oh this is so cool acting and voice acting on no different it's the exact same thing you can hear in his voice that he's trying to regain his composure but he just can't get her backs he's so terrified and that's a really complex emotion and if you want to improve your voice over you should definitely welcome back my beautiful weebs to another good voice acting review if you haven't seen the last episode I recommend doing so by clicking the link up there but today let's talk about some more of my favorite performances breakdown what makes them good and how you at home can maybe understand a bit more voiceover and how you can take a bit more knowledge from the performances today and the first performance were going to talk about is a Mark Hamill as the Joker now in the last episode I actually did get a lot of comments asking me why I didn't include this originally and it was mainly because I wanted to focus on other performances first some more of my personal favorite ones because I'm not too familiar with watching this show but every time I've seen clips of it I've thought that his performance was amazing [Laughter] [Music] he manages to get every kind of laughs almost perfect as the Joker when he's trying to be annoying that he's won or done something successfully you can tell the difference between that laugh and like an evil conspiring laughs I feel like you could understand every single scene of this TV show based on what type of laughs Easter it's so good how distinct each laugh is mark Hamill's Joker would be no worthy just for the laughs alone but of course if the man is that good at laughing of course his dialogue lines are amazing as well League McGinnis I know every trick the original Batman and Robin knew at their peak so draw like a mental chart in your mind he uses a low pitch to get his point across he's talking down you're out of your luck now watch how easily he just ups the pitch to convey a kind of mocking tone yeah what's the no you're a punk a rank amateur so he goes up in pitch to mock him and then whilst he's doing that he goes down again to to really burn it in listen to it still if it's a whuppin you're a-wantin and in this bill it's a very like cartoony increase to convey the cartoony line that he's saying I think a lot of people when they do voice-over and they've chosen a voice out for a character they're very scared about playing with it a lot because they're worried that oh if that voice goes too low it's not that character anymore that character is a really low voice so I can't go higher but you as a person not a character your voice can go up and down and then I feel like that's what the difference between an amazing voice actor and a bad voice actor is and I think that's what makes Mark Hamill's Joker really really amazing nothing is done here you know just to be over the top and if he is it's the Joker he is over the top and he's nailing it now I have tried to keep my opinion out of this and keep it as unbiased as possible as I want this list to kind of be an objective list and then breaking down the techniques and the kind of like masterful control that a lot of these actors have but I have to put do from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure from the Japanese version okay got a lot of comments last time asking me why only covered dubs and the truth is I can't speak Japanese or any other languages except Welsh but that's not very useful the whole point the point is is if I feel extremely comfortable in and judging English voiceover I've grown up with it on my ear is really trained towards it I do voiceover English I don't do voiceover in Japanese however I'm gonna try my best to break down why JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and do specifically from part three is just an amazing amazing performance and why I feel like it exceeds the language barrier in being one Oh spoilers for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure part three but those of you who have no clue what anime is and don't know what this show is and don't know anything about it JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is one of the most over-the-top camp insane manga flash anime series of all time I'm an absolutely huge fan of it and do is a larger-than-life character poor no katakana look oh so you still want to fight near the Nickelodeon it's cause later couldn't look on it would appear pigheadedness runs in the family it's so so close but there's just something that has this insane level of stage presence in the first one and he's commanding the show like it's his Nickelodeon it's Kazoku no car sick cuckoos sofa no Joseph know what I see not so ordered amo so toyou you're blatantly ignoring your grandfather's wishes even after he gave his life to tell you about the power of the world I think another key difference between the English and the Japanese is that the Japanese almost is going for a sound that is absurd and isn't realistic and I think it really nails that whereas the English one it sounds like they are trying to make this character believable which I think you would always want to do except for this situation where you have this character that is completely insane I actually think in English and Japanese the mood is are actually amazing there that's one thing that I feel that the English one does do as well back to normal [ __ ] Oh Jack black ass Kong Fu Panda we all saw it coming it's amazing Oh Panda oh this is so cool the reason I want to share the behind-the-scenes of concrete founders you guys is that acting and voice acting are no different it's the exact same thing yo yo yo yo enemies of justice prepare for the fierce attack of my watts ha ha ha I mentioned the way he's moving physically here is probably quite close to how PO is actually animated for a lot of movies they will want the voice actors to actually do motion capture and that's because it saves them a lot of time animating stuff if they already have the blueprints it's like okay just just copy the movements this guy's