now look at you while you're looking at me oh damn you just did it what's going on everyone welcome to the behavioral Arts my name is Spidey and I use my degree in sociology and psychology my certifications in Cal interrogation and Body Language analysis and over 10 years experience as an award-winning Mentalist to teach people Behavior Analysis and practical psychology on stages and television shows all over the world for the first time in a long time Will Smith sat down and did a full- length interview on a show called 360 with Speedy where he opened up about his life in Hollywood his past with jeda pinket Smith and a whole bunch of other stuff but what do his body language facial expressions and word choice reveal now there are a couple of reasons this interview caught my interest one of them is that the host Speedy who isn't me by the way I'm Spidey he's Speedy two different things but he's doing some really interesting things as an interviewer that seem to be working in his favor and we're going to look at what those things are the second reason is that the feedback to this interview has been very split a whole bunch of people are saying wow there's some real value here he's being very real and we're seeing sides of Will Smith we haven't seen in a while and then a whole bunch of other people are looking at this through the lens that this is still the guy who got up at an award show and slapped the host and never really took accountability for that and we're still seeing more of what we've been seeing since then some fakeness some dodgess and they're not quite buying the interview so we're going to look at the non-verbal communication here to try to figure out why there's such disagreement about the nature of this interview and which version of Will Smith we're getting also quick note for the regular viewers make sure to stick around till the end of this video cuz I have a couple of important announcements that being said let's take a look at these clips from the top before Dana Goodman discovered the Fresh Prince uh you were just will yeah will Big Willie yeah Big Willie uh woodrest woodrest oh man you went you went deep you went deep okay as The Story Goes Overbrook High School your last 30 days there or so you had a song that was on the radio you know it it was it was like the the first time that um I experienced a sense of power right and it was like something about going from just being Lil Will to having a record on the radio was like ooh I'm 55 and I I just don't I don't think of myself like that U I feel um I feel late 30s at the like top like I hurt my neck trying to wash my hair about 8 months ago oh yeah literally it's happening man you seemed a bit more I imagine you were more Nimble when you CED that first blue Suzuki Katana 600 yeah I crashed that thing a couple times what happened you did you did a lot of homework I was like okay you know all that you know that's what you do I got to do my research okay so we often talk on the channel about the UN ival emotions these are emotions that the research has shown pretty much everywhere in the world look more or less the same and people recognize them regardless of culture however a while after the research on the basic Universal emotions came out there was another study by researchers Tracy and Robbins who found another emotion that has a very high recognizability rate and looks the same pretty much everywhere in the world and that emotion is pride and what I love about this first clip is we got a really good example of it when WI Smith was talking about his song first getting on the radio and he felt a sense of power we see the universal expression of Pride so notice how first of all in his chair he's sitting pretty comfortably he slouched down a little but he's open with his body language kind of sitting back in his chair mirroring the host so they're both sitting more or less in the same comfortable open position but in that moment when he says that he felt a sense of power we see his chin go upwards like this he perks up his hands move away from him as he kind of becomes big bigger as he says a sense of power and even his eyebrows go up and his eyes open up and that is the universal expression of Pride with that chin coming up which in and of itself is a very confident position because it exposes a very vulnerable part of the body which is the neck a little bit of a smile which we're seeing on him and usually we see with pride what we call arms a Kimbo which is the arms on the side like this but at the very least even if the arms aren't exactly like this we take up a lot of space with pride we're open we're confident he's feeling that Pride as he talks about about his early music being on the radio remember that moment remember that gesture because it's going to help us understand things that are coming up another really interesting moment is immediately after that when he says going from being little will to having a record on the radio was like woo and we see a couple of things first in that entire segment that I just posted and that's condensed even in the longer version he's gesturing a lot with his hands but mostly towards himself which makes a lot of sense because his arm are on the couch like this so this is a very logical comfortable way to gesture this is the only moment whereas Palms come upwards like this as he goes woo now Palm orientation conversationally is not Universal we see different orientations across different cultures and contexts but there is one orientation that is seen universally with the same meaning and that's Palm outwards pretty much anywhere in the world when those hands shoot outwards like this it's a negation it's a way of saying no or refusing or stop or trying to get someone's attention so in that moment we not only see the hands come up but