[Music] welcome back to the tour de france on day 15 today as we see the event presented as always by rocket mortgage it's a ride of 150 miles in total i'm a phil liggett alongside me is bob roll we're still in the pyrenees there is no obvious winner of this tour de france as we race towards the second rest day of the event we are in for one big battle in the alps next week land the quintana dan martin luther body reichenbach michael woods kenda and there's an attack by yates well he is a great mountain climber i don't think poor simon gesco can have any answer to that acceleration he's going to try and do what he did last week and win again on the mountains a very powerful emphatic attack by simon yates for the stage win absolutely hammering on the pedal simon geschke going backwards still the chase is about a minute and a half behind simon yates let's see if that's enough of an advantage from michael landa and the chasers to hold off for the stage winner there's the attack moved off we didn't see it pino has been launched into space now they're going to have to chase him and how much damage will the chase do to julian allen philippe or geraint thomas or even stephen christ they've got to chase this man brookman's made it a la philippe trying to get back on terms egan bernal is the man that's fined the slipstream of tebow pino and just trying grimly to hold on to an absolutely flying frenchman the man in the red white and blue group with jersey tebow pinot what a tour he's had from the back bookman ala philippe lucenco and tebow pinot charging four riders going clear where's those wine colored jersey of team ineos the gap has opened that is the end of geraint thomas's tour de france unless that gap closes prophetically predicting it could be a day when he loses three minutes i was surprised to hear him say that but that might come true oh boy the yellow jersey now in trouble for the first time he's measuring himself he's got time in hand and the boys who've got the most time near him are behind him so it's not a day to panic it's a day to consolidate pino looks over he sees the frenchman in trouble coming up alongside him here at the moment and trying to help him is simon gasquet coming what's left in gestures legs now it's been a dream tour for julian olla felipe starting to unravel right now the man in the yellow jersey is in serious trouble we've not seen him in difficulty like this yet here comes thomas back into the action and so too christ fight bernal he's gonna try and gain time on them all this is switching by the kilometer now this man looks as though he might have even recovered a little bit benala's cracked he's it can't hang on to pinot i've never seen peter ride so well tebow pinot six six overall in the tour de france three minutes and 12 seconds off yellow this is bookman and kemna a little bit further back and there is the group of garen thomas and it looks like he's caught julian alaphilippe for the moment he has now can ala philippe hang on another hit against bernal and this one might be the one four kilometers from the summit pino is let loose to chase lander a master at his riding at his own tempo on the climbs going steady they're about to catch out of philippe so garen thomas pacing himself well well poles has brought up the defending champion geraint thomas and now those men are back together again with chrysler the top three riders in the tour are there the fourth man overall is ahead in the white jersey pino is six overall and closing on the ball just now a little bit of a flat touching right here between four kilometers ago and three columns then there's a switchback to the right and then it's a steep couple of kilometers before the last cave flattens out a little bit before the finish line well they all want the rest day now they are all into the red zone on this climb to the finishing line this is going to be interesting whether or not the india squad cooperates with the yellow jersey they do have a teammate in egan vernell up the road so far content to sit on the wheel of the yellow jersey julian alla philippe i think tactics now were to see how bernal can close in arnold may use him later on when we go to the alps this is him number two the talent of the future everybody says number two will win the tour de france as he matures few would disagree i'll tell you turning over a big gear trying to close down to tebow pino this is bookman and kemna still in the game they all cut me back pino is driving on 107 lander 116 pino mike mika land a better watch out we're still three kilometers from the top only eight seconds behind landa and he has a serious carrot in front of him he left later than landa did but they started basically the competitive parts of today's stage around about the same amount of enemy expenditure on the last climb and now it comes down to this the very last climb of the day for all the marbles in the tour de france julianna philippe definitely in trouble today alaphilippe's base a picture of agony and payne because he still has to pull up the defending champion to save his yellow jersey he could lose it to bernal although it's getting less likely now as the tip summit approaches this is the man we keep forgetting about simon yates he's racing for the stage we're not the tour de france lander here he's got other ideas absolutely flying 66 seconds behind the eight we should very shortly see and there he is pino is around the corner he can see lander and behind la pino is bernal about seven or eight seconds back of uh pino let me get to this group the yellow jersey group now he's feeling the full weight of wearing the mario jaw for what is the 11th day of the tour de france but for my money garen thomas not looking too bad as crows attacks now he's got a tight can't go he can't go allah philippe is looking for wheels to follow because chris like is looking to improve his third place overall while paul's trying to bring stephen kroiswick back to the fall with garrett thomas garrett thomas just on the radio to team car to see what they should do they definitely have to cover the counter moves to egan bernal who's still a little bit up the road yates lando pino on the road take all the small bonuses at the finishing line christ white only needs 12 seconds to claim the second place overall of geraint thomas this is bernal being picked up by brookman now he must be slowing down not far behind tebow pino however so egan bernal is making good tempo making good progress and maybe a little bit of a help here from the two chasers they will be able to close the gap to tivo pino who's just in front of them you can see him just in the distance there so igan bernal looking for a little bit of help let's see if they are capable what a commitment by the stars of the tour de france everyone giving their effort as we've gone through the black zones are back in the red zone oh that's hard enough 1.3 miles still to climb and this man is living in hope now because there's a battle behind him he