things and welcome to the HUD show booty neighborhood how you doing everybody this is Tokyo this is an area that's not you far away from where I live in Chu award which is the center of Tokyo it's about a 15 20 minute walk from Ginza 20 minutes from Tokyo Station it's very close you can catch us on the hibiya line as well as the the jr. SOBU line which comes through here going towards tobu tojo station from Chiba it's a beautiful area not one that you're gonna find a lot of tourists and one that I want to show you today this is the only in Japan go channel definitely subscribe live updates I've been doing live updates about travelling Japan a lot of people are worried about the coronavirus so definitely subscribe because I'll be doing another update soon about that but this neighborhood hot chill Bodie here it is represented in a painting with the Goya woodblock print this is kind of what it looked like I guess back in the 8o period but actual Bodie is a town that wasn't established until 1931 so it's it's relatively new as a town it's part of the Kuehl Bashi neighborhood and it's a place that had a lot of shrines and temples and you can see one bead here by the bridge this would be I guess kind of a small shrine that they created right here by the bridge assist me nami takahashi i've been here before about two years ago when i was looking for an apartment to stay and i'm back here again nice a little shrine right here thinking a lot of the locals will come here and pray show your respect and there's a torii gate here as well and then this bridge this bridge is was constructed in 1932 it's kind of has that look from the Showa era made out of metal and this Britt Britt this river here the taki I believe it's called Tajima bridge it connects with the Sumida gawe where you'll see space boat over there on this side but this area here all over here is actually Tokyo's first man-made island called Shin Kawa and this neighborhood is pretty neat a lot of high-rise mansions you'll see here beautiful places that you could stay in but the rent is a little bit high so I couldn't I decided not to move here exactly but not too far away some really nice places I love the peacefulness of this area as well there's some boats here the color of the of this area is really nice and you see some beautiful ducks enjoying a fairly warm January February 1st afternoon here it's February 1st in Tokyo shortcuts here keep doing what you're doing sir thank you for great information entertainment you're very welcome thanks for joining us on this trip so I'm gonna take you around this area now what is a lot of you might be watching this live stream because there are so many budget hotels in this area this is a place where a lot of tourists are coming so if you do see people coming here it's because they're staying here for one of the budget hotels right over there across the river is the door meet in in the center of your screen kind of a funky name but it's one of the budget in business hotel a lot of tourists are staying there usually it's under ten thousand yen or $100 a night even cheaper in the offseason and they really knew how to make bridges back then Tokyo has been undergoing a bridge restoration project for the last two-and-a-half years and they're just completing that and in another live stream next month I'll probably take you along the Sumida River and show you how beautiful the bridges are now but right now it's hot chill Bodi there's one of the locks that goes out to this Sumida River so if there was ever a typhoon or a tsunami they closed these locks to make sure that these small canals aren't flooded and Tokyo is a city of canals it is sort of like Amsterdam if you look on the map a lot of them have been filled in some of the the rivers that go through the city that were major transport highways for boats for commerce back in the Adel period enough filled in and became highways for the 1964 Olympics again here's the plaque for the Minami takahashi and it was constructed in 1932 just a year after hot chil Bodie was established hot Chow meaning eight towns Bodie meaning cave it's pretty cool that's my bike don't take it anybody come back here it's gone I know it was because they watched it nobody does is my bike water then what did I point that out some things are kind of weird in the live streams because they're live now this neighborhood is been undergoing a lot of renewal as well a lot of really nice new businesses are opening up here's a flower shop it smells so good really pretty facade to it it's quiet the thing with hot cha bori the neighborhood is quiet and it's just a short hop away from Ginza and Tokyo Station I'm gonna take you to the left here and tell you about a festival and then we're gonna loop around to hot chabot Dean Mitchell May which is where the station is and where you're gonna find the world's best banana juice stand literally the Japanese TV calls it the world's best banana juice didn't know you could just a banana but I think you can juice anything now this intersection here I'm gonna make a quick left I just want to show you a temple now this temple here on the right side this is where you're gonna find a really bizarre festival that takes place in the middle of January I missed it this time it's sort of like a naked man festival where a bunch of dudes are running around I'm pretty much naked but they they have this competition okay it's it's a tradition that's been going on in this neighborhood for a long time this this shrine right here dudes and women women can participate as well they have special robes for the women they can I'm pretty sure it's a shrine because there's a torii there but the yeah it says Jinja so this is a shrine I'm pretty sure that women can participate but it's a contest to see how long that you can stay in freezing cold water bizarre right so they have a pool with ice in it and people jump in it and they see how long they can stay in the champion I don't know what they get but I came too late to cover this in a live stream which is a shame but it's a it's a nice location it's very quiet streets that's it hot your booty looks like look how quiet it is it is a weekday I sorry it's a Saturday very beautiful weather today you can tell it's a ginger a shrine because of the Cody gate that it says ginger so we're gonna cross the street and move over towards the station area on the way I'm gonna show you some stuff now there were a ton of temples and shrines in this area especially temples it is famous for temples too but it they were moved over to the Asakusa area I believe during the 8'o period it is a really beautiful it's a very beautiful shrine isn't it peaceful I can get Oh Miko G right here you see fortune-telling slips usually about a hundred yen I'm afraid to know my fortune I feel fortunate but a lot of