he said kicks back like this was a moment where he was like taken aback by this like stop whoa there's something here this is different than what my career was up until this point and I want you to notice at that point as he kicks back his eyebrows are also coming downwards like this now put a pin in that we're going to talk a lot about this eyebrows down with Will Smith in a later clip I want to talk about the interviewer here and something that he's doing that I'm sure a lot of you already noticed so right in the beginning there when he's asking him about when he was discovered notice how he doesn't say before you were discovered he says the name of one of Will Smith's earlier managers Dana Goodman he goes before Dana Goodman recognized you so he puts that name in there then you know as they're talking about the past he says woodrest which was the the address of a house that Will Smith lived in when he was young and notice how the moment he says that Will Smith takes notice and he says oh man and we see quick eyebrow flash so the eyebrows go up and goes oh man before Dana Goodman discovered the Fresh Prince uh you were just will yeah Big Willie yeah Big Willie uh woodrest woodrest oh man you went you went deep you went deep now there is a lot of research on eyebrow flash which is when the eyebrows go up like this in a conversation and I'll leave some links in the description where you can learn more but typically it comes down to one of three things either we're emphasizing something either we're socially connecting with someone or we're surprised and in this case that's exactly what it is it's surprised because this interviewer says that word woodrest which you know maybe Will Smith hasn't heard in a while or he didn't think was public knowledge and he's surprised that the interviewer knew that so he acknowledges that he goes oh man and then he goes on to say you went deep okay and he smiles and so he's realizing this guy's done some research on me he's not just some guy asking me questions for the fun of it he did his background and it doesn't end there he also knows the high school that Will Smith went to by by name and at the end we get a big one with some great body language Will Smith is talking about how he hurts his neck in the shower makes a joke about that and now the guy brings up a motorcycle that Will Smith had an accident on and he could have simply said you know I imagine it was different back when you got that motorcycle but we see a couple of things we see his eyes look down and his hand comes up to his chin like this now there are a lot of myths out there on social media and comments about how we all look the same direction when we're recalling Imes or when we're recalling words or when we're making up images please believe me as a mentalist I have spent tens of thousands of hours staring at people while they think of images words or make things up there is no pattern different people look in different directions when they focus some people even Dart around a little bit searching their memory it's different for everyone but for this guy specifically it seems pretty consistent that when he's searching his memory for those words he's going down here he did it originally when he was trying to remember the name of the street that Will Smith grew up on that was much faster he looked down there and he said it right away but in this case he's looking down he's touching the face which also is common with deep thought you'll notice sometimes when we focus we have a tendency to rub our face like this in his case it's just one finger that comes up like this almost like a hm moment as he's looking down and he's trying to remember the make and model then there's a pause as he looks up with a smile like okay I got it and we see that hand go pause blue Suzuki Katana and like he articulates it like it's coming from his memory like I got it these are the words more Nimble when you cop that first blue Suzuki Katana 600 yeah I crashed that thing a couple times what happen you did you did a lot of homework I was like okay you know all that you know that's what you do and once again when he names the make and model of the motorcycle not just motorcycle Will Smith takes note of that and he goes you did your homework okay that's what you do so it's like realizing okay like he's even saying that's what like this is what you do you go deep like this okay I understand this is a serious guy he's done his background research so he's getting that respect okay now we're going to move on and look at some more behaviors and see how they line up with what we've seen so far and we're even going to look at a facial expression that has me asking some questions but before we do do me a huge favor hit that subscribe button turn those notifications on for more behavioral analysis and practical psychology content artists specifically have interesting relationships with some of their biggest records a lot of times soldja boy yeah Crank that is like one of his biggest songs maybe he doesn't like it or Willow Willow Will Never sing with my hair never yeah see that's an example what is your relationship like with the theme song of Fresh Prince um I had that brief moment I had that brief moment and and it's just it's just the biggest record I've ever had there's like everywhere in the world and and every country and this people don't even speak English know the phonetic so the interviewer says that there are artists out there who have songs that become so big that they can't even listen to them and Will Smith says that you won't hear his daughter Willow singing her hit with my hair but then he's asked about the theme of fresh prince of belir and again we see his hand shoot up but it's not quite a stop gesture earlier those fingers also came up and his head kicked