Body Language Analyst REACTS to David Dobrik's HOLLOW Apology | Episode 48

well hey there idiots welcome back to observe happy st paddy's day and boy what a treat do we have today besides another youtube apology video this one is by david dobrik he's been on the platform for almost 10 years has multiple channels and a lot of people follow him he has some allegations that are pointed his way and he decided to upload a video talking about those allegations and that's what we're going to be looking at today i've watched enough footage of him to be able to establish a rough baseline and i am happy to begin diving in [Music] now just as a heads up i have not seen this video yet i wanted to be able to go into this as seeing it for the first time with you so you can see where the limitations are non-verbally while doing a quick speed read so to speak and also so that i can genuinely see it for the first time on camera with you so with that being said let's go ahead and take a look at the footage itself i'm gonna search it up pull it up and we'll go from there i i just hope i hope that he's not gonna be wearing white in this i i don't know but let's find out the prophecy is true ah here we are and it's not white that's exciting looks like he's wearing black before i dive into everything it looks like this is the set of one of his multiple different channels this is on a different channel not his main david dobrik channel so it looks like he's taking notes from dr mike on making sure that his apology is somewhere where it will be less likely to be seen and that's not working because in the last 15 hours or so it already has almost 1 million views so david it looks like people are still quite interested in your apology but what i find fun what i find fun right off the bat is all right guys let's talk for two and a half minutes and you can you don't get to respond he's turned off the likes dislikes and comments of his video which is not a good sign that's not a good sign the fact that he's turned off both comments and the like to dislike side of things means that he's not actually interested in receiving any feedback for his negative actions right off the bat this sets a tone of i'm saving face on this i'm not actually here to pay for what i've said or what i've done i'm not exactly sure what he has said or done hopefully it addresses it here regardless i'm going to be looking for things like nonverbal positive and negative spikes a positive spike as a sudden burst of non-verbal activity where there was none before and the negative spike is a sudden freezing of non-verbal activity where there was activity before both of those signal psychological processing and can indicate deception on certain levels just to be clear in any nonverbal read in this sort of situation there are going to be no indicators of deception exclusively there's not universal deception tells people have tails for deception but there's not a universal tell for deceit so there's nothing like that that i can keep my eye out for nor is there for you i've established a rough baseline to help me better understand who david is and how he acts but that's enough of the precursor let's start watching the video hey guys it's david um i want to come on here real quick and address some conversations that have been going on all right so he's sitting very small in the frame and i know that david is a confident person in that he's been on the platform for a long time and has a lot of followers and that means that you get to be more confident so when they're sitting this small in the frame this is an intentional thing saying hey i'm small i am perhaps vulnerable with you i'm not a threat these are all the subconscious things that are being communicated and oftentimes we will unintentionally do those sorts of things when apologizing we cave in on ourselves to apologize because it poses less of a threat to our inner brain the inner workings of it as we perceive it now many of us have gotten to the point where we can see that and not care if they're sitting small in the frame or large in the frame but it is worthy to note as far as the rest of the setting everything else is fine on the internet um i you know i've made over 600 videos and all right so he has a lot of eye blinking in here this can be seen as eye blocking which is separating him subconsciously from whatever negativity be it circumstance stimulant whatever is happening towards him and then also he has this prolonged eye roll which is the look off to the side i have done blah blah blah it's the superiority side of things so i don't know what he's about to start talking about with his however many videos that he's made but he does feel pretty superior during that moment as is made clear by the micro expressions on the upper half of his face and i've made a bunch of tick tocks vines instagram stories tweets the whole thing um and i'm obsessed with what i do i love being able to make people happy for a living and that's all that i wanted a lot of insecurity gestures with the lopsided shrugging that's occurring there he also has a little pattern where he raises his body up and down and he's gesturing with his right hand and this is all lending me to believe that he's not feeling a lot of confidence right now he doesn't have full confidence in his words which is to be expected in an apology not many people are really confident during an apology nor does it really fit to be super confident in your apology but i am taking note of these little ticks that he has here so that while we move forward we can make sure that we address those as part of his partial baseline that we have do um that being said consent is something that's super super important to me whether i'm shooting with a friend or so he's lowering his head during this time and tucking his chin this is