balers Gate 3 uses the 20-sided die to introduce an element of chance and uncertainty into the game relationships combat or even opening a door could come down to just dumb luck but what if you removed that random chance element and changed every outcome to a one can you beat balers Gate 3 as the unluckiest man in the world because rolling thousands of ones in a row is statistically unlikely for everyone but shadowart for this challenge run I'll be using a mod which forces my attack damage initiative ability and any other type of rle I do to always be a one if you're wondering why a mod like that exists and who asked for it surpr surprisingly I have that answer it didn't exist and I asked for it after speaking with some understandably confused mod makers an awesome individual named yum created for me in just a few hours so that's the explanation let's begin with keni men having already lost the genetic lottery I figured they would be the perfect candidate for the unluckiest man to have ever hatched for role-play purposes I went with the cleric of vth because if there's any God which would allow such Misfortune to fall upon her disciple it's her waking up on an alien spaceship would already be the unluckiest day of most of our lives but for our hero it only gets worse because because we meet a fellow GI soldier who rushes us blindly into a battle that we alone cannot win knowing I have no way of Landing any attacks right now I fled to a nearby gate Devourer who saved our lives trying to free shadowart proved impossible confirming that the mod is working properly and with that I took lel's advice to leave her behind using Sanctuary I slipped past the devilkin to activate the nautiloids controls while LEL practiced her skydiving after Crash Landing The gak's Vessel this left lel's body on the beach allowing me to recruit her right away feeling a little guilty for abandoning her I approached shadowart to invite her to join the party but I soon learned that when you only roll once she's a racist who refuses to join a GI Yankee rescuing Gail went about as well as you'd expected to and although aerion did try to kill me it had nothing to do with luck so his opinion could be changed him joining got us to level two and together we headed to a nearby settlement to get some help from the so-called Good Guys of act one but as you'll see soon when you're as unlucky as this man is you get a very different perspective on the people of the Grove upon arrival I witness brawls in the streets murder of defenseless prisoners and further prejudice against Outsiders like myself all without being able to influence any of it when we bumped into Shadow heart again she accuses us of following her rejected me for no other reason than my race and my lack of Charisma left me unable to convince her to join usually an invitation to meet with a leader is a good thing but these people's leader only did it to force us to watch a child's execution and demand that I break the news to the parents and when even the local doctor poisoned me held me hostage and refused to let me go I accepted there could be no friendship with monsters like this having went through hell my party hi tailed out of there and into the wood exploration got us to level three and we found a cute abandoned dog normally you get unlimited attempts to read this dog's name tag to comfort it but for this challenge it appears my character is also illiterate so no dog for us from here I figured the Goblins may be more willing to accept an ill-fated GI Ally on the way to their camp we experienced a massive migraine Shadow heart suddenly showed up saved us with a polyhedric ganki device and pulled a rather suspicious 180 by begging to join us this time a little strange considering her previous actions but Beggars can't be choosers then I entered the camp and killed laelle to save her life because of if you long rest after visiting the Goblins Camp LEL pulls a knife on you and you need to roll a two to avoid conflict by long resting while she's dead it bypasses that cut scene entirely that same night brought us Withers and using him I reworked my party so I could actually use spells that don't rely on random chance spells like Spike growth magic missiles and shatter can never miss but they still deal just one or two damage on every hit back in the camp the Goblins welcomed us with open arms they offered us free beer invited us to play chicken chasing games and after a bit of rough housing even agreed to kiss my feet another Goblin indoor asked us to interrogate a criminal for them giving us full credit for a job well done the drought leader minara was so impressed that she offered us a chance to join her in raiding the barbaric thiels who attempted to poison us earlier and we happily accepted before battle I purchased doomhammer a key weapon for this playthrough which still deals one damage and prevents healing on the target even when it misses then return to the gates of the Grove where the Devils nearly impaled us with an arrow sick of their [ __ ] I pre-cast Sanctuary blew the warhorn and opened the gates for my Goblin allies to pour in the battle ended up being completely one ided you don't need luck at all when it's 30 versus one their child killer