boulder's gate 3 early access is a ton of fun but as soon as you open the game you're going to be presented with a pretty complicated character creation screen and if you don't know what any of these classes are or the races it can be very difficult to make a informed decision in today's video we're going to break down the character creation and the best race combinations for your class let's get into it [Music] today's video is sponsored by no one i don't know subscribe i guess first let's talk about some general character creation tips before we get into the specifics of the classes using the recommended attributes is actually recommended it's not a bad idea it won't min max your character but it's a really good starting point and it gets you a good understanding of what your classes primary stats and secondary stats should be so if you do choose to manipulate these a little bit it just follow the guidelines that it kind of gives you it is a good idea to have a dump stat being a lower stat and then maxing out your primary and secondary each class has a primary attribute and it's indicated by the star next to it so this one should always regardless of your build be the highest stat after that it's really up to how you want to choose to build your character and what the class that you have chosen skills on the other hand are your characters other features and the skills you are proficient in allow you to get extra points into dice roll checks that require that skill skills can be a little bit personal preference but what you should be trying to do is align your skills with your primary and secondary attribute stats for example if your primary stat is wisdom you want to be looking to be proficient in things like animal handling insight medicine perception and survival those are the skills that you're going to get the most benefits from from being proficient in them as well and the same concept goes for backgrounds you want to choose a background that is providing proficiency into some of the skills that you are looking for the background is again personal preference but some classes have better backgrounds for example if you're going a sneaky rogue maybe you want to be the criminal background so that you can get the sneak proficiency something that is a little hard to find in the character creator is how many hit points you're going to have and how much you're going to get per level this is indicated in the class screen under the maximum hit points section so you can have a look here and the highest hp classes in the early access at least is the arranger and the fighter some classes will also ask you to choose a can trip and spells cantrips are spells that you can use regularly without consuming a spell slot you have a limited amount of spell slots that you can use in between each long rest and a typical spell will use these spell slots as you use them they're often the more powerful spells and they should be used sparingly in between your wrists the max level for the early access is level four from what i have seen as each of these classes level up you will gain different things like subclasses and feats and other abilities we're not going to break that down in this video this video is mostly for the character creation itself we will have different class guides coming out to get really into the nitty-gritty of each of the classes and their leveling up process first we're going to start off with cleric clerics function basically as your main party healer and you can choose between a different domain to start off with as well as dd deities don't matter too much it's really at the moment there's a little bit of dialogue options and flavor text that will come from that but the main thing you want to look at for cleric is what subclass you would like the light subclass is basically a spell casting subclass so it will affect some of the spells that you start off with down in the section down below and you can also go trickery is basically a roguelike spells that this will add to your cleric and the last is life which is the healing option for a cleric this will give your subclass extra healing spells that you can use as well as extra multipliers for your healing spells the best race to go for for a cleric in a milly sense would be the gold dwarf for the extra wisdom that you get you also get some good weapon proficiencies which is really valuable for a cleric who don't really have a lot of weapon proficiencies they really can only can use simple weapons so a mace it's a good idea to have a class that can get you some extra weapon capabilities constitution is also important for a melee cleric as well so that you can take a bit more damage if you wanted to go a ranged route the option you could go is a wood elf if you do go the wood alpha out please make sure that you change your abilities and get rid of the strength and actually put them into decks but you can go the wood alpha out and you also get some weapon proficiencies same as here plus the extra one to wisdom [Music] next we're going to talk about fighters fighters function basically as your combat masters in boulder's gate three if spells scare you then this is probably a good option as you won't really have spells unless you do choose a sub-race later on down the line the primary stat for fighters is the strengths that you could go a dex line if you did want to go into a ranged fighter again wood elf would be the option there for the bow proficiency as well as the plus two to dex but for the most part we're going to talk about a melee fighter for a milli fighter the best options that you can go for is a shield dwarf the reason for this is the plus strength two and the constitution strength so you're going to be able to take a bunch of hits plus you're going to get that extra strength for your attack rolls this also gives you armor proficiency as well as some extra proficiencies into weapons but the fighter class starts off with a lot of good weapon proficiencies already but if you go a race like the dwarves you do get the axe and hammer proficiencies but you could also go something like yankee for the extra sword proficiencies and you also get the strength from this race as well so it does really come down to what kind of weapons you would like to use whether you would like to use swords or maybe you would like to use axes for the dwarf route or if you did want to make a ranged fighter then you could go the wood alpha out rangers are the scouts and trackers of the world and they're also the masters of nature rangers can also be merely or range same as fighters depending on your choices you will get some extra options with a ranger here being favored enemy and natural explorer rangers are very good at targeting specific enemy types and that's what you're looking for in this favored enemy this will also give you different proficiencies as well as some may give you a spell like mage breaker which gives you the true strike can trip this is really dependent on what you're going for if you are going for milli i would definitely go the range at night option as it gives you proficiency in heavier armor and in terms of your natural explorer again this is up to you the natural explorer is similar to the favored enemy in that it adds an extra feature to your class whether