you can draw this african sunset in procreate all you have to do is follow the video all the way till the end I will guide you through every step you can create the landscape with the brushes that are already in procreate and at the end I add some giraffes from my animal brush back but that's just optional if you follow this video all the way till the end and you can share your work on Instagram as well and be sure to tag me in the image and not just in the description it that way I will be able to find your work and perhaps you'll see your artwork in the next you can draw this video so go ahead grab your pen or your finger and let's get started painting first of all the canvas is 3000 pixels by 2,000 pixels and I have created a color palette which you can download through the link in the description we'll start off with a background let's pick this fourth color in the color palette and let's drop it onto our canvas and now we'll go grab the soft brush which you can find under airbrushing and now let's go ahead and add some light let's use this yellow for that and the brush is set to 40% opacity and the size well we can go for around 20% and let's add some light I want to place the Sun around here later on in the process so I'll make this area lighter and to smoothen this gradient we can go to the magic wand and pick Gaussian blur now if you drag your finger or pen to the right it'll blur the layer and let's go for somewhere around 3035 percent next I'll make a new layer on top of this layer and let's pick this third color in the color palette I'm still using a soft brush but I'll make it a bit smaller perhaps 10% and I want to create some distant clouds I'll just make some baubles well just a soft Ridge it's like some mountains but very soft you don't have to worried that much about the bottom you can go over again to create a darker cloud it's very much faded into the background but it'll give some depth to our painting a bit like this next we are going to add a layer for our grass we'll make a new layer for that again so we'll click the plus in the layer menu and we will pick this very dark color that first color in the color palette and I'll make the brush even smaller 7% and now I'll just make a plane for our grass you can make these horizontal strokes and go up to about here [Music] of course you can rotate your canvas if you prefer making diagonal strokes if that gives you a bit more control I'm just making a dark plane here for our grass and for our tree and make sure that your brush isn't too big so that edge doesn't become too blurry era now we already have a base for our african sunset let me just darken this area a little bit more that's better now I want to add some small trees to our background I will be doing that on a layer below our grass layer let's click the plus here and for our brush we will go to artistic and use the Leatherwood brush and for our color we'll stick with this darkest color in the color palette and let's check our brush size that's around four or five percent now let's start drawing in some trees in our background I'll start with those leaves you can check some reference images of those typical African trees I'm not sure what they're called but I'm sure you know which ones I mean you can just look up some landscape paintings no not landscape paintings landscape pictures to reference images of Africa of the savanna to get an idea of the shapes for these trees and I'll make some of them pretty close to that horizon and some on this side as well [Music] and perhaps a bit more leaves over here and now we can add some tree trunks I'll go to the drawing brushes for that and use the Eagle Hawk brush and still sticking with that dark color let's make our brush pretty small perhaps around 5% and let's draw in some tree trunks now when I make a you can draw this video of course I plan out every little thing of the painting process I actually practice painting this multiple times thinking about the steps and how I can make it easy for you but if you are curious how I approach painting something from scratch starting out with a sketch if you're curious about my entire process when painting then you might like my patreon page because there in my videos I usually don't plan out every step I take you through my process of painting so from the beginning till the end from my rough sketch till the finished product so I'll just leave a link in the description if you're interested just some tree trunks some branches there and now I would like to blur this layer a bit because it's in a distance it's a bit foggy so you won't be able to see individual leaves or really see a crisp outline of these trees so let's go to the Gaussian blur again by going to the magic wand pick Gaussian blur and slide to the right and I think I like this somewhere around five percent and now let's move to our foreground now we are going to make our iconic tree in our foreground I've made a new layer on top of all the others and I would actually like to start out with the with the leaves again with the letter would brush and a very dark color of course you could also start out with the tree trunk and the branches and then add the leaves which feels more natural I guess but I like making that shape of that foliage first I'll set the size of the brush to around 5% and I'll start adding these leaves I'm making horizontal strokes I'm thinking about that shape of the tree it's like a curve it's a bit higher at the center and I would really recommend looking at some photographs of these trees to get an idea for the shape of your tree just keep making horizontal strokes try to vary the amount of pressure that you use on your brush and I'm adding most of the of the leaves at the top of the tree and I'm making less leaves towards the center there you will see those those branches now let's start working on that trunk and those branches and then we can later on always add some more leaves we'll paint the tree trunk on a layer below our leaves layer so we'll go to layer three first then click the plus for a new layer and we'll use that Eaglehawk brush again which you can find under drawing now I'll just start at the center of the tree and make a branch going down all the way here where that trunk will be and now let's decide how thick our trunk will be I guess something like this and it gets thinner as you go up now we'll just have to fill it and just do it up by hand and now we have a base for our tree well of course it has more branches so let's go in this direction all the way to the leaves and there the bottom the branches are thicker and they will get thinner as you move towards those leaves I'm trying to make the major well the thick branches first and then later you can add some thinner branches as you go near that top those branches become thinner let's make a thicker one here [Music] [Music] making some wobbly lines don't make perfect diagonals perfect lines these branches look very organic because of course they are organic just try to vary the shapes and they'll all end up between those leaves you might have noticed these black lines on my arm that's actually my new tattoo it's not finished yet these are chesta lines but in a couple of weeks you will be able to see the end result just make sure really make sure that you make them thicker near the trunk and then thinner towards the ends that's really