Why Won't our Planter Work?!

[Music] here morning we've got about 350 acres of corn planted so far with the planter things have gone pretty good for the most part there's definitely been a few small hiccups just trying to get some of the infield adjustments going a couple slowdowns with honestly just me not being used to running the computer it's a new system new new computer system for me some of the software is new the planter's all new and i'm so used to the way we've had it for the last 10 years that i'm not used to running it but we're going now we're headed down about five miles south of here i've got the seed tender on me right here uh dad and jim i've got the fuel truck they're going to be bringing that down to fuel things up and we'll get going this morning okay yeah maybe we asked brent what he thinks every farmer in the county is going wide open now but man whoever planted this field did a darn nice job thank you for calling the midwest machinery precision ag support line and there should be a planet there that you should be able to back out of i can see the coverage from last night but honestly it's it's too big of a field and i'm in the far opposite corner i'm almost a mile away and i can't zoom out far enough to see if that coverage is there or not it's just saying existing coverage and work data found resume to continue existing coverage and work data so i want to resume that right yep so that's what i did last night but now if i turn my section control on yeah it it blanks out all the rows it's not going to allow them to plant i got to turn that off in order to be allowed to plant well for a minute there i was feeling a little bit better because even the professionals can't exactly figure out what's going on so i thought i'd just go ahead and plant some of these ends because i got about 10 acres of seed left anyway and we can plant without that section control it just it creates a lot of overlap especially on these crooked end rows it wastes a little bit of seed it's a pain in the butt to combine but i can plant except now i can't plant anything even when i turn that off so there's definitely a problem unfortunately when i mentioned that there's been some bugs this is what i mean and a couple of the times it's just been me not understanding the software but it seems like in this case it's beyond that like i've i've done everything fine here but why why the planter just isn't going to put seed in the ground i don't know my ccs is running fine my vacs are on my epg is on it's all there there's no coverage what's going on here morning sarah i was actually just talking about you just like you knew did you get the message i sent you a minute ago i yeah and i was actually talking to cameron on the phone who took your uh call into the aggressive line okay and it's it's gotten worse in the last five minutes because now i can't plant at all even with swath control off it does that nothing and see i pulled up your operation center account here too and i found your tractor now it popped up as of last night at 9 40 9 15. it looks like were you at the staff gold yes that's about when i shut down last night on this piece i might have figured out now i'm not planting now because for whatever reason it went back to uh if i can get to the right page here it wants me to go to an rx prescription which i was not on last night in this field so why that changed overnight i don't know but that's why it's not planting now we may call you back with some things to try to maybe see if we can like force reset the mtg or something like that to see if that could help with the section control and being able to like look into your display to see what you have going on [Music] now i'm planting that's one issue figured out not the one i was concerned with though five to seven go ahead you must have gotten that horse all fueled up and going good yes sir we're going back and forth looking good all right if you can see where i'm at right now i'm just planting the ends around this slough i'm just going to go right to where the cut is through the woods here and i'll lift up and turn around so as i can see you don't have the end rows done to this point i'm all out of seed i'm so lost without you i know you were right [Music] do you think we should put the full tote in right because then we'll blend that other coat with it later in one side and then back together all right i mean this one's a little more empty but it lines up with the hybrid [Applause] that'll work i would say we got that one plenty full not a lot more that'll fit in there now door two turn the tail con there we go gonna have to make a little room here get that cover on now we're running way less than this side because this is a new hybrid that we're testing so we've only got 15 units of this compared to 50 of this one because we know this hybrid we know it's good this is supposed to be a hot new one that we're gonna test okay i'm in the tractor [Music] okay yep activations section control's got a green light applications section control yep it's down here turns green but you know yep address 127 shows the value at 255. okay so once again i'm feeling a little bit better about myself because the the software engineers that are out there to help me out are also struggling with it so what we're trying to do is update the software in the tractor so that it has brand new software and maybe that'll fix the section control issue but the problem is my mtg which is the brain box that accepts and sends software back and forth to deer is not being very brainy it's not communicating back and forth so that's the issue right now they don't know why that's happening but it's it's underneath the seat down here on the floor i'm not going to show it to you guys because i can barely get to it but i can see that it's on and it's responsive but it's not it's not talking the robot is currently non-robotic but other than the section control the planter itself is doing a fantastic job you can look here and see look at the numbers everything is green singulation is 99.8 percent 99.98 everything's running good and we're honking along at eight miles per hour covering 55 acres to the hour right now and that's at eight this thing will do 10 no problem it's just that the operator sitting behind the seat can't keep up with things at that it honestly seems like it does a better job at 10 miles an hour than it does at seven or eight it just it's me i'm i'm not fully comfortable going 10 miles an hour in a 60 foot wide planter yet but i'm getting there i'm just i'm nervous about rocks and tile risers and at 10 miles an hour i barely have time to go on instagram well i can plant with it but no the section control isn't going yet they're still going back and forth they're trying to push new software to it but the box that takes the software in isn't working wow you might have to go back to a four row planter huh [Music] i don't know about a four-row planter but we could maybe hook an old stagger onto this thing kidding totally kidding but those old tigers are pretty sweet maybe i'm not kidding okay okay so if you go back to setup everything is working now i'm cruising along i got the section control working we don't know exactly well i don't know exactly what it was but we had to restart new coverage it wasn't because of a boundary on old coverage i'm sure there's some people that are going to think that we had to restart new coverage and reassign the population it has something to do with the prescription