will be totally unaware of he's definitely holding his own against mikhail lander the second man on the road that gap hasn't changed in the last couple of days simon yates for the stage one just a couple of kilometers to go for the brit on the australian team mitchelton scott pino five seconds behind lander this is pino he can see lander the chase is behind a little bit further back now he's taking deep breaths he's swallowing hard he's seen the two kilometers from the summit there is lander he's peddling across to mikhail lander now it'll be two against yates oh landers hurting as well but who wouldn't be at this stage got most of the way across to simon yates but couldn't quite close the gap now he's run out of steam and tebow pinot has the momentum coming up from behind he's taking one look straight into the eyes of tebow pinot bob he's not going to fight him off he's going to help him go we're not helping we'll get together and work together the interesting tactic here being employed by ineos that is the group with the yellow jersey and they're chasing egan vernal up the road [Applause] he's now looking a lot more comfortable there's the attack from thomas it's gone now he's got to follow there's time to be gained by gedi thomas and there's no reaction from julian alaphilippe two kilometers to go for garrett thomas a brilliant stomping attack right there kroy's week made it with valverde but aleph leap that might be his last possible return to the front well what a difference 24 hours has made in the we're seeing guy thomas last year is this man the yellow jersey who was ahead and gaining time now he's losing that time game he knew it would come somewhere he's gritting his teeth he will not give up bernal with brookman remember these boys are all out to gain time they won't slow down to to mess about for the positions on the line it's pouring down now geraint thomas but he's in english weather now maybe i should say welsh weather you probably feel more at home the yellow jersey goes over the top of out poles while poles reacts [Applause] that gap has opened in quite a few seconds there it will not be enough no most certainly is not there is tebow pino with mikhailanda i would give the advantage to landa in the sprint but it'll only be for second place on the stage pino and lander both need to race for time games so they have a real chance of moving into the yellow jersey through the vicious days of the alps next week 500 to go 10 seconds time bonus awaits he doesn't need any time bonuses yates he wants the stage win but the other two guys they would do nicely with a little bit of time bonus thank you very much as they would edge closer to everybody in front of them well he's getting ready he's getting ready he knows it's his he's going to enjoy this time is not of the essence for simon yates mitchell and scott are about to get the third stage win of this year's tour de france it's all over what a superb ever breaking away on the previous climb of the paguir 100 meters to go who cares about a few seconds now boys this is it [Applause] two fingers two wins for simon yates now the battle for second place these guys can't finish they need time they get a six second bonus a second a four second bonus comes off road at all time for the tour de france and tivolpino has ripped away i think he'd be too strong for land after the chase lander pulley he came from the depths of the peloton to being right in touch with the leaders 50 meters to go to the line a good finish by tebow pinot small bonus he climbs up the overall classification a little bit tonight as will michael lander take six seconds off for tevopino and start the clock just a few seconds behind the man in the white jersey there at the start of the stage looking to move up that's emanuel brookman having a fantastic tour de france time bonuses up the road but a tremendous ride by right now here's caimna from the breakaway camden [Applause] one minute two seconds three seconds now the big thing is how much has this rider gained over the yellow jersey he's got price right glue to his back wheel they'll get same time when they hit the line the way he's riding deadline thomas knows literally every second really does count from being out of the hunter backing it by a big way he hit the line 122. where is the mario jordan he'll keep his mario jordan but he will lose time but how much 122 when we saw gayle thomas go through oh it's been hard but he goes to the rest day in yellow as he did just on a week ago up to the line he's losing 24 25 gets to the line that's about it two let's say 28 27 seconds he's conceded but he's still in yellow ball he's survived barely he was in agony in the closing miles but that is a fantastic defense of the lead by julian alaphilippe with no teammates for many miles he was lucky he didn't have a mechanical didn't need that just racing deep into the abilities that he does have did lose some time to the other contenders but wow another day in yellow and he still has a pretty solid lead he's going to have that jersey for a number of days in the future yeah it's still possible it's a sprinter's day we think when we come back after the rest day tomorrow we go to neem for a big circuit race right around the countryside in nema for the win here for simon yates and this is reichenbach the champion of switzerland in amongst our pictures all day today coming up towards the line a bit of a traffic jam getting the cars off the co off the course they're not allowed to pass through the cameras obviously that's kreuzinger coming in over the line too and there is the nairo quintana three minutes late go for a win out if i'm not mistaken that was rigo berto iran as well so a big time loss for the ef leader in the gc he started the day in seventh might lose a few positions in the overall standings tonight and this is the beautiful fortress here which looks down on what and it's a long way behind where those riders have just finished here's the stage result yates gets his second win of the tour de france tebow pino gains time mika lander gains time bookman gains time and bernal gains time over the yellow jersey dan martin comes in as well time has ticked by a little bit for dan three minutes 40 down that's michael woods crossing the line too he had a great day today [Music] it's gonna take a while before he gets the podium [Music] without doubt he's the new star of the tour de france there's the the chateau overlooking the town of foie i think he'll keep his lead of calculations are right by one minute and 35 seconds over again like maybe we can find out there we are one minute after 61 hours of racing 135 to last year's winner geraint thomas christ stays third tebow comes up into fourth bernal despite his efforts goes down to fifth overall today bookman goes down to six lander is up in seventh the world champion val verde we don't see it too often but he's up there in eighth place full sang and rigaberturan just dropped down to ninth and tenth respectively you