important otherwise it won't look natural if you're having trouble making thin lines Inc and of course always make your brush of it smaller if you need more control I'm just continue adding branches until you feel that it's enough and then we can switch back to that leaves layer the layer five go back to the artistic brushes and pick the leather wood and then you can just add a couple of more leaves now don't you have those branches you can make the brush a bit smaller let's say three percent and you can add some more leaves near the trunk filling some parts up a little bit adjusting the shape of that trees crown [Music] and make sure that you keep some gaps between those leaves don't go filling up you had an entire shape you want some light to shine through through that tree I like our little tree for our next step let's start adding some grass and I have found a perfect brush for that first let me make a new layer on top of the tree and let's go to the organic brushes where are they here organic will be using the toy brush let's pick a lighter color let's start out with this one the third color in the color palette and we are going to start build up some grass here the brush is set to a hundred percent opacity and the size is well let's go for 25 percent and we are going to make some almost vertical slightly diagonal lines and we'll go in a well a horizontal direction but making these diagonal strokes and we're not making a perfectly straight line from left to right try to vary it up a little bit make some of your strokes a bit lower and some a bit higher to make it look more organic and if you push harder then your stroke will be more opaque so making this grass is a bit more challenging we're just using your finger you could try to lower the opacity of your brush then and we're focusing on the center of our grassy plain we're not making that much grass on the sides just focusing on the center you and you can blend in this grass a bit by picking that local color you can just hold your finger on the screen and then going over with that darker color again that way you can blend in the grass a little bit [Music] you can vary the color you can also go for a lighter color like this one to add even lighter grass and then you can switch back to that dark color to blend it in a bit more then we have a nice grassy texture in our plane we can also go over the area near to horizon a bit just to add some of that texture how do we have our tree and we have our grass it's time to add the Sun in our sunset let's create a new layer for that let's just make a new layer above all the others by clicking the plus and for our brush we'll go to the calligraphy brushes and use them on align brush now for the color will use this brightest color now let's draw a circle you can just hold your pen in place to let it snap to a perfect shape and if you hold one finger on your screen it'll snap to a perfectly round circle now of course we don't want our son to be infront of our tree so let's just drag that son underneath our tree that's better and now I want to blur this Sun a little bit so we'll go to the magic wand and use the Gaussian blur just drag your pen to the right a little bit now let's go for somewhere around 4% and now let's duplicate this layer we'll slide to the left on the layer and click duplicate go to the layer below and we'll blur this one even more so we'll go to the magic wand again use Gaussian blur and drag to the right and this time we'll go for something around 30% but we want even more glow so we'll make a new layer on top of our Sun and this one we will adjust the layer blending mode on this one click the end and drag down until you find color Dodge and this will give a nice colorful bright effect will use the soft brush for this which you can find under airbrushing and for our color we'll pick this bright yellow color and let's make our brush a bit bigger somewhere around 20% and will create a glow around our Sun [Music] and I'm using very little pressure slowly building that glow up and if you want to soften it a little bit you can go to the magic wand again and use a Gaussian blur just slightly too soft and the effects a little bit now finally I want to add a glow to our tree as well what I'll do is I'll just merge these two layers of the tree and while the tree trunk and the leaves will just pinch them together and we'll make a new layer on top of this tree layer by clicking the plus and we'll set this layer to clipping mask now it is clipped to that tree and that means whatever we paint on this layer 10 it will only show up on layer 6 and we'll set this one to color dodge as well so just click the end and then go to color Dodge we'll use the same brush same color so we still have the soft brush we have set it to yellow and now we will go over the leaves giving them a nice red glow this way you can also make a brush a bit smaller let's go to around 7% and we can go over the tree trunks a little bit while the branches [Music] making them glow in the Sun now I would like to go back to that other color dodge layer layer 10 and I'll pick the soft airbrush this is a bit little bit smaller airbrush and I would like to add some tiny clouds the brush opacity is set to 60% and the size is set to 20% and now let's just add some subtle clouds making some small circular motions and I'm keeping that bottom of the cloud a bit horizontal it's like a horizontal line with some slight bumps on top one more here and we can make some on the left side as well so I'm keeping the underside horizontal and then some little bumps on top making very subtle little clouds [Music] that gives it a little extra now the landscape is finished but of course you could add some animals you can draw these in by hand but I've also created a well an animal brush pack with a lot of animal stamps I've actually created two scents full of different animals like giraffes elephants Birds deer and I have made an animal's brush pack volume 2 which has even more animals like buffalo hyenas lions lots of animals but for now I would like to add two giraffes now this step is entirely optional but in case you want to use these animal stamps as well I'll leave a link with a discount in the description for the color of this brush I will go for this very dark color well let's go for the darkest the first color in the color palette and we'll have to create a new layer for the animals I will place them I'll just be load at grass let's make a new layer right here and let's place a giraffe and you can use the Move tool to move it around make it a bit bigger like that and we can place another giraffe on another layer let's pick this one and let's drop it in there and we can use the move tool again to make it slightly bigger move it around like that and to make them merge with the surroundings a bit more you can go to that grass layer and we'll go to the organic brushes again and use that twig brush and you can pick that local color and just place some grass in front of those giraffes you can also pick a lighter color add some lighter grass that way they are nicely merged into the surrounding that's it you've created an African sunset I hope you have enjoyed following this video tutorial if you did then be sure to check out my other you can draw this videos as well you can get started with these two videos over here and I will see you next time
