[ __ ] [ __ ] cheer you already know your boy joe back at it again codingphase.com your boys backing out and did it again one more time you never know where i'm gonna be live at okay so currently right now we're on the roof okay we're on the roof right now all right so yeah man we here what's good any questions you guys have any topics you guys want to talk about let's do it okay we are live hopefully we don't fall off live here but yeah man you never know where your boy joe is going to be at this one makes every single live stream exciting you never know what type of topics we're going to talk about what type of things we're going to be doing uh today while i'm on the roof i'm just taking off all of the freaking um a little freaking uh leaves their leaves that keep falling on my my house of course there's a never-ending job it's an infinite loop because we have a tree right on top of us uh but yeah man we here beautiful sunny ass florida yeah man so it was really good let me come over here let me come chill with you guys right here under this tree we could do a nice little live stream up here and we could relax okay what's good i say florida weather it's beautiful this atl that sucks bro uh let me see yeah i got a leaf blower right here it's not the best one but hey it's electric so you can't go wrong you know what i mean you could definitely enjoy yourself you know my neighbors over here playing with the dog oh yeah man it was really good somebody said i finally caught a live stream yeah man uh any suggestions for a web developer resume my suggestions will be if you never worked as a developer talk about the things that you have done the type of projects you have created that's what i would say to do sometimes if you're coming from other type of careers or jobs right i don't recommend people going in but hey my last job was a janitor my last job was a taxi driver my last job was this this and that sometimes people you know how can i say this sometimes people judge people uh from their previous work in previous jobs so what you want to do is instead of focusing on your job history what you want to do is you want to focus on on actually um the projects that you have done and talk about the things that you have done that's why it's so important to do like an internship so important to do uh you know client work get on up work get on fiverr right pick up some real experience so then you can actually have something to talk about of the things that you have actually done i see a lot of people that you know they say oh i don't want to work for free or oh i don't want to um you know do any gigs that are not paying a lot of money and it's like yo you need experience this whole industry is about experience because developers cause a lot of money yesterday i was actually talking to my boy chris sean who's also a business owner you know so it's crazy that you know since he has employees and people that he hires contractors um you know he goes to the same thing that i'm going through with a lot of contractors and people that i hire and you know sometimes you don't want to take that risk you don't want to go in and and pay somebody top dollar and then to find out that they can't really do the job so if you can actually talk about the things that you have done and why you're an asset to them and what you you can do for them then it's gonna be much better for you okay what up tyler it's been a minute man i haven't seen you in the live stream for a while right i mean you come in every time that you do come in it's super late it's like oh he didn't get the notification he just saw it live but yeah man welcome back tyler uh where you at tyler now like you you move from san francisco you're still in like one north carolina now chemtrails says how many projects is good enough for a front end job i will say three solid projects right and again you want to have projects that show that you can do whatever they throw at you so as a front-end developer i would say have a landing page right a page where it's for a business or for you know like a i don't know somebody who's selling a product online create a landing page if you don't know what a landing page is google landing page or google high converting landing pages and build that okay then from there go in and build a dashboard uh to show like okay you can work with data you could show reports do that you could also go and and actually build something like a real estate website where you're using some type of framework like react if you want you could go to zillow.com look at zillow and try to recreate zillow okay showing all of the different listings on google map then when people click on a listing it pops up it loads all of the different types of information for that specific listing like there's a lot of stuff that you can show that hey i got all of the skills that you need me for right as a front-end developer what exactly is your your job your job is to create websites from a design they give you a design and you're able to create it sometimes a company might say hey we want you to be creative and and we don't have a design so you should know how websites are built and what looks good what doesn't look good okay uh user experience let me see what else you know a little bit of color theory doesn't hurt anybody you know i'll be seeing people that come in and be putting you know uh bright yellow with a blue background like that doesn't really look good or let's say some people might go in and put in like a light gray with a a light a white image in the background it's like you can't even read the text right so it's like little things like that that's gonna make you a more attractive candidate