Idahoan mashed potatoes mixed with sardines is my favorite, it's delicious and very very filling (especially if you keep the oil from the sardines).

Grocery co-ops and bulk stores are also great places to get dehydrated foods. My local coop has very inexpensive dehydrated veggies, hummus, and falafel mix, as well as various noodles.

Asian stores are great for things like dehydrated mushrooms and some dehydrated seafood.

if you're tired of spending too much money on prepackaged dehydrated backpacking meals and when you look at the ingredients list you're not too happy about it then in this video I'll show you how to make ten backpacking meals straight from the grocery store with no dehydration required first of all where do you buy your stuff I find that Walmart has about the best selection of foods for this use that I've been able to find for instance for proteins they have a dazzling array of pouch seafood available my favorites are the pouches of salmon and tuna you can buy them unflavored or flavored which will add a little bit of extra zing to your meals pouch chicken is really delicious on the trail but they come in seven ounce packages which is a little much for one meal it's perfect for two people though there's an incredible variety of spam something I never eat at home but it's a great fat source on the trail the single serving pouches are perfect for lunch or a light dinner they can provide salt and fat to the bits seem to be the most reasonably priced and are not messy and don't require any cutting I've tried the prepackaged shelf-stable bacon and it makes kind of a mess when you cook with it shelf-stable sausage like pepperoni is also a great fat source and really tasty on the trail for starches there's tons of Nohr pastas with sauces when they buy the pasta and sauce together it's less hassle and preparation it does require dehydrated milk to go with it though for the creamy flavor Minute Rice and couscous are a great starch there's no boiling required you just add boiling water to them and they rehydrate in just a couple of minutes angel hair pasta is a big favorite of mine because it also doesn't require any boiling after you add the hot water to the noodles Idahoan mashed potatoes are fantastic they're versatile you just add boiling water to them and there's tons of flavors available Idahoan potato soups make a great chowder you add tuna or salmon I divide the soup packages in half for two different meals flavored stuffing is great with poultry you can make Thanksgiving on the trail our first meal is tuna pasta take a Northside and a tuna packet and some dehydrated milk next is mashed potatoes with pepperoni and cheese sauce next we'll do spammin my favorite lunch which is ramen noodles with spam then couscous with chicken spice it up with a little bit of olive oil polenta with pepperoni and mushrooms makes a great Italian meal number six is chicken with rice any powdered soup will add extra flavor number seven is the seafood chowder with the Idahoan potatoes and in this case a tuna packet number eight is stuffed chicken powdered gravy is really good with this two egg drop soup is really good made with the overeasy egg crystals and the addition of a little teriyaki pork turkey really adds a lot of extra flavor to it creamy chicken pastas are really good the Knorr sauces make preparation a snap I hope this video has opened your eyes to the possibilities of making your own backpacking meals from items you can find in the grocery store thanks for watching click like and subscribe below if you found this video to be useful