the temples and shrines removed and in its place came condominiums you see a ton of high-rise apartments those temples and shrines were moved to Asakusa up in the north and yeah this became a place of residence hot cha bori was I guess we could say was a filled in moat of eight towns all just combined into one not a lot of information on the internet about hot cha bori again like this is just a place where people live but maybe there's a lot more here like the world's most delicious banana juice which is we're gonna try to go have it I heard there's a really long line for that how much is a small apartment there it's good question I you know when I looked at it depending on the size and the location and how far away we're about about seven minutes walking to the the hot cha bori station I'd say it's a roughly a thousand dollars two to two thousand dollars because of the location a two to room bed a two-bedroom apartment in this area probably is going to set you back a you know to two two to two and a half thousand dollars probably in that apartment I don't think it's gonna be very cheap and they have a beautiful balcony look at the views that they must have from up there it's not gonna be cheap to live in this area that's Shin Kawa over here this way is hot cha bori and there's four neighborhoods ha cha bori each O'Mahony Jame Santa Mae Young show me let's cross over here take one more look at the canal this is the quiet side of it and we're gonna walk over to more of a city setting it's again like very very close to Ginza and nihon Bashi good place you want to grab a bento walk walk around the neighborhood spend the afternoon a day like this pretty flowers nice benches here in the evening a load of office workers walked through here going to the train station so there are some offices let's look back at the bridge I mean I'm Utah Kobashi right there that's where we started the livestream there's a little bit of construction over there but all of the bridges along this 2 meter river are got a little bit of a restoration and some of the older ones are so beautiful right now a tie boshy just finished its restoration took a year and a half I don't even think they needed it but it's got its neon what LED blue lights back on it an impressive building all right I wanted to go over here so we're gonna jump this green fence sometimes in these parts of Tokyo now Tokyo was heavily bombed in March 10th 1945 so we lost a lot of the history the buildings there the fires really really wiped out this area especially over there Sumiyoshi more teesta on the other side of the Sumida River Yoko goo really really got hit hard from the the fire bombing most of the houses back then were made of wood so when the fires when the bombs came down it just the city of Tokyo was lost hundreds of thousands of buildings the amount of dead was they say a hundred thousand so you'll see all over the city this almost the same kind of a landscape the telephone wires above and lots of new buildings and that's just because in nineteen World War two there was nothing and they just rebuilt it all they had concrete buildings kind of just shacks for a while then those shacks were taken or taken out in the 70s in the 80s and fixed up into these tower mansions behind me and then going straight ahead a lot of these buildings this one might be built pretty much right after World War two looks like from the 1950s kind of an older facade to it yeah that's this citizens area for the community I like I do like doing these live streams because just around us all around us you can see everyday life trucks scooters ubereats blowin by us so here's a Family Mart it's kind of hidden so at the end of the street there you see a lot of cars and that's the main artery that'll go to a place called Takara Chau if you take a left and Takada Cho is very much Ginza it's like right on the fringe of Ginza so probably a 15 20 minute walk but in the back streets this is where you're going to find a ton of izakaya like really nice bars that serve incredible food some of them are very gourmet some of the courses can be pretty pricey there's one right there like if you're looking for off the beaten path here's a old looks like a warehouse that we turned into a Joseph shop so you get some gourmet gyoza over there here on the right side is it looks like it says brewery so they serve an old oh no sort of fish cuisine no dole go to forget I forget how they say it but it's really good fish a little pricey for a note oh good ol cuisine so it can be a little bit pricey for it but it's pretty good they have all you can drink and eat specials in there and this a yakitori placed up there look here's a little supermarket matamata is a supermarket chain they have a petite one there's not a lot of supermarkets in central Tokyo okay there's not a lot of supermarkets here just because there's not a lot of space this building looks like it's also a leftover from World War two I don't again like even the internet doesn't have a lot of history of the buildings but from this side you can see the back of this will go around it and take a look at it it looks almost like an abandoned house there's a 24-hour gym fast gym and a yakitori restaurant in the center of your screen and hot cha bori station so we've come from the back and I thought it'd be good to take a look at that to start off with now we're gonna go to the front of hot cha bori station again like you could park your bike here you don't have to pay I like that this is one of the conveniences of being a little bit outside of Ginza and Tokyo Station there's not a lot of people even on the weekend there's a beautiful park there as well very like a suburban kind of feel to it you know and it's just funny because of how close we are you can literally walk to took your station in 15-20 minutes from this point taxi would probably take you five minutes or less you're hot jo booty you have the hibiya line and jr. here all right moving along hey David keep it ah nice to see you here it's the last night here so I'll be putting the super chats good you take an eye out for dinner cuz I'm not gonna see her for a few days I'm heading to Hokkaido tomorrow morning early so there's a live stream at Haneda Airport to kind of assess the situation look at this oh they're loading up the vending machines the drinks that they have here probably the main intersection of hot Joe Bodie I say probably because I always come here by bicycle so it's hard to say yeah this is it this is would be the main intersection hot Joe Bodie station and already I can see a lot of hotels here budget options to stay ton of restaurants there's a Japanese pork restaurant that could be that like izakaya the yellow sign over there there's a foam EEMA the convenience store and there's a youth hostel across the street look