think of the best gaming motherboard as the foundation for your future PC your motherboard dictates what your gaming PC can and cannot do it also tells what components you should buy since not all PC parts spit into all motherboards a good motherboard should provide you with worry-free gaming lasting multiple CPU and GPU Generations before committing to your motherboard you must ask yourself how big is your PC case do you want to be able to overclock your CPU do you need high performance Ram support do you need a block of USBS ports Bluetooth Wi-Fi if your wish list increases expect to spend extra this isn't always bad especially if you don't plan on getting a new motherboard for several years nothing we have to consider the most important thing about motherboards future proofing if you're in it for the long haul you need to be sure that your board socket or chipset can support this and preferably the next round off high-end processors when it comes to AMD the enduring am4 socket and x570 chipset is finally phasing out at least since the current Zen 4 CPUs use the new am5 socket with b650 or x670 chipsets Intel's 13th gen CPUs on the other hand are Backward Compatible with the 12gens LGA 1700 socket so a z690 or z790 chipset will do you just fine we have listed the top five motherboards and their key features plus the things you need to consider to help you to choose the best one for you links to all products mentioned in the video are in the description below you can also find a more detailed analysis and a comparison tool on our website ballotconsumer.com foreign [Music] number five MSA Mike z790 Tomahawk Wi-Fi msi's Tomahawk motherboards usually rate highly they tend to focus on a core feature set rather than the premium tier features common to much more expensive boards if the bells and whistles don't matter to you but you still want something capable of driving a demand core I9 13900k CPU then Tomahawk models will probably be on your radar the MSI mag z790 Tomahawk Wi-Fi as the name suggests is part of msi's MiG range its second tier sub brand it sits above the pro range and below the mpg and high-end mag range at 319 it's not cheap though compared to what some premium tier boards are selling for it's not badly priced at all there's top competition from the other vendors and its price range though here for review I have the ddr5 version there's also a ddr4 version should you have a good set of ddr4 memory on hand though if you need to buy memory 2 the ddr5 version is definitely the way to go ddr4 is very much at the end of its life on the 13th Jam platform it's almost certainly its last hurray Tomahawk includes support for 4 and 0.2 drives though pci8 5 SSD support is missing would it be nice to have yes but along with a total lack of pcie five drives the z790 platform requires an 8x8x bit between the 16x primary slot and the m.2 slot meaning it's not something that's vital to have at this point in time a good quality pcie 4.0 Drive will be more than sufficient for years to come much like the good pcie 3.0 Drive Still Remains relevant today unlike some pcie 5.0 SSD supporting boards such as the more expensive gigabyte aorus z719 master with its massive m.2 heatsink the tomahawk doesn't need one sticking with a low profile design that doesn't require lots of surface area the z790 tomahawk comes with 7 SATA ports for bulk storage SATA still has a place and those seven ports alone may be a deal maker for some users some boards costing a lot more come with only four SATA the vrm is a real highlight compared to competing offerings in the price range if you make up a checklist of what you want from a motherboard the MSI z790 Tomahawk should have most of what you need things like usb4 or 10g lamp are what board makers use to justify the price of motherboards costing double the money on the z790 to unlock the checklist is complete for most users Wi-Fi 68 2.5 g Lan a strong vrm capable of handling 13900k lots of USB ports including 3.2 gen 210 tube a solid bios and a discrete design ready to blend in with just about any build theme ask yourself if you need more if you do be prepared to take a step up in price perhaps it's lack of pcie 5.0 and 0.2 supported counts against and it requires good airflow if you subject it to heavy loads but the MSI mic z790 Tomahawk is still a solid feature-rich board that delivers a core feature set which will suit 95 or more of users do you need to spend more I'd say you probably don't number four Asus Rog strix x570e gaming ATX motherboard the Asus Rog strix x570e gaming motherboard is one of the current Flagship chipsets for AMD am4 builds it brings full support for pcie 4.0 including devices connected to both its CPU integrated controllers this isn't the best motherboard for AMD builds but it brings a good mix of features and performs well for the price the Asus Rogue strix X 570e gaming motherboard features amd's am4 socket which means