smiling because do we really need to comment on that i mean for that matter i don't know why people want to be today so scholarly and so informative and get so bogged down in the minutia of the word of god and just seem to struggle with the basic thing of loving god before your heart um i don't know i don't know it seems so simple to me but then again i'm a simple person i choose to be simple and i choose to keep it simple you know i've worked really hard in my life keeping things simple and um it's it's for me personally it's worked out for my benefit but i would tell you to keep your life simple keep it simple my dad taught me that and it's it's benefited me so much i see some people's lives and i don't know how they do it i'm just blown away by they have their they wear so many hats and they're involved in so many things i i when i just think about their lives i get stressed i mean we celebrate today being busy god doesn't celebrate being busy you run somebody say how you doing they go oh so busy and they go that's great me too what's great about that i mean god gives us a whole day 24 hours to do absolutely nothing do you think he wants you to be busy all the time i don't know i had a good friend of mine picked me up at the airport yesterday i got into the airport and i wanted to get a lift car and for some reason i don't know what was going on but the lift cars were over two hundred dollars and at a principal i just couldn't see that so i called him and he was johnny on the spot willing to stop everything and pick me up and i told them i hope there's a lot of room in your car because i'm coming back a lot bigger i wish i was coming back bigger spiritually but there's three things that new york has anybody ever been to long beach long beach new york um it's it's two square miles with 33 000 people um you should know that long island is the most inhabited island in the world it's 118 miles it starts in queens at rockaway and it goes all the way east to montauk point where they have a magnificent lighthouse i feel bad for you guys that think new york is new york city upstate new york is one of the prettiest places in the united states of america watkins glenn and niagara falls and it's so sad that you think that would be like somebody thinking you know atlanta is georgia wouldn't that be said um but yeah it's it's and it's also it's very oh i'm gonna tell you something i have to tell you this i probably shouldn't but um it's it's all blue collar where i was which i love i love blue collar people because this is the americana um i don't go out to the hamptons because it's it's a lot of wealthy people or people that think they're wealthy and forgive me for the stereotype forgive me if you're from this area forgive me but there tends to be an air and everybody's trying to compete um and that's not for me i just like good down-to-earth people these are italian and irish immigrants second maybe third generation who came here and who kissed the ground of america because america gave them opportunities provided for them and they understand that there's an american flag outside of every house in long beach god forbid you talk derogatory about america in long beach you'll never make it out it's also a very safe town i didn't have to lock my door but 21 days and when the planes would go by on the beach and say we support the police everybody on the beach would stop and stand and clap where was i so cohesive so beautiful and they wear shirts defend long beach it was just so nice to be somewhere where there was unity even though they don't know what we know spiritually and we could take a lesson from them in terms of unity but there's three things in new york that i made a steady diet of one is pizza forgive me but you who think that marcos or pizza hut or domino's is pizza you are sorely mistaken i'm sorry i i don't mean to be disrespectful but that is not pizza anybody who's from new york who's been there knows it's not pizza i've had pizza in naples where pizza was originated and the pizza in new york is better bagels okay einstein is not bagels have to be water boiled they have to be heated certain heat they have to be baked a certain way there has to be a a crust to it but yet inside it's chewy you should never toast a bagel lenders does not know what a bagel is and their pasta is second to none because most italian immigrants from there so i ate three times a day pizza pasta and bagels yes i was on the i you've heard of the anti-messiah this was the anti-atkins i mean i i you couldn't help but gain weight and and mind you it's a it's not their fault because it is the other thing is that's so wonderful it's a total outdoors town they have a 2.2 mile boardwalk everybody is on there in the morning running walking or biking everybody and then there's others swimming and surfing in the morning and then at night they come and they don't sit and watch tv they set up volleyball courts and they all come out and play volleyball on the beach it's so outdoorsy everybody's fitness oriented it's crazy i mean it's unbelievable you know so it's it's it's not really their fault and i did i did ride a bike i had you know we met the neighbors next door and they were wonderful they said look we have bikes because they usually rent bikes but because they covered they they weren't renting bikes and i biked every morning and then at