at that they've taken that old building and turned it but it looks like it used to be an old office building and they've turned it into a youth hostel wise owl hostel they have a bar on the first floor we'll get a closer look at it as we walk towards that direction we're gonna go to some of the alleys back there but I wanted to take a whoa did you see this so do you see that old wooden building it's sort of part of this like a makeshift metal building so what we saw on the other side is kind of supported by this new building that could be something maybe a piece of history I'm quite interested in this a piece of history from World War two maybe that building did survive the fire bombing I'm pretty interested to learn more about the history of it so the shop is closed today but maybe I'm going to ask them about it tomorrow looks like it's a tobacco stand but from the back you can see it does look like a cement building maybe that was slapped up after world war two I don't see any of that wood building it's like they've they've slapped like the 1930s 50s and 70s is all slapped together in this one one building this is so interesting right I'm waiting for the signal to turn to turn green across the street but I don't see any remnants of that wooden building there's got to be a story behind that right pretty interesting it's pretty interesting all right let's cross the street go over to this youth hostel walk around on this side of the street there is a no Saka restaurant on the other side kushikatsu which is deep fried like yakitori looking stuff that that's you dip it in the sauce I love eating that with Kevin very cool I see that they have everything in English so I'm guessing that they have a lot of foreign tourists to come here just come inside for coffee muffins and cookies very nice hmm not bad at all oh there's a mailbox good so I like to do this when I'm live too sometimes I have postcards here to put in the bail box all right Shannon here's your postcard this is the extra bonus postcard that's going there Ben from Nottingham here's your postcard going in Ben Tom from Louisiana and oh Shannon there's two in here I'm trying to get these out these are from last month so that's going in there so there you go happy travels thanks everybody is supporting on the post card club and on patreon much appreciated there's anyone who supported in January I sent you postcards and I think Shannon signed up oh oh it's great all right run-run anybody who supported in January I'm sending two postcards I might extend that to anybody who signs up until February 10th when I come back from Hokkaido I'll send you another postcard to say thank you if you're a new member it's all the other thumbnails from last last year on one card okay so this is looks like Chinese cuisine here everything is under like around five five coins five five hundred yen or one coin there's a chi game miso flavor chigae look at that spicy that'll get you going all right now this this is a Main Street there's really nothing too special about it this is an old building that looks like it was reconstructed in 1950 said after World War two looks like it's getting renovated which is a good thing it's low you can tell all these low buildings definitely from the 50s and post World War two because surrounding it are these taller buildings it's nice to see getting some love and maybe it'll have a second life so let's say goodbye to the main street we're going in now to the alleys here we go aha now you start to see some of the older buildings this one definitely looks like it's seen its day look at that it almost looks like it was charged like it was burned and in the fires 1945 who knows the history of some of these buildings I wonder it makes me wonder I really have a lot of questions I might come back and do a Tumtum just knock on the door and ask but what is that made out of is it copper yeah this is made out of copper that's interesting I'm gonna come back and ask about that that's like why would they put copper on the sides of the building there fascinating I'm like I guess they're reinforced some of them were wood buildings they can wood was a was the construction that was used this is a low building as well and you can see this one has like a sheet metal around it rested sheet metal could have been just slapped onto the side of the wood buildings to keep the structure together but it's interesting to see the contrast and I don't know how long these these buildings are gonna be around because Tokyo's kind of making them ripping them down but this is hot chill body sancho may the third town and this looks like an they tore down one of those shacks and built a new apartment maybe in the 1980s this one looks like there's another another sheetmetal house probably oh look at that little belt could either made up there how cool is that I could see myself up there just hanging out enjoying the summer drinking some some having some drinks with friends it's another old looking building and then an interesting interesting alley you see there's trees behind between the alleys again this is historical place and some of the nature that that they wanted to maintain they was replanted after World War two bring back everything that was destroyed in the in the firebombing well somebody live in there somebody does live in there so some of these alleys still exist interesting I'm afraid to go in there some of the old-timers they don't want to change their lifestyle so they live the way they've been living for decades just because the neighborhood around them has changed and gotten modern doesn't mean they have to I respect that all right so I wanted to take you down here but it looks like it's completely under construction let's go take a closer look and then you can see some of the older buildings and some of the hotels there's a big up a hotel here and this looks like either this is a mansion or a brand-new apartment building shortcut right stood here just in case you see a vending machine plus you have the best mods I think that might be the first time the moderators got a super shot thanks your cut I will definitely stop I'm gonna see if I can get that banana juice they call it the world's best banana juice so I want to take a look and try it out and see if it's true look at this building this has got so much personality it's it actually it's a yakiniku restaurant where's Anika NUCCA Shu they have a small gyoza chibi goes out they're selling here it says here chibi gyoza and yakiniku I would come back here just to check it out they must have been making yakiniku for decades look at that building definitely post-world War two like slap it up concrete building look at the cracks in it might have been from the 2011 earthquake there's another old building this one looks like it's been abandoned did you