back that was a lot more of a stop gesture in this case it's coming up as he's saying there was a brief moment so it's almost like and we see him spinning like this like there was this transition you know there was a moment but it turned into something else then as he says that it was the biggest record I've ever had we see a quick shrug so we see the shoulders go up we see the hands turn up like this and we see the eyebrows go up at the same time and there's a lot of great research on shrugging and that denotes a lack of something so I don't know I don't care I'm not doing that but very often we see what we call an epistemic shrug which is I don't know what else to tell you and that's what this is like I don't know what else to tell you that's the biggest record I've ever had and then immediately after that we see a gesture that I believe is the most misinterpreted gesture in all of body language I very often see comments that immediately equate this to deception I often see people who think that the moment someone is talking and you see this gesture as they're talking it means they're being deceptive so first of all there isn't a single gesture that can allow you to know that someone's being deceptive for the simple reason that we don't all do the same things when we're being deceptive cve so forget that least of all this gesture cuz it could have so many meanings and there's a great example here because as he's saying everywhere in the world we see this slower no gesture and then he talks about how he'll hold the mic up and everyone knows the lyrics and then as he goes on he says every country even the ones where they don't speak the language and again we see this no gesture so does this mean that he's being deceptive that it's not true that people all over the world know the lyrics absolutely not this no gesture could mean a lot of things we often do it when when we disapprove of something when we disagree with something when we're when there's disbelief somebody might tell you something you might go that's amazing like you have a hard time believing it it's still positive and you still mean it but it's the disbelief that caused that gesture and in this case it could be happening for a multitude of reasons it could be disbelief him going it's unbelievable how in every country people know these lyrics it could also be him trying to think is there a case where it didn't happen and kind of negating that and going in every country like there are no countries where this doesn't happen so kind of inner conflict but not because of deception so the bottom line is context is so important now if I'm asking someone to direct yes or no question and they're giving me a direct yes answer like for example I say are you close with such and such and they go yeah we're pretty close that might indicate a certain inner conflict might make me want to ask a couple more questions and dig deeper there but always remember context is super important and one gesture can never allow you to know that someone's being deceptive but do you like the song um you don't that PO no no no I I I like what it means to my life right I wouldn't I wouldn't say I I like it fair I like I like how people like it okay I the most diplomatic I ever heard but I feel now the host notices that the question was a little bit sidetracked because he asked what is your relationship with the song and Will Smith said there was a brief moment and then he goes into how people all over the world recognize it so he's kind of stepping away from his relationship with the song so he flatter asks again do you like the song and what we see there behaviorally is just beautiful so we see Will Smith complete disconnect as he kind of looks down over here and he goes um and then we get this silence then we hear a swallow which again is a sign of nervousness and as he goes to answer the question we hear him go I I I I and this kind of falling a part of the language what we call speech dysfluency which is very consistent with once again stress and trying to come up with the right answer and then notice how as he formulates a sentence he's talking really slow there's a pause between each word I like what it means and we got that eyebrow flash on means cuz I think he fig figured it out he's like oh that's a good one so he's emphasizing what it means to my life so I like what it means to my life like I I I I like what it means to my life and then he says I wouldn't say I like it but I like what it means and then he goes I like that people like it and the host goes that's the most diplomatic answer so this moment and other moments like it are what's going to start to cause a divide in the way people react to this interview and it all depends on the goggles you're wearing when you watch this interview so we often talk about goggles on the channel there are a lot of people who will go in to an interview or a video already having decided that they dislike this person or they like this person and everything that they observe is filtered through those lens so everything they say is Despicable deception they're lying whereas if someone that they like said it they wouldn't see it in that same way and it's the exact same thing for this answer some people might have the lens on of this is Will Smith who's made some great music that I liked who made some great movies that I've enjoyed and it seems he himself doesn't really like this song but he knows what it means to a lot of people that's what he's saying so he's trying to not say that because you know he knows how important it is to people and I think that's sweet and then you have other people who have the lens on of no this is the same guy who slapped Chris Rock on stage and since then in every interview he's been dodgy and he's married to Jada and and they're cut from the