park that you're always at and they're there you want crap when they Hale no you don't want to crash you know yeah that's that's wouldn't so sorry I don't like him but it's they scared me when they're at like certain places I've run into bikers at a skate park when I was a kid I ran into a dude he was wearing a full-face helmet and I hit my face on his helmet knocked down my front teeth Wow it's like that since because you're trying to avoid pegs and bar ends because you just don't got you yeah right like yeah the dude doesn't have like a bar end and it's just like an open metal piece you're getting gutted that's not there's a lot of weaponry been her situation going on you need to yeah account for my brother I took the handlebars to his spleen once it would work oh oh we're just ruptured it and Jesus Christ see that's why that's why Kelly's like I don't like it because dudes rupture their spleen yes I'm afraid for them you never really seen Kelly get mad but he gets mad at bikers voice I had to turn his levels down his voice you know no but seriously dude like this have been amazing bro you get please do come back anytime seriously be careful what you wish for no you be sure say be great to come on the experience the experience I want to talk about news and skate [ __ ] and we take some phone calls from people it'd be great dude it's like love wine I totally yeah well I know you just came out with the x-games real Street butter we we expect a Chris Cole part in the near future maybe dude I mean I'm you working on anything I mean I was working on that Plan B video no no I was working on that real Street okay so now I just wide open yeah yeah that's a wide open canvas and now I just got a figure out where where it goes okay I don't like to just film apart and then just throw it up where no one's gonna see it okay people are gonna see your heart dude they'll see ya I wanted to have get at least 666 views you could never you could never figure out how how many people have beautiful [ __ ] because I just cut it as that no but we'd love us see another Chris Cole part man drop the line I know still radio AM what do you want from me you know I mean what wait what do i do do I theme it should it be a theme depart should it be a curved uh its steam it sure your age I had a ones book you know like tree trunks right I have thought about they're on a curb part oh yeah three major that'd be great read you should right now they're hot yeah and so art but I can't sloppy so there'd be none of that no three huge slappy I don't know no it just seems like an excuse to break your truck okay I I'm kind of the same way yeah I saw you smash and now might know my truck sir we don't smash though now that sharks are going left oh yeah expert you can't be heavy into it you just ride right up that's true Rogers pretty good at attack yeah yeah it's actually pretty impressive I want to know I want a lesson will do inward heel yeah and at that that's pretty yes pretty it's great right Oh amazing is our yards artwork yeah Apple here was the first dude and I'll just keep it going these story please Apple here was the first dude that I that I ever met in my entire life who was attached to nothing what do you mean like he was just weird we were in Auckland New Zealand mm-hmm and we were in this we were in the hotel room and he had this is like the sickest a part like you remember the Appleyard that like burst on the scene and was the hola hell yeah yeah we are right certain at 2:04 Appleyard right oh that dude kept at this is flip out burger this isn't burst on the scene out but yeah this is sorry Apple yes still this is sorry Appleyard yeah Anna and he has all this sick Volcom gear and he's got this roller bag and we're about to fly home from Auckland and we're in the hotel room and he has he's wearing like an Oakland A's hat he's not from Oakland he just doesn't like he's from Toronto but he's got no allegiance to anything he's highly thought was cool right turns out he like he like looks at his bag and there's like his complete and all of his clothes and he's like about to zip it up and he's like yeah and he just leaves yes walking out like yeah he's just weaving the entire roller floor clothes just like yeah [ __ ] it no way nothing was sentimental you know it I was floored that's anim rest like wow the student doesn't give a [ __ ] and I want to have that seriously I need this shirt or that because I would love it yeah I need those pants totally he none of that just that's incredible and then also there was no like home base oh yeah because remember he went to Cayman Islands for Wow yeah yes yeah you just move move about Wow wander meander that's dude happy it was so say was cool right kind of like how he does his art kind of like I'll [ __ ] it freestyles it yeah no he doesn't sorry that's amazing isn't is that a great that's mean rush yeah sitting at a desk Kelly you come to - oh yeah draw something I actually that's please much pressure no no I'm sure what would you draw that's the pressure I don't know what I would draw I am I can draw well are but not I can't draw well enough that I'm gonna do something absolutely beautiful so it's right in that middle ground where I can draw - good for you to throw it on a mug but not good enough for you to throw it on a mug right like if full Sistine Chapel I like that full Sistine Chapel finger right that would be great I'm not gonna do that just know that there's a space on a mug that will always be there for a shirt okay maybe I
