hey guys welcome back to another video and today we're going to be talking about whether or not you should become a twitch affiliate in 2021 let's get into it first and foremost i want to thank you guys for stopping by the channel if you're new here and you're interested in videos such as this or in entertainment news and other content creator tips then definitely hit that subscribe button for new videos every three days today i'm going to be talking about what it means to be a twitch affiliate how to attain that status and then making sure you guys analyze all your options before signing that contract with twitch because to be completely frank that's exactly what becoming a twitch affiliate is it's signing a contract with twitch that has some pretty strict rules and guidelines that you may or may not be aware of so without further ado let's get into the video if you're like me you're a gamer you know you've been playing games for years and you discover twitch as a platform that essentially streams you know thousands and hundreds of thousands of people just playing video games you stumble upon these people with hundreds and thousands of people watching this one person just playing video games and your immediate reaction is oh my god i play video games why can't i just livestream myself doing it and have the same thing happen to me but again that's our initial impression these people who have hundreds and thousands of people watching them did a lot more than just play video games over the last however long it took him to get to this point but inevitably being able to make money off of streaming is a really appealing thing that twitch puts on a platter right in front of us with the twitch affiliate program now to become a twitch failure you have to meet certain requirements these requirements may seem challenging but in the grand scheme they're really not that hard at all if you're to follow some basic principles which i'll lay out here in a second you'll actually be able to hit affiliate program pretty quickly the guidelines that you have to meet are 50 followers you have to stream for at least eight hours stream on seven different days and then have an average viewership of three people and you have to do all of this over a 30-day period now if you over stream if you don't advertise your stream if you don't post unique content on other platforms such as youtube tik tok instagram etc then you definitely will have a pretty hard time attaining these requirements but if you stream strategically with shorter streams just barely meeting the requirements of the seven days and making sure you stream at least eight hours and post unique content on these other platforms that i just laid out then you will definitely can almost guarantee you hit this within a 30 day period if not you know 40 days but this is where we get to the point of the video if you meet these requirements if you get the 50 followers get the average viewership which is probably the hardest one and you're excited you get the email and you're ready to actually accept this affiliate program this is where he gets the points should you actually accept the affiliate program twitch let me talk about a couple things with this in my opinion twitch makes this program very easy to actually attain and there's a reason for that there are a lot of pros that are great with the twitch affiliate program by becoming a twitch affiliate you are able to have subscribers to your channel you're able to accept bits for your channel you're able to get ad revenue for your channel and you know the list goes on with this but those are the main different things that you're able to attain you also get some sub emotes which are pretty badass as well all this sounds really great you know you're you're getting to the point where you're seeing these people who have hundreds and thousands of people watching them and you're like yes i made it to the point where i can make money off of this as well this is amazing but let's dig deeper into these actual pros that you're able to get with the twitch affiliate program let's say for example you have 10 dedicated people who are watching every single one of your streams which means you have an average viewership of 8 to 10 people which is really high for someone who's a smaller streamer that's i don't even have that and you know i have i have people who sub to me consistently but i don't even have that but for the sake of this example we're gonna say that you do let's say those 10 people sub to you every single month a sub cost five dollars if they're doing the tier one and with that you as a twitch affiliate get percent aka half of that five dollars so you get 250 per sub that means you're getting 25 bucks a month just from subscribers alone now let's talk ad revenue let's again let's say you have 10 15 maybe even 20 people watching your stream all the time then you have some ads going on your stream you're supposed to get a percentage of that right well twitch varies the ad revenue per region this is pretty common with with things that you know twitch is just doing different advertisements based off the region that you're in and the ones that are watching your stream and so there's something called cpm and in my regions you get three dollars and fifty cents per cpm now you're probably wondering george what the hell is the cpm exactly twitch doesn't really explain this unless you kind of dig deep into the actual questions within the twitch affiliate agreement but a cpn is cost per mile twitch describes cost per mile cpm as the industry standard