see the windows are taped up you can see the cracks were fixed giving it like a veiny look to it brand-new air conditioners it's it's it's so interesting because I think with the way that the city is is is changing so quickly and this looks like it's just closed because it's the weekend you have some sort of a shop here I love how even in the city and this corner here they still have like plants that they'll set out to get some light and nobody takes these nobody will steal these plants or anything like that this looks like a very old marker that's been here for a long time they have mommy machi so they have the this selling some sort of food at 5:00 in the afternoon on the on the third which is the day after tomorrow which is the day with people help other people with beans it's one of the one of the celebrations it's interesting I really do like seeing the different kinds of architectures here this is an old coffee shop as well like a piece of ten and oh wow digging up history I wonder they find anything down there are we gonna go around the construction going to back alley here I hope the signal stay it's pretty strong for you we got a couple other things I want to show you and then I'm gonna double back around show you the hot cha bori area this one looks like a inside the first floor of a new building a well that's cheap for a beard that's a dollar fifty for one beer that's crazy Asahi super dry that can't be right I'll be back Oh Spanish bar on the other side analogous tienes tapas para todos los Cousteau's Akula mejor calidad provecho don't know what that means could have just chanted something where genie pops out of the corner of the screen right here so while I'm walking the street now that I've bring it up I'm sure a lot of you are looking at the architecture there's a low-rise building somebody's moving in apparently and you see the two little rise older buildings and then there's a brand new apartment building and look at how they've they've really gotten higher you have to go above eight floors before you get sunshine and that's a big deal like if you're looking for apartments you want sunshine and these on the first first six floors aren't getting a lot of sunshine just because of the taller buildings around there lot of little teeny cafes and surprising places let's go down this alley and then wrap around to the Main Street this little coffee shop I love it it's closed because I think in this area because we're so close to the business district a lot of the places are closed just because they get their business from salary men workers now looks good loco moco will Hawaii Hawaiian dish here whoa extreme milkshakes what I like that one with the big churros sticking out of it I guess you could sit outside with a beer or something - I like that I like this if it's crowded inside we'll bring it out to you you can sit right here stand right here in an alley all right let's let's keep moving here walking in these back streets is very gonna find a lot of history a lot of a feeling of old Tokyo even today this looks like an old building again you can tell because it's only two two stories high and it's bigger than most of the other ones like they have a lot more space but they've kind of renovated it and turned it into a more modern looking first floor and the second floor still looks like it's from the 50s it's an easy Chaya and there's a bunch of sake and should you shoot you bottles outside of it there's a construction once a head once again and it's on the alleys that you're gonna find a lot of cafes and restaurants I think this is what a lot of people come in to Japan to Tokyo are looking for you want to get away from Akihabara and from McDonald's and the chain restaurants come out here into the neighborhoods away from there and and find these kinds of places that really make you feel something different you know there's a brand new building looked like it was constructed in 1990s it's got that maybe 2,000 I think yeah it's probably a millennial millennium and it's got that that fresh concrete look to it and then next to it looks like a 1970s building you can tell from the this circle 60s just late 60s or 70s kind of a groovy looking structure because it's it's also higher than two stories and there's a little shack up on the top alright and here's another new looking building look at this in the alley okay there's no way you could find this unless you liked lived here they don't open until about 5 or 6 p.m. the streets are deserted here not because of the quantifiers but because it's just a weekend again the signal might not be as strong in here let me make it out to the main street here the corona people are here they don't come here on the weekends Osaka is the same way the central business business district and areas outside of the terrorists areas are pretty much closed or are quiet here's another alley and on the other side there's a business hotel today's trash day I hope I remember to take out the trash it's nice to see this is still some mom-and-pop businesses mutsuo got tailor shop another one of those old 1950s post-world War two looking buildings they basically just needed housing they slap these up so quick and did the best that they could do with the materials that they had and over the time we've had to had some pretty big earthquakes especially the one just about seven eight years sorry 2013 11 so we've had some pretty big earthquakes and nickel it's a a smiley bento shop look at that this business here in this old nineteen post-world War two building is a bento shop so there's probably a really nice old lady with a big smile selling bentos to people and that that's Nico Maru I mean Circle bento yeah that's so cute I'll have to come by and check it out probably selling it to the business people that come here on the weekdays but as you as you're starting to see like walking around outside of the tourist areas you really do get immersed into the designs the architecture the changes in the that show the history of the city look at this building definitely built after 2000 brand new probably tore down one of these cement houses from post-world War two and and or maybe it isn't hold on let's get a closer look maybe they just use the glass to give it a modern looking facade it's hard to say all you can do is get a closer look oh no it's a new building really pretty I'd love to have an office here look at that and on the top there's a tree it's not you know it's it's odd though if you did buy this property most people would want it over over three floors you can now go even higher you can see over over the decades the laws have changed so the heights of the buildings have changed let's walk let's walk down back back to the main street I'm looking for the banana juice it smells really good from this cafe this one's too