as a front-end developer because nobody wants to train anybody guys and get this idea out of your head that people want to hire you and then they're gonna train you no bro like you cost a lot of money as a developer you cost a lot of money to a company companies don't want to sit down and train you now it's like one of those situations where people say oh there's jobs that are paying too little to junior developers and they you know it's like sometimes people want to get paid like a hundred thousand dollars but they're not worth a hundred thousand dollars as developers that's the truth right they see that somebody gets a hundred thousand dollars and they think that oh they could get that too and it's like nah most companies are not gonna pay your top dollar unless you have experience because they're paying for somebody to produce and be able to hit the ground running right away when you're getting paid like that that's what you're supposed to do if they have to train you if they have to show you how the ropes show you how to do things on their company like show you tools that you've never used before right um you know like these guys that right now they don't you tell them about google analytics they don't even know what you're talking about you tell them about google tag manager they don't know what the hell you're talking about you talk to them about uh connecting to hubspot or connecting their business to salesforce or even using uh something like shopify as a third party uh cms basically or a headless cms and some guys they don't even know what what you're talking about so as a business owner how can you pay that person top dollar when in reality now you're gonna have to teach them all those things and it might take a month two months for them to pick up all of those things it's like yeah some people might say please invest in me and invest in me because i have potential but the truth is that nobody is trying to hire somebody of potential right sometimes people do it but the truth is the the you know the average employer wants somebody to come in and start working because every single hour that you're in a job you cost them money and most of you guys don't want to get paid on low wage you guys want top dollar so if you want top dollar then you know that employer wants to make sure that he's getting his money's worth taliban says i'm in maryland i plan on moving to north carolina in july though okay nice uh david the quality of projects is more important than the amount i got higher with basically one project because it was a complete real website built for an animal rescue nice yeah yeah like it doesn't really need to be like six seven projects like you have one project that has everything everything like every single thing that you are gonna need as a front-end developer then you're good now if you have like two three projects that's gonna be even better but you know i'd rather you will spend a whole month on one project and when i say spend a whole month i'm talking about spending you know 20 to 40 hours a week working on that one project some some of you guys come in and say i'm gonna work on a project for my portfolio you spend three days and then you just put it out and say oh this is great that's it hire me it's like nah spend some time it's better to go spend a whole month building a whole website from scratch and and now you have everything that you can explain about that website on that interview cam trail says i just finished your real estate app yeah i'm glad that you you enjoyed it i'm about to do another one a new updated one so the new updated uh react course that i'm gonna be dropping right after uh the javascript course matter of fact no because i have to uh i want to go and not that i have to but i want to go and create a new php and laravel course um so i'm trying to figure out if maybe if i could go and create the basics of react the basics of react on on a new course right create pretty much uh the react course from scratch and then from there what i'm planning on doing is maybe i'll give access whoever already bought the react course i'll give access to the php course and then from there what i want to do is i want to combine both of them so both courses at once meaning okay you have all of the basics all the syntax everything that you need to know about um react and one course everything that you need to have for php like the syntax uh laravel all of those things in another course but then have like one major project that goes for both courses so if you either buy either one you get access to the the major project which is gonna be a real estate website from scratch well we're going to go in it's going to take probably like a month to build that project but it's going to be worth it because there's going to be a lot of stuff in there like you really going to go in and have a project for your portfolio that you can say okay we built this from the ground up and i understand everything in here you know yeah i don't know if you guys have ever felt like this like i've taken courses i'm just like you guys i'm just a regular dude that has taken online courses and from multiple instructors and and learned online right and there's times that you take a course and you leave out of there not knowing how to build things yourself so that's what i'm trying to tackle from here on from 2021 and on that i want to make sure that when people leave out of every single course they could go and build whatever they want with that skill so yeah so that's going to be a pretty cool project i want to build a full real estate website now with every single feature because if you go to zillow.com there's a million features that