surviving in a frozen wasteland was harder task than i thought when i crashed here i had nothing but myself only my clothes a gun and a knife to help me luckily a few chunks of ship landed nearby some fell next to me on the frozen snow not to mention there were some decrepit ruins as if god himself wanted me to survive in this wasteland there's no escape from this frozen hell sorry sorry i'm here whoever had the idea to send me to a tundra for an intro is a idiot oh we're live oh that's where we're at the script sudden advertisement welcome to new bird's guide about rimworld ice sheet survival guide we will talk about a few important things you must know if you want to survive out there in the frozen wasteland let us begin we will be covering these topics choosing the correct team that's optional for you to watch if you choose only one colonists cannibalism and why it's amazing here the dangers of the ice sheet and why it's proper shelter and base no no igloos food if you can't find any eat snow starting off with choosing a good team for such a task you could either super cheese it by using prepare carefully or just go with whatever rib world gives you should it be a tribal run or just a crash-landed one pay close attention to each and every one of their strengths and weaknesses spend a little more to make the jealous colonists a room a tiny bit more impressive have the sanguine guy take one for the team by doing more dirty work the aesthetic can go sleep on a chunk for all i care make sure to check their skills have only your best constructor make beds have the worst one not even construct any botched resources on the start or a major loss will probably lead to your ultimate demise check everything twice and think about every decision because if you build one thing you might not be able to build another about cannibalism if you choose to start with three cannibals life would be easy for you just bide your time until the enemy comes along kill him and prepare a feast the mood buffs just from that are absolutely insane and will save your life if you are feeling risky you could always open up that ancient ruins the bigger it is the more caskets it will have just remember it might have an increased spacer that will shoot your cannibals so prepare accordingly and randy help you if there's a centipede inside well more like he's forsaking you at the moment but you never know yet this was short not too much to say let's move on to general knowledge and dangers of trying to inhabit the ice sheet should also be a short one the ice sheet is the equivalent of antarctica to us frozen and only a scant few animals can survive in these harsh conditions the temperature can reach to negative 80 degrees celsius and even colder it's nigh impossible to survive in these temperatures which is why planning is mandatory if you want to make it longer than a week or so plants can't grow here so you won't be seeing any of the normal grazing animals here's the tasty flesh of deer is not but a dream unless a caravan visits you then you might have a chance of seeing it growing any plant is going to be a major task as you have to heat up a room by quite a lot and place sun lamps so you will actually be able to plant anything at all it's also why there's no trees anywhere they can't grow here even predatory animals rarely come here and when they do you better have some traps ready because they can either leave the world tile or straight up come and hunt down your colonists or colonists temperatures also always hang around the minus mark at some places summer is negative 35 degrees celsius that's freaking colder than a meat freezer in a butchery in winter attempts can reach above 70 degrees celsius making the outside just not approachable without good clothing made for a good insulator such as a muffler wool may randy bless with that animal be careful and keep an eye on your pawns when they are outside hypothermia is not fun and remember it may be frozen outside for you but so it is for your enemies if a raid starts for you on an extremely cold ice sheet just stay inside enemies will drop dead by themselves because tribals for example come unprepared for negative 50 degrees celsius and just freeze their stupid heads off that being said some raiders may have pockets so early parker i guess early on parker if a siege starts then congratulations you just got three corpses and a mortar a few even those underdressed are likely to just fall flat dead leaving you with fewer enemies to engage sometimes it can be so cold nothing will survive not even your colonists you send out to collect loot cannibals sure gonna be happy though just remember humans and animals may be a lesser threat but there is an enemy that doesn't give a damn it's freezing mechanoids those are the ones you should fear any mechanoids that arrive is a true threat and facing them outside may be your demise try to lure them into traps or a sentry gun perimeter if you can afford it hopefully your colonists have good clothes too if they must go outside but before you even start ice sheet runs remember this the almost inevitable end of year for your colony solar flares if the heater goes out crops grown in greenhouses will die heaters will not work your entire base will freeze in a very short time after the event it may last a day but that day may cost you from a finger to everything because if it killed all your crops just before harvest and you have no extra better start a lottery to see who's gonna get turned in the nutrient pace so everyone else can live remember is said why it's because if you're a colonist agrees with the statement and mentally breaks a sad wanderer is lethal berserk may be lethal catatonic breakdown is a game over if you only have one anything that disables your pawns could be colony threatening i'm looking at you naked brutality and i'm glaring at you randy's solar flare random moving on