The Ultimate Catfish Bait

[Music] and we're gonna go fish some flood waters if we catch some catfish let's go fishin alright guys I'll tell you something pretty cool so walking down here to the boats just got in drop the bodhi and I was out here fishing yesterday which was the day after they did the massive water release from Lake Norman largest water release in the lakes history the water down here was horrible as dirt filled red as it could be debris fall in it they didn't open water 24 hours a day obviously trying to get Norman down it's absolutely amazing I'm gonna say clear but how much better the water looks today is really crazy how much clearer relatively speaking it is it was yesterday just one of the casualties of the flooding it's like somebody's boathouse - this mud line is so well defined this looks like you're driving into a dirt field here's something really crazy up here this is gonna look like a bridge that's got some little islands around it but these are some massive grass mats from many miles upriver that have broken loose and made their way down here to the bridge and I've got wrapped up on that's pretty crazy I know there's a lot of people looking for an easy bait to use something that you can get conveniently without having to go catch bait having a good throw a cast net all that kind of stuff and I understand that I've been wanting to try this with the chicken that's how it works I know some other people use it jojje Ellison chat cats who has channel here on YouTube I know he uses it out in Tennessee on Chickamauga in that area and one of my mentors Mike byron also has a channel here on YouTube one of the old-timers he uses it now he marinates his in garlic powder puts a little twist on it a little a little bit of a Italian I guess it's for the Italian fish or something but uh yeah you can do all kinds of concoctions and stuff I don't know that any of it makes really a difference I think if the fish are gonna hit it they're gonna hit it but I like a lot of things if you feel good doing it in your catching fish it don't really matter just do it if you want to marinate it in something soak it in jello whatever if you haven't finally catch a fish that's what matters so I just had a monster bite on this and I don't know stayed hooked up or not it went slack yes it's there it's there it is there yes still hooked up to get fish that's a good bite goodbye it's just kind of going where he wants to go I do not think this fish knows there's a boat here yet up there yes he came straight through the top Natalie knows there's a boat trying to give him some wine very case yeah it's good right there good fish not a monster but we'll take it it's like a big female a mad female mad female they say semi damn swimmer down sue yeah my bogus twisted the female I'm starting to catch these things it's a good one good-looking fish hey about 12 pounds it's Armenian fish here and it's like good-looking fish flood waters on chicken breasts let's get it back alive tell you what I'm hooked up with here just a santi rig got a sinker from Dale's tackle snap swivel 30 pound Andy monster Andy clear mono 50 pounds homemade rattle and a hookers terminal tackled circle hook that's a chicken man I got one going boom there he goes there he goes there he goes there he goes there he goes look at him go look at it go one go away I gotta go oh yeah ooh Oh got him in sup current to its stroking it let's get bite that was a real good bike you got some water moving I seem to ride guy first I said I'll piece of debris got it what's cool is this is probably only an 8 or 10 pound fish it's just a lot of current right here where I'm at I came further up the river just to see what it looked like and there's a lot of current up here perfect perfect it's perfect current for these media Maxima big cat fever rods you get a workout get some rod being got some flexibility but the back end handle whatever you give it to good fish very good fish that's a teener a 13 pound fish 14 maybe yeah good looking bleep good-looking female get healthy get this right there guys to get these yeah nice fish flood water blue cat want some chicken fish let's get it back a life so what are some tips for fishing these flooded rivers and lakes well one thing be aware of your surroundings if you've got a lot of Swiftwater you need to probably consider staying at home or at least wear a life jacket have a float plan let people know where you're at usually honestly when it's really Swift you know really just turbulent water it's not gonna be that good of fishin anyway so you're better off staying home what I'm fishing is rising water we got current it's nothing crazy it's nothing out of control so it's a little different scenario here but when it's really really bad first piece of advice stay home you got really really swift current it's just not worth going out the second thing is going to be to find some breaks in the current some of these eddy currents not all of the water moves through the river or down the lake at the same speed and in the same pattern some places move faster than others and there's a lot of dynamics that come into play deeper river channels bends points all of that affects what happens with the water the best thing you can do is look at what is going on with the stuff on top of the water whether it be debris bubbles that kind of stuff that gives you a lot of clues to exactly what's going on and where stuff's going slower I was in a place yesterday anchored up water was barely moving I could look two or three hundred yards out toward where the deeper River channel was and water was stroking through there probably two three miles an hour so it can happen pay attention to what's going on with your currents find those breaks because that's where these fish are gonna be staged up at to get out of this