night i i like ocean water i lived in florida for 10 years so i like ocean water swimming i don't like swimming in a pool so i would go out in the way i swim is i swim about a half a mile out or a third of a mile out so jeremy came my son came to visit me and we swam all the way out you know and we're having a great time he said dad there's like old times you know when he was the only child and so we swam all the way out and it gets spooky when you go out there you know because you get hit by things hit by jellyfish you might get hit by a fish you just do but then the next morning i found out they closed the beach because they spotted a great white you know the great wife that was in maine that sadly enough so i was like wow so jeremy said dad we were swimming with the shocks i said jeremy i'm in minister i've been swimming with the sharks my whole life but yeah i did put on some weight this morning i prayer walked in the neighborhood and you know you don't realize how green you know georgia is that you're away from it for a few weeks but i was prayer walking and i'd never seen this dog but he chased me it was a three-legged dog i have to ask through the and that i couldn't get away from the three-legged dog that's how i knew i gained weight so the only thing i could do is i i know that you know you don't you don't run from a dog because he can so i just turned and i looked and i said you want to be a two-legged dog and he and he left me alone so uh so it was a a beautiful time and i think it really was you know i think it really was ordained by the lord i really do i really believe that um i knew what the torah posture was before i left jason was able to give it to me before i left i just wanted to marinate meditate on it and i don't you know i don't i'm not one of these guys have a favorite book or a favorite verse i you know i know certain verses speak to you in your life and that's great but for me you know because the whole bible is the word of god i just don't want to pick and choose you know i don't want to do that but as far as theology goes deuteronomy is one of the greatest books in the old testament it just is and you should know that it's quoted over 80 times in the new testament which is a lot of quotes um yeshua our lord was tempted by satan for 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness this you know and three of these temptations are specifically recounted in the gospels we don't it's not like he was only tempted three times by the way i know you might have thought that like he got three temptations and then for 39 days he just hung out was hungry it wasn't like that he was tempted the bible says for 40 days and 40 nights we have three that are recounted for our spiritual benefit not only did yeshua use the old testament the sword of the spirit three times but each time he used the same part of the blade deuteronomy deuteronomy deuteronomy that must that should speak to you that should speak to you he had access to all of it you know and it's likely it's likely i can't say for sure that the book of deuteronomy was one of yeshua's favorites and because it was one of yeshua's favorites it should be one of ours as well it's not a repetition like people think it's a restatement for the new generation that had risen during the wilderness journey that generation did not see the magnificent miracles and the wonders of god so it was a restatement they were about to enter the promised land okay and in order to enjoy god's blessings there they must know the law and obey it guys i can cut to the chase there's no different for us as new covenant believers there isn't we've had our exodus you know egypt is known as a dark land we've had our exodus from darkness when we were saved we were redeemed by the blood of the lamb we put it on the doorposts and lentil of our hearts and then we went into the wilderness really we went into the wilderness we're not in the promised land yet we're getting there this is where god speaks this is where god refines us this is where god sanctifies us but if you can look at the promised land like the kingdom of god because you've been taken out of the kingdom of darkness and brought into the kingdom of light in that kingdom there's a whole new set of rules you know this rules everywhere have you noticed that and rightfully so without rules there's chaos you know rules protects you from me and rules protect me from you and that's what god's rules were all about to protect me from you and you from me is there's rules at burger king i mean i used to take my kids to the playground there the indoor playground why do they ask you to take off your shoes because if little johnny is wearing his cowboy boots and comes down the slide and little lisa is laying on the bottom of the slide and she gets hit with a boot she can get a concussion and who knows how bad it can be so those rules that protect people these rules are to protect us why we don't see that is beyond me it's just beyond me i i i can't wrap my mind around that one we're not we're in a whole new kingdom there's a whole new set of rules in that kingdom god's kingdom has a whole new set of rules we look at the world and talk about how bad the world is the world was bad is bad and always will be bad by definition but we're not of the world what do we have to do with the world except to infiltrate it with the light