oh it's closed right now but I think lunch time ended that's why they have a cabbage rolls and Hamburg steak curry set for 1000 yen so that's about 10 . less than ten dollars for this lunch set 11:30 to 2:30 so they just closed smells wonderful so check it out Rovin ro ven is the name of the cafe there's a Chinese shop Chinese restaurant and you Thanh a beef tongue grill another yakiniku looking place famous for beef tongue and other other roasted beef so looks really good here's another he's a Chaya very traditional place probably serves good fish love the tree right there in the front of it it's it looks like it's a family-run business that's been around for a long time they live on the second floor maybe and serve on the first floor those places a lot of them still exist and that's where you're gonna find the best food I think you don't need a Michelin star to be really really good okay Tokyo's got more Michelin stars and than any other city in the world but you definitely don't need a Michelin star there's the construction I think a lot of you been following me around you know where to go now I look at this old shoe shoe shop here they're selling shoes looks like a family-run shop as well a laundromat looks like it's been renewed oh there it is there's the banana place hey guys it's a banana juice I gotta get in line all right let's give it let's give it a minute cuz there's a line I'm gonna walk around and then come back they say that this is the best banana juice in the entire world old Japanese TV said that and if you are in hot cha bori you've got to come here for some banana juice seriously like there's a line there's nobody here but they're still in line what does that tell you tells you this place is good are they waiting in line or what I wonder all right I'm gonna just take you in the other side we're gonna come back around and see see if we can get up on Anna juice because that's my goal down here there's another alley takes you to the Main Street they're making the but energy as I can hear it there's more people that just came and we gotta we got to do this okay we're gonna wrap it up really quickly I gotta go get some banana juice I'm gonna take you out of the main street wrap it around and come back to the banana juice place just want to show you some more of the old buildings this one looks like an old coffee shop called Bob this is awesome coffee Bob and then they wrote in here in hit Agana Baba Kohi baba no it says here it says here Pabu coffee pub Bob so you can get beer I guess here why limit yourself to coffee when you can have beer as well I love that wow this one looks really old as well this is an old restaurant it's right now it's closed ton of ton ton of history even though the the firebombing wiped out a lot of the old buildings the families still had that plot of land and you could tell after the fires because of the curbs after they have fires you can tell the plot of lands usually the base of it I was here this one is available for development looks like it's been open for a while so a lot of the families that had businesses here rebuilt hey guys I heard I saw that there was no sound so I've come back to off of the pin mic there's no wind here back where I started it there was a lot of wind so here's hot Joe Bodie station sound was okay all right sorry guys I don't sorry if I got these pin mics are not very good with the sound but we're still learning it son full blast I guess one of the receivers is not as good as the other one sorry alright there's a lot of family restaurants this looks like like a city area alright that's why I like going in David for the banana drink we reaches gracias cuz they just saw this fast restaurant ten minutes ago and Sarah for the banana juice thanks for the videos John can't wait to visit again soon you're very welcome thank you guys appreciate it very much so all come easy money so the name of that river that we started off was not taki Jima vodka made Jima okay and this is common Juma boshy which is the bridge for that little canal that we started the live stream from I'm sorry commie means turtle and Jima means island and so this this is the Turtle Island bridge it's hard to see that it's a bridge though just ran into the lounge turn TV down I'm so sorry mump here the audio just changed the reason why is because I was using this wireless mic and I don't know one of the unit's I think is not good that's the one can I always had a low low voice I even though the evolvement volume was up on high it went from like 5200 I apologize alright let's go get some banana juice oh this guy's got to choose now that that was supposed I want that juice so you order it and then you have to wait while they make it it's supposed to be the best banana juice in the history of bananas no way that guy's going up beat him screw that guy [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] so I guess you can't carry much all right so it says here no pictures just gonna put this here yeah [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right so this is the famous hot cha bori banana juice so he asked me where do I live and I told him my lips I live in the neighborhood here not too far away they go come on back I know the other guy with seem to pick up an order I know that was overeats but he said only in Japan I go yeah because it's rare to see you in Tokyo usually you're in the countryside and I said yeah he was dead he watches only in Japan - very interesting I'm proud of that proud of that so here we go let's try this this is from Sona s ona they're quite famous they've been on Japanese TV a lot which I think they don't want a lot of people recording in there that's probably the reason why so let's try it the best banana juice in the world they say that's really good it's really good is that an overpowering banana taste it's very very very good there's some milk in it so it's like a milkshake but Wow I'm very happy with this this is good sometimes you need just a small reason to go and visit an area right maybe banana new juice is that small reason for you to come too hot you aborting and then explore some of the streets here because it is an extraordinary neighborhood that where the buildings and the architecture of it show the history of the city of Tokyo you can you're walking from all of the post-war places you're seeing there's that glass building right there in the center so you see buildings from the Millennium from 2000 on and then you see buildings from the 1950s that are still still here that are being fixed up and then you see a lot of tower mansions that have been built over the last 20 years but the history of this place goes all the way back to the 8o period hot djibouti as i said in the beginning of this didn't actually start as a city until 1931 where it was at an area of