feels like winter out here and i can't find my coat it is chilly went back in the house and looked in the laundry room and there was my coat my mom washed it thanks mom appreciate it [Music] like i said it's chilly it's below freezing it's like 29 degrees and we're in like third week of april you know this is that negative 15 we had a month and a half ago but it's pretty chilly in our herd bulls we got 10 at the south farm they got an appointment today to ride the lightning they're getting semen tested and so we gotta go round them up get them in the trailer bring them to town and that is the plan you want to come too want to come too oh you do huh she would hate that drive i think that ball can use a little grease and you say i've yet to get results from my mri on my knee today's monday tomorrow i'm actually going into the doctor so i kind of thought they'd just they'd still call me and let me know but they want they're just going to wait until i come in and talk to the doctor that we had scheduled he's feeling a little better every day it's just still feels weak and it feels like i'll tweak it again real easy obviously still a little bit of pain in there but it's better i can walk it can do tractor stuff which is awesome you know it was kind of perfect timing to get hurt because we slowed down a lot with calving conditions are pretty decent for calving it's not really muddy and dad's dragging cast through the mud or anything like that right there dad's got some wet corn we ran out of the wet corn here but since the rest of the feeders at the feed lots at jeff's place are empty or they're gone we sold them i'm getting dust in my eyes there was no need for that little bit of wet corn left so we brought actually dad brought it over here with the dump truck that was early last week when i was still just laying on the couch because my knee hurt so bad all right now it's time to wrangle up some cattle [Music] when we bring those balls back they're gonna be hanging out here we kind of wait till this time of the year as you know we had a bunch of heifers back here when we were calving them getting them up in the barn when they needed to and also with bold day which was last week having to run these bowls through this pen it's nice when there's nothing in here obviously now we're ready to bring them home we got this bunk right here so we can feed them some good corn some dakota gold pro pellets kind of get their body condition back up a little bit more from you know this past winter they were just eating some okay quality hay and get them ready to go out on pasture and talk about it very well last video when we were testing our bowls we did a number of things to them there were three shots a pre-breeding a pink eye and then there was one other one that i don't quite remember we also pouring them for like worms and lights and then of course testing them to make sure that their swimmers are doing good it's such an important thing to do you know you don't want to just set a bull out in a pasture because if they're not ready to breed if their swimmers aren't good and they are in that pasture all year and don't get a single cow bread you're looking at a big loss and so it's super important it doesn't cost much to get them tested i i would say no matter how big your herd is a couple head to hundreds you want to get all your bulls tested one fell apart when he took the skirt off my buns is frosty we have any calves this morning no so it's three days in a row no cleave they're just waiting until we're in the field so they can have trouble you know i think we only got about 20 left that's crazy talking to rod shaw but he's getting nine a day there and lately he said he had like 56 in about seven days that's a couple oh my imagine that oh that is that's a lot he's he's needing a break yeah i'm sure they're trying to bail both ways oh wow looks like there's a little more room on this side it's all dirt doing that annual taking the edge off so the water doesn't sit on the road you know what they say they're playing on a date gonna be a few snowflakes falling i guess it isn't quite spring yet i just about beat you to the back end of the trailer i'm getting speedy i'm not real fast but i'm steady by gum anybody ever heard by gum before like them [Music] oh dad i'm cold looks like the bulls aren't too far out hanging out over here we just gotta chase them up around and into the trailer on the other side of the barn they certainly look a little rough they haven't been poured for a few months after today when they get those shots and they get some more pour on them they'll be sitting pretty good so after we get these bowls out of here we're actually gonna so there's like 20 pairs over here way down there we're gonna open this all up so they can come out hang in here hang in the trees but not quite let them into the pasture yet we want that to grow up and get ahead of the critters before we put them all out there don't start fighting now let's go let's go yep come on guys big old beep hey hey buddy that went about as good as it could have gone first time nothing like that first time feeling someone's saying the same thing as me got the poo slappies in the cab now yeah gotta smell them so we don't lose them yeah i guess i'd rather smell them than lose them they're good slappies yep got that cowardly slappy and the muck slappy so add it to the bowl spa and so dr bars calls it the bull spot that's gotta deposit some checks but his boots got bull crap on him so he's walking through the drive-through we're about to drive by uh the salvage yard i just want to ask the people do you know if scrap iron is worth something right now like the price everything else is and i got a bunch of scrap to bring in imagine it's a good time to bring it in until you'd rather ask everybody else then just call the place i know well they're going to tell me a price and i'm going to be like i don't know what to compare to so is it good compared to recent years deals high you think scraps you think so i uh a couple summer summers ago before i went back to college i got a lot of beer i mean uh book money for bringing in scrap iron we pulled up one of our most favorite bowls was in a different pen we were worried you didn't test and you didn't test that well but i guess the last few years he didn't test well either but each year in the past year he does a good job ellie you helping yeah they could get fattened up a little bit more fattened up and cleaned up they were rubbing quite a bit they're actually in pretty good shape for breeding they just a little rough haired but yeah i don't know much that's all you gotta say about that yeah pretty much the yearling bowls are getting all snorty they wouldn't stand a chance you put six foot under brian says he's got a little spiel for you guys so here