and the gospel the world in its ways has nothing to do with us we're responsible for the king and his kingdom we're responsible to him and his ways and there's no there's no way around it there's just no way around it i think jason picked a magnificent couple of verses look at them it's it's as simple as it comes deuteronomy 6 24-25 let's take a look i don't know i ordered us understand he didn't challenge us i think we used that word from pulpits in america too flagrantly we're so afraid not myself but men of god is so afraid to speak the truth of god's word you know without watering it down well i want to challenge you god didn't challenge he didn't suggest he ordered he commanded god is the commander-in-chief any of you who in the military understand a chain of command and we understand why there's a chain of command well in god's kingdom there's a chain of command there's only two pillars in god's kingdom there's authority as one pillar and there's submission to that authority the reason why we needed a sacrifice is because the idolatry of serving self is out of control it was and it is now more than ever more than ever so i don't know you ordered us we are grafted in so we're part of the us right to observe all these laws the aforementioned laws when from leviticus all the way to numbers 10 to fear i don't know our god this is the issue today the fear of god is the issue always for our own good not for his good it's not like he's sitting there going wow beth yeshua's obeying me i feel good i feel more like god he always feels like god he has worship all the time he knows who he is he does not have an identity crisis this is for us and our good it's for us and our good i'm not telling you some of you have been a believer a lot longer than i have been i'm not telling you anything new why we forget it so easily is beyond me well i'm just gonna do this i'm gonna i'm gonna i'm just gonna do this that's not what god wants you to do why are you doing it and you know this people write to me all the time and i'm like you know the answer you don't need me for the answer i'm not the answer man yeshua is the answer and his ways are the answer not me you know what the answer is so that he might keep us alive as we are today because you've got to realize how many people left adults 603 550. the wilderness had 603 548 tombstones caleb and joshua the only one 603 548 tombstones it will be righteousness for us we're called to be righteous right that's what we're called right it's a fancy word it means just to do the right thing according to god we're called to be righteous so how are we righteous he says then if we fear god and observe the laws that's righteousness that's it it's this is as simple as it gets it will be righteousness for us if we are careful he explains it to obey all the mitzvot before i don't know i got just as he suggested just as he ordered us to do look at the word observe it's real simple i mean does it get any more simple than that to do it is clearly evident that god is emphasizing the requirement that the children of israel should be law abiding citizens the question that i'll present to you and i think the question because we just read deuteronomy what about new covenant believers what about us maybe that was just for them a lot of people think that that was for them that was for the children of israel i'm i'm a christian what do i got to do with them well i think a lot of you already know the answer that's why you're here at beth yeshua i believe it will help us answer this question if we understand the difference between the believer's position and his practice he'll believe his position and his practice his position his or her position our position is our standing in messiah where c didn't have any places you know that's our position his practice is what he or she should be doing in their everyday life huge difference grace the grace of god puts us into the position it plugs us into the position we're saved and we're considered righteous positionally speaking but then the grace of god there's another part of the grace of god that teaches us to walk worthy of it to walk worthy of it that's why even if you explain to somebody the abcs and you go okay admit that you're a sinner believe that yeshua died for your sins and confess him as lord that's not necessarily salvation unless there's a repentance you will agree right it's it's a no-brainer now you'll be but but understand this you who may be shaking your head in pride you need to repent every day okay just make sure you don't go yeah i've repented those other believers they're not real believers be very careful be very careful with the measure that you judge you shall be judged i'm giving you a loving warning about that be very very very careful opposition is absolutely perfect because we are in messiah that's a truth that's a biblical truth our practice should increasingly correspond to opposition it will never correspond perfectly until we see the savior in heaven know that but we should be becoming more and more conformed to his image in the meantime grace is the only thing that really produces holiness it's the only thing it is not restraint but inspiration that liberates a person from sin it is not sinai alone but golgotha which makes us saints you understand you just can't give a person the torah and say now just obey this will never