a defensive gesture as well consent is super super important with me so on and so forth and that doesn't lend me to believe in authenticity and often times with influencers who have been on the channel for a while they become so concentrated on the ostentatious quality of their videos rather than on the happiness of the people being involved in them it becomes more about how great is this video going to be as opposed to how are the people that i am subjecting to this video creation going to feel about it if you want a great example of that look at what logan paul did a few years ago and how deranged he became with just needing to create clickable content that he no longer regarded the feelings of those around him even if they weren't willing to be a part of his stupidity he still drug them into it david has some tendencies like that from what i could see from his earlier content from the little bit that i was able to go and look at that and his defensive gesture there and this time also kind of lends me to feel that as well now something that i will bring up is that he is using a microphone and i think that's part of this set side of things but it's also very tactful in that he has a form of numberable shielding the entire time he always has to have his hand right here in front of him which kind of can lend towards a little bit of subconscious self-protection which is great for him because he'll feel more protected as he feels more separation between him and whatever negativity that he's addressing shooting with a stranger i always make sure that whatever the video i'm putting out i have the approval from that person and i also acknowledge lip compression shrugging during that time i don't buy it i'm sorry i don't buy it and to be fair i'm betting that if somebody is featured heavily in a video he might go out of his way to make sure that they're okay with them being in that video but with the amount of content that he's created and the amount of people that are even inadvertently in the video the likelihood is is that he hasn't received the approval from everyone and oh here's a spicy one even if you receive approval to put a video up that doesn't mean that you should that doesn't mean that you should because a lot of people will feel pressured to be like you know what this is a big time youtuber they have a big name and they put pressure on me to be able to put this video up so i'll go ahead and say yes but i don't really want to that happens a lot more than you would think it happens on tv it happens on youtube it happens anywhere where there's a camera most of the time people don't want to be in a video that's just the long and short of it they just really don't want to be but that being said there's not enough to be able to really hang anything on on that front so let's just keep watching the video that those times where a person can change their mind and they decide that they no longer want to be associated and no longer want to be in the video that i'm putting up and then i'll take the video down and there's also a lot of eye blocking right after there so there's some frustration and desire to separate from the negativity you can see the frustration in his eyebrows the desire to separate and the rapid increase of his blinking so there's an instance that he's talking about i'm sure that we'll get around to it like i said i don't know where this video is going this is all brand new to me i've never heard any of this so this is just me conjecturing as we move along hopefully we can figure out where it goes from here been moments where i've looked back on videos and i realized that these don't represent me anymore and they're hurtful to other people and i don't i don't want them up because i've grown you know a lot of hunching up of the shoulders and sinking down of the head he feels threatened here and i'm not totally sure as to why but the fact that he's feeling so threatened us to present this strong of body language when you hunt your shoulders up it's a subconscious gesture evolutionarily speaking of your mind protecting vulnerable parts of you aka your neck back when we were perhaps not as civilized as we are now and things were a lot more brutal the neck was a very vulnerable area it still is but during those times we would learn defensive gesturing to where it would be like you tuck in your head to where your neck is less exposed you tuck down your chin and he's doing all of this in regards to this he feels very threatened on a subconscious level which begs the idea that whatever he's about to address is a big deal otherwise he wouldn't be showing this level of defensive gesturing as a content creator and as a person and i don't agree with some of the videos i've posted um with the seth situation i'm sorry to set nervous burst of energy in his legs you could see them start to move around pretty crazily something's going on here but also to speak on his words it is true that you can put up a video that at the time you think is a good idea or that the information is correct and then later on you can change your mind and maybe come into new information that's just part of growing as a human being and obtaining knowledge as time goes on so that part could be true there could be the distinct possibility that he changed his mind from who he was earlier to now in fact it's more likely than not but i still don't know what's going on yet he's just dancing around whatever question it is and i'm not sure that i'll ever get around to it but we'll see if he's saying anything sincere i don't even know if this is an apology it just says let's talk and there's no comments or likes to dislike so i can't really play off of what he's saying at all on that front so so far he hasn't apologized for anything he's just made a whole lot of excuses for himself which is the