White People Attend a Black Church 'For The First Time' | All Def Comedy

hi I'm Honest John hi I'm Alex McHale hey my name is Trevor Wallis and today I'm going to a black church for the first time I have never attended a black church I don't think I have because not good with dance moves and I can't sing in note when I think black church I think of people being like joyous and loud and lots of hand clapping and lots of hallelujahs and amens and like a lot of participation a lot of hands in the air wave them like you just don't take my religious background is I grew up a Catholic I was an altar boy went to Catholic school studied for a year to be a priest but since I'm not particularly attracted to small children I quit the only concern I have today is time I heard they go very long I already have to pee right now good afternoon my name is River Bernard Jackson I'm the pastor of Philips temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church that has been here since 1907 as I walk in I feel very comfortable people are smiling and very welcoming this one that we want to acknowledge all the mob business all of this is will you please think I was nerve-racking as like right before is going up on stage at the same feeling I'm one of three white people in the sea of black people any like hand me the microphone like some glory he's a guy do your words and I was like and hey my name is Trevor Wallace and I don't really have an affiliation right now looking for a new one you guys are very loving and feel the power here feel the Lord here so thanks for having this guy and I just like I felt like I was going to get like some weird looks but everyone super welcoming and like I got a round of applause after so you can see my HBO special coming out stand into a church near you tight about where you are the single household of the baby come on I think I'm trying to compete with everybody to see how many hugs I can get can I get more hugs than anybody else because that was my goal so the fact that we all are getting up and hugging each other and saying welcome and I kept saying happy Sunday and God bless you and all that stuff it was so warm and it really does make me feel like I have friends now are going to be looking for me if I don't come back we'll just as your fee we don't you've got some phrases those who worship the Lord is very immature at first when they were singing it was just new to me because I haven't really been around that but I started to get into it started to drum a little bit started to do the designer XXL freestyle praising praising Jesus present present Jesus clapping on beat I'm doing this right now and it's hard I got to like count in my head like 1 2 3 go 1 2 3 go but I acted natural I just pretended like I wasn't counting in my head so they're singing and we got CeeLo green on the keys we got prints on the drums everybody's jiving growing up Catholic the songs there were a lot tamer these songs are jumping before you quickly take your seats hey man you guys just come up to the hall tape and as we hold hands with one another you're physically able all comfortable Trey during prayer I started out thinking like you know good thoughts and then my mind slowly drifted like what am i doing this weekend you know I started to think like I'm getting kind of hungry what am i doing for dinner what am i doing after dinner where am I getting a beat who should say beer but where am I getting some Jesus juice and then I was all over the place in prayers but I started out strong the human I say this let me tell you what it takes to be obedient during the prayer I'm thinking I'm not particularly into this but I'm gonna be polite and pray along do you bodily get your neighbourhood quick whose frown and say neighbor have purpose purpose no matter the circumstance now look at the other neighbor whoever probably faces it say let it go talking to a lot about my neighbor I don't know why I keep saying that I know my neighbor way too well now I know like her full schedule her pet schedule her grandparents schedule I'm too acquainted with my neighbors so like everything else was cool but it's like too much on one one the new phenomenon that has hit the world of music is Beyonce's we call her sixth studio album called lemonade amen amen as soon as I heard a pastor say lemonade I knew things were about the life yeah lady I'm gonna move it around he dropped that I was like I'm in the right place no warning I'm breathin oh I'm gonna be no backsies I felt like I was watching like Stone Cold Steve Austin right after victory except Jesus was the victory today lots of Jesus stone-cold Jesus born wine I wrote to you Oh sting listen I have six baby pastors preaching and it's nothing like I've ever experienced before the passion a lot of passion man I felt like I wanted to go do something sadly probably gonna go to like dare I say a bar after this I don't know I guess we go okay good cuz I gotta be so bad I have no doubt that the people that were here are it's good and sincere now it ain't for me but but really wonderful people oh there were some ladies that I definitely had my eye on but I had to remember there were certain thoughts you don't want to be thinking in church I thought that there was going to be a lot more hats and there was a few ladies with some hat game on point and they did have their little lace bonnets which I loved but I just had some like cartoony things in my head about the over-the-top nature of the whole thing one thing that was true today that I realized was the whole time thing it did go a very long time I only put two hours on my meter in the car I don't know I think Jesus was a brother like Jesus has that especially the way that it's described here it's like he's we call him a brother because we have the all the brothers and the sisters but really he's a brother and we're all sisters you know that's what it feels like and I feel like I can say that now cuz I'm here and I had such a great time so that's a lot right that's not like I'm being cool right I would definitely attend a black church again right because like I don't feel like I ever had that motivation just going anywhere else like getting that