happen you have to understand the love of god through the cross at golgotha you have to understand that it should hit you like a ton of bricks like oh my look what i've done and then oh my look how much you love me you have to see that whenever you look to the cross now take a look at a verse in the newer testament uh first john 5 3 obviously this is and by the disciple that yeshua loved he had a very special relationship with him it says for loving god means obeying his commands there's no way to dance around that one how do i know i love god he's telling us moreover his commands are not burdensome now those who are truly saved will be categorized by a desire to do the will of god i'm not in a position when i see somebody in a backslidden position i don't know if i don't know them i don't know if they're backslidden or they were never saved there were some people that were never saved it's i don't want to scare anybody i'm just saying that's not for me to determine if i know somebody i can tell no this person would say they're just very backslidden right now you follow they're just in an unrepentant state i can kind of look at that because a tree is known by its fruit right but don't ask me about somebody in a situation that i don't know i don't have a crystal ball and it's not my position to know but our love for god is expressed in willing obedience this commands three times yeshua said if you love me you'll keep my commandments okay the bible makes one reference to the laws of messiah one how many how many sentences are in here 31 103 and there's one sentence that says the laws of christ just one and i say this hear me for a minute because all the laws of christ different than the laws of god some would think so some would think when they make that mention in this obscure letter right one little letter the one little congregation penned by paul then now it must mean there's a different set of rules now just love just love be a loving person i can tell you i have secular friends that oh forgive me but way more loving than a lot of christians i've ever met so that can't be the answer alone right it can't be because then the gospel is not the gospel here's the deal if a person thinks this is just my opinion and you could totally discreet me because i i wouldn't blame you you don't have to agree with me ever if you think that yeshua's laws are different than the father's laws then as far as i'm concerned you are a replacement theologian you are a replacement theologian how so because i don't believe that yeshua came the way i read this to replace to improve or to change god's laws i don't believe he came to replace god's laws i don't believe he came to improve god's laws i don't believe he came to change god's laws i believe that he came to write those laws on our hearts so that we would truly know the father he would internalize them put them on the deepest part of who we are so we would not have to run to somebody like me and go rabbi is is it okay is it okay to you know the answer if you're born again you have them on the inside of you which is magnificent when john says his commandments are not burdensome i think people misunderstand that too it does not mean that they are not difficult that's what i think most people think right they're not burns them they're easy he's not saying that but rather they are the very things which born again people love to do you understand the difference he's not saying oh they're easy it's a walk in the park not it's not easy or hard it's when you're born again you have this desire a joy how's that forget desire desires a little too intense a joy to follow the lord when he tells you to do something you have a joy yeah i said to bernie that recently i i know anti-semitism is going to come on the rise i don't want to be on the wrong side of this thing burn i get to long beach long beach is all all irish catholic and roman catholic and most of the people do not go to church anymore at all there's too big church they just don't go anymore for all kinds of reasons it's not important i don't want to get into the psychology of it there's a little orthodox enclave but at the end of the block i was at there was an israeli flag never you'll never see that never and so i get to know the person young guy and he's originally from russia and he says his parents are making aliyah this year and i was like wait a minute that doesn't that doesn't happen you know they're in long island they're affluent they're not going to be affluent i said if you don't mind tell me why it goes you're not going to believe it i said try me he says my father is not religious secular totally secular my father believes that he will not be safe here soon as a jew in america i said your father's hearing right so then immediately i get stirred and i'm like we got to get out of here like right now and burn says god told us when to leave new york he told us when to leave florida he'll tell us when to leave megan but i don't want to get on the wrong side of it because yours truly you know has studied the holocaust probably more than the collective bunch of you and it's not pretty and the bible talks about another holocaust and i've heard a lot of holocaust what i call them heroes not survivors and what they always say always as they're speaking about what took place their stories are similar but they always say and