variable rate seating maps from a different field than being outside of a zone there somebody watching this probably knows and is going to email me with the exact answer and uh and i'll appreciate that but um anyway we got it fixed right now so i lost my coverage on the main monitors here from yesterday but that's okay and actually the timing worked out where i was planting some new androids in a spot anyway and i've still got the coverage on my connect mobile so i'm up and running now whatever i'll i'll take it we're going we're golden let's go yeehaw 50 acres later and it appears as though i have a new issue i've tried clearing this out but there is clearly a downforce issue on row four five to four oh yeah just a heads up i'm guessing i have uh 15 minutes before i'll need seed or maybe only 10. okay um you probably don't need me over there do you nope i don't need you just so i get full of fuel before you head home okay so i did have this issue yesterday at one point row number four for some reason yes i know i already said that for some reason row number four we are bouncing over some sideways stuff i'm gonna slow down a hair here it's not holding the downforce like it should be and yesterday all i did was unplug and plug in the harness again and it came right back so let's go unplug and plug the harness back in again see if anything happens there uno dos grace por [Applause] so i pulled both plugs and just pulled on the pins because we've had some issues with a couple connectors having pins that weren't fully locked into place so we'll see but as long as we're out here i'm going to do some digging as well all right now the first thing we check is the seed depth i'm going for an inch and three quarter to two inches if i can find one here without flipping it out before i can check the depth there's one right there i just pushed him but i saw him there he is yeah so i know that looks pretty good if i set this across here go to the bottom of it it goes to this line on my finger which is an inch and seven eighths next thing i like to check is to make sure that the rows feel good as far as the pressure that's on the wheels it should be firm but not compacted right in through here i can make adjustments to the down pressure on the gauge wheels that control the depth and keep the row units from bouncing and i can make pressure changes to what we call the closing wheels that close the seed trench after it drops the seed in everything looks pretty good here it seems like this planter has been really consistent but the conditions have been fantastic as well the last couple days so i think we carry on ah maybe i should hit the restroom first anybody in there oh we're good we are out of the hybrid that we are testing so now we're going to top off the other side refill us some seed here [Music] needs a little choke that's right ladies this j m lc 390 speed tender does in fact have an automatic tilt dispenser on it we do really like this seed tender pretty sweet hello hey daryl zach um i've got row number four that i it doesn't want to run the same downforce as any of the other ones it's always low and once in a while it's telling me to check the wiring harness because the sensor says it's got low voltage i can send you a picture of it okay i got it raised up here begin cal speed zero planters raise next select next to zero em that's it that's all i do is zero with them up in the air yeah okay [Music] let's see what happens here now [Music] there is a little bit of water coming out of the tile not a whole lot but there's a little stream coming out it's gonna get a bunch of stuff in front of it i'm still showing row row four is 120 pounds instead of 180. if you go to a diagnostic and then if you click on pressure you can can you see that number four lower yeah number four is red and the rest of them are flashing up and down black bars so they kind of they're bouncing around all over but number four it actually well now it is moving number four is red [Music] okay but but they're all inconsistent you know they're bouncing up and down a lot obviously right it says test failed did and you ran number four i ran number four yeah so it says uh number four test failed so you were right there uh i've got i've got the vax in float now and number one is off so now i can do it start and end row is four it says air purge failed as well okay so nothing wants to go really no it shows all your road units on top right under where it says downforce margin okay yep and then on the side with the power magnifying glass type in row four so if that plunger is stuck then do we have to replace that whole that whole valve well i'm not sure because i mean the thing only has so many acres on it so it might be warranty yes or something where we can replace the whole valve and not have to mess with this but right i'll i'll talk to daryl about that and we'll kind of get a game plan once again i don't feel quite so bad about it because the people that know what's going on can't figure it out yet either so i guess i'll plant more end rose here i hate andros apparently you guys like it so you know what's coming thunder hey okay that's kind of what i was wondering about all right we are all fueled up def is full that should give us enough to finish down here in what we call our south fields and it sounds like deer is going to come out midwest machinery is going to come out we're going to drop a new sensor in row 4 because it might actually not have an issue it's just the sensor or it's the sensor sending the wrong signal creating the issue so we're going to try that usually that's the answer i guess to a lot of things it seems like it's all it's all computers you know these robots they're fussy okay i'll i'll get in deere midwest machinery we're gonna throw a sensor on row number four trying to i couldn't keep my head straight well yes that's it that's all it was one little sensor on the actuator on one row fussy robots that's all these things are nowadays fussy robots welcome to drinking bros present five to seven did you call me he did but he doesn't like me anymore did you say we got a plan or we got a flat yeah your dad just called me and uh we got a plan so i'll come over and get the rock paper and pick some rocks everything seems to be going pretty good now i've gotten close to another 200 acres done really since we fixed that sensor on there so everything is ripping along pretty good that is what we need to see starting to get dark sun's going down i'm going to load in some seed here and see how late i can make her go [Music] we have an air leak somewhere i can hear it [Music] so but i can't find it [Music] i think it's just a little uh [Music] the air dump deal honestly i think the electrical wires bumped it and hit the bleed off deal it should build up and stop nope just going to build up and release it again bleed it off again but why [Music] i don't know what the deal was i knew there was an air leak because it came on the computer and told me whoops told me hey you got an air leak so i opened the back window and i could hear it assumed it was probably like a a row cleaner line or a down force line had blown somewhere but it was on the compressor the the blow-off valve had popped off there's several of them on there [Music] i pushed it in it built air it blew the blowout valve again i pushed it in again i got in the tractor i went and we're good i'm pretty tired i think i'll go home now [Music] [Applause] [Music] good night tractor hey big dog yeah me too