doing and really you'll see that a lot if you ever see somebody doing a character and a voiceover booth they normally do want to be quite expressive that normally helps them realize the scene in the head and act it out I know whenever I do characters I get you know very over-the-top and I move I do the facial expressions I do the hands I try not to move too much from the microphone as that could be a little annoying for the engineer if there's a ton of moving sounds and you will see this from the the best of the best and Jack Black really is an amazing actor and it sucks because a lot of the the you know already well established actors get taken into these gigantic triple a blockbuster animated movies to do the voices and people are always like oh well you know these other voice actors doing it well first off there's a huge argument to be made about the selling power of celebrities and if they just want to attach a celebrity's name to sell a movie easier but sometimes these actors are well known for you know being typecast in some sort of role and typically Jack Black is known as the chubby funny guy and when they were actually making this movie I believe they contacted Jack to play the role specifically so this this whole character was made around Jack Black essentially and I'm sure if Kung Fu Panda was a shitty budget live-action movie where Jack Black wore panda makeup it would probably be very similar movements and you would see all of this and the voice performance be just as amazing justice the most important meal of the day he didn't need to do this body movements that they don't need that at all but it solidifies to him how he's gonna deliver the line and the timing and the sound that pitch everything he gets it all from the body movements and if you want to improve your voice over you should definitely take liberties of the movement next up is Arthur Clark as Roger Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2 now I had the luxury of playing this recently and my god did this man nail it and how come I never see anyone talking about this I'm gonna share spoilers from read that too because I think one of the best scenes is you know man when he's just on the brink of death it's really powerful he really nails it and he is a man who is he who knows that he is he is done and I only want to know what it takes to channel that kind of energy that that is Wow I love it so much the rest of us I'm really interested to know how he kept making the wheezing sounds must have been quite difficult I'm actually must been squeezing his throat and and doing that and maybe he was delivering some of the lines like that oh crap I forgot to put my professional outfit on oh well you had a choice you speak as if kill him or something I cared about you ever wonder about eternity should I hope it's hot and terrible mrs. downs otherwise I'll feel I've been sold a false bill of goods now please think the reason why voice performances in Red Dead Redemption and and honestly all of rockstars games are amazing it's just how really solid they they do the world building all the characters feel like they belong in the world and you don't so much just feel like the savior of the world or an an important part just someone who coexists in that universe bring in van der Linde you have my word you won't swing well I ain't gonna swing anyways agent Milton you see I haven't done anything wrong aside from not play the games - your rules and the sheer amount of dialogue this guy had to perform for this game it is insane and the fact that it's have a really high quality throughout and never really drops is really amazing and well done and it's why it was one of the top voice performances for me of any recent game the next performance is Jeremy Irons as Skaar it's also really fascinating because scar goes through a lot of emotions through Lion King and I feel like Jeremy nails all of them he goes from you know being playful and very evil to achieving his goals and then back to being the loser and he goes and does all those emotions flawlessly life's not fair losing just the first line alone lies not a face he's really taking his time with that lime and a really condescending in a really mocking way yet in his voice you can hear how prideful he is and how happy is that he's the one in this position it's one line yet you get so many emotions and you understand this character and his mindset like that what do you want I'm here to announce that King Mufasa is on his way he's so confident in his control of his voice and listen to how lakhs he is here yet you convey how much he doesn't really care about the situation but you also get a feeling of wow this guy's bad news I have a good excuse for missing the ceremony this morning you made me lose my lung you made me lose my lunch he takes his time at the end of the line to convey how he just thinks that what he's telling him it is not fun not interesting to him and he doesn't care all he wants to do is feel in control and powerful why if it isn't my big brother descending from on high to mingle with the commoners again he uses pitch and he slows it down the one thing that scar does a lot is that he knows when to change up the speed of his lines he knows when to slow it down to emphasize something and he knows when to speed right back up spoilers let's listen to the the very iconic line Scott help me buddy the best line in the whole movie honestly always sends chills down my spine he's so good and he reaches like a kind of tone and a pitch that we don't hear throughout the movie a skull this really evil kind of pitch listen to how like kind of almost close to being gravelly it is listen to how I can iving it is he's really reaching the bottom really straining his jaw to get this noise out this horrible evil sound and it works masterfully and then of course no evil villain would be complete without the downfall notice he drops all the use of slowing down the words they're playing with pitch it's pure just high oh god oh god oh god he doesn't have time