it changed overnight so i don't want to be the on the wrong on the wrong side of this okay but i i do agree with burn to an extent that god will probably tell us when i would just rather be early than late you know when you tell a mother to take good care of her baby you're only telling her what she loves to do if i'm a peer telling believers to obey the commandments of god you should be being like yeah i know i love to do that right i mean i'm preaching to the choir for the most part i think we just have to be reminded every now and then because we just you know we veer off with just us it happens to all of us the commandments of the lord are the things which are best for us and the things in which our new nature takes a wholehearted delight our motivation to keep god's laws is found in love it just is look at the section that jason picked out for the new a testament reading matthew 22 when the crowds heard how he taught they were astounded that's just the greek word means blown away they were blown away but when the perishing the pharisees learned that he had silenced that seducing the sadducees they they were different schools like today no two people agree no two people agree but they were different schools religious schools in the jewish community there was a couple of others but these were the most known and they weren't friends at all but even people that don't like each other when they have a common goal they'll unify we see it all the time don't we the only people that don't unify christians everybody else unifies i don't know if you've ever noticed but demons don't fight with each other just christians rabbi that's harsh that's truth it's not harsh it's truth sorry it's truth even here i know it goes on i don't know who you are but you need to stop i'm begging you stop it so they got together they unified hey i don't like you you don't like me but we really don't like that guy let's unify and one of them was a torah expert asked to shilla to trap him it's a legal question about the law the law is everything in judaism right you go up to an orthodox shoe and say hey if you accept jesus you'll go to heaven and you don't have to worry about the torah you lost them we're done remember i did that whole teaching 15 hours on how to talk to a jewish person please if you have any jewish people you're talking to watch it watch it please i know i'm the jew you know i didn't learn it from a book so they asked them a question rabbi he was a rabbi they respected him as a rabbi he was a legitimate rabbi yep which of the mitzvot which of the commandments in the torah is the most important so the pharisees here that like i told you they silenced their antagonists the sadducees so they decide to send in their big gun they have big guns he's an expert in mosaic law a scribe aka a lawyer an expert in the mosaic law now he comes to ask this shallow this technical question in judaism it's a question about the jewish law and the legal expert i think asked a great question especially amidst 613 commandments 613 commandments so i think he asked a great question okay which which is the most important of the 613. now i want you to understand something you who are a easton a western-eyed christian this book was written by jews to jews in a jewish place about a jewish guy so you have to go back you have to understand that this is not a strange question this was a question that went on it was an ordinary question in judaism you follow it's called the light heavy discussion it's gone it still goes on today it goes on today how to walk things what's most important what's most important we know they're all important but what's most important what's light what's heavy and i could show you not only is this an ongoing debate in judaism but i could show you in matthew 23 right in our bible you'll see it it says woe to you hypocritical torah teaches in perishing this is yeshua speaking you pay your tithes of mint and your dill and your cumin your herbs but you have neglected the what light there's light and heavy now just for some of you i'm not i don't get into teaching about money by the grace of god because this place is god's place we have been blessed monetarily i i say that to you i would never cry poverty because it's a lie and we've never had to take a special offering we've never had to teach on tithing we've never had to do it do you do you know that's a that's an absolute anomaly i don't know my friends in the ministry say i don't know of any place in 18 years that never had a teaching on money but let me just let me just say this to you based on what yeshua said he said the heavier matters of justice mercy and trust these are the things you should have attended to justice mercy and trust without neglecting the tithe so if you think you've got to go into malachi you're lost see if you do teach on pastors that are watching if you want to help your congregation get money don't go to malachi because most people think it's malachi it's some italian prophet they don't even want to know about it go right into the new testament go into the words of yeshua forget malachi there's no greater words than yeshua's words so as far as you would think oh we don't really have to do it anymore whatever okay that's not important there's weightier and heavy so he asked this question okay which was a first century question to ask now here's basically