My name is Stanislaw Robert Luberda with AV-Ultra and in this lesson we're gonna be talking about using Apple motion to build custom effects for Final Cut Pro 10 in Final Cut Pro we have a series of different effects that we can drag and drop onto our different Clips so as an example I have a bad TV effect that's included with Final Cut Pro if I'm scrubbing through this timeline you can see I have my bad TV effect and I can kind of dial in just how bad I want this TV to be I can add a bit of a roll and if I want this to animate I can set some keyframes however it's kind of limited to what I can do I've put together another effect called awful TV awful TV gives me a lot more options that I would normally not have available and that I can adjust any way I so choose so let's go ahead and get started if I click on file new from project browser that's going to open up our project browser that lets us choose what kind of project we want to make in the past we've made Final Cut Pro titles transitions and we've typically made motion projects that we've exported out as a Final Cut generator in our situation today we can go ahead and click on Final Cut affect our duration doesn't necessarily matter although for our purposes I'm gonna leave it as 5 seconds and click open when we are creating effects this is very similar to what we have in our Final Cut Pro titles we have a special drop zone called the effects source what our effect source is is a drop zone that we can drag in here and basically anything that we do to this effect source is going to be applied to whatever video we have in Final Cut as an example I've placed my aweful TV onto here and that's really affecting my title here I can go ahead and turn that off so you can see that difference in an effect source is only available in a Final Cut Pro a fact project and we're just gonna open up our AV ultra 24 Start and this is technically a composition and that's gonna be fine for us for right now once we get started we have a drop zone that I've placed a file in right now and the reason why I have this in here is because I want to see and preview my effect before it goes into a final cut so I can kind of fine-tune things and whatever its gonna look like in here is basically the way it's going to affect my footage in Final Cut we have our group and I'm gonna call this effect group I'm gonna go ahead and I'm going to go to my library and go to my filters and add a bad TV filter to my drop zone and what that'll do is the same exact thing that the normal bad TV does in Final Cut however we're gonna add a few more things to this and publish it as an effect in Final Cut you'll notice that it does the same thing as this where our role isn't necessarily control additionally with old TVs we might have a bit of a fisheye and we might have some over saturation and color separation I'm going to add a few more filters to this and then we're going to adjust it go to my library and another filter I'm going to put on is called the glint and I'm gonna place that on my drop zone as well and you can see that that's blowing out a V ultra and some of the other whites in here and we're gonna leave that for right now so now that we have this bad TV in this glint effect I'm gonna work with it just a little bit more I want to decide what things I'm gonna want to be able to change or publish what I want to bring it over to Final Cut in my bad TV there's a series of different things I want to be able to publish I want to be able to publish how much static there is there I also want to publish color sync my saturation number of scan lines and my scan line percentage and then my mix so if I come to my project in my project handle my inspector you can see I have all those different things right now there's my drop zone we're gonna ignore that for right now and I have my static that I can bring up and bring down so now I have a series of different things accessible in Final Cut Pro by the way if you're not familiar with how to publish parameters from Apple motion I definitely recommend checking out my other lesson about rigs in Apple motion that you can use to create specialty controls in Final Cut Pro 10 we're gonna go ahead and move on and the only thing I'm going to do right here is I'm gonna change this mix to add TV mix the reason for that is because I want to be able to understand that that is controlling just a bad TV additionally I'm gonna go back to my glint effect and I'm going to publish a few other things I'm gonna publish the exposure the tint the tint color size streaks lastly the mix and I'll go back to my project and now what I want to do is I just want to rename these so I know what they are so at this point I can go ahead and I can start dialing the stuff downs don't want it to be that blown out and I want to mix this down just a little bit the next thing I want to do is I want to add some parameters to this roll by default it doesn't really want to roll and that's something that for me an old TV tends to do pretty often I'm going to go to my roll and right next to our keyframe I'm going to add a parameter behavior and we're gonna go down to wriggle and what wriggle will do is it will bounce that roll back and forth so if I go to my wriggle I can set the amount and I can set the frequency typically older TVs don't bounce around too crazy much so I can turn that frequency down to say 0.01 and I can also adjust the noisiness so the noisiness is just how far it tends to move back and forth and I can change this to 0.02 and I can dial up this amount to about 800 and now I'm getting the slow movement across as it's kind of playing through it's as if it the old TV will start and kind of keep rolling probably change this to a point 1 and now that's giving me a solid seamless roll because I have this wriggle behavior I'm gonna publish this frequency this noisiness the last thing I'm going to publish is I'm going to go to my bad TV and I'm actually going to publish this roll and the reason why I'm publishing this roll is if I turn my frequency down to say zero notice that it still starts right here that may not be exactly what I want so by publishing this roll I could start it say right here and now if I turn up that frequency well now it's gonna roll and start at the beginning on my full screen if that's something I want to start with and I'm gonna go ahead I'm gonna rename this roll start position now I have a number of different items that are going to be published into final cut another thing that I want to do is I want to add another parameter behavior for this waviness it's great that I've got this waviness that creates a jagged look but it's not necessarily the best because it's either all or nothing and sometimes it's a little too much I want to randomize this waviness so I'm gonna go to my parameter behaviors and this time we're going to hit randomize what randomize does is the amount I choose will randomize how much of that waviness will happen this is something that I could publish again so if I go to my project and I have my amount I want to go ahead and rename it right away and say waviness amount I'm just gonna turn down some of these parameters just so we have something like that and this is looking pretty good but it doesn't really have