same cloth and here he is again starting with the dodginess and you know he's kind of sidetracking the question and it's kind of going to paint the way they see the rest of the interview when we start getting into some of the more serious questions which we go to Right Now TV Fame is one thing mhm and I imagine movie Fame is something different yeah for sure what are some of the differences that maybe someone like me the Layman wouldn't understand T TV has changed now it's a very it's a different thing but back then you had had to be there Monday night you Monday night at 8 or you might not see it for 6 months and what would happen with television is people watched it like in their house in their underwear right so they know you whereas when people would see a a movie star you know it was a whole different thing as soon as Independence Day came out it was the first time somebody called me Mr Smith right so it was a really you you know movie stardom on the on the fresh prince of belir when I would see people hey Will hey Will hey Will did you as you were first getting those first tastes of movie Fame did you like it I love being famous like um it makes me feel safe right it's like somebody knows who I am anywhere I go on Earth okay a couple of things with that clip one when when he's talking about TV Fame and when people are watching you on television and they're in their house and their underwear we see a very recognizable facial expression in fact it's the universal facial expression of contempt so contempt means looking down on something a little bit and we see it on one side of the face and sometimes it looks like this some sometimes it looks like this but it's characterized by the mouth Rising on one side of the face and causing a line on one side now you'll notice with Will Smith most of the time when he's talking we see two lines on the side of his nose but in that moment we see one side the right side gets so much more accentuated to the point where we even see his right eye squint a little bit so that whole right side is scrunching like this so when it's on one side it's contempt both sides is more consistent with disgust we also see at the same moment he's kind of like wiggling his head a little like they're in their underwear almost like this so we almost even feel in that gesture more contempt now I want to be careful with the use of the word contempt here I don't think he's being contemptuous towards people at home in their underwear I think it's more towards how he's perceived right he's going to go on to say that in that context he's like a friend but on the movie screen it's a whole different thing so it's kind of like in this moment it's more about himself like it's not a big deal you know so that's something we Conant it's not a big deal anybody could do that you know we might see that exact expression so I don't think he's belittling the person I think he's Bel lling that type of Fame compared to movie Fame which he goes on and when he talks about the movies notice how now everything is open and grandos and we're going back a little bit into that Pride position his hands are also outwards like this but you'll notice it's not a sudden extension like this like earlier when he said whoa like stop this is different in this case it's more as he's talking about how big the movie screen is he's using his hands as illustrators so it is a little bit different from that stop gesture however immediately after that as he says that this was the first time somebody called him Mr Smith he goes so it was really and again we see the hands come Palm up and the head kick back again the same way they did exactly when he was talking about being on the radio so it's so fascinating that both times he's talking about a transition is period and we're seeing the hands like shoot up like this and the head kick back as he goes now this was different this was different from what I was used to to having a record on the radio was like ooh the first time somebody called me Mr Smith right so it was a really you know there's also something really interesting about the distinction that he's not mentioning now I could be wrong about this he knows his career infinitely better than I do but I think there might be another element to why people went from calling him hey will will will to Mr Smith and I don't think it's necessarily about going from TV to the big screen I think it also has a lot to do with the roles so when he was on the fresh prins of belir he was Will Smith you know he was young it was comedy he was silly and like he said you know you see him week after week on the television there's a familiarity there but that role specifically feels like this young you know fun kid so it makes sense to me that people would call him will from the show it's just will however in Independence Day where he pivoted to the movies but also to more serious roles his role was while still having elements of Comedy he saved the world he was like it was action right he was like beating up aliens so the role almost commands more respect so I think there is an element of that as well not just going from TV to movies but again he would know better notice again how as he says I love being famous we see this no gesture once again so does it mean he's being deceptive he doesn't actually like being famous maybe possibly there are elements of Fame he doesn't like but in the confidence and the way he's emphasizing with his eyebrows as he says it with the confidence in his tone I think it's more than like that he's just saying oh man it's unbelievable there's nothing like it I love being famous again remember a lot of people emphasize with no gestures and I think that's exactly what that is but after that after that there's a facial expression that has me asking some questions I'm