eight towns it was an area of eight towns that was all put into one called hajjali which is what the meaning means eight town cave and that and the small towns that were part of kill boshy they were not very big towns they just incorporated it all and I think it was in the 1960s they created the subway stop down the hibiya line Wow the reason why it's a little bit pricey I think I think it's like six six dollars but that's an interesting-looking shop it's about six dollars for the banana juice but they used the best bananas like organic bananas imported from a banana zone I should have asked more but roast beef and wine shop hey Marty for the banana thanks Marty it's good you'll find a ton of izakayas back here a lot of family restaurants that have been handed down from generation to generation some of them are gonna be a little bit pricey out on the Main Street where things are a lot newer and the city of Tokyo is more evident here you're gonna find a lot more chain restaurants comodo soba I think Tokyo cheapo has and has a guide on the area but the problem with Tokyo cheapest guide is it really doesn't get into all of the family businesses and doesn't even talk about the architecture that you're gonna find back in the middle of the alleys walking around there it's like going back in a time kimono so boys was actually a pretty good chain there's nobody in there but you can see the plastic models they have some really good looking soba with tempura and here's a cut so don't oh nakatsu don't set though it looks really good that's um 940 n-no sorry 640 n that's that's ridiculous a crazy price all right I'm gonna wrap around here and go back to the bicycle I'll probably do another six or seven minutes so thanks for joining me let's keep going on the other side is a Denny's on the other side of this other Street I don't know maybe Denny's Japan is a reason for you don't want to come to haunt your booty if you don't like banana juice that's just crazy who doesn't like banana juice come on banana juice it's awesome there's the river where we started my bicycles over here so I gonna walk back in that direction we seem pretty good we've seen a hot Joe body each O'Mahony chill may Sancho Mae and Yun Chao Mei is we didn't get over there but Yohn chijmes also has a lot of history let's go take a look at this bridge this is the Kama Jima the Turtle bridge the Turtle Island bridge sometimes the buses will talk do you hear that it says it says I'm turning left this bus as it's turning left it's a teeny mockery must go Jewish to the side again the weekdays it's so quiet around here so I own the week guns got brain freeze right now very polite bus it even says please and thank you hey hello hi E - 81 world's best banana juice on me thank you Jim shortcut no your support hit the like button even better show your support and send us super chat cheaper than your cable bill shortcut it's awesome it's technically true it's chief of the cable bills are awful these days so what do you think let's see if we get the 500 likes before I get back to my bicycle I'll keep this tour going if we can get 500 likes it's up to you now I've been doing that my community community had held hostage for likes haven't been doing that alright here's a little bit of history I love this Ginza he's written up there so what does this have to do this area you'll see these markers every now and then they're just walking around I showed you in the beginning of this say that kind of looks like a base on a little bit that's sumo wrestling toe toe shoe sigh shocker a Yuki ukiyo-e artist from the 8o period he produce approximately 140 pieces of wood block prints for of kabuki and no actors and sumo wrestlers all of his work was done in just ten months from May of 1794 what this dude did all of his work in ten months and then just stopped who does that insane artist Scirocco used kita zooty grounded mika to create gorgeous backgrounds and depicted actors facial expressions and postures very realistically he is known to the world as one of the greatest ochio a masters from japan so i guess he he was he lived around this area shut up his life seemed very mysterious there was also a no actor named a judo bei Saito of our domain who lived in Hutto body a theory is being recognized now that shikaku and Jin obeys Saito were the same person ah he had an he had an alias how cool is that he's a man of mystery and now this makes him an international man of mystery because he's not only in Japan Gump look at that that's the dude and he was he was nobody knew much about him he create all his art in ten months and look at some of his work here check it out it's pretty cool he lived in this area I love that you swore on this is by Kugimiya XI and on the other side you can see where we started the livestream and those big tower mansions which is scoota which is another new island on the another Island on the other side scoot up being an original rock that was an island where the Osaka fishermen were during the Adel period they did the fishing for the Shogun and sent the fish to the imperial palace they were exiled to that Island I guess they're exiled they lived there and they built a man-made island around it and here you can see some restaurants on that Main Street that have little windows that face the kama Jima River which is this island I'm on now no longer is hot your booty but an island called Shin Kawa which should probably be another live stream in the future there's a Sky Tree on a beautiful day with blue sky check it out well 500 likes thanks guys alright I'll keep I'll keep it going now Jim this is so good it's like only half gone it feels you know when they when they make it this cold you can't really down it real fast that's good you can just like a like a slow melt Shinkai wise is kind of historical as well but I think hot your body in that area you'll see more contrast in the architecture there's a really good tyrus taranta Kenai likes to go to we ride our bicycles there do you see that red one it's called like Bangkok pony and they have really cheap lunch sets and pretty good dinner a lot of a lot of expats are there they get takeout they'll be waiting there while we're eating they come in they say how you doing they get their their bag of Thai food and then they run off do you eat it upstairs there's a lot of apartment buildings here we didn't go to the Opera Hotel which is just two of them I believe in hot cha bori they're all over the place look at this Indian restaurant here I didn't know about this one it's a good-looking one curry set for 980 or 950 a little bit pricey but I think if the food is is of high quality I would pay more for that anyone want to go for a joyride I see the keys in the car oh it is still winter hey the Italian bombshells here hi John can you say hi to my 16 year