[Music] hey folks I'm bitter melon in this video I want to show you the three catfish rigs that you need to know if you're gonna go out take some catfish you need some kind of a catfish rig basically what that is is the stuff at the end of your fishing line it includes the hook swivels leader sinkers all that stuff all the terminal tackle in the end of the line material is I'll put together in a rig one of the most basic rigs that will work for you for any kind of fish whether it be freshwater or saltwater big or small it's probably the simplest rig to tie and you can learn this one and skip over the rest of the video if you want to because this one here will catch you fish anywhere you go fishing and that is the Carolina rig alright folks I'm gonna show you what I got here for the Carolina rig I've got my main line this is piece of andy monofilament that oh god I'm gonna move it out of the way for a second that line is gonna put a sinker on it it's going to slide through here this is a regular egg egg sinker that I've got that is gonna tie onto this swivel on the other end of that swivel this leader material now this is a piece of para para cord that I've got here just for a fact you can see exactly what I'm doing a lot better with this that will counter swivel the other end will tie on to the hook so basically what I do is I start with just making a clinch knot on here very simple three four five times around here I'll go three around run it right back through there boom slip it down tight bam you got that done now you can use different knots if you want here an improved clinch knot you could use a Palomar knot whatever you want to do I'm just using a very simple fisherman's knot which is just wrapping around through here that's all you're doing I'll show you one more time come through the eye wrap around one two three four usually four or five times again I'm going less here because this cord is kind of heavy boom that's pulled down on there that's basically the rig at that point and then what you're gonna do is I'm gonna put this sinker on to your line just thread that through down the egg sinker bang that's on your mainline now you'll tie your mainline on to this here like that again another clinch knot through there like that pull it tight boom that is tied in place pow what happens is that hits the bottom you rig lace on the bottom with the bait and I think it's ready to catch fish guys that's that simple that's all there is to it main line with a sinker on it with tied to a swivel your leader tie to the other end the swivel comes around to a hood you're set to go now another great rig for fishing underneath the boat and directly adjacent to the boat is the Kentucky rig the Kentucky rig basically consists of a sinker at one end of the rig in the middle you have the hook and at the top you have a swivel that is attached to your mainline now a lot of guys use this rig straight underneath the boat when they're drifting or when they're anchored to maintain contact with the bottom you can also use this thing suspended in the middle of the water column it's a very it's a very flexible rig and how you can use it and it's really easy to tie you're gonna need a pretty long piece of leader material again I've got the orange leader material here so you exactly what it looks like I use for catfish Andy monofilament you can use for carbon if you want something in the 40 to 60 pound range is more than sufficient you need a hook you'll need a swivel and you'll need a sinker now first thing you got to do is you're gonna have a sinker at one end of this and a swivel at the other but what we're gonna do first is put us a loop here in the middle I'm gonna show you how to do this little loop knot here that will be very strong what you're gonna do is you're gonna make a loop you're gonna make a loop like that alright then you're gonna come up with this other piece like that and that's not going to cross over it's just gonna lay right up to it you're just going to pinch it next to it what you're gonna do is you're gonna wrap this around that main piece three or four times I'm just gonna do it a couple here so you can see what's going on so you're left with that okay you're gonna take this piece and run it back up through there so it comes out like that let go of that and I use my teeth to pull that down tighten thing now you've got your dropper loop right there to put your hook on what you're going to do is you're going to take this little piece right here on your loop helps me make the loop a little bit longer I made this one kind of short run it through there like that till it's all the way up then you're gonna put the hook back through that loop again if they make these a little bit longer it's a little bit easier to go through there but it goes through like that then are you gonna do let's pull it tight think you got your hook on there and on this end just tie on again a proof clinch knot I go around five or six times but again with this pair of cords a little bit hard to see with them on the filament so I use that them you got that what you can do on this end and just put you a little overhand knot in here like that so you got a loop on this seeing that you can put a snap swivel down here - I've done that before but this is nice and easy so you can swap these out if you need to pinch that