2020 Mercedes-Maybach vs The Cheapest Maybach You Can Buy

i said it i said it the right way no james listen you got away with porsche and you got away with passat you cannot get this one wrong last time we did one of these cars we pronounced the name wrong completely and that's all we heard about in the comments okay so try it again i don't understand why i have to say it in the native tongue [Music] i don't say prosciutto or barcelona or chorizo oh but you say gallardo not gallardo that's because the people that say gelato are savage okay we're gonna try one more time you ready yeah okay maybe [Music] are you okay do you need a glass of water somebody peed my pants you're watching throttle house i'm thomas that's james and this is a brand new mybach and we're comparing it to a mybach from 2007 [Music] mybach maybach mybach whatever you want to say outside of rolls-royce and bentley this is the pinnacle of luxury like its vehicles the name carries some serious weight and today we want to see if the new ones are worthy of donning it because as is tradition they don't come cheap a highly specced new s560 like this example from mvl leasing in oakville thanks guys for letting us feature this will run you about 250 000 canadian dollars or about two hundred thousand dollars u.s and yet somehow that's a lot cheaper than the my box of just a decade ago and you get all of mercedes-benz's cutting-edge luxury and technology but i think you shouldn't have to spend that much because even though this mybach57s originally almost cost half a million dollars canadian now it costs half the price of that new one at 109 000 canadian about 80 grand us we found this 2007 mybach57s the one with the bi-turbo v12 and it is the cheapest maibok we could find in canada back in 2007 this 57s was the special mybach the s literally stands for special and because it was so expensive and so unique when it came out we have a feeling it's held up pretty well so a huge thanks to cbnc leasing and creek bank furniture for letting us feature it so we'll get back to driving in a minute but first thomas and i are going to talk about the styling and what makes them so remarkable inside if you're new to throttle house we do car reviews track speaking of the front if you put a normal person right here and ask them to tell you which brand of car each one was they'd say that's a mercedes and that's a maybach well no they wouldn't because well no one knows what a mybach is really like a normal person but this obvious this bad what are you doing oh my god it moved it was just no it's meant to move it's meant to be i realize you had no respect for property no it's literally meant to do that and it says my block right there obviously this does say my block on the front but this has the badge and and it has the badge in the headlights oh yeah it's really nice and when it lights up the the badge is dark but the light is no it does it does seem more my buck from here yes but that's a much better looking car this is unincredible no this is gangly yeah what was going on with this that's old mercedes yeah no it's just not it's not it's not really a good looking front this is a beautiful front with the exception of this ridiculous like that's addition no is it highness heinous no it's not high it's like it's it's not heinous no yeah no it's not it's not this is high tech right we got adaptive cruise control coming out i have adaptive cruise control on this do you see a big stupid panel no but then this also has these open up like a galley on a warship and the camera comes out yeah okay so it's a camera though it's like it's a cannon it is it's a cannon camera there you go pirates started a photo company but i i people will have made up their opinions about how this looks i think it it does it does look more unique than the s-class in the way this doesn't no this looks like an s-class with a two-tone paint job you could get this yeah in this one wasn't spec with it but you can get this in a two-tone in this in this side plane yeah like like from here well i mean it's the same as this though yeah no i like the two-tone it gives it some sense of occasion which is this neat i have a peeve with this though okay these look like cankles and if anyone doesn't know what that is what it's it's when it's when the cough they do look like it goes into the ankle with no independence yeah so it's so disgusting it's calf to foot and that's what this looks like it does look like a kicker it looks horrible now that i've pointed but if we look at the back yeah that's kind of when this continues to be a mai bark and this becomes just an s-class because even though this is a divisive design and is it divisive or is it device no that's definitely devices we've had this we've had this conversation before yeah you need to go back to school no it could be divisive because it's division of opinion people deserve better and their opinion is i deserve better than what you're giving me no no their their opinion is wrong because this looks like a weird clown face like there's a big smile why so serious yeah exactly but it looks different at least this just looks like an s-class yeah i will give you that we do have the huge amazing monoblock wheels though yes and i forgot to point this out how many brake calipers do you have on your car uh i see one good one yeah well i have two why why not more stopping however we do have a special mybach wheel and we got this you can only get on the mai box this like stripey and this one what did we say this this shows this can only be had if you have it does creak a little bit it is modern day mercedes yeah oh yeah um this signifies that someone has purchased the executive rear seating package do you remember that that's right i remember that from a year ago wow