it is well you know cole we've done a lot of semen tests in the last couple days and i've noticed three common occurrences okay first thing is they kind of say and the second thing is this this one eye and it blinks like that and the third thing is one of their back legs and then when they do all three at the same time it's like more please that's all i got to say about that so we're going to make it so those pears can come out into these trees get more grass and then come into here eat some of this little chewing and also go out that way look at that stuff nice mouth full of green calf right here was the first one of the year 9.95 he is a nice size critter growing up real good [Music] check on some kettles that one looked like it was dead taking the good nap with the tongue out there's a little on there she's got the dingleberry it's probably flapping in the wind she can't get rid of it they're all just relaxing all right guys you're coming with me we're gonna do some field work always remember you want to be like btos big time operators always gotta have your cool sunglasses on when you're in the field i don't make the rules i just follow them right on [Music] hydraulics are a little chilled just always puts a damper and everything having a fuel up that's taken off i think with the loader double bale spear our hey guy is coming again tomorrow to grab a little bit more hay and then i don't think we'll we'll probably won't be selling much after that so dad's gonna feed some hay and then drop that tractor off at the south farm so when the hay guy comes tomorrow you'll have something to load it up with it took travel specifically so i wouldn't have to run into traffic nice the ditches are dry some years some years you can't do that you start slipping in putting in giant ruts and race down the field we're going to is just like three quarter mile down and to the left these machines just got so big it's hard to move them from field to field so we're going to stop into these corn stalks after we get done what we're doing we're doing like 17 acres should take too long about an hour and then we'll come down and see if the corn stocks are ready to go and i'm sure next week we're going to be doing a mix of fertilizing and tillage following week we'll be planting hard in the week after that maybe even planting and rolling seeing if we i don't know yeah we probably won't get we probably won't start soybeans that early but it's about to get busy here real quick so this here if you're not new to the channel is that 17 or so acres of alfalfa been to alfalfa for quite a few years the stand was getting pretty poor just getting old you know how it does starts thinning out and so we sprayed it off and then we chiseled it and so now it's really rough we're planting corn into it this year but we don't want to plant into that type of stuff with those ridges we would get a bad stand so we're hitting it with the super culture smooth it out make it so planting goes better get a better stand and hopefully get a little bit better yield what sucks is it's probably going to be bumpy so we're going to throw an ab line down get rolling hello why'd you get all little bit dusty [Music] do [Music] so [Music] you can see how rough that is in that trench pretty curious to see how much moisture is underneath here and there's some we're definitely going to need a rain [Music] oh yeah i still got it it's been a minute since we did some tillage it's all about seeing how close he can get without crossing the lane and then holding the camera in one hand and talking to the camera adds a little little spice to it that's some decent looking soil that field right next to or on the other side of that grass we did some more chiseling just a little bit on the edges on the headlands indros whatever you want to call it probably just a handful of acres and it should be real quick and then lastly i'm going to make one round in the corn in a corn field where we've been spreading that manure when we clean out the buildings and see if it works it up nice see if it's cracking sizing the material the stover on top the corn stalks really and then see if it works up the dirt nice or if it's a little too wet and it's leaving big clumps of dirt we don't want that [Music] [Music] all right we're in the last field that we're planning on going to today this cornfield we're just going to cut across flute back around see what it looks like there's some poo in there i like it seems like the right amount of moisture here uh-huh uh-huh that vt definitely doesn't work much soil we're mostly chopping your nice fruit we're a little smaller than this one thing that i just really don't enjoy about this coulter as you can see these tires aren't even on the ground it doesn't have enough weight or something it just doesn't get down in the ground like i want it to you know i really feel like i mean that's the whole point of these tires is your depth control well if you're not even getting i mean if the tires are completely off the ground and they're still not getting into the ground doing it they're not doing anything i don't know this machine is a super culture it's not supposed to be chucking dirt flipping dirt like crazy you know it's not a disc it's supposed to be a minimum till type machine but sometimes i just wish to do more i don't know i do like how that looks well i made a mistake has been feeding these guys a bale keeping feeding in front of them making sure that they are always somewhat preoccupied it keeps them off the fences a lot we did set a hot wire up they've knocked it down twice this helps a little bit the other night we had one that was on the highway that is not a good situation remember what we're you and i we're doing christmas day on dirt this is this is our christmas day right here we held all this clay in around that cement pad the family wasn't coming till saturday so it was a thursday and we worked best dang christmas ever i don't know about that but it was so boring so i just basically sat here in the skid loader by myself and waited for you to bring a load of clay from eight miles away you could have held more i could have helped more yeah you could have drove truck and leveled and i just loaded that would have took way more time i have a fritter where'd that come from i don't know stuff shows up that looks good today we got the bowls tested we started some tillage looks like later this week we'll be doing more tillage maybe some fertilizing uh that's all i gotta say about that tomorrow morning i'll know what's wrong with my knee if anything and so that'll maybe be fun or not i don't know it lamps so i bet there's something wrong that's all i gotta say about that so we'll see you next time thanks for watching have a good one what's that i'm not sure [Music] would you like some stroopwafel