the question matthew 22 36 this is the question rabbi which of the mitzvot of the torah is the most important this is our 64 000 question the million dollar answer is in 37 38 the next two verses he told him he didn't say oh there's no one more important than another he didn't say that he didn't say there's no hierarchy to the law he didn't say nothing's more weightier or lighter than any other no he gave him an answer he said this is the most important you are to love the lord your god he is the lord your god he's your god with all your heart and all your soul and all your strength this is the greatest and most important mitzvah this there's no argument it's the shema he's speaking deuteronomy again it's deuteronomy 6 5. now you need to tell me that whether you're an old testament saint back in deuteronomy or a new covenant believer in 21st century macon the shema is still in force a lot of people don't believe that not necessarily i believe yeshua i i shouldn't say what i believe really because you know i believe in this but i believe yeshua was trying to show the scribes and the torah teachers their utter spiritual bankruptcy because nobody has ever loved the lord with all their heart and all their soul and all their mind and for you that think you do my goodness how could you think that how could you think that how did you convince yourself that you do that and then if you think that you're gonna you're gonna fall into elitism you're gonna think you're better than so many others who obviously don't it's not true we're all spiritually bankrupt to an extent that's the humility that's the beauty of it that's the beauty of putting yeshua on the pedestal not a man the best of men and men at best for without the cleansing of sin and the empowering presence of the holy spirit loving god to any degree is virtually impossible impossible although we need a savior we also need to take seriously the command to love god with all our heart soul and strength yes we have to take that seriously we can't just go well nobody could do it so why try no that's a mistake that's that's that's just grace and grace alone there's no truth to that to those who do who'd really try to take seriously the command to love god they are those who become consumed with god you'll meet people that are consumed with god and some people like well they're just strange they're taking it to an ex extent that's not normal they're obsessive now stay humble some of you are going i'm consumed with god stay humble how do i do that rabbi how am i i'm obviously consumed with god you do it you practice it you put it into practice they get excited to read his word they don't feel obligated they can't wait they're eager to pray they don't say well i'll pray for you they pray immediately when somebody comes with a request immediately no matter where it is in the store in the in the street in the marketplace the school place it doesn't matter and they get pumped about sharing the good news they look for opportunities they've got a radar working and they're saying god this one how do i approach it god it is these that the love for god grows the knowledge of god grows and the grace of god grows so yeshua masterfully as only the master can do summarizes man's obligation to god as the first and greatest commandment with the shema we're to love god with all hearts souls and strength okay great rabbi i get it we're done right not exactly it's one more verse verse 39 and a second don't leave they're like okay you gave me the answer i'm good i'll take it back to my crew not yet time this is the problem the problem for the unbelieving community is they don't love god the problem for the believing community they don't love others shocking isn't it but also true that's the beauty of truth it can't be refuted only somebody mentally ill or somebody who's totally illogical or lacks common sense will refute truth and he's like wait there's there's another one that's very similar to that one similar it's not they're not separate they're totally connected because how can you love god and not love what he loves most you know how many people i have met that that i feel like they've been baptized in pickle juice they love god with all the heart love god god would never hurt me they love god they don't really like people that much they hide they don't want to get together with anybody they don't want to talk to anybody that's why they do this this is safe admit it some of you don't like people some of you might not like me so yeshua adds man's second responsibility and by the way i don't want to continue or belabor it but he says all the law and the prophets hang on these meaning every other law in god's bible hangs on either loving god or loving people now we know that the first commandment the most important commandment is the shema what is he saying here he's not making something up he's not making like a hip like the golden rule it's just the after it's it's leviticus 19 18. look he just pops out the two most important things deuteronomy 6 5 that's torah don't take vengeance and you got to read the whole thing don't take vengeance or bear a grudge what what don't bear a grudge what wait a minute what do you say are you saying what i think you're saying is god telling you and me never to bear a grudge everybody in here is bearing a grudge everybody in here is bearing a