leader did give us a slight challenge but she too would fall to our magic Missile barrage this Victory brought my party to level four where I struggled for nearly 15 minutes to decide on a feat after realizing all of them don't really do anything most of the Feats in this game just influence dice rolls in the end I took one that allowed me to equip Shields that night we had a celebration with our Newfound friends took a well-earned rest and in a shocking twist my sleep was interrupted by Menara not in a lucky sexy kind of way but in a murder me and my sleep kind of way who could predict a psychopath can't be trusted I genuinely forgot that this happens pointlessly tried to talk my way out of it failed every role and forced a battle which I was woefully underprepared for it took every spell slot I had plus 20 rounds of dealing one damage per turn using the doomhammer but the party survived this unfortunate Ambush just like high school my attempts at friendship ended only in betrayal and death but unlike high school I had a gith gamer girlfriend at my side LEL insisted we find our own people in the area who might not treat us so poorly we found them they still treated us like trash but they gave us a new Mission retrieve The gith yanki Relic and return it to a nearby crash we knew Shadow heart had such a device and that night LEL and I confronted her about the artifact she harbored yet she refused to hand it over we agreed to discuss it in the morning only for shadow heart to pull him inara on us it all makes sense now this was her reason for joining all alone to kill us in our sleep not being able to convince her to stand down aeran and I took lel's side to put an end to this mess truly aerion is the only trustworthy non- male on this planet with her death we claimed the artifact of our people and spoke with Withers to replace that betrayer with a child of GI but before we could complete that mission we needed to show the Goblins that you don't mess with blackett's chosen magic missiles massacred the Goblins gate guards and a spike growth fog combo created an unavoidable blender for idiots to walk themselves into an early grave pushing deeper into the camp we eliminated the remaining leadership and while speaking with a mind flare corpse I was jump scared into combat for a moment I really thought this thing came back to life to kill me as a special GI Yankee only interaction but no it was just a stray Goblin Revenge had been repaid and with that wrapped up I made a shoing trip to the mid Colony for a magic Missile buffing amulet after telling the salesman our life story he invited a mine flare scumbag to taunt us from the Shadows I knew vth would want us to kill it but let's just play out how that scenario might go when we have no initiative or ability to roll a saving throw yeah that's not going to happen it's your lucky day mind flare whose name I can't pronounce having further disappointed Our Queen we needed to locate a crash and fast a nearby baby boomer would be a prime candidate to ask for directions she counter offered demanding gith Yankee eggs in exchange for the extremely secret location then played the you people card which clearly Lazelle didn't like when this Karen called us beasts we could no longer tolerate her casual fantasy racism and cut the conversation short besides the crush was already marked on my map after she died anyways too weak to operate the lift controls we took the scenic route to the monastery thanks to ilod power stacking on a Starion his damage will One-Shot everything he hits as long as it has less than six Health allowing for the greatest magic missiles the world's ever seen to level us up to five normally level five is a massive power Spike for builds offering potential for up to 40 eight damage Fireballs but for this party best we can do is four a short jumping puzzle later and at long last we'd found our people surely nothing can go wrong now that we're among them as newcomers we were ordered to report to the infirmary for a medical checkup we honored our beautiful Queen's portrait along the way and greeted this lovely doctor she instructed us to sit in the chair and began the procedure saying it didn't go well would be an understatement the chair exploded permanently reducing my stats and she blamed me afterwards holding us in the room as prisoners lockpicking this door could never work so I cast the knock spell to get it open only to be attacked by another doctor now last time I blamed it on racism but this time I have no excuse for a moment I considered if it could be us that was the problem but lelle didn't seem to think so she blamed them called them traitors and suggested we report their bad behavior to the crush Management on the way there I made sure to say hello to my evil twin before meeting with The Inquisitor he ignored my complaints happily took the Relic and summoned Our God Queen vth she gave us a super special secret mission should this task be a success we were promised Ascension the lifelong dream of every G Yankee this was the luckiest day of our life lives she ordered us to go inside the prison and kill an enemy of the people without hesitation we agreed stabbing her right through her torso leading to an instant game over