not entirely sure as to why it's happening I have some theories but he says I love being famous and then there's a pause and he goes it makes me feel safe and as he's saying that we see the eyebrows come down and we see the nose scrunch for a moment as he goes and make makes me feel safe this is what we're seeing now there are a few reasons we typically see scrunching on the face really not that many for example with anger the eyebrows do come down but we don't typically see scrunching around the nose and mouth we see tension you see the lips compressed and the jaw gets tight um with disgust we see a lot of scrunching things come inwards because we don't want more of this input so when we're disgusted by something a lot of scrunching we also sometimes see scrunching with Focus like if we're really concentrating or focusing on something you might see someone go like this yeah yeah they're like trying to think about something we might see that but in this case it's this kind of tense scrunches he says it makes me feel safe it makes me feel safe so I have two theories as to why we're seeing this in this moment and oddly neither has to do with disgust or an unpleasant emotion because T if you showed me this on mute I would say that looks like something unpleasant right like someone going that was not fun I did not enjoy that at all that's why we typically see this kind of thing which is why it has me asking questions my first theory is that it is causing some kind of confusion for him like it shouldn't make me feel safe but it does like it's curious I'm you know it's it's interesting that it makes me feel safe and that's why we're seeing this it's more to do with curiosity rather than unpleasantness it makes me feel safe my second theory is very specific to Will Smith I've noticed that he's very different when he's being playful and silly and when he's being serious about something so when he's being playful and silly we often see the eyebrows are up and his tone is kind of in that goofy place like this and that's very consistent he's done that for a very long time um and when he's serious he often emphasizes with the downwards eyebrows in fact if we go back to the very beginning of this interview when he was talking about first getting on the radio and we saw that stop gesture the eyebrows came down like this and yeah it could have an element of curiosity but it's like okay things are serious now so even on interviews even in his acting he often communicates serious things with the eyebrows coming down it's very specific to him so that's what I got on this I think it's either like confusion or you know that's weird it makes me feel safe Fame makes me feel safe weird confused or this is just the way Will Smith signal something that's serious so ibr come down to go I'm serious about this this is a serious thing one or the other let me know in the comments which of those you think is more likely to be or if you have some other reasoning as to why were seeing the scrunching in that moment Jada had gone on a book tour yeah things had gone a bit sour and love is a very personal thing so what's it like for you having to navigate personal matters in the public eye when you don't intend for them to be that way I actually did intend for them to be that way and the the only misjudgment I felt of that is that the world wouldn't be gentle if I can say something in this interview that when you leave you like damn that was great will got bitten you know down that road now you know Speedy don't have to go down that one right so you know there can there there certainly can be more Artistry in in the delivery of the gift but I'm going to do it uh more artfully this year 2024 is I'm certainly I'm I'm certainly going to be a little more delicate with it but you know even though a lot of my stuff may be uh public it's like ain't nobody doing better than me you know it's like okay what am I the only one that was really confused by that so the host is saying that we were supposed to this interview a while ago but Jay was on a book tour and things got sour and love is a private thing so how do you feel about you know having to public to speak about something that's meant to be private when you didn't necessarily intend to so it appears that the host is referencing when Jada went on her book tour and started to say things on interviews about Will and a relationship with Will and she revealed how they hadn't officially been together for several years but they're working on it and that in itself caused a lot of confusion but in this case he's being very selective with his language and it's very ambiguous he's saying um only misjudgment I felt is that the world wouldn't be gentle misjudgment about what gentle about what it's it's a little confusing and he talks about how like he wants to help people you know so um you know will got bitten down that road what road it's weird because like he has a chance to elaborate here to say you know will got hurt going down this specific Road and tell us what it is is it being with someone is it uh allowing someone to go out and talk about your stuff when you're not there what's the road that you got bitten on then he says things like there can certainly be more Artistry in the delivery of the gift I'm going to do it more artfully this year and uh certainly can be more delicate with it but be more delicate with what you know be more Artful with what do what more artfully this year what's the gift so again it's almost like he's saying these things that that kind of seem like he's saying something but it's so ambiguous that I'm not even certain what he's talking about out there's a part of me that feels like he might be referencing the slap you know like he's going to deliver his message more artfully or more delicately he must be talking