And that's why we have gas regulators. Not on the AR-15 family of rifles, though, unless we're talking the newer HK416s, the Ruger SR-556, and a few others.

That's why I prefer gas piston variants of the M4/AR platform, like the HK416. Direct Impingement gas systems are dirty and antiquated IMO
a subsonic 223 is just a glorified .22 LR.. ( AKA useless in combat)
You mean it turns the M4 into a single-action rifle. That's a lot different than semi-automatic.
The bigger issue is that subsonic .223 is practically equal in every way to a .22lr
This can be fixed with a little upgrade to the gun (or change) You can easily get a AR15 to cycle with Sub ammo.
New bolt and buffer/sping.
tho, the main reason for silencers isnt really to make them quiet - its to make them less loud, in LE/MIL you just wanna not blow gas in your mates face, and or have less flash and ring/echo indoors.