that be a beast tamer which gives you the find familiar spell to use or you could go something like the wasteland wanderers which give you resistance to specific damage types the ranger also comes with some decent proficiencies as well and as if you do go the range at night you'll get light medium and heavy armor proficiency you can choose to have either strength or dexterity in your range of class but dexterity is the base primary stat that you can go with so because of this an option you can go is the high elf for the extra plus two decks also allows you to use long swords and short swords as well as different bows so you can be versatile as a ranger using either milli or range if you do want to flick between melee and ranged combat it's a good idea to use a finesse weapon as a finesse weapon can use your dex multiplier as your damage output rather than other weapons which use strength another good option for a ranger is the drow race again this gives you the plus two decks as well as some other different proficiencies the rapier which is also a finesse weapon which you can use and the benefit here is either if you go drow or elf you can use a dual wielding aspect because of the short sword proficiency and then you can put a dagger in your offhand so you can dual wield if you do go the drow route then you do get the rapier as well so you can use that as your one-handed weapon [Music] so next up on the list we have rogues rogues are basically the sneaky boys of the party and they can be pretty powerful with their stealth attacks and also versatility in the kind of weapons that they can use both ranged and merely rogues are also good options for picking locks and disarming traps if you are going to go down the rogue route some races that you should look at is a halfling this is probably one of the only classes that can really use the halflings halflings do get the plus two to dexterity which is really valuable they also get lucky which when you roll a1 for your attack roll on ability check or saving throw you get to re-roll the dice which is very valuable to have it does depend on you whether you want to go lightfoot or strongheart halfling if you're looking to be a stealth rogue lightfoot is the option for the naturally stealthy otherwise if you're looking to become kind of a milli-focused rogue then strong heart is a good option for the extra constitution there are plenty of other options that you can go for for a rogue as well anything that really has this plus two dexterity so that can be elves drought as well will also give you the plus two dexterity but it won't give you the bow proficiencies you will get the hand crossbow but you already get that as part of the class so if you are going to go range then elf is the better option for the long bow and short bow proficiencies wood elf and high elf both give you that proficiency but the wood elf is the better option for the mask of the wild because you gain proficiency in stealth so if you are looking to be a stealthy boy then you do get that bonus to that there next up we have warlocks warlocks can either be melee fighters or ranged spellcasters charisma is their primary stat which makes them great as your party face you know the person that is going to be talking to a lot of the characters that you find out in the world so this is really a good idea if you do go to a warlock to have your skills into some of the charisma line here so deception intimidation performance and persuasion having the bonuses into these is a really positive for this class in terms of the class subclass you get to choose right off the bat really in my opinion the only option is the fiend for the dark ones blessing which every time you remove a hostile character down to zero hit points meaning you kill the character you actually gain some health back this is a really good way to keep yourself in the fight especially as a merely focused warlock so that when you knock something out you get a little bit of health back warlocks don't come with a lot of weapon or armor proficiencies you only get light armor and simple weapons so if you are looking at races you could go down a route that will give you some of these proficiencies back but there is really two best options to be a warlock one of them being tiefling for the plus two charisma it is really up to you what sub race you go if you're going to go a milli focused warlock the zarya tiefling is probably the best option because you get the plus one the strength as well as the plus two to charisma you do want to make sure you get that plus two to charisma regardless of what you go for here and the other option i would suggest would be a half elf of any of the different varieties all of them come with plus two it's really up to you what you would like to get in those sub-race trades and you can choose what other ability improvements you would like as a half elf my suggestion would be to put one point into constitution and then it is up to you where you put that other point depending on what kind of skills you're going to use but the key that you're getting out of this is the plus two to charisma and the others really are up to you last but certainly not least we come to the wizard the wizard is the squishiest of the party members so you do want to keep them at a distance the best that you can they do pack a punch with their spell casting however you do get a lot of canned troops and a lot of spells that you get to choose from depending on what you go with here they do have some decent proficiencies to start with but when you're looking at dagger i would not be going milly at all you want to keep your wizard at much range as possible basically just use your cantrips and spells as your primary attacks here in terms of races there isn't really a great option for a wizard in the game at the moment as the only benefits you can get is a plus one to intelligence there is no plus two intelligence races in the game as yet so because of this then options that you can go with is a high elf for the plus one like you could theoretically go a human this is probably the only one where a human may make sense because it will give you extra constitution and some other stuff to the stats which is beneficial for a wizard but you could also go a githyanki for the plus one to intelligence and you also get plus two i mean if you wanna make some kind of a melee wizard you would go a git yankee for the intelligence and the strength as well as the armor and weapon proficiencies but there is different ways you could build this most wizards are going to be arranged elf is probably the best option otherwise maybe go a human as another option you could also go two of the tiefling sub races that have the plus one int so you can get the benefits there this could be a bit of a meme because of the hellish resistance so you do have resistance to fire as a wizard you're probably going to be using firebot a lot gives you a bit of benefits then if you're going to be blowing up oil barrels all the time but that's just probably the only other option that you could go for and that's all for character creation today let me know in the comments below what races and classes that you went with and as well if you have any other questions about character creation do let me know in the