yeah amazing james no yeah so the these fingerprints that i've added to this bit this part here is in oh wait a second is that it watch this let me see what's more magic well it's just no i can do it i can do it just we're just gonna it's not sudden uh another interesting thing is it hasn't been as standard a 28 speaker maybe 27 now i think of it burmester high-end sound system which has the tweeters that spin out in an unbelievable fashion this is now and and uh you know very comfortable i got it i got it okay okay okay i was lost so check it out opens this way and opens this way yeah that's very that is so cool again more more trickery turns out you can get an iphone cable jammed into the mechanism which will ruin it completely but yeah so as standard we have massaging seats we have ventilated seats heated seats and they're on now yes thank you alcantara headliner the rest is this is good the rest of it's just an s-class really how can you say just an yes it's an s-class right there's an iwc exactly exactly you could put that in a pinto and you'd love it all right the best part of this car is obviously experienced in the back let's have a look okay all the pillows are so nice tell me that's not the most comfortable thing ever it's crazy and we can still control our magic sky from here all right oh that's so nice oh nope okay hey are you just pushing around the buttons now i'm trying to figure this out i haven't what do i have oh well that's oh i got double glazing on my clothes why is that going up now because you pushed you pulled the button to release it executive seating package so we have some cool stuff going on yes um our remotes for our tvs gotta have those i got mine in my door here with this bit what's this thing i don't know a little all cool i can't wait to show you the headphones in the backseat of the old one i'm going to guess they're absolutely identical to those 100 identical yeah yeah okay anyway so yeah so we got a cool drinks with champagne flute champagne flutes owl you okay yep i just wanted to see these they're tables yeah yeah they're pretty impressive they do it they pivot well they are a little bit impressive i i really really can't wait to show you the back seat of that old my bike seriously has it reinvented tables it has reinvented because my back is a cut it's always cutting edge yes it is it has to be quality of them oh no look look i have a little foot rest the heel rest that comes out now you've scuffed it i've well i'm wearing shoes i feel wrong wearing shoes in the back of one of these speaking of which let's go see what that one looks like okay so you might have noticed on the way in that these doors actually stop at any point that you want with like a little electro like hydraulic mechanism so i can put them anywhere and they'll stay and they have soft clothes interesting inside the sith the sith that's right no magic sky no um just sky yeah but there's some pretty cool uh stuff i will show you in the back seat in a second okay that will blow your mind because we have to remember this was like 300 000 400 000 a lot of money and this is only a couple years newer than that rolls royce that we tried in california and honestly this is a much nicer interior than that generation rolls royce it's held it's held together better yes physically as well because feel that yeah like it's rock solid there's no creep and this is on the carbon fiber you're pushing right now so we've heard we've heard recently that like people haven't experienced creeks on mercedes vehicles yeah europe if they're based in europe so if they're assembled there yeah so i'm wondering that may be why this is more solidly built maybe because even that new mybach still so this has the carbon fiber trim it does because it's the 57 s right you usually comes with like some special like african walnut or something like that but in the 57s you get the carbon fiber which is very very nice um this is a pretty dated interior when if you look at the infotainment of the gauge cluster but the quality and the thought is really high-end i see you've noticed my large arm rest here that doesn't open it doesn't open no so they obviously panicked and then added extra storage in every other place they could possibly think of check on the side you get this huge like map pocket thing you got a button there oh yeah that opens all the way up okay we have check this out here so we open this is how we put our curtain in the back closed so that your driver can shield you from the horrors of the outside world and here's our cup holders check this out they come emerging out they do look cool in a weird kind of we have massaging seats you do a massage ventilated seats he didn't ventilate the ventilation i really think that the font is cool in the gauge cluster the font is they could have gone just for a normal font and they didn't no it's obviously they tried to make it different from the mercedes what's the take here no it's crazy we've got backup sensors backup cameras adaptive cruise control adjusted suspense adjustive adjustable adjusted adjustable so if that word isn't adjustable then that's wrong um let's check out the back seats because there's it just gets crazier as we go back okay okay these do soft there they go the screen's closed feel squeaky all right notably these aren't nearly as comfortable as the back seats in the old one uh no no which one's much anymore it's aged so well yes it has but sitting back here you have to admit this is a bit more of an occasion those are awesome i would like to direct your attention to the gauges right those look like they should be on the dashboard of like a classic supercar yes speed time and temperature how cool is that facets of humanity and we've got some matching style stuff in fact there's