steel and stone may break your bones but they will also build your farm shelter-wise and you will want to use only steel and any stone block you can get through any means do not waste wood wood is one of the most important and scarce resources here every splinter of wood is valuable here so spend your wood as if it is gold you probably will try to inhabit a ruin by rebuilding the broken parts of the walls as it saves resources good thinking but well it may work not sure about that but the safer choice would be to make a room around a geyser geysers release lots of heat that will help your colonists survive it's not the most suitable temperature control you will probably want to construct an air lock to open and close when you need heat consider to also double layer your walls you don't want any of that heat escaping and make sure not to build the walls too close to the geyser because long-term burn can break them down make a bear axe for your colonists they won't enjoy but well you gotta do what you gotta do it will save you some materials overall you just wanna get behind some doors as fast as you can it's all fun and snowman until someone loses his nose or a few fingers to frostbite you should also invest in getting a power source consider also using caves if you find them excavating room and hiding inside will help temperature wise and resource wise just make sure to follow the temperature rule unless you want a bunch of ugly insects invading one of your bedrooms if you have minus 17 degrees celsius in your base there's zero percent chance of insects towards spawning by that time you will probably have some parkers ready and maybe a few talks building against a rockwell or face can also work in building a base even better if you have a ruin next to it when it comes to storing your valuables you can store them outside for a while at the start food especially for the reason that well it's freezing food will deteriorate outside but it will not rot hell you don't even need a freezer just make a room with a vent outside and a door coolers are non-existent when the outside is cold as hell heat management is one of the most important things that every room needs rooms in such a climate will need two to four heaters depending on the size remember that any poorly heated room will affect other roofs that includes new corridors airlocks are pretty important when it comes to it even though you aren't in space they seem to still have a use here be very much aware of anything dropping in doorways without a barrier heat will transfer fast it may not seem like a bad thing but if you almost lost a fight and have only one colonist standing recovering from a deadly raid they will all die of frostbite just because someone left the front door open by placing a shirt there be greedy when it comes to close try to down each and every raider that comes your way strip them of their clothes and if you have a cannibal even consume their corpses after stripping of course that taint debuff is not something you can afford in such a delicate situation lastly i can only say is be very wary with power conduit placements and such if any of your sun lamps or heaters lose power you will be in big trouble it would be a wise idea to create several lines of power from your power source connect them all through walls just to make sure you won't get fricked over because some sapper threw a grenade at your wall base stuff aside let's go over food it's pretty simple when you're first land no matter what pet you get butcher it yep that's right got a doggo dead got extremely lucky and somehow got a thrombo nope dead at least you got that horn as a melee weapon now pretty good melee weapon really really good melee weapon the reason for this being simple pets eat your food and thrumble will eat it even faster than you will because if you don't know they eat full trees so for your own colony survival make sure to kill your own pet by slaughtering it better you eat it then it eating your meals instead of taking risks keeping it alive even if it's a cute husky that could be tamed to haul but training takes time and more importantly it takes yummy delicious food plus there's not a whole lot to hold not like you have any to spare besides not like the animal could survive on such harsh conditions it's negative 80 degrees celsius nothing survives at these temperatures except water bears but ignore that just remember to forbid the body of the slaughtered pet else your colonists may outright consume it raw and unbutchered might as well name every other pet emergency food supply once again if you have any really useless pawns and a cannibal consider the useless pawn emergency food you may even find yourself making high quality top hats from their face that will look absolutely dapper on your cannibal also from the ridiculous lack of heat in the ice sheet any man-hunting pack becomes a moving food supply that freezes for you over time with just a few well-placed blocks of steel you should receive a nice juicy quantity of meat from animals roaming around and dying from hypothermia guess it wasn't that smart to come here now was it oh you know cause you're dead and regarding drop pods i know how it can feel when you're on low on food and randy decides to become the sweetest angel and just send down 200 delicious buffalo steaks from the sky in metallic containers it's like getting a pizza delivery from a friend just cuts consider the distance travel to get it no one wants to well run to get food and return just as a frozen as the food because unless there's a predator animal nearby don't be in a rush it's not going anywhere remember it's an ice sheet freezing cold the entire biome is like living inside a gigantic freezer and everything walking in it is just a meat product waiting to be eaten and with that we come to a close on our ice sheet survival guide it was great joy making this video for you