just kidding unfortunately what actually happened is that she tricked us while explaining that she can't be killed we returned to fyon with the bad news only to lead to the 99th betrayal of the day luckily I did this challenge back on patch 5 so by using the darkness spell I was able to survive combat even with my terrible initiative rules ducking in and out of the darkness allowed me to pick off enemies one by one until Only The Inquisitor remained with him defea I spoke with lelle who explained this was not a betrayal by our Queen but actually a test having only six Intelligence on my character sheet I believed her hoping to avoid further conflict I headed to the back door where I learned that if you miss using the grease spell on these statues that nothing happens so I had to use a bomb to loosen it up rotating these statues solved the puzzle revealing a secret door and the blood of lathander clearly this Crush had sinned beyond all salvation and stealing this weapon would Doom them all enacting a Sweet Revenge so I did exactly that leaving aarion behind to be crushed too because it's funny and he's revivable as per normal at this point we awoke at Camp to someone standing over my bed ready to end my life the traitor Voss had come to sway me against my own deity instead we took him out in attempt to regain our Queen's favor battling the Undead on the mountain roads got us to level six in addition to clearing a path into the shadow cursed lands it's kind of funny that if you've killed everyone you've met along the way here there's not really anyone telling you what you're supposed to be doing now with that in mind I killed the first goblins who greeted me nearly got game overed by Shadow hounds who chain feared me for eight rounds because I literally can't roll a saving throw to save my life and a few humans Escape From The Curse as thanks for doing so they led us into a magical glowy light bubble where their leader vined me on sight the in-game dialogue option greatly expressed my exact feeling at this moment my only option left was to pray to vth for help and with that true Soul Marcus arrived lying out his ass pretending to be my friend not knowing who the hell this guy was I questioned him as to why he did this his answer let's betray these people together look I've been down this road betrayal just leads to betrayal so I betrayed him before he could betray us hopefully putting an end to this betrayal Arc Marcus put up more of a fight in this playthrough than I've ever seen his vampiric drain spell reduced our health while restoring his and our gray pars dpsers couldn't keep up but by using the doomhammer I was able to block his self-healing just enough to kill him before he team wiped us Isabelle thanked us for saving her life and showed us a picture of cth so we would know just who we're dealing with she blessed us with the Salo night's gift and asked us to be the heroes who stopped the absolute cultists feeling bad about the damages I caused in her bedroom I agreed to help out but after being woken up every night at Camp it was time for a good night's rest is what I thought lelle seemed to have other ideas woke me up and challenged me to a GI yane love duel I'm pretty sure they don't normally go like this but because she couldn't hit me I won by theault in the morning we followed the Harpers into an ambush on a lone drider robbing him of his Moon Lantern we freed the pixie trapped inside and she granted us immunity to the shadow curse I still don't really understand why the pixie has this power but the slite God doesn't but I didn't write The Game's plot pressing forward we waltzed right up into moonrise I was a little confused when the guards told me Menara is waiting inside I knew that can't be possible because she's dead as expect Ed she wasn't here but somehow Krick knew who I am and I guess he was somehow happy with my previous actions where I slaughtered the entire Goblin camp this whole interaction was really weird having successfully infiltrated the base of command zerel gave us the location of Bazar and instructed us to help him but before that I needed to eliminate most of moonrises guards this decision had little to do with story it's mainly that my computer gets about three frames per second if I do the battle the normal way clearing some of these enemies out got us to level seven and the extra spell slot it provided would increase my magic missiles damage by two yep just two clearing the rest of moonrise proved to be tedious as it would take nearly all of my spell slots to clear each room and our party topped it all off with an accidental prison break I didn't realize that casting Spike growth would activate these levers taking a shortcut through the local hospital on the way to find Bazar ended up being a poor decision what with every doctor we'd encountered up to this point being easily triggered this time too would be no different a quick kill would be a lie but the doctor offered no real challenge with his death it was time to enter the Thor Mausoleum and descend into sh's Temple while trying to reach Bazar Char's Shadow guards got in the way sling them got me level eight as well as another useless feat Bazar is too fat and lazy to complete the gauntlet of