Seven and a half hours?! I know he said on Twitter he felt the length of the video made up for the delay, but I could never imagine it reaching seven and a half hours in length.
This should be reposted next week so everyone has had a chance to watch the thing and can properly comment on it, lol.
When I saw the thumbnail I assumed he would only review the remakes, but he actually reviewed EVERY mainline resi game in a 7 hour video.
I'm very excited to watch the whole thing lol
Side question, has Noah ever explained why he hasnβt done Deus Ex yet? It seems like it would be his thing and itβs surprising to see him cross the threshold and do a Japanese console series before he does such a pc classic.
Whoa! He finally did it, and in a big way. I guess he either got too many requests from fans/patrons, or that Evil Within jaunt he had finally did it in. And the timing is perfect because I have a VERY slow week at work. So I'm going to attempt to watch/listen to a portion each day.
Holy moly 7 and a half hours. Thank god Youtube remembers where I stopped, this is gonna take a few days. Really happy though, Noah is one of the top game critics imo.
Without a shadow of a doubt Noah is the best essayist on Youtuber but what's seriously impressive about this video is that he actually manages to cover everything in 7 hours...
It sounds like an insanely long video but just think about how many RE games there actually is!
I watched some parts (RE1,2,3,7,8,RE1make,RE2make,RE3make) and its one of the best takes on those games I have seen. He has a fairly deep understanding of how each title achieve what it wants to achieve in many aspects - gameplay, atmopshere, narrative, mechanics etc.
What I also liked is he was really open minded and wanted to appreciate each game and their strengths separately (something that Im unable to do in some cases). I disagree with him here and there (for example:
SamaraEveline isnt more cliche than rest ofTexas Chainsaw Massacre familyBakers, especially since her character has the most twists that reinterpret this trope) but undeniably this person has great knowledge of horror media and knows how to analyse it.Edit: I think the biggest weakness of this video is when he tries to make some general statements about RE franchise or - and this was really cringey - about horror itself. He is much better when analyses given game, than when he goes into cliche arbitrary statements realm ("Resident Evil is not the best when it tries to be original, its the best when it tries to be true [...] It just needs to be bold, clever and sharp" or "horror shouldn't be universal, it should be personal" - come on, this is such a pretentious nothingburger).
