USING BEGINNER FISHING METHODS TO CATCH FISH NONSTOP!

[Music] [Applause] hit the hook [Music] we're in a very special location today we're in the potomac river i've been fishing here in this spot with my dad for well over 15 years now this is actually where i learned how to do most of my fishing it's got huge catfish here during the spring shad and herring and white perch migrate in rockfish migrate in the whole river comes to life and really during this time of year early mid late spring into early summer we're able to get a lot of different kinds of fish out of here today's a special opportunity because we're going to be trying to catch a really big catfish and that's very possible but during this time of year like i said there's a lot of fish a lot of opportunity and i'm excited here with aaron here with my dad it's gonna be a great day let's get started this method of fishing that we're about to do catches you huge fish anywhere you go so it doesn't matter where you're really from if you start using this method you're going to start catching some bigger fish and it's a very simple method you catch a small fish you hook it onto a big hook you catch a big fish and this is a universal technique that is used all over the world so if you are new to catching fish or you want to start catching some bigger fish i suggest you use this method so what we're going to do first is we're going to catch some small bait fish and we do that by using small hooks small flies small baits then we're going to use that on a big hook to catch either rock fish striped bass or big enormous blue catfish i've done this in florida many times i do this in mexico i do this in north carolina all up and down the east coast in the west coast for sharks for bigger fish it's just a proven method and it's a very simple and easy technique to do let's get started so we just got here to our spot i'm in a nice deep hole there's some nice flats over there and the channels to my right first thing we do is catch some bait and there's none better than the sabiki room but here in maryland you're not maryland dc area you're not allowed to use as many hooks so what we do is we cut it down so that we use the legal amount of hooks so two hooks and we're trying to catch some perch to use for live bait but there's just so many fish that would hop onto a sabiki rig like a shad with shad always hit it herring catfish bass perch we're only going to use two hooks like that we're going to tie a little sinker okay now to up my chances to catch perch i like to add a little piece of bait and this squid is actually one of the best things you can use because it's so tough this is the slab right here that i've cut into a smaller piece but i like to cut little pieces like this off little strips like this and i'll just keep cutting them for the rest of the day and then i'll cut them in half then when i put them on for bait i hook it through once like this and this is really great bait for white perch right here okay let's get started so if you're from shore i like to cast it out and let it drift with the water but since i'm on a boat i don't have to catch it that far i can kind of just throw it here wait till it hits the bottom and then i start jigging up and down and sometimes they're not right here so you kind of have to find the hole for the bait they're all usually in one tight hole and once you find one you find a lot so if you're not finding it there try other spots yes perfect exactly what we're looking for this is going to make the good live bait here i mean honestly herring is the best live bait you can get but you're not allowed to use them legally so we're going to be using white perch today live well right here keep them lively and we're gonna try and fill up our bucket with maybe five or six of them and then we'll be ready to fish for catfish for catfish stripers whatever bites but something big is gonna pull it that's for sure you need to go down my dad here is using shad darts and shad darts you're going to catch a lot of shad and herring less perch and he's fishing it differently he's he's jigging it back and that gives it action and that hopefully you can aggregate a fish to strike it i'm fishing more on the bottom here oh yeah doggy disabilities oh i'm on something that's not a perch big boy i don't think so i think maybe i don't know fight i told you anything will hop on it's a big rig well i think it's because i put the squid on it oh wow floating up like dumbo it took the squid oh it's running me see elephants do eat peanuts oh [Applause] high slime factor yes come on whoa nice it's a shad these are such strong fish oh come on oh yeah that's a perfect little one this is a perfect bait size one just got a few more and that one was on the shad darts actually oh this is a herring i think now this is what all the fish are in the water for like these come and migrate up the river like this they come from the ocean they're called herring they come up all the striped bass all the um catfish big fish go after them unfortunately they're off limits to uh keeping [Applause] nice these are like little tarpons [Applause] you see that these are distant relatives of the tarpon and they fight just like them they're really strong they jump all over the place they're hard to land because they jump and their mouths are soft let's let it go wow that was a good invite there you go who left me with a mess so the other day i was fishing the same method with the tandem rig and um we were fishing it slow off the bottom and we were getting no bites then i was retrieving it in quick because i was like all right i want to cast it back out and retrieving it in quick i was catching fish like that so we were like let's change up our retrieval speed so we started reeling it in quicker and that was the trick bringing it in faster that day was exactly how