well a great start to today's stage of the tour de france as we continue presented by pocket mortgage we're heading into the pyrenees today finishing at banya de bego which is on the flat ironically it's a lovely day for bike racing too a lot of cloud around we're in our usual little box as we start the commentary tucked away in the middle today in fact we all went into the wrong box with our bags this morning it moved us hello everybody welcome back philly with bob roll bob we're seeing two races right now 40 guys 50 kilometers opening the races an average speed today a massive breakaway for the stage win and the gc battle might unfold on the last climb category one before the finish two for the price of one on today's stage but it's going to be a very complicated stage win for the breakaway so many guys from so many teams it's going to be a really intriguing finale one man in this leading group and he's written a great race to try and win the king of the mountains now rather than just take the lead it's tim williams he's just gone over the top of this first first climb he's got the point only one point available we can show you that right now there's 40 riders in this front group and on the climb of montulier san bernard he takes the point and every point may count he's got 44 points in the overall classification as we go into the real climbs of the tour de france the flag of south africa on the left there on mandela day a kilometer to go now as we watch here mulberger flick his elbow and say to yates come on through nosing away at the moment 10 points first man over the top but more importantly for these riders the small time bonuses eight five and two for the first three over the top won't really count too much because these are not the leaders of the tour de france the eights at the moment already 68 minutes behind overall bill bauer almost reached them bob and he's fallen back again bilbao is the man chasing from astana very good climber in his first tour de france so very experienced riders in front of him but he's almost back on turns with them and here's a much bigger chase group it eases off to just about six percent average for the final kilometer of this climb that is the king of the mountain in the break got some points maximum points on the first climb the perry sword caught by the peloton and now being dropped by the peloton but as that peloton is coming up with all the contenders locked in together nobody has turned a wheel in anger all day so they're all trying to back off and save the energy for the time trial the race of truth tomorrow and then we climb the tormentor calder torment stands and at meters above sea level and we'll finish on top this is the chase group [Music] [Applause] he's not back in that group yet he's still third on the road new burger and yates putting the backs into this because 90 miles largely descending [Music] they could stay away this is a big move by yates here he's purposely lost time throughout the race just to help his teammate adam when necessary but today took his chance in the breakaway and all of a sudden he has a chance of winning a stage here it'll be interesting to see what happens when people bilbao catches them and then the two men in the front by the way each have a teammate in the chase group behind pale bilbao so if they start cooperating with people it would indicate they were all in for themselves and their teammates would sit on the chase that should theoretically be led by the two men from the agr team and that's tony gallipan yeah and his should be a very interesting finale lots of tactics in play right now absolutely right i'd well he looks as though he is actually he has a bad spot down there failed bilbao but he is slowly clawing his way back here two-stage wins stages seven and twenty in the gyro d'italia for that youngster down there there's another youngster it's his first tilde france is actually 29 years old now here we go to the summit [Applause] that's a serious 10 points simon yates taking that rule burger getting the eight points for second place [Music] five kilometers to go now this is the chase number one roach trenton frank shackman turns at fellini galapa and powell's pals got on to them and they're gonna go through to the finish they'll be good spin there over a kilometer behind almost two kilometers for the chasers three k's to go back over the river and they'll take a couple of more twists and turns before that last 180 degree corner with 750 meters to go and then with 200 meters to go there's a slight bend also in the finishing straight away so timing is going to be absolutely critical for the stage win well we've had an s8 cell winner stage of the tour de france but we go back quite a long time it was shawn yates now retired he won a title in fact from an early start now this is simon yates here [Applause] remember what steve schlanger said that one corner could throw them off the line with a two and a half kilometers to go so that shot returned corner could be crucial as we run into the line if it is to be a british rider the brits are looking for the 70th stage winner of a stage of the tour de france tonight look for the hard left 180 just after the 1k kite let's see if anybody attacks before that point try to get a little bit of advantage and get a surprise jump on simon yates and how they position themselves now for the next kilometer is going to be very very important so simon yates sitting on let's see if he starts to take the hindmost and not cooperating more looks like he's going to sit on with two k's to go that might be the best tactic of the day well this looks like a coming together here [Music] shachman third place champion of germany it looks like you're right big group about to catch the second group out on the road that we're probably in the breakaway before they've merged to 14 riders there now but it's all to no avail as far as the first three places these boys are gonna fight it out we are one mile from the finish now the tactics will come in they've got yates on the front but they're still willing to keep it away 158 won't be closed now the shadow boxing may start bilbao takes them through i think he's the most least likely to succeed which made you probably win you never know especially after a long hard day with two big climbs fresh legs might dictate who wins much better than who's a faster sprinter well i'm rather keen to see this switchback corner we did drive around it coming here it's quite a sticky one a little thick of the elbow short turns now by yates looks at bilbao buellburger comes through one kilometer to go the streets are quite narrow here they weren't figuring on a bunch sprint and they're not going to have one either into banyo de bego only the 12th time 13th time rather we have come here facebook mulberger knows this is his biggest moment he's very worried about the word about it yates there's the sharp corner gently taken lining up bilbao doesn't want to be there and yates has maneuvered the best position here in all honesty i know blue burger can finish but i really have never seen him win a sprint twitching to one side who's going to open up the sprint i suspect that bilbao might yates is trying to push them both forwards it's like a track sprint this but we don't often see this do we view burger checking all the time riding him close to the barriers making him make a move from one direction only and it's going to be after over the top of bilbao here because he's gone into the slip stream of bilbao the finish is closing in the spanish flags are on the rails yates it's all and everything for the team they were hoping to get 20 in the sprint it had to be yates in the end yates was the man who attacked and he's gonna go he's gone to on the track he's coming out of that bendy now we'll see the finish watch the switch he's got the lead why would he want it beginning holding it's a long way to the line bringing him down the barrier here as the flags of finland fly this is the final desperate moment by bill bell and he hits the line and he gets it right on the line i'll have to say that blue bell had a great finish there so that's uh simon yates's first tour de france stage win and for great britain it's the 14th ever stage win for the british bike rider so mitch von scott also getting their second win and we continue the trend of a different stage winner every day of this year's tour de france looking like teach benut giving the slip to the men in the breakaway he'll come in for the fourth place position there's your stage winner
