my name is Stanislaw Robert Luberda with AV-Ultra and in this lesson we're going to be talking about transitions in Final Cut Pro 10 and how you can build your own in Apple motion to use in Final Cut inside Final Cut Pro 10 in your transitions tab there are a lot of different included transitions if I go to my blurs I can kind of look these over and see what's happening what you may or may not know is that all of these are pretty much built with motion and then saved for Final Cut just like our generators or our titles I have a selection of three different transitions that we're going to make in this lesson if you're looking at how to install these please check out my quick tip lesson on how to manually install some of these titles and transitions and generators and you can find that link to that video in the description below otherwise let's talk a little bit more about these transitions so if I play this back right now you can see that all my transitions are working great I have all these clips that are smoothly transitioning from one to the other that's because all of these files all these video files have handles on them so what exactly are handles if I click on my lesson 16 no handles you'll notice that I have those same four clips and all of them are 4 seconds apiece and if I drag one of my transitions over it's gonna give me a little pop-up that says there's not enough extra media beyond the clip I'm gonna hit cancel so what exactly does that mean I'm gonna go back to my original one if I take a look at all of these clips and if I double click right in the center of them you can see what's happening is the clip is actually this long and this long but we're only transitioning from this point to this point that means there's extra media on either sides those are considered handles and if I stretch this out you'll notice the maximum I can go is as much media as there is let's double click that to close it I can scale this back if I go back to my no handles and I drag that on there what that's basically saying is hate there's none of that extra media on either sides of that so let's go ahead and click cancel and I'm just going to pull this back to two seconds a piece and now if I drag over this transition there's no issue is because there's that extra media that we just pulled back so that way it has some more transition to in case you're ever wondering why when you slap that on there when it says there's not enough media to make this transition if you hit create transition that changes your overall duration and that's something that you probably don't want and if I double click this now you can see what it did was it automatically trimmed both of those just like we did here so now that that's out of the way let's talk about building these transitions if I go to any of my transitions that are included with Final Cut or my AV ultra ones I can scrub over them and I can get a preview of what that looks like if I want to adjust this I could right click it and open in motion or I can reveal it my finder if I reveal it my finder that's gonna take us to that same folder that might covered in the quick tip of how to install them so you can see exactly where they're stored and if I open them up I can actually open up that motion transition so let's talk about those in Apple motion if I go to Apple motion I click on mu we're back to our project browser and now we're gonna focus on our transition and if you'll notice right away it says creates a motion transition use this type of project to create and publish transitions for Final Cut and what I'm making my transition there's something that I'm tend to do a lot is I'd like to make them about a second long transitions are really meant to move from one thing to another very quickly you want them to be as quick as possible typically I'm actually creating these in 4k for this lesson I'm gonna be creating this in 1080 and depending on where you are you can change this to pal or NTSC for me I'm doing it in North America so I'm gonna have this at 2997 and one second now we're gonna go ahead and click open and what we're looking at is a transition in motion if I scrub through this here's what's happening we have section a and Section B and really that's all transitions are we're moving from one clip to another now these are very special kinds of layers these work like drop zones what this will do is whatever is in transition a is going to reference it's our final cut clip a and anything that's in B let's say here will be referenced in the other side of the transition because these are drop zones there's lots of things we can do with this the only thing we really care about is covering this section right here so we're going to focus on creating these three different transitions and publishing them into Final Cut so that first transition I have is a bit of a diagonal white and what I'm going to do is I'm going to zoom this out what we want to do is we want to cover the screen completely right at this midpoint so I'm going to create a new rectangle and I'm gonna make this fairly large we want this across the whole timeline and I'm going to turn it and scale it now let's go ahead and put a move on it and we are going to move it to this bottom right corner as it moves across we're gonna want that to move a little bit faster and it looks like I'm going to need to make this just a little bit wider because we need it to cover completely at this point as I'm moving across here you can notice that we can still see this green here this next section is where the red begins and now that will wipe completely between those two just to make this a little bit more interesting I'm gonna make this a little bit smaller and let's go ahead now and make it a bluish color and what I'm gonna do with that rectangle is I'm just gonna duplicate it and we're gonna take this duplicate we're gonna make this a little bit shorter and we're gonna start it a little bit later I'm gonna change the color of this duplicate to maybe a darker blue and as I move this across there's one and there's two so right now if I publish this here's what's gonna have you're gonna have a and B both visible and we're gonna see that hard cut now it's a little hard to see exactly what's going on in these transition a and B if I want to I could put in little placeholders to see exactly what it's going to look like and a lot of times I'll just use a couple images so I can easily see that so I'm gonna drop this into transition a I'm gonna drop this into transition B if I play this back you can see right here that it's changing so what I need to do is I'd need to make sure that this rectangle overlaps completely and this whole screen is filled so we don't see that overlap so if I make this just a bit shorter now I can see that that is likely going to be covered if I make this a little bit wider I play that back there's our white and now before I'm all done with this there's a couple other things I want to do if I want to go to my rectangle and I'm gonna go to the fill color and I'm gonna publish that I'm gonna do the same thing with my secondary color and I'm also going to go to my project and just rename them color one color two so now if I want to save this