worst apology because i like i said i i just want to make videos where everybody in it you know whether you're participating or watching is enjoying and having a good time and i miss the mark with that one okay so a lot of hand clinching gestures this is actually i know that this sounds way out there and almost like pop psychology style of reading but the clinching gestures often are centered around frustration or anger it's very very natural for us when we're angry to clench our fist so we see that happening a few times in there and he's still lowering his head in the defensive tin tuck and also showing the top of his head there and he's also having a lot of verbal stuttering and stammering in and around this so far all that i've been able to establish is that there is a video or videos that he did something extremely stupid and he's very defensive about but also frustrated with the fact that it didn't go as well as he wanted and that's i feel probably the biggest drive here and the reason that i'm feeling that is also due to the fact that he's not allowing anybody to respond to his video here if a person says i'm sorry but then ignores you in real life says hey i'm really sorry for what i did and then they just peace out that means they aren't sorry they don't want to hear from you they don't want to hear from another perspective especially a perspective that might have been offended if anybody apologizes to you in real life and you're not allowed to react you're not allowed to say anything back that is a hollow apology so right now i'm feeling a lot of frustration and defensiveness of him and not a lot of actual sorrow and i'm really sorry i truly truly am um nah and i'm really sorry i'm truly truly am he's so uncomfortable here he has a lot of shrugs he is shaking his head which could be in relation to the negativity of the situation nose can often line up with that here in america this is different culture to culture but here in america yes is yes and no is no that's not always the case but here it is so during this time with the negativity center around it that could make sense but in line with the other things that we just saw i'm not buying that i'm not buying that he's really really sorry or truly truly sorry i'm buying that he really really wishes that this video turned out and that people weren't actually offering flack back at him and with with people in my life that i don't film with anymore um like dom and you know the other people that no longer film with i i chose to distance myself because i don't align with some of the actions and i don't i don't stand for any kind of misconduct and i i'm i was just i've been really disappointed by some of my friends okay so he's still not offering too much of an apology for himself so far he's defended against what he's done he's shown frustration for the fact that he's getting feedback for it and now he's throwing some of his previous friends under the bus as well and he's also still having verbal stuttering during this time which at least indicates that he's not prepping this he hasn't sat down with the script and said i'm going to say this again and again and again and again and again and again so that by the time i go to camera it comes across as the most insincere thing ever that being said here's the danger in apologies is that either one you have to mean it right you you apologize and you genuinely mean it your body language reflects it your words reflect it and it doesn't come across as it's a script for a tv show or two you script it and you don't mean it and it comes across as insincere and rehearsed and terrible or three you don't script it and you don't mean it and it still comes across as insincere due to the body language side of things that's where he's lying he's not lying in group one and he's not lying in group two but he is lying in group three right now and that's just not good news we were hoping for a group one this is where perhaps jenna marbles would be lying she was solidly in group one she didn't script it and she meant it and it came across so wonderfully and we felt it all of us felt it down to her core and sadly enough she's one of the ones that really didn't need to leave the platform but she did and we've seen ones that are completely rehearsed and scripted thank um tana hers was rehearsed and scripted and then we've got this one over here where it's not rehearsed or scripted but it's also not sincere here we have david dobrik let's continue and for that reason i've separated from a lot of them i think with any video i make my main purpose is to make people happy and and inspire people and i just i never want anything to get in the way of that and okay during this time i'm paying attention a lot to his blinking because it is one of the areas that's the most telling right now he has a normal average rate of blinking right most people do now that i've brought it up you're probably aware of both my blinking and now even your own blinking but there is an average rate of blinking then during times of pressure or times of possible negativity his blinking does increase this is a nonverbal spike from his baseline of average blinking rate which he has he has that as most everybody does some people don't there are always exceptions but he does have that average rate of blinking and so when he increases that blinking around a certain area like for instance he's saying that my main goal is to make videos that make people happy and his blinking increases dramatically the question is what psychological reason brought him to the point of needing to increase his blinking be it consciously or subconsciously oftentimes it's a desire to block oneself from what is being said or what's being talked about which can indicate deceit it's not a universal tell of deceit but it can indicate it so needless