the fish wanted me but today i'm bringing it in fast and i'm not getting any fish i'm getting them when i'm going slower so there's no one answer on how to catch him just depends on the day [Music] oh it was a jumper nice shot and honestly i could fish shad all day but really what we're looking for right now is some perch so that we can catch some even bigger fish i'm going to do a couple more shot first they're so fun another bait yes it's a perfect size one good catch man okay so now that i got some perch i've got a three-way swivel rig right here 25 pound leader four out circle hook and a two ounce sinker right here and this rig as you can see is perfect for when you're fishing in moving water since there's so many swivels there things are going to keep turning because of the current and things won't get tangled up because i've got all these swivels on here so three-way swivel that's the way to go oh nice you got another perch [Music] so the perch i'm going to hook it right in the back shoulder just like this see that and we're gonna just drop it right here let it sink now i'll set the drag so that if anything takes it it'll make a sound and alert me put it in my rod holder and then we wait i'm gonna put the other perch on this rod and this one i'm using a um a heavier rod rated for about an ounce and 25 pound leader line let's put the other perch on this is a nice little slack size one right here i mean you can't step back oh something's chasing it around two two at a time oh no oh my god okay jack i wish you were here oh my god look at that guy that is a big ugly one [Applause] that's a chunky one holy crap that's a fat one look at that belly look at that fat cat that thing is enormous oh ugh [Music] oh this is a big one too are you on one or is it stuck you think this thing is a big one oh it's splashing out there dang that stuff really holy cat that was a big one didn't want to touch that it snapped the last second too let it eat let it take it it'll it'll go with it watch it needs a second to actually eat it i want to start to swim away with it i tighten up the drag oh no it just got out of the mouth you don't set the hook on a perch look at that the whole thing eaten up it came right out of his mouth maybe i'll throw it right back in oh my goodness doggy oh my gosh that's a big cat these are big fat cats it's my workout for the day oh yeah i see him spinning out there definitely a catfish a lot of slime here honestly i don't really want to touch them too much because there's so much slime but honestly i've i know a lot of people who love to eat catfish this right here is a good size right here to eat but i don't eat them so i'm throwing them away all right aaron this time you're doing it okay something's happening [Music] let it eat it and then adjust the drag are you turning it which way are you turning it why is it so loose right now other way okay turn it more it's more okay no you're not supposed to set the hook it's a circle hook you just was the reel turn it off tighten it up feel it start reeling oh she's on oh she's on one she's on a big girl the big girl's on a big girl could be heavier it's moving [Applause] oh snap oh this is a good bicep workout [Applause] there's my catfish right there oh my big one's coming up oh my goodness [Applause] oh my goodness that is a big mama all right i think that a little bigger pliers brandon that was crazy that was crazy that was nuts can you right set that yep drag drag drag drag drag lower the tip put that arm up higher go ahead pull it up oh my god oh my goodness all right what you got oh oh my gosh oh my gosh what happened to this guy oh my goodness oh that's a rock that is a rockfish but that does not look okay i wouldn't even want to touch that thing we go that looks very sickly let's let's put it back in right away bye oh gotcha yes oh he's on something big oh there's not one hoop oh yeah let's just see what this is first could it be could it be could it be a rockfish oh i see it's i see its big white belly it's huge white underbelly i know what that is oh my gosh that's a big one holy crap oh my god this is a big one see all the fish chasing after it holy cow [Music] grab so holy crap these are fat kitty cats you got yours you need help doggy there you go all right let's let him go that's what i call doggies [Music] wow that is a big fat cat [Music] i'd say about 25 to 30 pounds let's get a measurement oh that looks like a dinosaur let's 32-inch this fat boy go see a fat boy oh it's a rock it's a rock oh [Applause] yes [Music] left left so this is a small one compared to that last one though been a while since i've seen a stripe though it's been a while look how beautiful this one looks way better than the one i caught the striped bass let's give it a measure about 23 inches all right let's let it go what are you on is it moving or is it it's what is that is that a fish that is a fish i think it got really wrapped up while i was filming your striper oh my gosh it's like it's a pompano okay she's on something she's selling something now oh it's a little rock fish it's a tiny rock fish oh it's so cute is it a rock yeah it's a little schooly she got a little rock fish it's a little schooly oh good job erin a little football there goes rock and roll there we go oh there's another rockfish eating that too look there's another one right there they're so beautiful with their stripes oh yeah here we go yeah buddy lots of rock fish today but you see you have to go through so many catfish to get a rock fish oh [Music] holy cow that was a good day that was so many fish like it was pretty non-stop for a second that's that's spring fishing right there for you this is why we make the little bit of a drive to get here and and rent a boat and uh it's always worth it it's always worth it to come to the potomac during this time of year comment
