the side of the road his name is Scott Stevenson he's a sheriff in a nearby County in Michigan USA this is fascinating because you get to see how someone high up in law enforcement gets treated when they commit a crime Sheriff Scott Stevenson initially seemed to think he can get out of the DUI because he's a sheriff and they wouldn't dare arrest a sheriff but you'll notice how everything changes when he starts to realize that he may actually be a sheriff in jail we're going to analyze body language and break down this barrier unique situation to reveal all the insights now let's get started an extra trail of all this happening but my dispatcher called someone thought you were dead over here no I don't know listen I don't know who you are this way to help you and that's really what we're in law enforcement for it's not to write tickets for us people it's to help you I'm good I have bad day okay but I don't where are you kalkaska this is go casket Tony he's he's alright but talk to them we're gonna need to know you're alright because they already have been caught you know the drill I do not know how much he usually drink when you drink not a big drinker okay it looks like he did McDonald do you know him yeah yeah now Jerry Kenan arrives at the scene because he lives very close to there he saw an ambulance go that way and he went to go and check it out Jerry Kenan is apparently like a local celebrity in the county he's a retired Army General he was the sheriff of this county he ran for Congress in 2014 and he's now this local town's police chief I mean what kind of a person would I be if I just let you go and drive off you know I could take responsibility initially Jerry says I'll take care of this but I think he only said that at this point because he didn't know how inebriated sheriff Scott really was I know but I I guess I just talked to my sergeant and he said I you know you got to do I get the the camaraderie and the you know we're all know they it's it's more about I understand where's your self I do Wow sheriff Scott is being so cooperative he's not gonna play the sheriff card and say hey you can't arrest me I'm a sheriff or anything like that you know I did wrong and mind you take responsibility type thing and see how long that lasts and how embarrassing is I know I and I respect I respect the hell out of you I do it's easy to forget since he's out of uniform but he's a lot higher than her in the totem pole of law enforcement she's the deputy and he's a sheriff yeah it's different County but it's still very intimidating for a deputy to confront to sheriff I'm breaking the law I might've had a bad I've had a bad guys darn day yeah with mom and my uncle and I don't want to give you a sob story I'm not going to do that he said he's not gonna give us a sob story but what do you think the chances are that he's gonna give a sob story during the course of this interaction I hate to put you in this situation and you know do you think how do you on a scale 1 to 10 where do you think you're at you're driving alcohol drinking yeah [Music] it would be good I I can I can I can I can get to my brother's place keep this in mind - he still thinks he's okay to drive now take a guess how many drinks do you think he's gonna say he had and how many drinks do you think he actually had today the day the sound effect that he made was discussed and how much he had to drink but as you'll hear he plays off the who as just oh I'm not really sure how many drinks I had in the last four hours yeah that's probably what he wishes he had at this point yeah yeah it smells like the laptop up for 30 they they took me one job yes 4:30 so it's born four beers four four beers four beers okay yeah did you notice how many times he said yeah yeah people who lie will repeat things over and over trying to convince you of their lies such as it's the truth it's the truth I wouldn't lie to you I'm telling you the truth exactly yeah you'd burn that off I I can I can wear the left any hey the last one two hours ago yeah Jerry and the deputy generally seemed to believe sheriff Scott they were probably thinking well we're all kind of a law enforcement family here no way sheriff Scott is gonna lie about how many drinks he had like any other drunken driver lies about how many drinks they had nope lying about how many drinks you had to the police apparently transcends just about everything I can I can you guys Jesus Christ I'm begging you man I I do I do absolutely whoa they want him to take a breathalyzer test I'm a field sobriety I'm not going to get I Jesus Johnny I mean I'm Jerry can I mean I'm going up to his place did you hear what sheriff Scott said listen again Jesus Johnny I mean I'm Jerry can I mean I'm going up to his place he called Jerry Johnny and called himself Jerry I can't believe he was actually driving listen I'm in a shitty you know this is a shitty spot I mean I've had a bad day notice what he did right there he rolled up his sleeve