sh so he asked us to do it for him for once I was actually excited to see what might happen in the self-same trial and when their first attack they issued missed I thanked vth for her blessing but when budget aerion blasted us for nearly half my health in a single Fireball I realized the power of God in anime was not on our side through hard work and perseverance we triumphed over the cheaters said screw it to the other trials and use knock to open the final door inside the shadow fell I jumped Bazar using silence this vents him from summoning his Undead minions and when combined with Spike growth it's like shooting a fish in a barrel with the Dead Man Down we set free the Night song to begin our assault on moonrise Towers I wondered why to hear I was waiting outside turns out I'd forgotten to kill one enemy here earlier this final foe put up an admiral defense on the rooftop Krick winded like usual the Night song walloped him and the rest of the enemies exploded in ilth Magic when he fled into the mine flare Colony below we pursued him and had a category 9 gake infestation on our hands as per vet's protocol we purged the N FL filth extermination was more challenging than usual due to the guaranteed stuns mind flares land on every hit unbelievably when saving the prisoners lives they got mad at us and tried to kill me afterwards the final lives in this Colony gathered around in Elder brain and we waited in the shadows for them to explain their entire evil plan out loud before entering battle with Krick the smart thing to do would have been to spread my party out but since I didn't do that on the first turn a mind flare stunned us all we were able to recover though and freed the Night song to carry us I was very glad she was here though because kthr took no damage from anything I did krick's armor blocks the first two damage taken and if you're bad at math when I'm doing two damage and you block the first two damage often times that's zero when Krick went Merkel mode on us the battle got much easier as he' lost his armor blocking trait Night song basically soloed phase one and we handled Phase 2 once his armor buff was lost along with Victory I claimed Krick netherstone invited jira and the Night song to our camp then hit the road to balder's gate one more failed GI Yankee Ambush helped us reach level 9 and resting in Camp attracted more uninvited guests our cute keni dream visitor opened a portal for us to help save her life but upon arrival we discover we've been catfished it's really been a disgusting gake mind flare all along he begged us to trust him to help him but we refused his Alliance and fought both the enemy monks and this mind flare during this fight I recalled the racism weed experienced on the way to get here and decided I'll give the guy another chance plus I wasn't really sure if the game could still progress if you attack him here and I learned that you still can for now the emperor explained that he'd been helping us all along by draining the power off of The False Prince orus next he offered us the chance to become nasty athit like him my main character made sure to never absorb any of those disgusting tadpoles so we were able to refuse his offer to turn ugly without rolling any dice in our camp vth herself approached us with an offer for lelle to ascend and become her right-hand girl all we had to do is kill orus kind of unlucky that I'm also a cleric of vth and she literally never acknowledged me once in that cut scene I anyways congratulated her and promised to help her in this Mission our goals in balder's Gate were clear defeat the chosen claim the nether Stones eliminate the brain and find a way to slay Orphus the City Guards would not allow us entry so We snuck around the side and paid a visit to the devil Raphael Raphael explained that he had the means to break orus free long enough first to gut him in exchange he just wanted the crown so he could do some devil stuff but that's not our concern we signed our lives away without even reading it and obtained the oric hammer a drunk flying elephant offered me a job in the city and gave us a ticket to freely enter gort's keep around this time Aion requested we make a visit to his former Master with him being such a bro up until this point I of course agreed he fib to his old friends to get us inside we did the Monster Mash through some bats rats and werewolves to confront Cazador himself I got completely dumpstered don't know why I thought I could just walk up to the vampire lord and fight him when I'm doing a challenge run that was really stupid I reloaded the save I let him come to me through a choke point use daylight which deals 20 damage without rolling while also having 100% hit chance and combined it with the spike ability on the stairs thus completing my kill box he fell to Superior Tactics and not luck the way the game is meant to be played aerion approached his former Master took his shirt off like instantly and engaged in one of the most violent boob fill cut scenes in the entire game not getting demonetized showing any of that with this complete he ascended to become a master vampire a powerful Ally like this can never fail so I immediately sent him into a stealth Mission but even Master vampires