Make is my favorite word and so I want to make
a video about make! The question is, do you know every single phrasal verb with make that you
need to know to pass the B2 First Cambridge exam? To be honest, I don't think you do. And
that's a terrible thing. My name is Toby, this is SMASH English and here is every single
phrasal verb with make that you need to know to pass the B2 First Cambridge exam. To make up. Definition one: to invent something.
Usually something non-physical like a story, an excuse or a song. Separable and transitive.
So are we like ready to begin? Ciao! Monica speaking! Monica? Yeah. I'm gonna be late for the
video. Why? Bruce, we need to make this video! Oh my god! You get it? Make! Because the video's
about make! Yeah, yes, Monica. Very funny. Um I'm stuck in traffic. But Bruce you can't even
drive! Monica don't be stupid! If I couldn't drive then how could I be stuck in traffic
(which I am right now) all right? Goodbye. Toby! Bruce says he's going to be late! He made
up like a really stupid excuse! He says he's stuck in traffic but he can't even drive! Toby you're
the best teacher in the whole world and I know, my students say so. Oh my god! Toby are you
even listening to me? Monica! I'm busy! What do you want? But Toby! Bruce is going to be late
and he made up a stupid excuse that's not even real! He said he was stuck in traffic but Bruce
can't even drive so that means he was lying to me! Yeah... wow... yeah... Good point. Um that
song, by the way, that I was singing before, did you like it? Yeah whatever. Monica I made
it up just now, literally just now! That Monica is talent! Um okay. Definition two: to form or
constitute. Separable and transitive. English. It's my life and I learned it thanks to Toby. So for a musician like me the creative
process is made up of multiple layers. Toby you're not like any other teacher that I've
ever had you remind me of my dad. The first layer is the natural talent of the artist. Here
the artist is me and I am very, very talented. ...He knows spelling too. He knows English... The
second layer that makes up the creative process is the inspiration and in this case the
inspiration is SMASH English because SMASH English is very inspirational. Imagine a world where there
is no SMASH English I can't! No I can't! Imagine a world where there is no... And last but not least,
the final component that makes up the creative process is the natural energy of the universe.
Toby, don't tell me that the lesson is over now. I've got so much to learn, won't you show me how?
Alright guys? Sorry I'm late, uh what's going on? Toby thinks he's a musician again. Oh for goodness
sake! This is very common with MIND. To MAKE UP your MIND means to arrive at a decision. Toby!
I thought I had to be on time instead I find you doing this! Toby I've got to be honest
with you like you sound terrible. Right, I've made up my mind! SMASH English! Learn English
with music! But all you do is sing about yourself! Well yeah obviously, Monica. I'm English. Jesus
christ! Right! I'm done! I'm going, see you later. Definition three: to make up for. To compensate
for something. Inseparable and transitive. Wow! Your music is amazing! Duke, tell me what you
think of this one? Teach me nouns, adjective, suffixes, maybe verbs. Cause I wanna
pass the B2 First. Oh this is brilliant! Uh, is Monica here? Oh my god, Toby! What is he
doing here? Monica, I had to invite Duke over to make up for Bruce leaving! Okay I'm done. Bye!
Monica has left the room... Definition four: to finish an argument and become friends
again. Inseparable and intransitive. Toby! Play another song, please! Duke I'm
sorry. I'm exhausted alright! Every artist needs some time to relax. Some time to
rejuvenate the creative spirit! Another song now! Monica please come back! Duke is driving me
insane... he's got a knife... who gave him that? Oh so now you want to make up!? Well it's too late
for that Mr Toby. Are we done now? Yeah, I totally just said make up so we're like done with this
part of the video right? Yeah I think so. Finally. Play. Another. SONG! Duke! We are finished! Oh
sorry, Toby. To make for somewhere or something. To move towards something quickly.
Inseparable and transitive. Uh now what? Uh I don't know? ... Monica hi! Jesus, Duke!
Put the knife down you idiot! Monica, what's wrong? Oh my god, oh my god... Monica is making
for the door. Duke! Put the knife away! God! Oh sorry guys. I just get so excited! Oh good god!
To make do or to make do with. To compromise and use something less than perfect. Inseparable
and intransitive. Toby I need to give you this. What is it? We do not believe that SMASH English
provides a safe working environment for its staff okay? Safe working environment? What are
you talking about? Uh well for a start, Toby, one of your employees is
waving a knife around! But guys I apologized! Duke, shut up! Look, I'm
sorry all right! But we've got to make do! You know why? Because no one else wants
to work with us! What am i supposed to do? To make something into something else. To
transform something into something else. Separable and transitive. This commonly gets confused with
the phrasal verb to turn into. BUT there is an important difference. If you make something into
something else then the subject is doing something to cause that change to happen. This boy has made
a piece of paper into a paper aeroplane. With the phrasal verb turn into, something can turn into
something else (become something else) either on its own or with the help of someone else. So this
boy can turn paper into a paper aeroplane but the paper cannot turn into a paper airplane because
the paper cannot do this on its own. A caterpillar on the other hand turns into a butterfly because
it does this all on its own. A boy cannot turn a caterpillar into a butterfly or make a caterpillar
into a butterfly unless the boy has special powers that allows it to transform different animals...
No it cannot happen! Okay? No! To make off. To escape. Inseparable and intransitive. Oh
no! The criminals made off with the money! You are mad! God! Bruce! Run! He's crazy!
But guys I just want to be your friend! And they've made off... So I guess
it's time for me to make off too! And with that we are finished! Now you know every
single phrasal verb we make that you need to know for the B2 First Cambridge exam! If you
liked the video don't forget to SMASH that like button, subscribe if you haven't
