it's technically not the Soviet Union with like Bulgarian Treasure Planet but it's part of like that Eastern Bloc what what are the odds you know it's like it's not that many times but it's weird that it happened twice right so I'm talking about Soviet Union Treasure Island AKA return to Treasure Island released in 1988 this old movie became a meme as of late because of this Dr livesley or livsy or obviously his name livsy this doctor lives Ewok where it's going by this Fung song called why not by Ghostface [Music] I gotta say it kind of hits and I do love the motion of the characters and the edits over it feels good and it's good seeing all the different variations coming out I just saw one with TF2 I saw one for My Life as a Teenage Robot Ed and Eddie everything and I thought this meme would have been dead like over the course of a week it's still going the power of the Soviet Union and its animation Department right by the way this is legit a Soviet Union animated film but they commissioned it in everything and apparently and this really caught me off guard it is an anti-drinking PSA so Dr livsy here is like the main like meme Lord from this movie though I gotta say Hawkins though is pretty great have you seen this Kung Fu action he just decks people all these guys have like wild anime levels of power and cartoony energy a shooting uh stabbing with swords running around you know because I saw this movie with its memes uh just a few clips and I'm like the character designs the movements the quality how fluid it is it's surprisingly good so of course I went to go watch the film I have to I watched Bulgarian treasure planets within like two weeks of watching Soviet Union Treasure Island and and yeah I felt the last two brain cells of mine burst I I joke by the way because both movies aren't bad and both of them are distinct enough in their own ways but also based on the same Source material and also from again the same neck of the woods kind of go figure right keep your eyes open you'll make a fortune okay the film itself was released in 1988 and it actually was a really big deal in Russia like one of those things where it's considered like I wouldn't say an inside joke but like a beloved film from their neck of the woods like you know if you're from if you know you know right and there would be an American version that would be released in like 1992 and here's the thing is that both in Russia this movie was released in like two parts and apparently there's also like a live action like not version but there's live action Clips in the original version with songs and the songs are like to reinforce like to not drink but I did not see that in my version that I watched the English dubbed One I also look for the like live action Clips I wanted to find them couldn't find them not even the Russian version go figure [Music] [Music] so for the movie itself it basically follows the same story of Treasure Island Jim getting the map he's at this end you got the pirate against the black mark who gives his map to Jim Jim takes off with uh the doctor he takes off with the captain and on their boat with Long John and his crew there's an uprising they're racing to get the treasure but a lot more cartoony Antics and a lot of I gotta say the walk Cycles the movement the animation it's really good there's moments where I'm like you didn't have to go that hard you'd have to take the camera for one character on one side of the room with a first person perspective although of a staircase to the other character you could have just cut to that character in the room but no y'all want the extra mile so like to the animators who worked on this film like well done there's some really interesting shots like hey I'm underneath the crotch of this these Pirates walking through but I'm gonna enjoy it said nobody ever I did look into see like who's behind the movie like specifically he got some guy and I'm gonna butcher his name I apologize David uh trekowski as the Director and then there's somebody else named radnov uh Saul gosh succulative I believe both of them have their own respective like filmography and reputation of being like successful artists at the time and they brought them together it's a collaboration it was a big deal for the Russian people and ta-da you know it's Soviet Treasure Island AKA return to Treasure Island which confused me because I'm like return is this a sequel to Treasure Island it's like no it's it's it's actually just Treasure Island again let's go okay cool also don't drink right let's go uh listen Dr Lipsy I know that you drink look at that smile look at that Chad strut look at you fighting these Pirates no problem of course you got a buzz going on don't you even lie to me as far as like the actual story for the movie goes again it's kind of runs the same Pace the same tip for Tat to a degree as the original Treasure Island took some Liberties here and there had some fun of course the characters are wacky in their own respective ways but it's it's pretty true to the story for the most part not verbatim but close enough find the treasure long the only thing about it that I from watching Bulgarian Treasure Island planet and then watching Soviet Union Treasure Island is that like I don't get the same like father-son vibe that like Disney Treasure Planet or even Muppet Treasure Island bestowed to the audience where I'm like oh I can see how like Gem and and silver are getting along uh but I don't really get that for either of these like other films for for again Treasure Island from the Soviet Union and then Bulgarian Treasure Planet creative decision creative differences just something taking the Liberties of their own who can say but I will say this folks when it comes to me material it's not just the strut there's a lot more in there there's a lot of jokes actually like surprised me with how hard I left cartoony Antics I'm like wow this is like a mixture of TF2 sfm whackiness me to Looney Tunes and it was from a Russian animated film from 1988. cool let's go and how would this film be complete if there wasn't like some uncanny valley shots of these like dark faces of the captain and and of course the doctor that's stuff of nightmare that's the stuff where it's like you know it's two in the morning you're in your sleep paralysis you know session as we all do and at the corner of your bed unless you peek down there he is it's Dr livsy uh I probably have changed his name three times by now poking his head out and look at him he's looking at you he's about to conduct operation on your guts just kidding he's here to stab some Pirates so as far as just online memes go I've seen quite the variety over these last few years from like somebody touched my spaghett to the globgo gab collab but it's pretty cool to see something pulled out from so long ago it's been lying dormant for decades and uh Soviet Union Treasure Island Dr livsy your time has arrived so enjoy it now go straight off into the sunset and and for the folks who want to watch this film I recommend it I think it's fun I think it's a visually A Feast for the eyes and it goes to show you that you know you've got these these treats out there these Treasures of these buried Treasures that we Americans because I am an American they had no idea about but maybe there's more out there more animation goodness and more mean potential just goes to show you that there's more than just Disney when it comes to animated films and and as long as we keep looking we might find some
