Oh Chi Minh City Vietnam not everything is as it appears on the surface these people seem innocent enough but what's behind their smiles and what are they really selling today we're at in a legal floating market on the Saigon River where they're selling fruit but is it just any fruit yes it's normal fruit okay [Music] it seems like a non practical setup for selling fruit who is actually going to go down there to buy fruit how does this work so actually the people from there both will bring the food over here to sell it but it's kind of illegal now why is it against the law both oh no they don't have any kind of license you do serve in it okay yeah so it's been how long have you been coming here savannah don't mind enough Roy more than 20 years hold on there's a fruit customer we are right in the middle of a fruit deal are you worried that that woman is undercover what do you mean on this film undercover maybe she could be a police officer but she's pretending to be an old woman no I don't think so in an attempt to get out of eating yet another bug don't think just to be suggested we visit Saigon illegal fruit market luckily one of the vendors has allowed us on board to check out his bananas if banana time we're going on the boat by banana you go first I don't know I don't think I can do it what would you do for the best bananas we can only hope that this board is weight tested up to 150 kilos oh Jesus is this strong enough it's okay no take my hand oh this is romantic do you live on this boat you're somewhat into it I am somewhat nominal yeah I live on the boat all the year Wow how many years have you lived on this boat handle I'm number 25 years are you alone here or do you have a family yeah what is family one Wyatt up one wife and two children ah yeah a good good hahaha I'll to talk uh Jing Chou tell okay great look at that you don't need to worry about anyone seeing this almost nobody watches my videos I'm very unimpressive the reason I want to talk to you is just because your life is very different than mine and I think it's interesting and I just want to know more about it so Liam imagine making it over and over these vendors make the voyage from the Mekong Delta where they collect their fruit back to Ho Chi Minh City where they dock illegally and sell what they can how do you decide what fruits you're going to sell coconut and the bananas is kind of a bad choice for them it's like his long lasting fruit it's not easy to damage right now they're haggling some banana crisis banana for a hot item right now especially these little ones they're very good they're made of feelings how adorable they aren't that's what I say yeah he's like get back here do you see how cute these are smaller than normal bananas your average banana it's at least three times the size isn't that kind of funny yeah so we all think that's kind of fun this gentleman here wants bananas but he doesn't like the adorable small version he wants like the big version I try to use one both but he went to check because he want to check the price and the quality and then would he try later okay and do you think he's overcompensating at all right now there's someone down the street keeping watch for police what do you do when the police come exactly MTAC Monday mignon Gaucho if the police come how quickly can they escape I'm going to ask somebody how long it would take them to put all their stuff back on their boat and get out of here and maybe somebody will even do a drill for us and we can time it and try to get it down to under a minute we want these people to not get arrested people want their fruit I don't want to get political but but today we're digging deeper how long does it take you to pack up all the fruit get it on the boat and get away yeah Louie oh well a Papa wait a mark we say like 10 or 15 minutes really cat is kind of you know I like your hat but I think no what did mom what I thinking on yeah I really like your hat um do you think my bandana looks cool yes all right see everybody I wear a bandana and someone who has style thinks it looks cool our last interview for the day gave me a whole new perspective on what these people really go through like on the boat is really hard life so you have no clean water you have no electric city she has so many like royalty customer yeah yeah all the way come by and buy her food because they know like they can see her cause something like poor living on the cold so they come to support her as well it's like kind of a trustworthy place the more we spoke with this woman the more I learned of the hardships she must go through day by day just to survive we just finished talking to that sweet woman she spoke to you for about two or three minutes what was she talking about this kind of emotional conversation you're talking about the life on the ball how hot it is and the government keep posting them keep banning them from the only way that they can making money for all so she's kind of frustrated right yeah frustrating about it and she she seem like she's losing hope a little bit yeah because every time the government gave her new rose on the bull market acted she always always unless you do exactly what they asked for but they keep like taking away from the trees or a decade from the thing that they salad and they even come down to vote and one that not allow them to sell thing now she kind of like I will not do anything I'm not afraid of anything anymore I can tell that she has a lot of heart did you feel that do you think there are any good options or these people here well hard question but good question that is I think that's the question right what is what is the other option Southeast Asia is filled with dilemmas like this people in difficult situations that seem inescapable stuck in the cycle of poverty that you and I are helpless to influence beggars adults forcing five-year-old kids to sell gum on the streets the handicapped tree selling lottery tickets for pennies and these people fully willing to work but unable to align with the powers that be so what can we do sometimes the most we can do is to maintain our humanity keep our hearts open smile at strangers and promise ourselves to never become numb to the plight of those around us [Music] while that got pretty serious at the end there well if you like this video or my others please subscribe because I'm making new videos every week if you have any questions about what I do why I do it where I'm traveling to next let me know in the comments down below because I'm going to be making a questions type video also what's up for Vietnam see you next week please