still roll ones during this challenge kind of funny to imagine that scenario after stopping a killer we took his job claimed two innocent people's hands presented them to the murder Lord and helped aerion become an Unholy assassin never realized how much easier it is to be the bad guy here the way I normally entered the sewers was blocked by a wall that I couldn't damage no matter what I tried the back door Garden entrance had an unpassable perception check and failing the speed check at the Thieves Guild entrance forc combat instead defeating these thugs brought the party to level 11 I used their ring to gain entrance to the Thieves Guild and casting knock opened a door to the sewers it also pissed off the entire Thieves Guild and nearly wiped my party but aerion was able to flee the battle just in time to get out of that scenario approaching the door to Ball's Temple prompted roughly 100 failed perception checks we used Ball's amulet to open the door and challenge Orin on aerion's first turn one of the unluckiest bugs I'd ever seen happened Orin jumped me during my turn knocked me prone and cancelled my turn also his vampire Mis form looked cooler than usual and came in clutch to keep him alive you probably noticed by now that aerion's basically the only one doing any damage on my team so as per usual he blasted Orin down with a laser light show with Orin dead and her nether Stone in hand I snuck into the steel watch Foundry sent a Starion on a solo mission to claim the key and with it delve deeper inside to plant a rune powder bomb the bomb was able to trigger a large enough explosion to exterminate the entire steel watch with the steel watch out of the way it was time to confront Gort I had purposely avoided meeting him all this time just to see what it would be like to fight him in the main hall and I was really glad I did because Gort was the toughest Battle of this entire challenge thus far he started this fight with Duke ravenguard at his side by moving gort's own bombs I was able to take out ravenguard as well as most of the other enemies but having used all my spell slots to get to this point I was forced to use divine intervention a one-time cleric spell that basically gives you a long rest during combat fully healing your party and resetting right after that Gort turned Super Saiyan mode doubled his health pool and went immune to bombs fire and most importantly magic missiles the one ability that's been carrying me the entire game after 26 rounds of combat and 1 hour and 13 minutes of my life Gort fell during his own turn dropping the nether Stone and revealing the location of the big brain boss before saving the world I made sure to rob a bank and make my Getaway on a boat while surprised by several intellect devourers they pulled some rather questionable attacks making us m level just in time to fail every role against the Elder brain looking quite pathetic while doing so without us asking our mind flare friends saved us again and brought us face to face with orus we explained to the emperor that we have no intentions to trust him anymore in response he took credit for literally everything we did up until this point and left to go join the enemy using Raphael's Hammer we broke orpheus's chains I barely talked LEL down from immediately killing him in vet's name and he agreed to turn into a mind flare to help us wield the nether Stones against the brain his only request is that we end his miserable mind flare existence afterwards pretty favorable terms to an alliance if you ask me together we returned to the upper City ready to face the final challenge we took the path through the sewers smashed the death knight mini boss and reached the spinal cord to ascend the brain now earlier I said gorach was a tough fight it was nothing compared to this I spent several attempts trying to fight these enemies straight up but it was impossible these four M flares are immune to Magic missiles and if they hit me once ever they keep me chain stunned until death because I can't roll saving throws even if I'm immune to all damage taken they still stun me so all this time I'd spent doing these quests to gather a million allies for this fight ended up being worthless using invisibility and darkness together I was able to cheese my way into the portal section of the game where that too was absolutely brutal this turn timer here on my screen that says you have five turns to kill the brain that is a lie I'm not sure if it's caused by my abysmal initiative role or my cheesy entrance strategy but I only get three turns to do this three turns to deal 300 damage while rolling ones and since Orphus doesn't roll ones I made the executive decision not to use him it took haste sport speed potions and 78 magic missiles straight to the dome but through sheer willpower alone aerion was able to beat the clock before a game overc screen appeared the ilod Empire had been defeated gravity brought us back to the city for LEL to complete her execution of orus together we rode into the sky at top Red Dragons for an audience with queen vth with our Ascension ceremony taking place I had completed the challenge proving you can beat balers Gate 3 while ruling only ones and the story of the unluckiest man to ever