it'll support ryzen 3000 as well as ryzen 5000 series processors you can install up to 128 gigabyte of ram using the four dimm slots on this board this motherboard also comes with a good selection of ports by any standard Asus as included as many as 7 USB 3.2 Gen 2 tec-a ports an optical spdif right a 2.5 gigabyte lawn Wi-Fi as well as an additional USB 3.2 Gen 2 USB C Port you also get a DisplayPort and HDMI Verizon CPUs with integrated graphics districts x570e gaming motherboard also has plenty of RGB connectors and pump headers for water coding most motherboards these days have enough fan headers so that's not an issue here either notably you get three m.2 slots a few SATA ports and even PCI slots for connecting other components like say assign card as a premium motherboard from a reliable manufacturer the strix x578 also comes with high quality components and a grit par delivery system number three gigabyte z690 ioris Ultra starting off with one of the best and most powerful motherboards compatible with Intel's new 12th gen older CPUs the gigabyte c690 or Earth's Ultra it features an industrial design with its dark gray and silver finish which is an update from the previous z590 model the board supports ddr5 6200 OC member of up to 128 gigabyte and the primary pcie times 16 slot offers pcie Gen 5 as standard making it future proof there are also a total of four and point two slots and 6 SATA ports allowing one to have plenty of internal storage as for vrms gigabyte has implemented a 19 phase setup with 16 phases dedicated to vcore 105a ransas SPS mosfets as well as pinned heat sinks for the vrm and two large dedicated heat sinks for the top and bottom m.2 sockets the rear i o is packed with a slew of ports including a total of 13 total USB ports One USB 3.2 type c Port 20 Gigabytes per second four USB 3.2 Gen 2 10 gigabytes per second voice four USB 3.2 gen 1 5 gigabytes per second ports and four you USB 2.0 480 megabits per second of course there's also a display port version 1.4 connector two analog plugs with the SP Dev port for audio Wi-Fi 6 antenna and the Intel 2.5 GBE ports for rgp enthusiasts the auroras logo near the rear i o lights up using LEDs underneath and additionally there are plenty of RGB and argb headers in case you like to bling it up number two Asus Rog strix x670e gaming this is the almost same motherboard as another in this collection by name but it has a very different socket and chipset this Asus Rog strix X 670e gaming is quite the motherboard designed for AMD ryzen 7000 series processors it's got ddr5 Ram support pcie 5.0 and the new am5 socket for food measure the 18 plus 2 stage power design is fantastic for overclocking your CPU especially if you're planning to use one of the non-x AMD ryzen 7000 CPUs both full size times 16 PCI slots support the newer pcie 5.0 standard both times 16 slots are armored and most of the available m.2 slots also support pcie 5.0 so you can upgrade this PC further down the line with faster components the all-black 8 layer PCB is paired with matching heatsinks and a splash of RGB looks as stylish as ever but it's not just Skin Deep you have addressable RGB headers to sync your entire build using Asus orif and is so often the way Asus takes care to include premium quality audio Hardware on its best motherboards overclockers will get some good mileage too on the LED display in the top right hand corner display error codes is a welcome touch there is also more ports on this thing than you could ever use at once as well as Wi-Fi 6E and 2.5 g ethernet it puts a tech in all the important boxes number one gigabyte z790 Aurorus extreme all the flagship class z790 motherboards offer the best of the best in terms of features and specifications but the gigabyte c790 Aurorus extreme presents the best value among them you'll lose a couple m.2 sockets over more expensive boards but this bird otherwise has everything else you could ask for and more while costing between 200 and 400 less than the competition the z790 oros extreme delivers 10 gigabyte ethernet 40 gigabytes per second Thunderbolt 4 ports Flagship class audio pcie 5.0 GPU and m.2 support Overkill power our delivery and the high-end appearance you expect from a high-end board msi's c790 Godlike offers up a few more features like 7 and 0.2 sockets spot costs 400 more and it's also physically bigger making it hard to recommend to most people unless money is No Object the z790 or RS extreme also performed well in our gaming productivity and overlocking tests as you would expect from a flagship board just remember that this is an e80x model so you'll need a case with a bit more room than standard ATX options but you could certainly buy a bigger case with the money you'll save by opting for this board over the other c790 Flagship options so that wraps up our list of the best motherboards hope you find this video helpful and if so please leave a thumbs up as I