a lot of style going on here i'm starting to notice yes these seats the way this shoulder comes out that's not style that's actually where the seat belt goes did you notice that there's no seat belt attached to the wall right there oh yeah fancy i would not why would i want to have to look at a seat belt i just get this is disgusting am i right uh there's a filing cabinet back here yeah okay so there's lots of stuff going on so remember remember i said that there's a lot of storage yes it has not ended back here so yeah oh yeah so we've got this and i tried to figure out what this was is it a garage it might be a garage door opener but like it it attaches to this and then this whole unit comes don't break it no we've already broken something okay so we're just a new one oh my god i'm sorry sorry i thought it was soft closed it's not okay but remember i was talking about the uh check these out well hidden right oh they do that they've assumed right now open that up how mechanical does that sound and they are carbon fiber how cool is that right well you just i don't know you don't why would you need to be closer to your ah they're really cool i figured it out i figured it out so you push that i'm sorry okay things hap worth wall in your house [Laughter] okay so yes no but this is beautiful carbon fiber that is how you do i can't believe how i didn't notice them they are weird they are so well hidden they're just they because look at they become part of the console there's an asteroid there's an ashtray also check out this sos button right right right right right oh my okay okay no i didn't have to because it opens up and there's so you don't accidentally press the sos button it's actually really satisfying to press that how cool is and there's a red button underneath the panel but we don't have a rear sunroof here or magic sky do you want to know why why because right above us is a solar panel james oh like the new sonata hybrid sure this is just a hyundai yeah but from many years ago there's a solar panel that so that when you go into a store and do some shopping the car is maintained temperature so when you get back at it it's not uncomfortably hot it uses solar panel to power the hvac that's very cool very cool anyway so storage here right that's for your champagne flutes okay because there is a cooler in here wow right so it does all the stuff i'm not done well i'm not done by the way i've i've saved the piece to resistance for the very end did i say that correctly yeah i think it is france i'm from france yeah um check out my headphones oh no way these are the ones in the back of yours these are a little bit bigger it was a lie back by dre oh my god they're free wow they really cancel the noise um can you hear james you smell funny thank you okay so it's not a scented cabin no it's not actually it is a scent um and then i have another storage compartment here another storage compartment down there which i don't need and have i saved the best for last i think i have you know what that doesn't even look dated no weirdly this looks incredibly modern i don't know why are these these are massaging seats by the way back here uh okay yeah gotta have them gotta have them i got these tvs the tvs are a bit dated the graphic of the maybach looks pretty good it does look good but other than that no that's yeah yeah that's pretty old that's pretty old okay are you ready okay so first of all down here uh we have a 12 volt plug that's amazing right yeah great absolute ps3 okay hold on remember how your your car with the magic sky uses the force very fancy star wars this is a sith which means i have more power so check this out okay first of all this is where you put your champagne flutes okay you have that as well right keep your eye keep your eye on this okay i'm gonna put this back in okay you're watching it don't look away now i'm gonna push this again and open it up right that understands what do you mean close push now right i'm gonna figure this out are you though because i can't explain to me no it's unbelievable that is the coolest feature of this entire car well here's one thing we haven't figured out though if the drive can even match that so i'm going to stay here okay on your hat even though you haven't got one and go take me for a drive okay how you feeling good i'm expecting smooth luxury yeah that's what this does ready and launch what was that that was oh my god the power it's ridiculous this is a twin turbo v12 with 738 pound-feet of torque which is the same torque number as a pagani huawei because this shares most of the engine with the pagani huawei but not the weight but not the weight i can believe that though my god that moves so it's ridiculous foot down oh it's so quick and it's that v that smooth v12 in completely buttery creamy smooth the transmission i would say maybe is a little bit showing its age i guess but i mean the rest of it is so as we've realized you have six brake calipers six brake calipers you can manage that power yes which does mean service costs a lot not only does it have six brake calipers it has three brake fluid reservoirs and if you had to replace so i don't know let's say an alternator in a my box it would be fifteen thousand dollars for the part and if you could even find one you can't so you go on ebay and buy one used for eight thousand well then you still have to pay labor at your machine yes and you know that it's just not gonna be an easy swap so everything about owning this car is going to be mind-bendingly expensive but for a hundred grand does anything ride like this you know what coming into this day i was thinking about the the audi a8 because that's a brand new that's about the same price as this yes and that drives i would say very similar to like that feels as