you could add but i want to add the major ones meaning i want to go in and make sure this user authentication make sure that there is multiple user roles there's the role of the user who's looking to buy a house there's the role of the real estate agent who's posting the house that's being sold and then there's the administrator uh role who is the one that's be able to kick you know could control everything going edit or change any any listing delete any listing etc right um at the same time i want to make sure that in in the javascript side of things we build it with react and we're able to create you know a single page application where uh we're using react router and people are able to um you know search for listings search for uh product listings in their area etc right or they could post for their area right so all of those good things we're gonna go and add it to it jewel nickel what up ma uh jewel nickel says uh working on my portfolio now hey congrats joe where are you located that is sunny i got my first remote job and i'm looking to move florida bro tampa florida like this is beautiful out here bro i'm just on the roof right now right i'm just chilling it's a beautiful neighborhood like i love living here man like i'm happy every day like straight up like there's rarely a day that i'm not happy and i'm happy every day somebody asked me this on my comments uh on the last live stream that i did they put a comment and they said joe how are you so happy i see people that you know that troll you people that hate you people that talk all this [ __ ] all the stuff and i'm like bro i'm happy i'm looking good like right now like i looked at my account like straight up and not saying that money brings happiness because it doesn't but money brings you to places like this like if i didn't have money i wouldn't be in a place like this i wouldn't have been able to buy a house like this i wouldn't have been able to be in a nice neighborhood like this and you know great neighbors and and um you know good people around and you know being able to take care of my family bring my my brother from miami to here to new york bring my other brothers from dominican republic to here to new york next year my father's i'm bringing my father from dominican republic i just got his his visa paperwork getting ready right now i'm gonna bring him from dominican republic to here to the to florida you know and and like at the end of the day it's like i'm happy bro like i basically accomplished what i wanted to accomplish all i wanted to do was just to be financially stable right uh be happy be doing something that i love i love to code um you know that's the perfect job for me i love you know i'm a homebody i like being home right um i'm not one of those people that just want to be outside all day it's like i used to do that when i was like mad young but now i'm just like i want to be home i want to be relaxing i want to enjoy the pool enjoy the weather right so i get to work from home like that's the coolest [ __ ] ever man like imagine this like this is your dream i was telling this to my little brother i was like bro this is i'm living the dream every day i wake up i'm like yo [ __ ] like this is a freaking dream come true everything like you know like if you ever work [ __ ] jobs like i work warehouses i worked uh uh what else freaking warehouses parking lots uh retail like i've worked every [ __ ] job you could think of right like carrying in boxes doing the night shift like you know i did music i'm freaking in music i didn't like it i don't like the environment too many people that are snakes right like i've been in all type of environments i've worked in corporate right like but this is the best job that i've ever had is just being a developer being able to work from home and do the things that i love to do right and get to hang out with cool people like you guys and um you know and just code bro like this [ __ ] is fun to me programming is like having a thousand piece puzzle right every day you're getting to build a puzzle i love puzzles right [ __ ] is easy yeah i enjoy it uh dope i was looking into orlando and poor salute nah bro don't go to orlando orlando's whack bro i'll tell you right now uh orlando is like everywhere you go there's a there's a toll you're gonna spend man money uh it's actually expensive there was a point where orlando was cheap now um of course most people that say oh i live in orlando they don't live in orlando orlando they live like outside of orlando they live like in kissimmee and all these other places and those areas are ratchet bro like like it's fine to to you know live in the hood like while you're struggling but if you're in a position where you want to move to somewhere uh where you're going to be good like you don't want to be in the hood bro like you don't want to have that type of energy around you you know peoples are haters people's is watching you you could get robbed you could freaking get killed you wear a nice chain you could get killed for that you got a nice car you could get you know robbed in a gas station like where i live like the worst thing that you hear is like some young kid overdosed on on like freaking on percocets or something like that you know that's like the worst thing that you're gonna see here um but you don't hear nothing bad out here bro like this is a very good area man so if you want to move anywhere you gotta move to tampa and i'm not talking about tampa tampa like you want to move to like the hillsborough county which is 15 minutes away from tampa that's where i'm at right now um you don't want to live inside of tampa you like temple temple is ratchet as hell like inside of