why is it so difficult for people to find jobs as developers software engineers programmers whatever you want to call yourself why is it so difficult let's talk about it all right guys this is your boy joe back at it again codingphase.com your boys back and adam did it again one more time listen man let's talk about it you right so this times that you see here stories of guys who just pop up out of nowhere and within a month two months three months they're like hey man i just got hired right i just got a hundred thousand dollar job and i'm working at xyz startup where i'm working at xyz.com and i got a job i'm good but the same time when you hear those stories you see the comment sections where you'll see a whole bunch of people complaining oh man i've been doing this for nine months i can't find a job i got a computer science degree and i still can't find a job i went to xyz bootcamp and i still can't find a job and i took so many courses on you to me and on different platforms and i still can't find a job the industry saturated there's no more jobs everybody took it they sending it to the indians in the pakistanis and the chinese and the whoever is out there right that's it america's gone they took all their jobs right you see that in the comment section right there's nothing i make it up okay you see that all the time now why is it that some people have a hard time to find a job and then some other people just get a job like that right it's not that the jobs are not there the jobs are there the problem is it's very simple the problem is that you don't have the skills to get the job now you're probably asking yourself joe but i could build a to do app joe i could build a simple website joe i can go ahead and build a javascript calculator joe i've taken a million youtube videos and i know how to scrape the internet and python and you do deserve a job you work hard you put in the work but you still don't have the skills to get the job what do i mean by that you need to have the skills that shows that you can hit the ground running on day one okay if you're applying to an e-commerce company and you have zero knowledge of what e-commerce is you have no knowledge of things like shopify woocommerce right magento how are you going to get the job being able to sell products online you have no skills in that field you don't know how that works but yet you're still trying to get that job in that company who sells products online but you've never done it before and you don't understand the process now a guy that comes in and knows these things and maybe might not be as a skilled developer as you but he actually has experience with that or maybe he has actually tried to understand that whole industry and then now when he goes into the job interview he has projects that has to do with that industry itself okay now i will be honest with you guys right a lot of you guys also think that you need to go straight to the top what do i mean by that that your first job needs to be at google your first job needs to be at facebook you need to be at any of these big companies and to be honest with you it doesn't need to be one of those jobs what you need to do is get hired right you got to look in your local area build the experience right and then from there try to go to those companies it's gonna be easier for you to get a job right it's like a guy trying to get to the nba but has never played in a local park right it's like yeah it's going to be very difficult you need to build up those skills you need to build up those kudos those you know passes those street credits you know what i'm saying like you need to build that up it's the same thing with development right you just took a course online right you can't go and think like you're gonna get a job all the way at the top on day one build yourself up and it's fine to take a job where you might get fifty thousand dollars on your first job some of you guys are expecting a hundred thousand two hundred thousand dollars on your first job and it's like nah kiddo you didn't go to stanford you didn't go to mit right your background is not one of those guys right it's going to be very difficult you know what i'm saying you know sometimes you just have to be realistic are the jobs there yes they there but you need to be more grounded right i know a lot of guys that have made it to the top meaning you know fang right you know you got those big booms amazon freaking facebook one of those big companies and they've actually worked themselves up right they started at digital agencies they started at e-commerce business they started as small small businesses and then from there after the day a year two years three years right they go and apply to google and all of this other companies right once they have those skills companies are not just gonna hire you just because you know how to do a little to do app or you know how to scrape the internet with python you know what i'm saying same thing as like some of you guys have been trying to do like hey i'm going to create a little memory game and you think you're going to bring that up into a job interview i've been in the other side of the the interview i've had people go into jobs professional companies right like companies that multi-million dollar companies and people show up with little freaking memory games with javascript and this is not just the guys that are learning on you to me or youtube these are guys that are coming straight out of college with this type of projects on their portfolio right do you think that that's the type of level of projects that is going to get you into a job no like go outside of the box if you want to create a game man go ahead create a game but that game better be polished that game better be connecting to a server and have a multi-player game right have a high score uh tracking system you know what i'm saying like impress us so we could say damn he built the game and then at the same time he built this whole infrastructure for the game that's how you impress an employer okay there's so many different things that you guys can do to help you you know stand out from everybody everybody that's out here everybody can code everybody can do a little programming everybody took a little course nowadays high school students are getting you know beginner courses in programming how are you gonna differentiate yourself from everybody by having projects that make you you know look like a professional a guy that the company wants that they can let you go right let's say for example you go into a company is an e-commerce company they're using woocommerce and i'm using e-commerce because you know it's a simple way to get into the industry but let's say you're going into a company they're using woocommerce and then now you're in there with a website built with shopify right it has custom applications that you built custom themes that you've built right and then now you can show them hey man this is what i created a related item system i created a pop-up that shows uh the product is a sneaker and you can scroll from one side to the other side and it makes the sneaker go in 360. right now you're showing this company who is currently not using shopify they might be using magento woocommerce whatever it is now they're seeing how you did that and they're like damn we could use that in our company he understands the process of e-commerce okay you're going to say now you could go ahead and fill in the blanks with another type of industry it doesn't matter what it is but you want to have projects that show that you can be in the game that you should be working for that company that they cannot let you go that day because if they let you go another company is gonna give you an offer and you're gone and that company could be their competitor and then now they have a great developer that they may start on so you want to be that guy guys the reason why people keep getting higher and you're not getting hired is so simple you don't have real projects that show you can hit the ground running on monday that's it you go into a job interview you have a little to-do app you have a little crud app but your project doesn't look like something that is polished right some of you guys might think well my my website's supposed to look like i'm a back-end developer right that's the that's the the the common thing that i keep hearing right oh no i'm a front-end guy i don't need to be building no apis and things like that i connect to the pokemon api that's my project hire me how can you get higher when you're doing things that are like little kick stuff like this the real world these are companies that are going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on developers or even millions of dollars on developers and they're investing their money to get a return they don't want to go in there and be like we're going to train you for the next six months right maybe some companies will do that but it has to do for an exceptional student or an exceptional developer right a guy who just graduated from mit the the professors is giving him recommendation letters google will come in and say you know what this kid is a very talented kid right we could go in and spend the six months in training him and getting him up to speed and get him you know up in the game you know what i'm saying but the average people like me and you we can't have that luxury we don't have it right we have to actually go in there and show that we can work on day one on monday and if you can do that there's a job out there for you guys now again if you want to learn how to code you can come visit my website codingface.com that's what i do here okay i actually teach in a different way i teach in a peer programming style type of way where i record everything live and at the same time i'm having conversations with you as we build things so like that you can understand things a little bit better and you can actually see the mistakes the things that happen right how to fix the bugs everything that's what we do at codingface.com if you want to learn hey go check out codingface.com i'm going to leave a link on the description so you guys can check it out but again you have to build real projects that demonstrate your skills okay and focus on creating projects that are for businesses or at the same time something that can generate income you know sometimes people come in here and they think programming is all about kumbaya and hey you gotta love how to code the owner of the company doesn't care about that right if you go to a company and you say hey man i built this application i built a subscription system right and i was able to generate five hundred thousand dollars out of this program or whatever it was right this application that's gonna open eyes that's gonna be like damn this guy he's in the game right you know one thing that i liked about uh the tech lead and i'm not a huge fan of tech lead but i really like the fact that by the time he got to the big companies that everybody loves to hear from like hey man facebook google all this stuff like he actually has some really legit projects things that were generating income already so by the time you get to these companies you're walking around with value on top of you so that's something that i would recommend you guys to do okay so anyways man it's your boy joe back at it again codingphase.com if you like this video please subscribe leave a comment below let me know that you survive to the end all right it's your boy joe peace