soft as this i would say but this has a little bit more of a let's feel we credited the a8 for having it or the essay at least we created this credits because it has a crazy suspension system yeah this does have air suspension though but that said having gone through all the interior stuff i think this feels more like with the dials and the seat belts and there's something so unique about it that it absolutely does special does feel special well at the time mercedes mercedes maybach threw everything they could at it right so i'm going to spit some history at you tell me when i get boring this is now this is based on a w140 s-class which is the crazy over-built s-class from the 90s that everyone loved right okay and then the w-220 came after it which is the one that was the accountants were like you have to stop losing money let's make this cheaper now and they did and it wasn't awesome so this has a lot of w220 tech and interior stuff but it's based on the chassis with w140 but it has suspension from the w220 a little bit of suspension for the w140 so it's this weird mishmash which they've called the w240 mybach that's the chassis james james i'm done now okay yeah anyway the point is is that they threw everything they could at this car at the time the problem though is that when this car came out the new s-class was out so it was maybe slightly better on the inside that's worth noting the point is is that the ownership experience of one of these would be scary scary is the word scary well it's already experienced so much depreciation how much more can it drop yeah i can't wait to get this for christmas with ten bucks inside ten years and my god the way it moves that power and here it is again how crazy is that so smooth and then the one we have today the new one yes is the bi-turbo v8 right so the the there is a 12. yeah there is a 12 and it has the same amount of torque it's very similar to the the to this engine except it's had upgrades and stuff but i'm looking forward to seeing how the bicep opa or reminding myself how the bi-tab ova is in the new mybark let's go try it wow a new one that's not slow no this actually also does about 60 miles an hour in under five seconds it's ridiculous that both of these do that speed like under five seconds that's a sports car i don't get to look at a my buck symbol in front of me i just get the mercedes just a mercedes symbol that's right but it still feels all my buck because i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this is smoother than the old one by by a factor of five or ten percent it's so nice back here yeah it's good it's so i i didn't respond to what you said it's it's smoother okay it's smoother but it's not that much smoother it's not a what did you say a factor of i zoned out five to ten percent no oh five percent yes not by five times no no no no it is it is a couple percent smoother i'll give you that and they've tuned it this isn't like even though this is a quiet turbo v8 this isn't like a c63 but they've tuned it so it's all smooth right luxury yeah well they could make those turbos come on in a more aggressive fashion but it just it just slowly whumps you with torque because i have the only the required four brake calipers this is very easy to modulate yeah smooth on braking yes the brakes are pretty touchy in that old one yeah and the acceleration as well and the gearbox who's going around these corners that is really impressive yeah it oh you can push this you know oh wow oh my god that's a lot of mass to manage that is it it's doing a good job but you can tell how much it weighs and you can't see what speed i'm doing back there because you haven't got any no i can't turbo well you do have a huge digital readout that the old one is like a huge digital readout yeah yeah yeah no okay so this is a more sophisticated car yes you get that it's true it wins it also costs three times the price james yeah but it's a bed of roses you know a pleasure cruise all items i coined freddie mercury didn't come up with either of those and even in the driver's seat i have extreme comfort like i've got the ventilated seats on right now they're not massaging me because it still feels like i'm being poked a little bit i kind of wanna i'm going to put my ventilated seats on they make a bit of a noise so yeah given the fact that this is coming on 300 000 canadian dollars it's a lot of money that's a lot of money it's still half the price of rolls-royce money yes and it must be said that it is not as good as a rolls royce not a sports car angles man oh my god genuine fear if you buy this now yes you can't send your kids to college because you're going to lose 200 grand in the next few years oh yeah you have the choice you have the choice of this or yes college yeah i said that in the united states and it was like three grand a year yeah no it it definitely does make sense to lease a vehicle such as this i would say personally which is what this one is meant for with mpl yes exactly so it does need to be said that these cars depreciate harder than any other car on the planet and everyone in the commons loves to tell us just how much they depreciate we don't buy it we haven't bought we haven't bought them we know this yes it depreciates as hard as it accelerates which i think is about a fair conclusion for these cars but so comfortable so opulent incredible incredible vehicles and very commanding of the price i don't think that the price reflects on the old one i think the price reflects the quality of the car and the ride i think it reflects how much it costs to keep it running it would be more if it was more bulletproof [Music] did you did you just pee yourself no that was earlier i saw a really good condition old miata he waved at me no one what's this no no one