tampa like you go to north tampa that [ __ ] look that should look crazy it's just like any city right any big city um those urban areas where you know you start seeing crackheads you start seeing all type of [ __ ] like yeah you're always gonna see that it's like new york if you live in new york city you'll see a lot of stuff if you live in the bronx but if you live in long island or you live in like the east side of manhattan like no you're not you're not dealing with that type of stuff um see hey man would you recommend starting freelancing on wordpress or shopify i'm currently learning laravel so i'm not sure which is the best way to advance my skills well my event my advice will be look online see what's the the opportunities that you have in your area if there's more jobs with wordpress focus on wordpress if there's more jobs and gigs for shopify do shopify if you're in a situation where there is no no jobs or anything in your area but you want to look for remote work then i would say go in and look into shopify because not everybody's doing shopify some people they don't even know about this [ __ ] like a lot of people don't even know about shopify they think shopify is like a drag and drop place and and you're not going to be able to code you're not a real developer if you use shopify and that's great right because now you as a freelancer you could take advantage of that nobody's looking that way so if nobody's looking that way that means there's no competition you can go in and get yourself a nice gig right maybe making two thousand three thousand dollars every website or you could go in and you could work for a company remotely and they'll pay you anything from 60 to 120 140 i've seen situations here in miami that they're paying like a hundred forty thousand dollars for shopify developers like you know these days i'd be like yo i don't even know why i'm out here like i got my own business because there's pros and cons to businesses right um but these days i'll be like yo if i wanted to right now i just take one of these jobs bro like there's so many jobs that's out here like it's crazy like you could easily be killing it right i'll show you guys the other day you know when people be like oh google fang this this and that bro if you don't work for netflix like you're not really making money like that right as a new developer at any of these fan companies um because people get paid like 140 000 or something like that and you can make that with shopify at a company a regular company you don't even have to go through the process of like going through mad competition going through my algorithms like nah bro like oh you know shopify you know liquid what have you done can we see some of your themes oh cool that's nice do you know about creating shopify applications oh you're a full stack application developer cool all right oh you're hired that's it right ain't no competition in there nobody's talking about it no nobody's really into it right nobody is interested in it because everybody thinks like real development is what you're like working at a tech company it's like now bro every company somebody sells water they need a web developer somebody sells sneakers they need a web developer somebody creates uh mobile applications you know what even though they make mobile applications they need a web developer to maintain their websites and their servers okay like literally every industry you go to a a hospital they have web developers working at hospitals right most of the the the new tools that are being built before it were built with embedded applications right like doing like software applications like using c-sharp asp.net visual basic and [ __ ] like that right java that [ __ ] is not being done with that no more that's being done with web development right web development technologies php freaking um no gs like that's what you're seeing in hospitals like you go in even if you look into like the new vending machines they're all running node.js right i just saw the other day i went to a a gas station to go and get um you know get a soda or whatever and there was a vending machine and i said i'm not even going to go inside right because there was mad people so i said i just put in in the vending machine pay my little two dollars got a soda right now in there i'm looking at the [ __ ] and the [ __ ] is loading up pulling and says no this isn't that i'm like yo [ __ ] it's crazy they're using node.js to run vending machines so that company that sells the vending machines who do you think that they need to hire what developers again you get on saying so like that's where it's at bro oh let me see random savage uh just got my portfolio silenced okay nice i'm second year undergrad but got everything he said and that's damn true you have to call don't be a copy paste programmer who knows how to face the theta yeah luckily there's more opportunity in the wordpress but shopify is not big in the uk okay yeah so you got to do your research okay again i can only tell you what i know i don't know about no uk i don't know about no no philippines i don't know about no india i don't know about dominican republic i don't know about nowhere i know about here in the us i can tell you that right now um but again and even if i give you an advice here you got to do your own research i can only give you what i know there's things that i don't know there's opportunities that i don't know there's an opportunity that might be out there and something that is obscure to me but you will find it right so that's why it's so important to do your own research uh what should we focus on shopify themes or apps it depends on which route you want to go