I'm gonna go to file save as and I'm gonna call this two color white and I'm putting in my AV ultra category and under theme I'm also going to go to put it under color wipes if you don't have a color wipes you can name it whatever you'd like you can choose to save a preview movie and what that will do is play back little preview but I tend to not do that because it tends to take up a little bit more space and I don't like to include the unused media so I'm just gonna hit publish and now that I have this published we're gonna move back over to Final Cut and take a look at it and so under my AV ultra there is my two color white here's the one that we originally installed the only difference I have here is I added a drop shadow to each of those rectangles and here's the one that we just put together so if I grab this and I place it here there is our two color white because we published those parameters I can go up to my colors here in Final Cut and change them to whatever I'd like so that is a quick simple color white now let's take a look at using something like this to mask out our layer so I'm going to come back into this and we're going to get rid of these rectangles we don't need those and instead we're gonna do the same kind of concept but just use two circles and I'm gonna go to beginning of my timeline I'm gonna make this large enough to fill my screen completely and let's go ahead and make this color deep red we're gonna call this one circle one and I'm gonna go to the properties what we want to do is by the time it gets halfway we want it to be filled completely with the screen so I'm gonna go ahead and take my scale and put a keyframe there I could also use a scale behavior but I tend to just use this for ease and quickness and if I play that back there we have our scale I'm gonna go into my keyframes and we're just gonna finesse those keyframes right click let's make them as y-a and I want to highlight across all of these because if I just click the keyframe you'll notice that it's only picking one transformation that's not what I want I want all of them so that way they're uniform I'm gonna drag both of these busy handles I'm holding on to shift to get them to go smooth so now we have this kind of speed up slow down so great so far so good but now we don't see our secondary transition B we don't see our second layer and that's alright so we're just gonna make this circle of reveal a different color just so we can see that and right now you can see it's just one circle and then the other so what I'm gonna do is I'm going to pull back this transition be just a little bit and same with this circle reveal let's zoom that back in so we can see what's happening we have right now is this circle filling the screen to about there and if this wasn't here we can turn this off we can see this is where that flips to the new image now I have this secondary one wiping on and I want to use this to erase this red circle so I'm making sure that my circle reveal and my transition be are lined up because once this erases it I want to only be able to see this this transition be and so if I take this circle one and right click it we can add something called an image mask go ahead and add an image mask and right below circle one now you can see image mask and there is an empty well here for that if I drag this circle reveal into this image mask right now you can see it's doing the opposite of what we want it goes red and then it kind of turns into another circle so basically we're seeing that purple circle act as this red circle if I go to my image mask and I invert that mask now if I play this back we have it white so what I'm going to do is I'm going to add a drop shadow to my circle one and let's go to its shape and publish its color as well if I go to file save as AV ultra color wipes we're gonna call this one color circle point and publish now if I come back into Final Cut right away it pops up in here if I drag this into my timeline so I'll just replace this one here and there we go be taking a look at is something like this so right now I have a bunch of blinds coming in and it kind of reveals that next image under it let's go ahead and I can right-click this and open in motion and here you can see we have a couple different things going on I have a rectangle and I have a replicator and a sequence replicator and underneath my transition be is I have that image mask so what I've done is I've created this rectangle and then I've scaled it across time and across my sequence replicator so if I go to my sequence replicator you can take a look at this and adjust the item you can see it is a line so let's get started building this and let's just make rectangle I'm going to zoom this out so we can see this a little bit better and that's all I'm making right now and I'm gonna go to replicate open my inspector and we're gonna change this to a line I want to be able to adjust that so I'm making sure I clicked on my adjust item and I can take my start point here my end point here let's change this angle and go back to my rectangle and let's just make that a little bit longer and I want a few more of these so I've jumped back into my replicator and remember we basically want to be able to just fill the screen completely because we're using it as a matte white so now that I have my replicator let's go to our library behaviors replicator sequence replicator and if you have questions about the sequence replicator or replicators check out my other lesson all about replicators it is amazing tool that lets me create a lot of things very very quickly in motion that normally would take a little bit longer than other programs there's my sequence replicator and it's gonna ask how do we want to do this well we want to add scale we're scaling from 0% across and you know what let's only do one of the scales let's change the Z back to 100 in the Y to 100 so now it's really just kind of growing across so now what I've done is I've moved my transition a and B to completely fill my timeline and I'm gonna use this transition B and we're gonna right-click and add an image mask and we're gonna take this whole replicator group so if I take this replicator and I drag it into the image mask so now if I play this back that's building on and we're going to go ahead and hit save as and I'll call this our replicate mat and I'll hit publish come back into my final cut and there's the original one I put together and now this is the one that we just put together as a group a couple last-minute things I want to talk about here so if you want to get rid of any of these maybe you're not so happy with this one you can always go back into motion and edit it otherwise you can go to reveal in finder and I can actually take all of these and just delete them if you're looking for some more transitions to get started with I have a pack of five free transitions that are built on other packs that I have for sale check the link in the description below and you can download those five free transitions to use in your projects or you can use to analyze and rebuild your own any way you see fit again my name is StanislawRobert Luberda with AV-Ultra thanks a lot for watching and I'll see you next time