that overscan look that old TVs tend to have so we're gonna go ahead and we're gonna close this effects group we're gonna turn it off right now we're gonna make a new group in this new group we're gonna call a map and inside this bump map I'm gonna go to my library and under my generators we're gonna pick a stripes generator and place that in our bump maps right now we're looking at a series of lines and I'm gonna turn those and I'm gonna open it up in the inspector go to the properties rotate this 90 degrees I'm gonna stretch this out one way and then the other I can see that my stripes don't start until this frame because I was previewing things and that's okay I'm gonna go to the beginning of my timeline and hit I and now because I had my stripe selected that is where it's going to start we've got these stripe and I want to work with this a little bit if I go to my generator you'll notice that I have this Center and if I move this axe it's going to move up and down now the reason why it's moving up and down is because we had properties turn so this is actually moving the x coordinates and again what I want to do is I want to kind of automate this a little bit so I don't have to add keyframes and I want to be able to change it on the fly so I'm gonna add another parameter behavior and we're gonna go back to Riggle and now under Riggle you can see it's bouncing like crazy and that's way too much I'm gonna just turn this frequency down and to say 0.01 and we're gonna turn this noisiness down to 0.02 and we're going to increase the amount to 100 so now I have this kind of moving scan line that's going up and down I want to be able to adjust both the frequency of this and how big these stripes are so I'm just going to publish this parameter going to my project and there's my frequency and I'm gonna say scan line 3 and I'm gonna go back to my bump map my stripes and under my generator I also want to publish a size the last thing I'm gonna do in this stripes is I'm gonna go to the properties I'm gonna change the blend mode to an additive so if I turn on my other project you can see what we've got here and it's gonna be moving across there to separate rates and that's perfect I go back to my project project panel for my published parameters there's my size I'm gonna say scan line size and here I can kind of dial things down something like this so what are we gonna do with this let's go ahead and open up our effect group in our drop zone and there's one more effect that I want to place on here we're gonna go to our library filters and we're gonna go to something called a bump map what that's going to do is it's going to apply a bump map to our drop zone using some other layer as a source take this drop zone and place this bump map on here if I open up the inspector it's waiting for it and I can say hey use this whole map group and place that in there so I can turn that off now you can see what it's doing is it's I turn this bump map on and off it's adding almost this this weird quality where it's kind of echoing from interlacing and I can turn down that amount let's say to 0.02 so now we've got this kind of movement that's happening here I'm going to want to publish both the amount and the mix so I can turn that on and off freely if I go back to my project on our published parameters we have this scanline amount and scanline mix so here I can kind of bump that up or pull it back to really give it that bad TV look now there's one last thing that I want to do here is I want to take all of this and add a bit of a fisheye effect to it so I'm closing both of these groups I'm gonna make a new group it's just called awful TV and if I take both of these groups and place them in there I can add an effect just to this layer and that's gonna affect everything else below it so I'll go to my library and this time we're just going to find a fisheye effect I'm gonna place that in my aweful TV you can see that that's just a little too much so I'm going to go into the inspector and we're gonna pull back this radius in this mount just to fit it in so I'm using a point eight five and a three for my amount and I'm also going to publish these parameters lastly I'm gonna go to my project and I'm gonna rename these fisheye radius fisheye a mount and now I can freely work with this and really create an exaggerated bad TV effect so let's review everything that we have so now I can adjust this static I can pull back this color sync and that gives me a lot more of this color fringing and I just pop open this radius a little bit more I want the glint to be a little overexposed and let's change that color to a red and adjust the size of this glint to really blow things out and now that's looking pretty awful you can take this scanline mix and just pull this back I just want it to be like a snowy old TV and I feel pretty happy with this so now that I have my effect that's complete I want to be able to access this in Final Cut if I go to file save as it's just gonna say hey where do you want me to put this because this is a composition for right now so this won't be in effect if I save this as of right now so I'm gonna hit cancel as of motion 5.4 I can actually convert this into another type of file as an example I can go to file convert project to effect and I'm gonna get a pop-up that says hey one layer must be used as a placeholder for that effect source that we talked about earlier because I already had this drop zone I'm gonna say yeah let's make this drop zone the effects source this particular image won't show up in Final Cut but it will act as a drop zone source effect so that way anything that it sits on top of it'll be affected I can go to file save as and it's gonna ask me to name my Final Cut Pro effect for my purposes I'm gonna call this awful TV - just because I already have an awful TV that I demoed and it's gonna ask me to put it into a category and a theme you don't necessarily need to use categories and themes I tend to just because the way it organizes things I have a whole nother video talking all about how these things get organized so be sure if you're looking for information on that check that out otherwise I'm gonna go ahead and hit publish now that I have that publish I'm gonna go into my final cut go to my effects and there's my AV ultra effects because this was the category I put it in and under my theme of retro wave there's my awful TV too I roll over this I can see that there's my preview of it here's my awful TV one my glint that set just a little bit differently and I'm gonna drag this and place this right onto my clip and here you can see all those different effects that I had published are available here for example I can turn off this bad TV mix and now it just has the fisheye and the glint I can also turn down this glint mix and now there's just my fisheye if I turn down this fisheye amount just zero well now there's my regular title I can change all of these different items independently and work with this any which way I want so that's a quick easy way that you can create your own effects in Final Cut Pro 10 using motion again my name is Stanislaw Robert Luberda with AV-Ultra and hopefully you found this tutorial useful thanks a lot for watching and I'll see you next time