there's people that enjoy building the design or or working with front pages right the front end right if you enjoy that then shopify themes at the same time you could go and sell your themes right so you could get a job as a front-end developer at a company that's using shopify you could be a shopify theme developer and create your own opportunity by selling your own themes right now if you enjoy doing full stack applications meaning doing the the backend doing the front end connecting to the database you know setting all that [ __ ] up working with servers uh using aws using digitalocean whatever right um if you enjoy that then yeah you gotta go with shopify apps david e what's the most you can expect to increase your salary every year if you're job hop for example starting from 60k in the first year so if you do 60k the first year right and then you go and apply you could you could start applying even after six months to other companies and you're probably gonna get anywhere from 75 to 80 because now they know what type of skills you have and you know and also too depending on where you live but you could continue going up like that right now of course if you're like in san francisco new york the major companies you could always go and jump to like a tech company a tech startup right and those companies will start you off like 100 140 so you could be at 60 and then if you have the skills then you pass the the type of interviews that they want you to do [ __ ] you could go in and jump from 60 to 140. it all depends right but definitely do not stay stuck at one company don't get attached a company is just a company holy [ __ ] sorry guys i'm taking a big ass spider on my hand i'm just chilling here talking to you guys there's some big ass spiders just chilling on my hand bro so like yo what the hell felt something walking on me florida all right you [ __ ] ain't sweet right like everything is nice but you might find some weird scent some weird animals out here bro yeah bro uh let me see hi joe i will start freelancing uh david he says 140 is coming for nine to five jobs once you have enough experience um i will say it's not common 140k is not common right it depends on what industry you're in and also two like what type of company you're gonna work for don't come in with this mentality thinking that you are gonna find 140k jobs all the time guys there's guys who are here with 10 years of experience and have never made more than 90 000 okay now that's a combination of them not updating their skills a combination of them not testing themselves and trying to continue to push themselves to go to the next level and also too a combination of where they live at right because if you are comfortable in a small town in america right if you're comfortable in a small town in amer in america right and you're happy there and you could live like a king with 90 000 then yeah you you might never go in and earn 140 or even 100 or anything like that because you're comfortable there and at the same time um where you live they don't pay like that right um also too a lot of people think that those those salaries are not the norm they're the norm where uh where is expensive so like right now miami miami is getting up there so here in florida that's that's like the highest paying uh location right so you go to miami but miami is becoming like new york a lot of the companies that used to be in new york city after the corona virus and all of that a lot of those companies are like yo why are we paying state tax and city tax by doing business here in new york when we could go to texas we could go to vegas we could go to miami or florida right um and based on miami and then now we could just go in and start running our company from here so now when when that happens when that happens what does that happen right for the local economy and the rent prices and you know all that [ __ ] uh two years ago living in miami you could have lived in in the middle of brickell for fourteen hundred dollars right right now you can't live in brickell for 1400 you might get a two or you might get a roommate you might be a roommate to somebody for 1400 but right now the price is there is becoming like like in new york city right um where if you go to any condo or any apartment in new york city you gotta pay like three thousand dollars or more so now miami is becoming the same thing so when that happens in employers want to keep their employees happy right because nobody wants to travel an hour and a half away like you don't want to be traveling from like homestead florida which is uh an hour an hour and a half to the south of miami you don't want to go move to homestead to then take a a hour and a half to two hours in commuting to the middle of miami so now the employers are are willing to pay you more money so you could be local and you could be happier you gonna say so this is the other factors that people don't take in people think like oh every developer deserves a hundred forty thousand no you don't like that's the truth you don't deserve a hundred forty thousand dollars you get paid according to the cost of living and depending on your experience and how much value you bring to a company a developer might not be bringing that much value to a company or he might not have that experience but because of the cost of living he might be getting 140 000. you know i've seen people that they go to boot camps and they're like oh i just got a hundred forty thousand or i got a hundred thirty thousand from uh this boot camp after i graduated this boot camp and it's like when you go into it you might think like damn this guy's got to be amazing developers or you know guys who are