down again run that through the eye just like that vein you got that through there pal you got your rig ready to go right there guys so there is to it tie this in swivel ties onto your mainline and you're good to go again you can make these things as long as you warm them or short as you want them you know this thing here is probably I don't know 18 inches long it's just a foot or so off the bottom you can make these things huge you can actually add another loop into this if you have enough line so that you've got a double hook rig it's a very effective way to put a couple of baits out there get a lot of sin in the water and catch some catfish now the next rig is my all-time favorite if you watch any of my videos you'll see me use this rig all the time whether it be drifting or anchored up and it's a very versatile rig it was designed for the guys that drifted the santi Cooper Lakes down in the eastern part of South Carolina thus the name the Santee rig now this rig is somewhat similar to a Carolina rig except that in the middle of the leader you have a float of some type it can be a peg float a piece of styrofoam it can be a rattling bass height bluer like a Zehra spook that has some rattles in it some people have done it with balloons there's a lot of variations the bottom line is this float suspend your bait up off the bottom while further up that leader is a sinker that attaches and keeps the rigged pin to the bottom so you know you have bottom contact but the bait is floated up off the bottom to make a better presentation for the fish and also to help avoid getting snagged alright so here is what you need to tie up a Santy rig a pretty good bit of stuff to it this here is your leader material now in this case I'm using the hobbyist paracord just so you can see it normally I'm using anywhere from fifty to sixty pound and D clear monofilament lines you're gonna need a float to float it up off the bottom you'll need a hook I prefer a circle hook a octopus style circle hook the bend I hear is very convenient for Snelling the hook which is very important in getting your hook ups you're gonna need a snap swivel you can go with a swivel there's an option for that but I'm going to show you the way I do it here and then you're gonna need some type of a drifting Wade this is a BoneTown drifting sinker you can use a Bank sinker there's a lot of different variations out there a lot of banks sinkers but these BoneTown sinkers are made by a guy here in South Carolina very good sinker so the first thing you have to do is put your hook on I Snell mine you're gonna just run that through the I'll show you the way I do it I use a uni knock method gonna come through here you'll get that through there parallel to shank of the hook what you do is you make a loop now with monofilament it's a lot easier to do this as far as the wraps I'm only gonna do about three normally I would do about four or five what you can do is you got that pinched on there like that you can see how that's laid across it and I should mess with this some you'll get very fast at it you're gonna come back through like that so you can see what you've got now you've got it through there wrapped around like I said normally you'd wrap it four or five six times I'm just gonna go through here a couple just for effect hold that pull tight on that boom that is snailed on there that's good to go so you're ready on that in and what you're gonna do you're gonna put a fork on here you can use a cork some people have used balloons you can use some of the Zehra spook pipe rattling floats that are out there we'll leave the peg out for a minute till we figure out where we want it then on the other end you're going to town the discriminate on the swivel snap swivel got a snap on one end that snaps onto your weight the other end that snap connects to that swivel and then on this other end is the opening the swivel that's what we're gonna tie off onto so it will eliminate any twists and our rig as it goes through the water you know we're just using a clinch knot wrap around at four or five six times then come back through that little eye there pull it down tight again I didn't go through as many as you should with monofilament you're gonna put your cork on there there's your basic rig right there then what you're gonna do on this end is you're just going to attach your sinker to the snap and what you're left with is this end of the snap here tie your mainline on to that opposite end where the leaders have and that rig is ready to go ready to fish what happens is the weight will be on the bottom this will float up your bait will be there suspended you can change the height and how close you want this court to it it's just depending on how you fish normally I'm running mine about that far away from it generally that prevents the fish from eating the cork and all if he eats the cork sometimes it can affect your hookup so I try to keep it a little distance away but trim your you know your tag ends off and you're good to go that's the Santee rig my favorite rig to fish with anywhere I fish in the country well folks have you made it this far thank you for watching here are a couple more videos that I think you're gonna like I've watched that one and then that one no dude that one first and then that one just watching both they're both good [Music]