and then crossed his arms in defensive miss you didn't cross his arms because he felt cold because if he felt cold he would be rolling down his sleeves and then crossing his arms yeah I see what you're telling us is true it was two hours ago I should be burned off you would yeah you know that right okay no problem you know the drill I'm gonna use my pen I'm freezing so I don't know how this is gonna and freezing my guts up I used my patent so okay and now the sheriff pretends he's cold because he knows that if he's warm when it's really cold out it's likely that he consumed a lot of alcohol and he doesn't want them to know that okay you know the drill sir I like to start with my left foot I don't know if that's easier because then you end up pivoting correctly did you notice how he said yeah and a cringe voice he's probably thinking I'll be lucky if I don't land flat on my face when I'm doing this sobriety test I'm not thinking of doing a military s compelled face it's up to you though of course you know count out loud hands down ones that hands out your side count out loud each step one one-thousand two three four five six six seven eight nine pivot and then follow back nine steps hands down at your side counting out loud yeah you want to you want to start over when on a more flat surface okay okay one leg stand plant one foot of course you know six inches off the ground counting out loud let's say twenty twenty okay okay so we'll do twenty with the parallel to the ground foot up six inches off the ground hands up down at your sides counting out loud okay ready alright ready when you are sure are you sure that's the only reason why I step behind myself it wasn't because I lost balance it was only because I didn't know you were ready yep it doesn't matter that he's a sheriff he's acting like any other drunk that they would stop to do a sobriety test it's up to you which whichever one's more comfortable for you 17 rounds up to 20 yeah good enough for government work 20 okay you have to submit to a preliminary breath test yeah so um I'll go get my PBT okay all right what what's that mean Jerri just be careful what you say mm-hmm yes I understand that yes yes yeah you ready you past this I'm gonna take responsibility for it mm-hmm if I don't though no no geez you guys this this can be jeez rear-ending life-altering it's Jerry this I mean we know when confronted with the breathalyzer he starts to reveal that he's way more drunk than he initially indicated Jerry Jerry I can I can I can follow you to my brother's place you know where I'm going I mean I'm gonna I got chilly and my gosh darn ruined here for your place this is kind of crazy sheriff Scott was gonna visit Jerry that day I wonder if he would have showed up to Jerry's house drunk and what Jerry would have said if he did that hey I was I i bad day sometime I know I said I have bad days all the time I get it I mean I don't know your story I know my stories but like I said I yeah you put me in a hard spot but there's there's ways to get you know there's there's first thing you can do to move around that type thing and nobody knows and whatnot Jerry Jerry what you're saying of course he's asking Jerry to pull strings so he can get all this to go away so he doesn't have to take the breathalyzer test well all I'm saying is that yeah I'm very sorry for putting you in that spot dance low and I don't mean to do that but Jesus Christ so much sheriff I know you can't well if you refuse I understand Jerry no choice you I understand that and I in the end you can't you can't you can't you can put me in what you can't tame yeah I mean you can I get it I understand that but Jesus Christ all my life this sheriff is so bad at convincing selling and influencing notice throughout this he's only talking about what he wants but that usually doesn't convince anyone when you're convincing someone you need to make the case for why it benefits them try to help me out man I can't go in jail seriously Jerry takes a few steps forward because the car is coming but notice the angle of his body is still pointed away from the sheriff Jerry that that that doesn't have to read little reason I think we have an idea what he meant by that it's either to clear that number out and forget that he even took the test or for one of them to blow into it Jesus Christ Jerry I'm sheriff Scott puts his arm around Jerry in a way to say he wouldn't send me to jail a buddy old pal you wouldn't do that to me would you I got my uncle that's going to hear so my mom's sing wait wait didn't he say earlier that he wasn't gonna tell us his sob story I've had a bad gosh darn day yeah with mom and my uncle and III I don't want to give you a sob story I'm not going to do that I have nothing my brother I it's been a bad day Jerry Jesus Christ please help me man do you know how embarrassing this is Jerry Jesus Christ dad Jerry are you serious I'm gonna lie I can't jump is going to IBM you created this situation okay