doing so good but then when you go into it and you look at the um the locations that they got to go work at and the type of companies that they're going to be working for then you start factoring in all of those things yeah they're going to live in san francisco yeah they're going to live in new york and if they're going to have to live there they're going to have to pay top dollar for them to live there right so even though it's 140 you come out of there after taxes you got the city tax you got the state tax right you come out of there with probably you know probably 90 000 and then after the 90 000 then you got to pay about 30 thousand dollars on rent every year so that's why they have to pay that much it's all it's a whole bunch of [ __ ] that you gotta factor in and sometimes people don't don't take those things into account because every developer deserve 140 no sometimes people don't don't bring in that much value you shouldn't get paid that much like that's the truth like i'm just being honest uh you don't bring that much value you're not the you're not the go-to guy right you're not and you're not the guy who who knows everything another guy that's the senior developer that that that people are looking looking up to or asking questions to you're getting paid that because of the course of living [Music] let me see how realistic is it to get a remote job as if your first job in the u.s how realistic i mean right now it's more realistic than ever because there's a lot of companies that are hiring remotely right uh before it would have been very very difficult now because everybody got to work remotely um and some places they they haven't opened up yet then yeah you're gonna find jobs that are remote but also too take into account that a lot of companies are doing temporarily remote some people think like oh there's gonna be remote forever no it's not some companies will be but the majority of companies that's only for the moment and the truth is is because a lot of people even though they you know they might be able to do their work but to be honest with you the majority of people it doesn't matter who you is when you're working from home you get lazy a lot of people don't do all of the hours that they're supposed to like if you're paying somebody 40 hours a week you're expecting to get at least 30 hours of work and there's times that people are working remotely and not even doing 20 hours of work they're doing like 15 hours through throughout the whole week you know maybe they'll do three hours in the morning they go to a meeting but they're not really working as hard as they would if they were inside of an office unfortunately some people they need to have an overseer somebody that's behind their back because they're lazy right me when i work remotely um i'm not gonna say i work 40 hours because it's not true nobody does um i would just go in i do my work i do like five six hours a day and that's it i'm chilling after that right you're you're working from home so employers they know that they know people you know people [ __ ] people you know they don't do their work etc like that's normal that [ __ ] happens so i'm pretty sure companies is not gonna not every company is gonna want people remote it just doesn't make sense you're not getting you're not getting your money's worth when you do that [Applause] muhammad says how do you get out of the rut i've been down bad shaking my head what you want to do bro is you got to think about what's going to happen next wherever you at right now how are you feeling right now like there was a moment where i was like i've talked about this before i was really down my sister was was uh you know sick she had you know she had mental illness uh she was like you know sick like somebody who was gonna be a doctor like really like she was gonna be a doctor and everything she was sick and and then you know that brought me down the same thing um i have problems where you know i'm looking at myself i'm like 22 23 years old and i'm like damn i'm living at home i'm seeing people because believe it or not when you see [ __ ] on social media and you start seeing other people that they're living a certain lifestyle that you want to live you're like man like i see people traveling i see people going to countries that i wish i could go i see people uh doing their thing like just having fun and i'm like looking at myself i'm like yo i'm 22 23 years old like still going to college like i'm still i don't have no money in my pocket i'm depressed i'm upset right then the only thing that that kept me afloat was the fact that i knew this was gonna pass but i just have to go through it when you're down like that you just gotta go through it you gotta understand that you're gonna have to go through this [ __ ] everybody goes through something real bad in this world everybody goes through a situation right um but the situation whatever it is is not important is the fact that you get out of it that's the most important part of it so for you if you're able to to you know to be able to [ __ ] to to go in and and get past that that's the most important thing being able to get past them being able to do what you have to do in this world and understand that you're going to get through it and you're going to move on you know i was depressed a lot of times bro [ __ ] like that [ __ ] happens you know i feel down you know i'm like damn when things is going to change for me right like there was a time like i was really depressed i used to like there's no lie there was a moment i was like really really depressed and and i was like yo when this [ __ ] is gonna be over when i'm gonna be able to to just be good be happy