term for cost per 1000 views on one ad aka the amount of money that you're paid per 1000 views so essentially what this is saying is per 1000 people watching this one ad then you get three dollars and fifty cents so putting that in perspective with your let's call it 20 people which again is really high there are many smaller streamers who only have two three five ten whatever people watching your stream whatever let's call it 20 people then 20 people watching that one ad you're essentially going to get about half one cent half a cent so over the course of a month of 20 people all watching your stream which again i want to stress is really high for someone who's a smaller streamer so again if you have 20 people which again i want to stress is really high for someone who's a smaller streamer that means you're you're in the top 1 percentile of twitch then you're essentially getting cents in a month with ad revenue so we've got our 25 from our subs we've got our cents that we're attaining from twitch let's call it a dollar which is really really high i don't think you're ever going to get that but let's just call it a dollar for the sake of this argument then the only other thing you have in terms of revenue coming in would be bits and donations but donations are kind of you can do that even when you're not an affiliate so i'm not really including that you can get donations you can add that into this equation later if you want to but bits are the only other thing you attain via being an affiliate and so with bits and cheering let's say you have some super generous people in your community and with the bits you get one cent per bits which does accumulate if someone's being super generous so if you were to do 100 bids you get one dollar et cetera so let's say you have some super generous people with your bits and i don't know you get 20 bucks a month with bits so now at this point for the whole month with bits with subs with your ad revenue you're essentially with the math i've done you're about 45 bucks let's call it 50 bucks for the whole month now i don't want to downgrade this 50 bucks is a lot just for playing video games making a community doing all the hard work you've done on your stream it's really fulfilling to see that come through and again if you're a twitch affiliate like me i don't want you to think that this isn't an achievement because it is especially if you have people subbing to you and they're giving you this money for doing such a great job with streaming so again great job to you if you've done this i'm just trying to put things into perspective money is money so 50 bucks is great but let's put this into perspective in two different things one twitch doesn't let you even receive the money until you have a payout of over a hundred dollars so in this exact example let's say you have two months of this you wouldn't be able to really get that money until the third month when the payout is being processed so it can take some time for you to rack up that amount of money and then the other thing is let's put this in perspective with like a minimum wage job most jobs at least in the us are between ten dollars and fifteen dollars an hour and so let's say you put in four to five hours of work it's gonna be about 50 bucks if not a little bit more uh if you're on the lower end of ten dollars an hour including the taxes and everything and so five to six hours of work at a minimum age job essentially makes what you made in a whole month of streaming of let's call it 40 to maybe even up to 80 hours of streaming so again i just want to put this into perspective because again a lot of us will get excited for making money off of video games i get excited to this day that i've made any money making video playing video games so again i i don't want to say that that's not an accomplishment because it is but i'm just trying to shift your perspective with twitch and the affiliate program specifically if you're not yet a twitch affiliate because there may be some other things you can do that are going to help you more long term to make more money and grow a lot faster whereas with twitch and the affiliate program i think that they make it easy on purpose so that you're able to get in there get excited get some subs and then you have that initial spike but then more than likely it's going to pan out and plateau and now you're stuck in the twitch affiliate program because you've signed over you know the agreement and you may not be able to grow with some of the strategies i'm about to say one of the main cons i have with the twitch affiliate program that again is my fault for not reading through the full agreements because again this is a contractor signing over with twitch and your profile that one thing they restrict with you guys when we become affiliates is you're not able to do what's called multi-streaming and so what i mean by this and what you know twitch is restricting us from doing is if i wanted to live stream to twitch youtube and facebook all the same time which you can do very easily with streamlabs obs i'm not able to do that and now you may be asking george why would you even want to do that and i mean to be completely frank twitch's discoverability is really bad it's a really bad platform for discoverability it's a great platform for the live stream experience and for viewers with channel rewards and you know subscribers bits donations all these different things you can do with your live stream i think that is all great for twitch but the discoverability aspect is the worst in my opinion of all