grudge remember the family member you lent the thousand dollars to and they stopped talking to you remember that guy i've done it so many times remember the family member that didn't come to your kids bar mitzvah i don't need to go on do i it'll bring up some bad memories for me too and i don't want to you know i'm working real hard at not bearing grudges so i don't want to belabor it you don't mind right rabbi it's like you put us down no i'm not putting you down i'm lifting god up it's not about you stop making it about you stop making it about you stop making it about you i'm not interested to hear about how great your kids are and how great their reading level is your kids are average god is not back in my day when i was young nobody my father would say to people like that there's something wrong with him we don't know i mean there's no dumb kids anymore today right everybody's so smart and so brilliant and so magnificent no god is so smart and so brilliant so magnificent you haven't noticed how the shema is always recited so grandiose shima israel and then this is like the ahafte whatever hero israel love god love your neighbor leviticus chapter 19 is basically talking about ethical conduct or laws for everyday life for instance it speaks about basic humane and sensitive treatment of others i got a news flash for you again shouldn't bring this up because you don't bring this stuff up you don't talk politics religion you know what who said i'll talk whatever i want to talk as long as god approves it you're not going to edit what i say there's a lot of things that people don't know they don't know their history okay it was the jewish community who understood leviticus 19 back before the jews were totally secular almost and it was the jewish people who in the 1950s saw the treatment of the black people in the south and they came there would be no civil rights without the jewish attorneys that came from new york and philadelphia and new jersey there would be none i met king's son i had a conversation with him we spoke about his father just him and i and a lot of people don't know that because we understood you were once an alien in egypt don't treat anybody like an alien i got news for you a lot in the south we're reaping what was sown by the same token man man when you're going to be a christian and realize that everybody has fallen short of the glory be careful with the fingers you're pointing because there's going to be a finger of god pointing at you and you don't want that finger pointing at you it's one thing if you point a finger at me doesn't bother me basic humane and sensitive treatment of others like the aged the handicapped and the poor why do you think our ministries dedicate itself to the poor the widow and the orphan why do you think i do that you think that came do you think that came in a dream or a vision it's in the it's the basic torah for me that's what you do you take care of the poor the wood and the orphan that's what you do the labor is promptly paid not uh i'll get it to you in a cup no wrong no the stranger is to be treated with the same love we treat our fellow citizens what and vengeance and grudge bearing are condemned condemned in other words if we truly truly want to love god then we have to love what he loves and what does he love look at the bible within the bible john 3 16 for god so loved the world he so loved the world what is the world let's take a look it's cosmos now it means the universe yes that's a definition but do you think god's really going i just love jupiter love love love jupiter you think that's what he's saying to the four living creatures guys come here let me tell you what i love jupiter no it's the inhabitants of the earth the ungodly multitude not just believers it's easy to love people that love you don't we love to be around people that love us and always tell us all kinds of great things about us and how wonderful we are and what a blessing we are and how tremendous we are and how anointed we are and how giving we are yeah that's why we pick and choose our friends but it's the whole mass of men alienated from god and hostile to the cause of messiah we're hiding we're in hiding come out come out wherever you are how is the light going to penetrate the darkness when we're hiding well rabbi go to bible study yeah i go to synagogue yeah go to the men's meeting yeah we have a little we have let's not forget our little group and that you know if i wrote another book it probably wouldn't solo that well but i would probably title it jesus wasn't nice because he wasn't and there's too many christians acting nice there is a world of difference between the terms kind and nice kindness emerges from someone who's confident confident and compassionate and comfortable with themselves a kind person is loving and giving out of the goodness of their heart niceness on the other hand is rooted in feelings of inadequacy and the desperate need to get approval from others overly nice people try to please others so they can feel good about themselves it's insidiously selfish kind people have no ulterior motives and they don't care what people think kind people can also be quite assertive nice people on their hand will bend over backwards to be obliging they deal with potential conflicts by placating the other person because they can't deal with anyone being upset with them i