old daughter Mon Mandy she came down with the flu and watches me watches with me all the time I'm double-fisting here hey Mandy hope you feel I hope you feel better well die Jeannie we say in Japanese or Die Jeannie meaning get well soon and yeah thanks so much see you in Japan hope you can make it some time I got my banana juice in the other hand a nun jeans on 20/20 on jeans on pilots on the friend of the great Shogun great times in Shinkawa yeah nothing like Xin Chao WA Ramsay silent flowers are close to our clothes if someone needs them you got it Ramsay silent you got it buddy I will get it because I think since I'm leaving the flowers will stay behind so when I'm in Hokkaido those flowers will still be home that's a good that's a good thought thanks Ramsay silent appreciated always looking out always always making sure that I'm safe at home much love so little park on Shinkawa I'm wrapping around back to my bicycle but because we got the 500 likes I thought I would just keep on get the live stream going we actually walked this way about 60 minute about an hour ago passed down here and then through the side street so we've kind of already connected around I'm gonna cross the street not bite here cuz this is the police station that'd be bad right yeah that wouldn't be good but just like no cars coming it's still quiet here you can see Sheen Kawa in the center of your screen now Shinkawa is an island this didn't exist in the 8o period or maybe it did it didn't exist it was the first man-made island in the city of Tokyo and it's kind of neat I remember we met in a livestream up in the in 2012 17 I think Jennifer was with me we met a guy who came no Hana was playing yeah and 2018 at the beginning we did a livestream Hana was playing the guitar and some dude came and he said you should come visit me on my island I'm like on my island it sounds like that guy from Braveheart the Irish guy he goes it's my Island I own it you know he said that I was like what what are you talking about my Island he's talking about this this is a Shinkawa and it is in Island technically surrounded on all sides by water and that's where we started Minami takahashi and we walked I started here and there's a little shrine I started here we walked along here and then before we got to this bridge I walked down this alley showed you this park we walked this way across the street showed the youth hostel in this old building on the corner here then we walked into the back alleys of here which is hot Djibouti nicho Mae a lot of history and hot Djibouti need shoumei then we walked around here on the other side of hot Djibouti station comi Jima and then we just walked past the Mercedes shop back to here in an hour pretty good afternoon I would say pretty pretty good that looks old Takahashi it's the new sign so the bridge that used to be here was wiped out this is a marker for it they left it here as a reminder and now you can see the new bridge but it's pretty neat that they have these benches and and a picnic table where you can come and enjoy it on a nice beautiful spring afternoon which sort of feels like that right now but hey it's actually winter and just February first and this I could a tree right now here's it for anyone coming for the cherry blossoms here's a sakura tree right now no it's not blooming we're still way way way away from that but you can see the branches what they look like right now and no they're not gonna bloom until March despite the warmer weather than usual cherry blossoms will come out until March I think we can get to 600 lights before we end that's a major accomplishment teamwork teamwork if you keep looking around the comedy a river you can see how the building get taller and taller and that's getting closer towards Tokyo Station and Akihabara that way now but it's quite a ways away but it's in in that direction and Tokyo Station I think that's that's the Tokyo Station and then this way towards Ginza manhole ha it's been nice chew oku this is a Chu Awards manhole covers for I think electrical outlets that's pretty neat I didn't know about this pathway that's right don't hit the like button for me hit the like button for Mandy she's sick with the flu let's give her some power we had 600 likes is for Mandy community comes through once again I don't know what do you guys think do you think you could live out here there's a one of tokyo's trash trucks look how clean the trash trucks are in Tokyo man 23 is 23 wards but if you look at the buildings here there's a lot of apartment buildings and I did walk around here and I considered living in this area but what do you think could you live here does this look like an area that you would you would want to you know hang your hat in an apartment around here what do you think there's no Starbucks that's another thing there's no Starbucks in this area that's right they don't have any shops in Shinkawa and I don't think there's one in hot cha bori there's one at st. Luke's Hospital which is nearby there's not one in scoota over there and the high-rise buildings they don't have a Starbucks over there either Suki Shima Island doesn't have a Starbucks there's one at the there's a shopping mall that has one but not a lot and that's not a bad thing I do like the vibe of hot cha bori lot of local shops lack a lot of local cafes and that's I think that's what it's all about I like supporting the local businesses and I and Kani and I would do come here often we tried new restaurants and like to meet meet the people around Chu award which is our neighborhood this is hard to drink I'm trying to get to the bottom of it all right that's the shrine with the naked people that try to see how long they can sit in ice water that festival takes place in the in the middle of January every year and I'm now going to my bicycle we're about a minute away boom done that was good now this is an old shop I've run past here a few times it's a nice area for running this one looks like it's just like lost in time this this house and I seen the owner outside a couple of times I'm sure he may be he's seen me running around too but he's got Birds outside check it out he's got like birds and fish on the outside of his apartment you see there's a bird cage as well over there one of the most unique looking buildings in a Chu award and and it looks like it's starting to fall apart this looks like something that could have been around before the Tokyo firebombing and just survived and it's never been repaired it looks like doesn't it I'm really curious about the history of this building this is a great one to end on for those that have been joining us for the last hour you really get a sense of the history of this with this one building right by Minami Jima kind of the paint is peeling on it it looks like it's has some sort of architecture