about that because when it comes to the book tour I can't see what element of that he could have done more artfully or more delicately so I just feel like things are getting jumbled here and at the end he goes into that comedy tone that's so distinct for Will Smith because he's talking about this whole thing about how he's trying to do something better some some delivery of a gift something's trying to to be better and then he says how an unexamined life you know doesn't have too much value and all these things about how he wants to inspire others and at the end he goes he drops the tone into that ain't nobody doing better than me you know and that's a very classic tone that even all the way back with fresh prince of belir he would deliver comedy lines with that tone ain't nobody doing better than me you it's like so this is where a lot of commenters start to get a little critical because it's almost like he's talking about examining your life and opening up but in so doing he's being so ambiguous that we're not really sure what he's opening up about what's this path that that you know I went down and I got bitten so you shouldn't you know it's almost like he's giving this advice but not saying this is where I went wrong these are the specific things I shouldn't have done right this is the part that I'm going to work on delivering more artfully this whole thing was so ambiguous that even me someone who has followed this story very carefully I'm not sure what we're talking about what does Will Smith believe is the meaning of life even the concept of the meaning of life is your mind trying to Fathom the unfathomable MH just sit here for 30 seconds right now Look at me now Look at you while you're looking at me oh damn you just did it I'm trying to it's not easy though you're right that's where you will find the meaning of life that's where you'll find it so whatever that was when you can make peace with that that's the meaning of life damn okay so speaking of things that are going to divide an audience that's definitely one of them because I'm not going to talk about the Merit of that exercise because that's completely subjective right some people are going to look at this and go what was that that was nonsense and then other people who practice meditation or hypnosis or you know Focus or being present or being in the now might see value to an exercise like that so it really depends how you're looking at this but I want to look at this from a behavioral or logical standpoint right so first he's being asked according to Will Smith what is the meaning of life and the first answer he provides is even just asking that question is to try to Fathom the unfathomable so basically he's saying we can't know we can't even begin to know we can't even think about knowing so there isn't really a clear answer and this answer lines up with an interview that he did a little over a year ago with Trevor Noah that we looked at on the channel but in the beginning will said that he's been traveling the world looking for the secrets of life and when Trevor asked him if he's found the secrets he said no no not at all and that lines up with this that it's not fathomable that we can't even begin to understand the meaning of life or the secrets of life so you're traveling around the world traveling around the world to uh finding the secrets of life and are you finding them uh no not yet not yet but then he kind of switches gears and now it's like he's almost doing this spiritual Guru thing to help Speedy get this big revelation of how you could access the meaning of life something that a moment ago he said is unfathomable to even think about how to know what the meaning of life is so I'm wondering if this is something like you know maybe he speaks to some spiritual people and he's kind of seen this before someone do something like this so he's kind of trying to have this moment of like this teachable moment I don't know if that's what's going on but I found it interesting that he went from it's unfathomable to okay here's how you do it so now we go into this whole being in the moment thing right so he goes sit here for 30 seconds and if you look at the host he goes oh what what now like like it's almost like something out of a movie like oh we're doing this now and he kind of sits there confused he has this very tight kind of smile which is something we do often when we're holding holding back like laughter or feeling a little awkward so we're definitely seeing that and he's kind of sitting there looking around like he doesn't know what he's supposed to do here so then Will Smith doubles down he goes Look at me now Look at you looking at me which is which is kind of like how do do I like leave my body do I think about me like the instructions are a little unclear for this guy who's already having a hard time with the exercise now with guided meditation or hypnosis which is my background something I studied for a very long time we typically would say something like now imagine yourself floating out of your body and seeing yourself in that chair or imagine yourself through my eyes in this moment what might that look like but in his case the instructions seem pretty unclear look at you while you're looking at me like instructions unclear and we see like the kid's having a hard time with this and he's looking at me and he goes yeah I'm trying but it's hard and Will Smith says you're right and I'm not even sure they're talking about the same thing I think the kid means like it's hard like I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing and wiith is going yeah it's hard like spiritually it's really hard to get to that place that I'm trying to talk about here and then after a little bit more of pause Will Smith goes that's where you will find the meaning of life whatever