don't believe for a millisecond that yeshua was nice look at matthew 22 15-16 we don't have much left then the perishing went away this is right before they gave they put the question to him and put together a plan to trap him they sent him some of their talmudin their disciples some of the best and some members of herod's party the herodians which had another outlook and they said rabbi we know that you tell the truth and really teach what god's ways god's ways way is you aren't concerned with what people think about you since you pay no attention to a person's status that's how they knew that's how they knew that he taught truth and he walked in the ways of god because he wasn't nice he was kind he was confident in the lord he was compassionate towards others and he was totally comfortable with who he is and what mission he was on and nobody was going to afford that mission as much as we might not like to focus on it we should ponder the words love your neighbor as yourself we should think of how very much we love ourselves and of how much of our activity centers around the care and comfort of self then we should try to imagine what it would be like if we showered that love on others and then we should do it i don't know about you but i know all my neighbors they know me very well across the street on either side of me even diagonally they know who i am they know what i'm about a lot of them don't believe the way i believe but they still know i love them not only should we try to shower love on others but if we do we have to come to the conclusion that such behavior is not natural it is not when i lived in new york you know you might not realize this but new york is 12 miles manhattan is 12 miles by 2. people go there's a lot of traffic there duh genius there's 5 million people on any one given day on an island of 12 by 2. some of you have 10 acres and you can't get along with your neighbor you don't even know your neighbor you never even talk to your neighbor only those who are born again can do this and then only by allowing yeshua to do it through them via the power of the holy spirit i would never take any credit for it i am naturally a self-centered person who thinks about me and mine that's me you might be different but it's the holy spirit that veers me into another direction on a regular basis i don't care if i'm in the airport i don't care where i am always a chance to show the greatness and glory of god as we come to a close here i think the book of deuteronomy can be summed up in the verbs in deuteronomy 5 1 beautifully it says then moshe called to all israel and said to them listen israel to the laws and rulings which i am announcing in your hearing today so that you will learn them and take care to obey them this is this is in a nutshell i kid you not this is what we're required to do this is our purpose listen learn and obey nothing more nothing less it's almost like god is saying are you listening to me do you understand me and just do it that's it nothing more nothing less this is the way i see it god is the lawgiver who gave us the law god what what is the law the torah or the law is the enforcer and you might say wait a minute how does it enforce because there's blessings and curses attached to it all that's the enforcement of it and then we are the lord abider you and me now i think that there's christians out there who would say let's defund the torah and i think it's incredibly dangerous to defund the torah so you got a prayer book back there we're going to end with this if i can ask you guys to just rise if if it's hard for you to rise or you don't feel like rising or like who are you to tell me to rise you can sit you'll look like an idiot but you can sit no i'm only kidding um there is a there is a a move of god but there's also a move of the enemy wherever there's a move there's a counter move you know that's the way chess works and there's a lukewarm spirit very strong lukewarm spirit now i used to think that the lukewarm spirit was only dangerous to the lukewarm the person themselves but i realized while i was in long beach that that's not the case the lukewarm spirit is dangerous to the hot believer because they cool you off and they constantly are trying to cool you off you know what i mean like like no offense my daughter my youngest daughter swim she's she's in great shape but people always say that he is so skinny i always tell her i said you're not skinny they're fat so when you're when you're an on fire believer they just want to cool you down now if you're cold it's great because you can hit rock bottom and god can save you when you're hot it's great because god can use you when you lukewarm it's dangerous very dangerous the beauty of it is you can god can heat you up in no time so let me end with this before we put back the torah it's [Music] [Music] [Music] it is a tree of life that's the law of god a tree of life to those who take hold of it and those who support it are praiseworthy its ways are ways of pleasantness and all its paths of peace oh lord bring this back to you and we shall come renew our days as of old amen now may the lord bless you and keep you may the lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and may the lord lift up his very countenance upon you and give you his peace in the name of the principle of peace yeshua peace foreign god bless you