to it which means that it was here before World War two I'm guessing I don't know it's hard to say short cut rights in here start a fund for world fair 2025 go see let's go see Kevin Kevin Reilly that's his Olympics I've ever when they announced it when they announced the the World Fair in Osaka in 2025 Kevin wish was jumping up and down we were we went to a judo match and I said why are you so excited he goes you got the Olympics I got the World Fair yeah I didn't share his excitement I wasn't as excited as him but for the city of Osaka it's a big deal whereas Tokyo might be the big international city well Sokka is is I would say Japan's big merchant city historically it's where all the merchants were so having the World Expo nosaka makes a lot of sense but yeah I was like Kevin was so ecstatic and I'm like yeah I don't know it's like really far away but now it's not it's only five years away that was awesome thanks guys for buying me some banana juice here is a bench this is what they have a sign here anything the guys wearing a necktie isn't he he's wearing a necktie this isn't for homeless people homeless people don't wear neckties but it says it's a kimchi day so you're not allowed to sleep here no sleeping I don't know I guess but it's nice they show that homeless people have neckties here they really class in it up I think it's a good thing they deserve respect really and the situation with with the homeless here is is gonna change too because of the Olympics coming a lot of new buildings are coming in places where the homeless were now are shifting to new places and it's hard to change it's hard to to move them the soup kitchens are still going on and all that but it's you know they've already a lot of the homeless people have already had really tough lives and it's now in transition again because of the Olympics and we'll see how the city does but it might be something that I cover cover over the next year homeless homelessness is in Japan it's evolving now because of the Olympics and how how has that changed the situation so there you go ha cha bori pretty cool chill neighborhood I don't live too far away from here I love this area I live in a place where the rent is cheaper but I do like to ride my bicycle around here and I thanks so much for sharing that with me sharing the day with me tomorrow going to Hokkaido I'm gonna be doing a live stream a live stream from oh it's from geo Barajas did you feel the earthquake two weeks ago I was on the 13th floor about your booty unni's oh we went past it when these were building actually I don't I don't think I did but you know what thanks for bringing it up because this morning at 2 a.m. we had our everyone's cell phones in the city of Tokyo went off you know that really annoying like it was really really loud and it's an earthquake warning warning warning and then do you know what happened can I woke up she got really angry she kicked me and then oh hello yeah you find me at the end yeah can I kick me but it freaked me out here wait oh yeah sure I'm still live actually yay all right I ran all the way from Fukuoka where's that one okay that's far away I got a card for you yeah I have the you found me card really of course I have them because it's cool when people come and say hi especially if you traveled all this way yeah this is the iPhone iPhone 11 Pro with a gimbal nobody can see it you have to be on this side of the camera try my best oh yeah I'm Derek Bob why hey Derek I'm Australia alright here we go you found me you only get that if you find me how long have you been here in Japan I've been here since December 15 and I'm leaving on February 11th sorry Wow okay so you've seen a lot of stuff here yeah I mean during the New Year's I went to Osaka and then going up to Seoul mmm but it was sick form with my girlfriend was sick for most of the holidays I did some already see Vidya I've seen out of reach destinations like I'm knock at or Oh recently I weighed myself to see the week's race and it was a bit off to plum blossoms that came out oh yeah who may yeah and now on February I heard you're going to support all right okay done tomorrow tomorrow really I'm going on Friday okay for the ukhimath City this snow festival yes I hope that it's good I'm worried about that there's I've been a lot of snow cuz it's so warm in the city so yeah I actually wanted to see the on the three Oscars of Chichibu okay but one of them was meat so Succi not all the things I see a car remember but one of them actually just closed early yeah it's it's it's it's been a really strange winter actually so hopefully we find hopefully there is some snow it okay helling in Hokkaido for okay yeah that's there on the same time what do you think of the coronavirus here are you worried about that you've been here since before it started yeah well I was lucky that you know given where I'm staying with my girlfriend she works here by the way there was still a fair amount of it took a while for the regional pretty suburban areas to get the mass grave that I now I see shops you know or sold out like supermarkets yeah that's a problem bring your bring your masks if you come to Japan now because there aren't any at least until you they start getting the production back into the store it's kind of worrying right I think once the Chinese New Year's finished people start going back home to China to mainland China that no one knew is coming in the masks will start get back on the shelves I'm slightly worried about that we have a hundred masks left so don't worry you know you don't have to send us any masks but we had we get enough beer oh good yeah keep them because we just you know you're gonna need them I think the stores will have them again in a couple in a week or so but I'll probably take about twenty with me to us hope - okay doan till I can get get some more stash thanks so much for coming that's very cool no problem I think you ran 20 minutes from Tokyo Station whoa I'm trying to find because you know Tokyo's really be placed everywhere is new I had to use some landmarks like the river and in to find me oh yeah wow that's pretty I'm impressed actually I'm very impressed that you found me and I was just about to end - that was good timing there was a video at coronavirus ekabo Corral yeah and I was thinking to guard but then I felt like you're because you know traveling you know from the suburbia is very expensive yes yeah I'm glad that you made it that was really cool you're not part of the history of the show you're out there you're out there well thanks everybody I have to end this to get back to pack well I'm leaving tomorrow morning to go - to Sapporo from Haneda Kiki writes in here I meant to catch you while you were doing the last year I was in Tokyo but I was too busy have a wonderful time in Hokkaido this is