to say long story short i don't trust him at that point i don't trust that his main drive is just to make people happy his main drive would likely be to make more money as that's what a lot of influencers are in it for and i would be lying if i didn't make videos that i knew would help me financially that's part of the job but that also means that it's not my main goal to just educate people my main goal is to make sure that i'm provided for and then that entertainment and education could come to you that's not what he's saying here he's saying that his main goal is just to make people happy which if that were true uh this wouldn't be a video i'm sorry if i've let you down and things like that won't happen again i'm sorry if i let you down looks away rolls eyes and shrugs he's not sorry he's not sorry and this is even worse he said i'm sorry if i let you down that's not what we're wanting we want him to be sorry for whatever terrible decision that he has obviously made is and i'm sure you can fill me in in the comments below like i said i tried to enter into this with as little bias as i could which means that i have to sacrifice some i established somewhat of a baseline but i wasn't able to go in with all of the information that i would like to have it's a difficult balance to strike that i've had here so let me know in the comments below this video because this comment section is going to be turned on and you can like and dislike this video if you like so let me know what he did and what he's apologizing for but right now i'm seeing that it's something huge i'm seeing that it's something that a lot of people are very upset about and just judging by the words and nonverbal communication that he's showing here it's centered around this idea of he hurt somebody substantially by a video he created that they don't want to be a part of and now he feels like he has to save face he's not sorry for what he's done he is sorry that it's going badly that's what i'm seeing so far let's wrap this up it's not much longer i think we have like 20 seconds left and i learned from my mistakes um and i also believe that actions speak a lot louder than words and you know you can take my word actions speak a lot louder than words that's just an accenting part he's really amplifying what he's saying there with those accenting nods but then he does another little eye roll and hooded blink that's that whole cluster that's happening up there in his eyes where he's heard that line so many times to be sure and he's probably a little fed up with it but he still knows that it's true because it is true actions do speak louder than words and from this point on so far we saw a pretty half-assed apology from david but the real truth is going to be shown by how he handles things from the future how is he going to compose himself from this point on we'll have to see that we can't see that right now let's finish fourth i'm going to change but i'll show you and i'll prove to you that you know the mistakes i made before contempt slipped in there also show you in the corner of his mouth raised a little bit that just shows that he has a little bit of moral superiority in what he's saying here or intellectual superiority in this case it fits more to be the moral superiority regardless he has superiority here or at least he has perceived superiority here which means that he feels like he's a little bit above what's going on here still lines up with everything else that we've seen won't be happening again um but yeah that's it all right i love you guys i'll see you later okay well that was pretty short sweet and to the point i do have to commend him on that at least he kept it short and succinct it wasn't scripted was it genuine not really no from what i saw non-verbally speaking and even the verbal patterning that he used he apologized very little in his video i think maybe like a five percent area of the video was dedicated to him apologizing and the rest of it was dedicated to him making excuses or throwing other people under the bus or talking about how he's a way better person than he was before but not a lot of genuine apology happening there and then when he did apologize it came across as hollow to us because it's not really lining up non-verbally he has too many blocking gestures too many insecurity gestures too many frustration gestures too many defensive gestures all centered around his apology which is why you watching his video would be like this just doesn't seem adequate and he doesn't ever say what he did in this video so i was able to go into this unbiased and from what i could see i don't buy it i don't buy that he's sorry for it i do buy that he might try to change so that's good and as with all youtuber apologies i always believe in giving people chances to show that they're sorry after they've said it so optimistically speaking he'll show that he's sorry but we can't say that for sure so we'll have to just wait and see now let me know in the comments below like i said what he did and why he's apologizing for it and let me know if you agree or disagree with me you have every right to nonverbal communication reading at very best is going to be 70 to 80 accurate it's far from an exact science right now due to the fact that we still don't understand the human mind so if we don't understand the human mind there's no way that we can fully understand the physical representation of just what's going on in the human mind once we can make that connection once we can bridge that gap so to speak then non-verbal communication reading will be at its full power and can be up to a hundred percent accuracy even polygraph tests are not a hundred percent accurate it relies much on the same concept of baseline and spikes but right now we're still limited if you did like this video consider hitting