the platforms out there so going back to multi-streaming if you're if you have the ability to do this with facebook youtube and twitch it triples your opportunity to be able to be discovered by new viewers and new people regardless of what platform they're initially coming in on you're able to get your name out there triple the times faster and to a diverse audience using these different types of platforms twitch used to be the one i'll be all with live streaming and it's really not the case anymore there was mixer which was really good in its heyday and i don't think microsoft did the right thing shutting that down but um that was a really great platform facebook gaming is a great platform that has really grown is going to continue to grow youtube live streaming and gaming is huge it's a lot bigger than people think and i think it's going to blow up even more in 2021 and to be frank there's more coming down the line i'm sure and with all these new platforms coming in twitch hasn't done a ton of new features for affiliates specifically that really keep me wanting to stay on the platform again they have a super super easy affiliate program and that's probably the best thing about twitch but it's also the worst thing because of these cons that they put into the agreement it allows people to build this community have a subscriber base at an early stage but it doesn't allow for any long-term growth with the platform because the lack of other features and restrictions that it's putting onto us as affiliates my advice for anybody who's not yet a twitch affiliate would be to not sign the agreement take the time to multi-stream take the time to explore these other platforms and really see what your options are that's available to you because again i think twitch is great but if you really get over the humps of you know how to figure out how to go live on facebook how to figure out how to go live on youtube and figure out all those you know restrictions that you're putting on yourself because they're not as culturally accepted in the streaming community then you'll figure out that there's a lot other options out there for you that you may actually like better my goal with this video is to try and shift your perspective a little bit not completely turn you off of twitch but make sure you know that there are other options available to you because again the youtube partner program and how to make money on facebook those aren't as easy as becoming a twitch affiliate but what i will say is if you put all the time and effort into those harder programs let's call it the youtube partner program then you may figure out that long term you're going to make a lot more money off of that because youtube allows for you to make more money off of the subscriptions that you get aka members on youtube it also allows for you to make way more money off the ad revenue that you're able to get and your youtube base will stay on there your live streams will stand there along with your unique content they're bringing out youtube shorts with a which is a competitive market to tick-tock there are many different things that youtube's doing to try and get bigger and better consistently that i just think twitch is falling behind on and my advice for anyone who's already a twitch affiliate like myself i would say that take the time to stream on a different platform once a week because i want to be frank you can stream on other platforms just not at the same time you're streaming on twitch so if you stream let's say five times a week take one of those five and stream on youtube or stream on facebook and dabble a little bit in other communities and see how it goes i've been taking the time to do this with youtube i stream right now on twitch and youtube switching off which one i'm going to be doing and my youtube experience has been pretty great it's been super eye opening for me and maybe for you you're fine being a twitch affiliate not making a ton of money off twitch that's totally fine if you're just doing this as a hobby then i understand that as well and maybe the twitch affiliate program is right for you but i'm trying to be a full-time content creator i want to do this in the long run i'm thinking long haul and so with that i just want to see what my other options are before i get too deep into the twitch affiliate program what a video what a tough topic to talk about too i know that this isn't really the easiest thing to talk about a lot of people have opinions on this i'm sure i'll see a bunch of people who are going to say twitch is the one and only i'm a die hard twitch fan you know i totally get it and that's fine but there are going to be some people out there that maybe get affected by this video and have a shift in perspective if you guys have any thoughts or comments on this i want you to actually take the time to put tibs you're crazy in the comments because then you'll also have a chance to be featured in my next video so i know that you made it through the whole video and then along with that give me your thoughts let me know if you took anything from this if you agree if you disagree if this changed your mind a little bit and if it did what are you going to be able to do to change your strategy please take time to like this video if you did find something useful from it and subscribe if you're interested in more videos like this as well as other content tips and entertainment news reviews etc because we're dabbling a ton of this stuff in 2021 i appreciate you guys thank you thank you and i'll see you in the next [Music] video you