he doesn't have time to play with his worth he's enough time to taunt his opponent he he just can only think and spit out words he wants to be saved Oh deserve to live I love this part specifically because you can hear in his voice that he's trying to regain his composure he's trying to get that he's trying to have that kind of control over his words where he slows them but he just can't get it back he's so terrified and that's a really complex emotion if you can take anything away from this it's that being aware of the speed of a lines delivery can mean a lot and it can be a really powerful tool when used correctly now we have a bunch of anime to get to travis willingham as Roy Mustang from Full Metal Alchemist oh my god it's the anime double log last time I spoke about anime dubs people got a little upset that I called some people narrow-minded for hating dubs and now what I meant is that it's okay to not like a dub obviously you can like whatever the hell you want what I meant is that it's not okay to hate on people who do like watching anime Doug just keep your opinion to yourself and I was trying to get the point across that some people who have some disabilities need dubs they need it they can't read subtitles properly and also if you're an anime fan more money in the anime industry is great that means we get more anime it means you get more merch it means you get more of the thing that we love anime now shut the spoilers by the way for Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood don't interfere lieutenant I told you I would take care of him myself listen about that last scream he lets out that's a man who has gone through hell and back to deliver that final blow and it's such a good final but Roy Mustang isn't like that most of the time most of the time he is cracking jokes being a basically a father figure and he nails all of the lines here travis willingham really brings this character life looks like you underestimated your opponent fullmetal who is this guy anyway you'd know that if you've listened to the briefing like I told you to but no you had to go charging right yeah I get it all right I'm sorry Kay whatever next time a superior tells you to pay attention you might just try it I do think that the Japanese performance is it goes for a lot more smoother and a lot more of badass kind of vibe but I think what makes the English performance better in my opinion is that he gets the range of the character really well Travis does an amazing job at the funny and light-hearted scenes but also nails the serious and intense scenes have you lost your mind did you forget the way he tore you apart in East City considering how useless you were against uber that wasn't my fault it was writing that day he gets the really comedic moments down amazingly and builds up this really caring and a human father figure throughout the whole anime and then when it comes to the really hard and really deep moments he really nails them and it's amazing because you know a lot of the time in anime we do get these one they're characters that require just one static performance throughout and to see someone get the opportunity to just go wild with a character and do all ranges of emotions and nail it it's just amazing next up is Johnny Yong Bosch as lelouch lamperouge and code geass it's really interesting one for me because I think the Johnny Yong Bosch has the kind of voice that can't be used often in because it sounds too unique dare I say but saying that for the loose lamb purrs it's perfect it's fascinating it's downright awesome yeah all you have power heed my words carefully I am burdened by sorrow war and discrimination malicious deeds carried out by the strong the same important interplay of tragedy comedy the world has not changed people still suffer he has this kind of tone to his voice that always sounds like he's lying I don't know why but it works perfectly for Lelouch because he always is lying so when he's delivering a lot of lines you can hear the the alter-ego behind it which is his other characters hero obviously in the show and you can you can kind of sense the uncomfortableness and the the disdain that he has that he has to lie to everyone but also the fact that he loves playing this character he loves being this this leader of the organization and he loves playing the role of zero and when he's playing the over-the-top moments he's amazing at capturing that energy these hands of mine have been dirty for a long time now Suzaku you're coming to face me now doesn't matter at all he'll I welcome it even I mean of course you and I are friends this is the thing that like blows my mind the most you watch that as a viewer and you're like okay it was pretty good but then you realize this guy had to match exact lip flaps while delivering that line right that's hard that's very very hard yet he manages to toy with the emotion and play with the line like it's nothing listen to this these hands of mine have been dirty for a long time now Suzaku you're coming to face me now doesn't matter at all hell I will commit even spoilers by the way oh there's a scene my roller dies later on it's kind of dumb because this character just gets introduced to us and blessed Johnny unboxes he's delivering this line to the best he can but the story's kind of dumb at this point but it's still a pretty good performance listen it was a lie wasn't it what you said about trying to kill me of course and you saw right through me didn't you just what I'd expect of my little brother now as I wrap up this video I'm not saying that all of these performances are equal I'm not saying they're all the same level they're just what I think are noteworthy performances because they do something interesting in the medium that they're in but without further ado I'm gonna wrap it up here thank you so much for watching please let me know down below what I should react to next and what other amazing voiceover performances you think I should talk about in the future or maybe I should try and do stuff