current to get a break from I got a bad feelin when I got one camera angle on that last fish we'll get another one going and I know we got the other camera going now yeah I don't know how much footage on my half of that last one but it was about fourteen pounds slammed it I just realized chesty cam would and running that ain't good gotta have chesty camp it's a good fish to these media max and rods are perfect in this kind of car a little bit of work it's a lot of fun that right there is what it's a great equalizer back in them these things tips are good good inflexible very forgiving and here that I'm a little bit wrapped these currents moving through here it's a two three miles an hour faster than we normally get you're moving a lot of water through here that's what's coming a little bit sideways no one near as big a fish is the last one feels heavy there yeah get that bugger when our chicken today guys all chicken this spot is producing another nice fish all kinds of there's a good chance to loosen this fish right here guys there's no leader to grab on to it's all wrapped up on it that's one thing when you get these fish close to the boat you got to get a hold of that leader and there was no leader was kind of wrapped up on his fin we got him decent decent fish no monster not as big as that last one I don't think I got a good shot of the last one sadly I'm gonna have another rod going right there fish yep it's a small fish I noticed it a minute ago going off get this one I did a stick yeah the stick get out a stick it's a small one he was on when I was releasing that other fish it's just three fish very quickly right here it's a little channel cat hooked him in here yep little channel nothing here feeding he say hey say they are eating the chicken chicken cats let's get another one Oh pop it on this channel cat yep little fish feels like a channel here's the thing we're catching fish with this chicken it works paint monsters I don't know how good would be doing if we had gizzard shad that rattle is loud that is one of the robot throw that roll roll open your mouth and makes it real easy I am nice little channel cat give me another tip don't go fishing at night I know a lot of guys like to fish for catfish at night and it can be a good break from the weather boaters and all that kind of stuff but listen it's bad enough being on the water during flood stage with debris and everything else and doing it at night when you can't see just makes it that much worse so if you're gonna fish in flood waters do it during the daylight one more tip on finding fish and flooded water is you may want to think about looking toward the bank a lot of times these fish will pull out of the swift or tougher current the current with all the debris and everything in it and they'll move over toward the bank you got to remember a lot of the fish with the rising water there's a lot of smaller fish that end up moving further in you know up into some of this you know newly flooded water and this official going their feed on them so don't forget to fish the bank especially if you got a place it's got a curb ring we got the Gaston County police by rolling bars as we speak I assume they are if they're looking for the missing person we got four of them turning around looking cooped up a game fish cup I am smoking them boys smoking yep that is the police boat there's the fish by the way little blue Little Leaguer let's get back thing there is the police boat checking stuff out checking out debris looking for that body too the crazy thing is they're actually looking for a body alright should say a missing person just up the river from where I'm at there was a guy found this morning on an island up there apparently some teenagers had went swimming in the flood waters last night the one guy made it to an island was out there overnight all night and a passerby on the highway sewing but apparently there's another person that they can't find I'm not showing the age or anything like that but they've been searching all day for that person and it's just upstream from where I'm fishing at and I hope they find them but man these kind of conditions it don't look good boom I got one swimming off with the bait he's way going oh that's it there he goes it's a good fish I'm have to get to the other side he made a run made a run I like it he doesn't coming upstream now coming upstream fast fast it's good fishing I don't know how much of its the currents the location what I got a tree coming down through here that I think he's gonna stay away from me down the biggest not as big as the strike but a good fish not as big as the bite roll that circle hook out of there BAM another good fish just a nice that's a fish no kiddin there is one look at that look look look look look look he's screaming with it see it's it get that one get a picture get him in the water guys this by this crazy see what this is get hurt boom there he is yes again this river current makes it a little more fun keeping an eye on that tree coming down through there I want to make sure it stays away from me it came to the top looking like it's gonna clear me the only thing is you got to keep an eye on stuff out here because the way this stuff the way these currents go and you get a shoulder and then cause of stuff to go one way or another I keep an eye on it damn good fish look at pull pull what's this fun fish and chickens working I love this flooding muddy water time of year one but if we're kind of spawn time I think things are winding down on that I'm getting a lot of females mature females without the big guts they used to have they say they say they say ohm that later I say let's not pull it let's not pull it out missing another mature female not huge good-looking fish that drinking and raise over there you're looking fish yes back alive it's a