that was and he goes like this when you make your peace with that that's the meaning of life so a few things first of all again this guy who said it's unfathomable now knows where the meaning of life is suddenly then he's saying you know whenever you make your peace with this but I think that this that he's referring to was just this guy being a little confused what he's supposed to do now at the end the guy goes like this like his mind has been blown but again I think it's because this interviewer wants to respect Will Smith he's done all this research on him clearly he holds him in very high esteem so he's faced with a choice here either he can go yeah I don't I don't what was that I don't know what that was and kind of just really break the connection here and kind of seem like he's not vibing with this exercise or he can lean completely the other way and just go yeah oh that was that was super deep yeah dude yeah that was awesome he doesn't even know how to elaborate on that he goes damn and just kind of like clicks his card down and smiles and kind of just quickly moves on to the next thing because I don't see that he has too many options here he kind of has to go wow yeah thanks for that moment like this is important to Will Smith it has to be important to me I realized when you know we were making bad boys one when we were making bad boys two like I had in my mind I wanted to be the biggest movie star in the world I wanted to do all of this and I realized while you're planning your life and you you think you're going somewhere your life's actually happening your life's happening now it's not happening when you think it's going to happen and on on this movie um you know Martin was just really focused on paying attention to the fact that we are in a good life yeah and it was like literally in a good place we're in a good place you know I wanted to end with that clip for a specific reason has nothing to do with behavior I just think it's terrific advice and almost a reminder to myself that what I do often seems very critical because that's what I'm doing I'm critically analyzing what someone is saying the way they're communicating the non-verbal communication the body language facial expressions and it often seems like it's just negative criticism it's really not there's a lot of positive in this interview there's a lot of stuff he talks about on his way up mindsets the way he saw things and there are moments where if we kind of let go of what's been happening over the last couple of years there was value it's just given the nature of what I do there isn't much for me to analyze in those moments but I do encourage you to go watch the entire interview because there are gems like that one and I think that's so great and I'm going to remember that I'm going to remember what he said because even with my own career very often I'm like you know I'm working on this because this is going to get me to the next thing and the next thing and the next thing but then when I think back to those Stepping Stones I go wow that was so much fun so I love that I love that advice of saying while you're focusing on your future and trying to build it life is happening in that moment and in the future you look back and really remember this moment that building moment very very fondly and I completely connected with that so look historically I have been quite critical of Will Smith especially because after the slap there was some interviews and some videos where it seemed like he was being pretty dodgy with that subject I still think he's been dodgy with that subject I still think he owes Chris Rock a proper apology and I think that a lot of people are in this disliking Everything Will Smith says because of the fact that for them he's still stuck at that moment and his association with Jada who also tends to be very dodgy about things and on the other hand there were people who were able to look at this interview and see the old Will Smith that fun Will Smith and move past what's been happening in the last couple of years to just kind of see that guy who entertained them when they were younger so I think there's going to be divide over Will Smith still for a while or at least until he can put this whole thing behind him the proper way and even then I think that for some people it's going to be hard to go back to seeing Will Smith as that fun Entertainer I think that night at the Oscars he kind of shattered an illusion for a lot of people and they said whoa okay we didn't see that there was something beneath the surface and and they'll have a hard time going back to trusting Will Smith and that's fine that's totally subjective and up to the individual now before we go I have a quick announcement I very often get asked in the comments if I'll be performing in my area in or around Montreal and I am in just about 2 weeks on April 27th I'll be performing at playground which is about 15 minutes away from downtown Montreal this is a public show and because it's subsidized ticket prices are lower than I've ever seen them so I'll leave a link in the description for those of you are in the area check it out grab some tickets come see the show come say hi after the show I'll do it meet and greet it's going to be a ton of fun and just to clarify this is my award-winning mentalism show so it's entirely entertainment I bring people up from the audience and I know things about who they are and what they're thinking in seemingly impossible ways it's a mix of trickery and psychology it's a lot of fun you'll see how I pepper in a lot of what we talk about on the channel but it is primarily an entertaining show so if you're in the area check out the Links come see the show can't wait to see you guys let me know what you thought about this video and I will see you on the next one