you know this and it's a [ __ ] sandwich and you're throwing it at her feet it's not my call I mean I'm in Israel to a certain extent well it is where's your sorry I mean I Jesus Christ Jerry come on man I'm I was I got chilly in the back of my car you're to go to your place man I was I was I was already over I wasn't knocking anybody off doesn't seem to ever show real remorse for driving super drunk he seems to think this is all a technicality and the law should apply to the masses and shouldn't apply to him yeah it sucks you know what I didn't I understand that but I didn't I didn't I didn't hurt anybody else I mean this is the ticket pbteen on me those are getting the people you the sheriff had to take a breathalyzer test the same kind of breathalyzer that you would give to a normal person oh my goodness poor sheriff Scott Stephenson I'm sorry I did I do not mean to put you in the position but I know hateful jury did you notice how the sheriff is laughing giggling and seemingly smiling now he's doing that in a sign of relief because he surely feels he's almost in the clear but that's that's the worst thing in the world I hope a terrible I can do now he escalates the use of that pet name even more for the deputy he's surely hoping this will butter her up so she won't have the heart to take him to jail pointing I can't I can't I can't just just get a records ball pony that's an you put me in a spot where I am you put me in a spot that I have no can I have control over but you know that morally I can't just let you go you can't take me I'm so sorry I don't that means we gotta do thanks Jerry like I said I it's it's it was on it was called in over the radio [Music] no I I I just if I honey I'm so sorry to he finally came to the realization that he needs to take responsibility for all this it's his fault that all this happened it's no one else's fault he's the one that shouldn't have been driving in the first place that would be nice but not quite watch you're seriously gonna take me I can't I there's nothing I can do there is Jesus Christ Cheerios shipped me what did you get chocolate [ __ ] I know you can old days and ways are gone Jerry come on it's a series of the heart attack and you know he's gonna be at my house this isn't the end of the world it's embarrassing it's like that but anyways let me choose to do but it is what it is and you can't change it the Bell has been wrong you cannot unring how did you get wrong man this is the traffix what a people called this in an officer responded I saw the ambulance go by my house I got something going on I come down just to help the deputy's body camera was apparently not on when she put the sheriff into her patrol vehicle but we have some footage of him at the police station notice the sheriff was not handcuffed here's what happened a few weeks later Midland County Sheriff Scott Stevenson says he has no plans to step down after being arrested for drunk driving in November charged with one count of operating while intoxicated I need to start earning back trust of the people that trusted me before Stevenson told us in his own words he made a terrible mistake Stevenson has every intention of finishing out his term that ends December 31st 2020 after that he plans to retire Stevenson pleaded guilty to driving while impaired after leaving a deer camp he was sentenced to a year in probation what really struck me was the sheriff's assumption that he could never be charged with DUI because he's a sheriff even though he was driving almost three times over the legal limit it sure seemed he believed the DUI laws applied to other people and not to him give this video a thumbs up if you think they made the right The rest of us would be jerked out of the car, shoved to the ground and handcuffed. Charged with a “super DUI” and lose our license, possibly jailed, fined, forced to enter a substance abuse program, possibly fired from our job and further ruin our lives.

If the cop had not turned on her body camera there would be no arrest, and Jerry would have just driven away with the Sheriff, and nobody would have been the wiser. The body camera is the only reason there was an arrest and prosecution. And everybody at the scene knows that to be true. They don't say it, but they know it.

What's with the sobriety test BS? Where I live the Police stops you, they go 'hey, blow in this thing' and if you're OK you can go. If not, you wait 30 minutes, blow again and go to jail. How is taking someone out of the car and making him walk/count backwards better for anyone involved? Is this some another misconstrued American 'freedom'?

I get the feeling the person who called it in gave the details of the car, the registration was run and the cop was well aware he was a sheriff before she arrived on the scene. Which is why she also made sure EMS had been called so there was a bigger paper trail and there's no way it would be able to be whisked under the table.

She's one of the good ones.
